Chapter 22: Help

I was in the middle of my soap. When my phone started ringing, I picked it up as soon as I saw it was Kagome.

"Hey, sweetness. How's it going? Do you miss me already?" I teased.

"Sango are you busy right now?"

Oh God. I'd never heard her sound like this. I could tell she had been crying.

"I will be there soon. I promise."

I grabbed all my things and rushed out of my house. I ran straight to my car. Normally, it took me 45 minutes to an hour to get to her house. This time it took me only thirty. I didn't care how fast I was speeding. She needed me and I had to be there. I'd pay for whatever speeding tickets I needed to later. I parked right behind her car and ran up to her front door. I knocked on the door.

"Kagome, It's me. I need you to open the door."

The door slowly opened. I slipped in through the little space and closed it behind me. She was sitting on the floor. Her eyes were red and puffy. I closed the door and sat beside her and hugged her.

I rubbed circles on her back. "Oh honey, tell me what's wrong? Why are you crying like this? Talk to me please."

She covered her face with her hands and just cried harder. I pulled her closer and rubbed her back.

"It's okay honey, just cry. You can tell me when you're ready."

We sat there for almost an hour. She cried on and off. It made me so sad. I hated seeing her like this.

"Come on Kagome. Tell me what's wrong."

"Sesshomaru is what's wrong."

"What? I thought things were going well between you two. What could he possibly have done, to have you a mess like this?"

"There was always this woman who would show her face around the office. She's beautiful; the kind of woman you can tell comes from money. She's the complete opposite of me. I didn't know who she was. I didn't even know her name until recently. Sesshomaru didn't seem to be happy or angry whenever she came around. She'd held onto his arm once. In a way that made me think that they were together. It hurt to admit it, but they looked like they belonged together. Today I ran into her in his office, while he was out. She was just walking around as if she owned the place. Barging in when she wanted, touching things. It annoyed me that she would just pop up whenever she wanted. Today when I saw her... she said she was his fiancé."

"Kagome and you just up and believed her!?"

"Yes! After I was rude to him about it on the phone. I hung up on him… he told me that I didn't need to come back in for the rest of the day. So, what does that sound like to you Sango."

"Come again?"

"Exactly, so what does that sound like to you Sango? What am I supposed to think"

It sounded like he was a dead man, that's what.

"He didn't call back. There was no text explaining himself. I left her there in his office and I know he went back and found her there. I just feel so stupid. How could I let another one of them toy with my feelings like this? I thought... I thought It would be different this time. I feel like the other woman."

"Don't you dare say that about yourself. You are not the other woman. Do you understand me?"

She just looked up at me; her eyes getting watery. Eventually, she shook her head yes.

"There has to be some sort of explanation for this; a misunderstanding of some sort."

She sighed. "I don't know how else to look at it."

"You work at S Publishing, right?"

She nodded.

"Good. Wait here. I will be right back."

She tried to grab me, but I slipped away just in time.

"Sango wait no, where are you going?"

I slipped through the little space in the door

"Wait here Kagome," I called over my shoulder.

I was standing in the lobby of S Publishing, and I was pissed. I looked around until my eyes landed on a receptionist's desk. I went over to her.

"Good morning. I'm here to see Sesshomaru Taisho." I told her.

She typed away on her computer and then looked back up at me.

"It seems you do not have an appointment with Mr. Taisho. You can schedule an appointment, but his availability is limited. You would not be able to meet him for the next few months. What would you like him to know? Perhaps I could pass the message along."

"I know I do not have an appointment, but I need to speak to him. It is an emergency, and what we have to talk about is private."

"Mr. Taisho does not see anyone without an appointment." She repeated.

I was losing my patience.

I sighed. "Look here-"

"For whatever reason you may be here. I cannot help you. He will not see you. I have never seen you here before. Clearly, you are not someone of importance. Maam you need to leave."

Ma'am? Yeah, that's it.

I had been here for about five minutes and the little receptionist lady behind the desk was working my last nerve. I understood she was doing her job, but she didn't have to be so condescending about it. I squinted down at her name tag.

"Listen, Yura. If you tell me, I can't see Sesshomaru one more time. Or if you are condescending towards me one more time. I am going to climb over this desk and kick your scrawny ass. So, I suggest you watch your tone and bring him down here if you know what's good for you. Right, fuc-"

"Sango."

I turned around and saw Sesshomaru standing there. I looked back at the woman and smiled.

"See. That wasn't so hard, was it Yura?"

"Sango we can speak in my office." He'd said.

"Did y'hear that? He said we can speak in his office. It seems like I'm someone of importance after all." I said mocking her as I walked away.

