Chapter 3:

Tenebrus Gaunt:

My name is Tenebrus Gaunt and I'm in Ravenclaw. My best friend is Eloise Higgs. I was walking through the halls, then I saw her, but she looked down. I wonder what it is. I went over to talk to her.

"Hey Eloise."

"Oh, hey Tenebrus."

"Did you hear about Sirius Black," I asked.

"Yeah, what a shame," she said, "I have to go now."

It was weird. I wonder what was bothering her.

...

I snuck into her room to look at her diary. I know I shouldn't, but what would you do if your friend was depressed about something. I found it on her bed, but it turned out to be her Monster Book of Monster Facts. It then attacked me. I fought it off using a broom and then ran out. Who doesn't lock up a monster book of monster facts?

I then ran into Eloise. "Were you in my room," she asked.

"What's a diary," I said. That was stupid.

"If you really were my friend, you would know to mind your own business." She then walks into her room.

"Wait, the Monster..." As it turns out, she's already bonded with her MBMF. It's like a pet to her. Who knew?

...

I was still trying to figure out what was wrong. Then, I realized I walked into Professor Trelawney's classroom.

"Oops, I better..." Then I saw her glass ball glow. I looked at it and I saw Eloise's parents. You see, her dad's an accountant. Just a regular muggle. Her Mom's a witch. When I looked, I saw that they were arguing. It looked like they were doing it alot.

"Stop right there," says Professor Trelawney.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to..."

Professor Trelawney grabs her crystal ball.

"Those were Eloise's parents," I said.

"Yes, I know," the Professor says, "somehow, it took a look into Eloise's life. I have seen it all. It seems they have been arguing for so long, they are planning... to separate."

"That's why Eloise has been so down."

"I have suggested to her that she talks with Professor Dumbledore, but she refuses."

"I guess she's too uncomfortable," I said, "kind of funny how that played when I got in here by accident, huhh?"

"Perhaps," says the Professor, "or perhaps you were meant to see it."

"But why?"

"Well, someone has to help your friend."

She's right. I need to find a way to help her. Somehow, I have to convince Eloise to talk to Professor Dumbledore, but how?

...

I kept trying to talk to Eloise, but something kept getting in the way. One point, when I tried to catch up to her. a crowd of students got in the way. When I finally got through, she was gone.

...

We were outside. I tried to talk to her, but there's one problem. I had a PeanutButter sandwich in my pocket and Hagrid's dog then attacked me for the sandwich.

"Fang, don't be rude," says Hagrid, "you okay, Lad?"

"Did Newt Scamander ever have days like this?"

...

It was late at night. I was walking through the halls. I saw Eloise and tried again, but then I tripped over something. It was Ron Weasley's rat. Man, I hate those things. If I didn't know any better, I swear that rat looked like it was thinking about revenge. But it's just a dumb rat. I looked and saw I lost her again. This was ridiculous. I walked back down the halls. Then I sneezed.

"Bless you," says a mysterious voice that sounded like Harry Potter, but came out of nowhere. I decided just to ignore it.

...

I decided to write her a note. I wrote it down and gave it to my owl. The Owl flew through the common room, but I forgot one thing. My owl has the IQ of a rocking chair. It ended up flying into the bathroom and dropped the note in the toilet. Then the Owl falls and flushes my note down the drain. This is what I get for trying to help a friend? Then my Owl gets back up but falls in the toilet. I was tempted to flush it, but I didn't.

...

I wrote another note and this time, I decided to hand it to her the normal way. But I needed the right place to do it. If too many people see me doing it, they'll think I wrote her a love note. So, I just slipped it under her door.

"This should work," I thought. Then I heard something. Like a savage beast ripping something to shreds. "Oh man," I thought, "I forgot about the Monster Book." I opened the door and saw the MBMF did, in fact, rip the note and then burped. I closed the door.

...

I was running out of options, so I decided the next best idea. I went over to Professor Dumbledore's office myself.

"Mr. Gaunt," he said, "what can I do for you?"

"Professor, it's about Eloise."

"Is she alright?"

"Well, her parents are... thinking of separating."

"Oh... I see. I'll talk to her."

I was about to walk away.

"Mr. Gaunt," he said, "you have done a good thing. Don't ever forget that."

"I just wish I thought of it sooner," I said.

...

Eloise finally had a talk with Professor Dumbledore. She was mad at me for butting into her personal life, but she eventually got over it. She's feeling alot better now. She and her parents are still working on the living arrangements, especially since they only have her during non-school days, but I'm sure they'll work it out. As for the Monster Book of Monster Facts, I'm starting to like it because I saw it chasing Ron Weasley's stupid rat.
