Chapter 6:
The Green Lantern:
Planet: Earth
City: Coast City
Year: 2022
Day: Friday
Time: 9:00 p.m.
Dr. Maxwell Butler, English Doctor working in a Coast City hospital. He examined his latest patient, Jessica Cruz.
"I lost another one," he said, "just like Jordan, Gardner, Stewart, and Rayner." Dr. Butler was starting to lose faith in his own abilities. If only he knew what was going on.
...
Dr. Butler was at home with his wife, Klara.
"Is everything alright, Maxwell," asks Klara.
"I was just thinking about those patients I lost," says Dr. Butler, "how can I call myself a doctor if I can't save them?"
"I'm sure you did the best you could," says Klara, "now, go back to bed."
...
Dr. Butler then has a dream about a green light that was coming for him. It was coming closer and closer and closer...
...
Dr. Butler then woke up and found a strange ring on his finger and it wasn't his wedding ring.
...
"Are you sure you've never worn it before," asks Clara.
"Are you accusing me of cheating on you," asks Dr. Butler.
"You? The day that happens is the same day the Moon explodes," says Clara.
"So strange," says Dr. Butler, "a green ring and what is this symbol?"
...
Dr. Butler then takes the ring to a jeweler.
"I've never seen anything like it," they said, "I'm sorry, but I can't help you."
"Something strange is going on," says Dr. Butler.
...
Dr. Butler was then walking when he realized he was glowing. Then he was flying, and he flew away.
...
Dr. Butler found himself in a desert where there was a crashed ship. He then ran to it and in that ship was a strange looking man. He was injured.
"Sir, I am a doctor," says Dr. Butler, "I can help you..."
"No, but you can help the Earth, Maxwell Butler. I am Amon Sur, son of Abin Sur, he was the original Green Lantern of Sector 2814. My Father was killed by a monster, the Starbreaker, a cosmic vampire! He is attacking your planet. He has already feasted on the life energies of five humans...the ones you tried to save."
"I don't believe any of this," says Dr. Butler.
"You have been chosen as the newest Green Lantern of Sector 2814! You must stop the Starbreaker!"
"Me? But..." Amon Sur is now dead.
"Hey there." Dr. Butler then turns around. "I'm Kilowog."
...
"Alright, Poozer, you ready," asks Kilowog.
Kilowog was training Dr. Butler, and it wasn't going well.
"I always hated gym," says Dr. Butler.
"That attitude ain't gonna fight Starbreaker," says Kilowog.
"I don't fight," says Dr. Butler, "I am a pacifist, you overgrown..."
"What the heck is a pacifist?"
They probably don't have the word itself on his planet. "It means I refuse to fight."
"What? Starbreaker took out some of the best Lanterns I know, Amon Sur, Thaal Sinestro, Tomar-Re, and others!"
"I am a doctor, not a superhero."
"You're going to need your own doctor when I'm done with you..."
Then the rings started to glow. "He's coming, isn't he," asks Dr. Butler.
...
Starbreaker was coming towards them, and he was draining people's life energies along the way.
...
"If you won't fight," says Kilowog, "guess I'm going to have to take care of this myself!"
Kilowog then charges towards Starbreaker, who then knocks him down and started absorbing Kilowog's energy.
"How pathetic," says Starbreaker, "that you actually thought you had a chance."
"Starbreaker," says Dr. Butler, "I can't let you do any of this!"
"Is that a fact, Mister..."
"Doctor!"
"Mister Doctor?"
"Butler!"
"You're a butler?"
"My name is Butler! I am a doctor!"
"Oh, how lucky for this Lantern then." Starbreaker then continues.
Dr. Butler has no choice, but to go against his principals to save Kilowog. He then creates an energy fist and punches Starbreaker.
"You're going to need one yourself," says Dr. Butler.
Starbreaker then charges towards Dr. Butler. Dr. Butler needed an idea. Then he notices that Starbreaker even looked like a vampire and then runs towards the sky with Starbreaker following him.
...
Dr. Butler and Starbreaker were now in space.
"I... sense... energy," says Starbreaker.
"That would be the Sun," says Dr. Butler.
"The Sun!" Starbreaker then flies towards the Sun, but then the energy proved to be too much. "CAN'T TAKE IT! NO!"
All that energy caused Starbreaker to explode.
"I always tell my patients not to overeat," says Dr. Butler.
...
"This ain't gonna hurt, is it," asks Kilowog.
"I just need to take a look at your X-Rays," says Dr. Butler.
"Look, Doc, I'm fine... ow!" Kilowog accidently hurts his arm by moving it. Dr. Butler then takes a look. "Hey... good job."
"I just hope the victims that survived are now feeling better," says Dr. Butler.
...
And now Dr. Butler is the Green Lantern.
"In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight Let those who worship evil's might, Beware my power, Green Lantern's light."
