Erin Lindsay's life wasn't how others would describe it; she was living on the streets with her younger brother: Teddy, who was two years younger than her, and he was relying on her for everything, Erin tried her best to keep him safe and healthy, even if it meant stealing from shops and restaurants to keep him alive, any food she managed to get was all for her brother, she didn't mind being hungry, it was normal for her, because she was living on drugs her whole life, with a mother like Bunny? You had no choice. Erin's father, who was in and out of jail, before Erin could even know who he was. Hank Voight, the grizzled sergeant was the person who took Erin in like she was his own, it was the best thing Erin had to a father, and she wouldn't trade it for anything.
Erin was now 26, living in New York after accepting a job in SVU, working under her foster mother. Olivia Benson. Olivia was the captain of SVU and was also the grandmother of Ocean. Erin's daughter. Ocean was only two years old and she was quite sassy for her age, she had freckles and green eyes and Erin's mousey hair, but there's only one person who could be Ocean's father. Jay Halstead.
Erin kept replaying the questions over and over in her head.
When was my last period?
Did I really sleep with Jay?
The questions drove her mad, but she managed to figure out who the father was. It was definitely:
Jay.
But, Erin wasn't going to let Ocean grow up without knowing who her father was, not like she did.
Erin grabbed her keys, and drove towards Ocean's daycare, where she was learning about numbers and words.
After a few hours of unmissable traffic, Erin arrived at the daycare and walked inside.
Erin walked over to the classroom, noticing all the little toddlers asleep in their cribs.
"Ms Lindsay?" ? asked.
Erin startled herself, and looked over at the person. It was Ocean's teacher.
"Hi Katherine!"
Katherine smiled, even though she was slightly confused. "Umm, is there something wrong? I thought you were picking Ocean up at 12, right?'
Erin sighed, remembering she never gave any information. "Yes! Sorry, something's come up and I need to take Ocean with me,"
"Oh? Is something going on? Ocean can always stay here if you need to be somewhere?"
Erin groaned inside. What was it with all the questions?
"No! I just want my daughter!"
Katherine was taken aback by Erin's sudden reaction. "Sorry, I… I just haven't slept and it's making me cranky."
It wasn't a lie, she had not been sleeping.
Katherine nodded and smiled gently. "No problem, let me just get Ocean."
Erin smiled, and nodded. "Great!"
Katherine walked towards the cribs and picked Ocean up gently, supporting her in her arms.
"There's my sleeping baby." Erin cooed.
Ocean's eyes fluttered and her small eyes landed on Erin's. "Mama?"
Erin smiled, taking Ocean into her arms, "Yeah, baby, I'm here…"
"I wuv you, mama,"
Erin kissed her head, and hoisted her onto her shoulder, "Love you too, my baby."
They both walked out and Erin buckled Ocean in the truck, and closed the door gently.
Erin got behind the wheel and started running the ignition, "Let's go see daddy,"
She started the car and drove towards the main road, leaving the daycare.
Ocean was getting fussy, and she was hungry. "Mama! I hungriee!"
Erin was on the motorway and she was getting annoyed. "Drink some of this, babe."
Ocean leaned forward, grabbing the water bottle. "Juicey!"
She sucked on the plastic straw and leaned back in her car seat. "Yummy!"
Erin smiled, glad Ocean was now occupied.
She got off the hard shoulder and stopped at a nearby gas station. "Mama will be back in a bit, keep drinking your juice."
Ocean nodded, and placed the juice in her lap. "Can you get me sum Paw Paw biscuits?"
"What character, sweetie?"
"Skye!"
Erin laughed softly, ruffling her hair. "You got it, baby girl,"
She shut the door and ran quickly into the small store.
Erin looked around the aisles and picked up a few bottles of Gatorade and some toddler tums knowing Ocean gets car sick on long drives, and picked up a packet of her biscuits.
She went to the kiosk and paid for her purchases and walked out of the store.
Erin got back to the car and got into the driver's seat. "Here's your biscuits and some more juice, babe."
Ocean giggled and grabbed the items with her small hands. "Tank you, mama!"
"No Problem, sweet girl."
Erin took a sip of her Gatorade and placed it in the cup holder and turned the engine back on.
She made sure Ocean was okay, before driving out of the gas station.
Ocean chewed on her biscuits and a few crumbs fell onto her legs. "Mama! Crumbies!"
Erin stopped slowly as there was traffic in front of her. "Can you brush them off, honey?"
Ocean nodded, brushing off the crumbs and they fell to the floor. "All gone!"
"Good Job, baby."
Ocean sat back, and drank her juice. "Are we in a car jelly?"
Erin laughed, and nodded. "Yeah, we're in a traffic jam, baby."
The cars slowly started to move again, prompting Erin to move as well. "We're out of the traffic jam, sweetie!"
Ocean clapped her small hands and looked outside the window. "Lots and lots of cars, mama!"
"Yeah, what colors can you see?"
Ocean squinted her eyes and looked closely. "I see: Red, Blue, Banana, and Green!"
"Well done! Your tummy feeling okay, baby?"
Ocean nodded, and kicked her legs out. "Yes, I don't have tum tum ache."
"That's good!"
Erin turned a corner and got back onto another main road.
As the drive continued. Ocean began to feel her tummy ache. "Mama!"
Erin looked in the rearview mirror and noticed Ocean's legs drawn to her stomach. "Does your tummy hurt?"
Ocean nodded, whimpering in pain. "Tummy hurts, feel sicky."
Erin knew Ocean was experiencing car sickness and she pulled over. "I'm here, baby."
She got out of the car and made her way to the back where Ocean was sitting. "Hi baby, can I feel your tummy?"
Ocean nodded and Erin felt churning and she felt sorry for her baby. "Ooh, that sounds like a poorly tummy, do you want some special medicine, which will make that little bug go away?"
Ocean nodded and sniffled. "Open your mouth, love." Erin whispered,
She opened her mouth and Erin slid one gummy into her mouth. "That should help, babe."
Ocean swallowed and swallowed it down with some of her juice. "Want mama to stay here for a while?" Erin wondered, sitting on the edge of the seat.
Ocean nodded and reached out for her. "Alright, let's unbuckle your belt." Erin cooed.
Erin unbuckled the belt and picked her up, where she clung to her shirt. "Mama's got you, baby."
Ocean snuggled into her mother's warmth and closed her eyes. "Smell nice, mama…"
"Thanks, Ocean."
After a few hours of some motherly love, Erin made it into Illinois. Chicago.