I followed after him. We were in the elevator and we didn't say a word to one another, and I was happy about it. I was waiting until we reached his office before I ripped him a new one. Plus, I hadn't thought of all the ways I wanted to curse him out for making my best friend cry. The elevator doors dinged open. I stepped out and saw that it was just us.

Was the entire floor his office? Very pretentious, but very on-brand for Sesshomaru.

I followed him to an inner part where desks were. He took a seat and I sat across from him and folded my arms.

"My staff called to let me know that you were causing a ruckus, in my lobby."

"I sure was," I said proudly.

"I would like to know why."

"Seems like we both have a lot of questions."

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Sango, it is almost the end of the day, and it has been a rather long one. I do not have time to read between the lines. If you have something to say to me. Say it; plainly."

I scoffed. " Oh, I will. I vouched for you, you know. I told her that there was no way you could be like Inuyasha, and when that other guy was after her in college. I said no; you have Sesshomaru. Don't waste your time with anyone else. I handed her to you, and you went and hurt her feelings and made her fucking cry. You just had to screw it up."

"Cry? I have not- Sango there seems to be a misunderstanding."

"No, I understand perfectly. It doesn't matter how things went down. What matters, is that you hurt my best friend and now she is at home crying her eyes out, and I know that it is your fault. I only came down here to chew you out about it. Kagome is sweet and kind. She sees the good in people even when she shouldn't. She does not deserve this. I expected better than you Sesshomaru."

"Sango-"

"What is it with you Taisho's? Do you get a kick out of playing with women's feelings?"

"Stop it and listen to me! That is not what happened!"

"So then explain yourself! Explain why she thinks you have a Fiancé!"

He exhaled deeply.

"This again."

"Yes, this again." I mocked.

"There was a woman-"

I rolled my eyes. "Dear God, what a way to start an explanation."

"Let me finish. She would often come to the company. She is the daughter of one of my father's oldest friends. She clearly has feelings for me. We had a conversation years ago, I told her I did not return her feelings. I let her stick around out of pity, but she knew she and I would be nothing more. I confronted her after I had spoken to Kagome on the phone. She said she told her she was to be my Fiancé. She is a delusional woman, and nothing more. I am not interested in her. Nor have I ever been. I made it very clear that Kagome is the woman I've chosen. As well as that she is not to show her face, before me or Kagome again."

"Let me get this straight. You knew this woman had feelings for you. Yet you let her hang around anyway. You let this other woman be around the woman you say you care about; the woman you want to be with, and you thought that nothing bad would come from it? Do you not realize how careless that is? Instead of explaining all of this to Kagome. Not that this is a good explanation by any means. You tell her she can go home for the day. Could you imagine what would be running through your mind, if she did that to you? I thought you were supposed to be the smart brother Sesshomaru. I hate to say it, but Kagome can be insecure. You would be too if someone you loved spent ten-plus years leading you around. She'' jump to conclusions and believe things if you let her. She hasn't fully healed yet; you have to bear with her."

"I did not wish to argue with her. That is all. I did not mean for all of this to happen."

"Well, when you finally speak to her, you're about to have a very big one. You didn't give her an explanation or anything. She's thinking the worst possible things right now Sesshomaru. She even referred to herself as the other woman!"

"She is not the other woman. She is the only woman. I would never do such a thing. She means far too much to me."

"You say she means so much to you, but you let that woman hang around."

"I understand your point. Hearing you explain it this way is... it seems I have been a fool. I simply figured she needed space and time to think."

"Needed space? Have you ever met a woman? Look I can tell you don't care for women much. From my perspective, you don't know how to maneuver with them, but you've got to do better. For Kagome's sake."

He only stared at me. I could see him thinking, but now was not the time for sitting around and thinking. It was the time for action.

"Hello! Do you need a sense of urgency slapped into you? Call her! Tell her that you're sorry. Tell her how much you love her and need her, and talk it out with her. Or are you going to let her go?"

Because you better love her.

"Tell her that you're an idiot and that you should have known better because you really should have. Most of all explain everything you just told me, but for the love of God. Do not just sit here and do nothing. The worst thing to give a woman is time to think. Especially if that woman is Kagome, because if she chooses to never speak to you. I will not be helping you again, and I will do everything in my power to keep her away from you."

He pulled out his phone. He had this strange look on his face.

"Oh my God… you're afraid, aren't you? You're scared that you've messed this whole thing up. You think you've lost her. Honestly, if you don't hurry up and explain yourself. You definitely will. Remember, fear is temporary, but regret is forever."

I got up from his desk and walked over to the door.

"Sango." He called after me."

I looked over my shoulder. "Yeah?"

"I appreciate your help. However, never speak to me that way again."

"Yeah, yeah. You're welcome." I said leaving.

And I'll do it again.
