Greetings, everyone.

While working on other stories, I couldn't let this one go.

This is a one shot that is part of a different AU swirling in my mind, but haven't really settled on making it official.

So, please enjoy some Slice of Life.

I do not own Digimon.

Pan De Salllllllllllllllll!

At the sound of a distant call, Gabumon's eyes open rapidly.

It was still dark, with the sun barely peeking out of the sky.

Still…

Wriggling from the blanket, the Child Digimon slowly get out of bed.

Despite being careful, Gabumon still woke up their bedmate, Yamato.

"…..Gabumon?" Yamato said drowsily.

"Ah, Yamato. I'm sorry for waking you", Gabumon said quietly as they look back. "I just need to go get something."

Hearing Gabumon heading out of the room, Patamon also woke up and went after the other Digimon.

"You going?" Patamon said, who was at the hallway as Gabumon was at the door.

"Ah". Gabumon said. "I shouldn't take too long. Can you help set the table?"

"Roger", Patamon said, doing a half salute.

After Gabumon left the dorm, Patamon went to the kitchen.

"Where is Gabumon going?" Takeru said as the two brothers were watching them earlier.

"Oh, Takeru", Patamon said. "Gabumon was just going to get the Pan De Sal for us."

"Pan De Sal? What's that?" Yamato said.

"I guess it's a kind of bread", Patamon said, taking out cocoa powder from the drawer and milk from the fridge. "Since both of you are here, can you help me get the plates and cups for everyone?"

Even though they didn't know what's going on, the two brothers nevertheless decide to help as Patamon warm up the milk and make the hot cocoa.

[Outside the Communal Area]

Pan De Salllllllllllllllll

A man was yelling out from a stall after putting away money from the earlier customer.

"Ah! Hello, again", the man said as he see Gabumon walking to him.

"Good Morning, Park", Gabumon said, whose head barely reach the stall.

"I take it the usual?" Park said as he leans into the stall to meet the Digimon's eyes.

"Actually, I wanted to ask if you can give me 6 dozen instead", Gabumon said politely.

"Oh? Did something happen?", he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"My friends and I got new roommates and I want them to taste your bread", Gabumon said with a smile.

"Is that so?" Park said as he brought out 6 stacks of Pan De Sal. "Then, here you go."

"Thanks, Park", Gabumon said as they placed the payment on the stall counter. "So see you again next time?"

"Of course. I will be waiting", the man said with a warm smile as Gabumon take his bundle and make their way home.

"I'm back."

As Gabumon return to their dorm with the stash, the smell of the bread slowly wakes up the whole place.

"What is that?" Taichi said, who smell something good.

"The bread is here!" Agumon said, who quickly get out of bed, displacing Taichi, who nearly falls out of bed.

"Hey, watch it!" Taichi said as he get up.

"Bread?" Hikari said, rubbing her eyes.

"Yeah. It's that time of the month again", Tailmon said, who does a long stretch before putting their feet on the floor.

By now, all the children and Child Digimon are awake although still sleepy, sitting around the table.

After giving their thanks, the Child Digimon dig into their food while the children look with wonder.

"So this is Pan De Sal?" Koushirou said, seeing the piles of bread in the middle of the table, along with the warm beverages.

"Yep, right now, we have plain, cheese, and ube flavor", Tentomon explained, talking about the three stacks.

"You can eat it on their own or put something on it. My favorite way to eat it is to dunk it in hot cocoa", Patamon said, who plunges a bun half into the cup of cocoa before taking it out and stuffing it in their mouth.

"That looks good! Let's me try!" Takeru said.

"Ube?" Hikari said.

"Park said it's like a purple sweet potato", Gabumon said while ripping a bun in half, steam still coming from it.

"Those are my favorite!" Palmon said, chewing on a purple colored bun.

"It does look and smell good", Sora said, who was deciding which to have.

"What is this?! This is delicious!" Mimi said after taking a bite of a bun.

"So this is something you guys do this early morning?" Yamato said.

"Not always, I met a human named Park while coming back from a late night assignment one day", Gabumon said. "He travels with a stall pulled by a bike and sells Pan De Sal in different places."

"Hey, give me a cheese one", Tailmon said.

"Here, catch!" Gomamon said as they took one from the stack and threw it in the air, which Tailmon effortlessly caught with one paw.

"The catch is that he comes at the crack of dawn, so it's hard to wake up", Gabumon said. "You can hear him shouting outside the window that he's here."

"So that's what the sound was coming from", Koushirou said.

"He only comes to our area once every 2 weeks in a month, so doing this every now and then is fine with us", Piyomon said.

"That's it?!" Taichi said. "How is he doing business?"

"He said that selling this early morning is normal and it's more common where he's from", Gabumon said.

"It must cost a lot to buy a lot of them though", Jyou said, seeing the amount of bread brought.

"Actually, it's only 10 bits a bun", Tentomon said.

"That's dirt cheap!" Mimi said who was surprised.

"And that's good for Child Digimon with a tight budget", Gomamon said.

"Still, you brought a lot of bread", Taichi said.

"Usually, we leave the rest that we don't eat for later, but we run out somehow", Gabamon said.

"By somehow, we mean Agumon", Tailmon said, sipping milk from their cup.

"A second breakfast!" Agumon said with an excited tone.

"We can eat them later, but it's more delicious when it's eaten warm", Piyomon said.

"It really does", Sora said.

"Not to mention, word about his bread has spread fast, so it's pretty popular," Gomamon said. "If you don't get up early enough, they would run out".

After most of the bread have been eaten, the Child Digimon were cleaning up the table, cups, and plates.

"Now that's done, what are you all doing?" Gabumon said, who was stretching their arms.

"What are we doing?" Takeru repeated the question.

"Since it's so early in the morning, we usually do our own thing after eating. Most of us go back to sleep. I am going to do my usual run", Gabumon said.

"In that case, I will come with you", Yamato said.

"Since I am already awake, I might as well catch up on my studying", Jyou said.

"As expected of Jyou. For me, I am going for a swim. The water is a bit cold at this time, but I don't mind it", Gomamon said.

"Eating that soft and warm bread is actually making me more sleepy", Takeru said, who open his mouth to yawn.

"Me, too", Patamon said, who yawn after the younger boy.

"I think we should sleep a little more since we have classes later", Sora said.

"No complaining there", Taichi said and he and his sister return to their room with their partners.

"I am going back to bed", Mimi said. "Even though it may be bad to sleep after eating."

"Eh? Why's that?" Palmon said, who was confused.

It would be a few hours before they are fully awake. It was early, but for the children and Child Digimon, it was a good morning to start the day.

I have heard about Pan De Sal, but hadn't eat one before.
