Chapter 5:
Broderick Jones:
My name is Broderick Jones. I am in Slytherin. My best friend is Cliodna Smith, formerly Cuthbert Smith. We at Slytherin like to challenge each other to dares.
"Alright, Broderick," says Stubby Turpin, "I dare you to go out at night, real late."
Everyone gasps.
I could get in trouble for that...
...
But I ain't no whimp, so here I am. It's not so bad. Don't get me wrong, it is kind of scary, but I ain't afraid of anything. Then I heard something. I looked. It was just a dumb unicorn. It walked away. Those things are ridiculous. I then walked until I saw something. It was some kind of big spider. I managed to scare it off with a spell. The spider left. Then I heard something. I checked. It was a baby unicorn. I must've saved it. It then came to me and nuzzled at my leg.
"Hey, get off!" I pushed it off. I think my time out here is over.
...
The next morning, I woke up and saw the baby unicorn resting on my chest.
"AAGGHH!"
"What's up," asks Stubby.
"Nothing," I said, hiding the baby unicorn.
...
If the others find out about this, they'll laugh at me and if the staff find out, they'll know I snuck out because of a dare, and I'll be in serious trouble. So, now I'm hiding a baby unicorn while trying to get rid of it. One problem, it refuses to leave. You save its life one time and now it acts like you're its mother. So, I went to the library.
"Ahh, here's something. Once you save a baby unicorn's life, they grow fond of you and won't leave your side. Well, that's just great."
"Reading about unicorns," asks Cliodna, "but you don't even care for them."
"I... wanted to know what makes them so stupid."
"That sounds right. So, I'm going to mess with Malfoy's broom, you want in?"
"I think I'm going to be busy," I said.
...
I tried to get the baby unicorn to leave using snacks. I made a trail, and the baby unicorn followed it. I thought I was finally home free.
...
I was at my desk in potions class, but then I felt something at my leg. I looked and saw the baby unicorn somehow got in.
"Is there a problem, Mr. Jones," asks Professor Snape.
"No Sir. Everything's..." I then started laughing. The baby unicorn was licking my leg.
"You find me funny?"
"No sir, I just remembered a funny joke, would you like to hear it?"
I don't know why I said that what if he did?
"I don't care for jokes."
That was a relief.
...
I read that unicorns like shiny things, so I used a shiny coin. I threw it into the woods and the baby unicorn followed it.
...
I went into the Men's Room and guess who I found there.
"You shouldn't... hang on, are you a boy or a girl?"
...
I tried using my owl to send it far away, but the baby unicorn's too heavy for an owl. This is ridiculous.
...
Eventually, I decided to come clean and talk to Professor Dumbledore.
"You shouldn't have done it," says Professor Dumbledor.
"Sorry Sir, dares are a Slytherin tradition."
"Yes, I have been meaning to talk to Professor Snape about that."
"So, am I in trouble?"
"More than you think. Mother Unicorns are very protective of their young."
"What?"
Then Hagrid enters. "There's a crazy unicorn in the halls!"
Unicorns can be vicious? This day keeps getting better and better.
...
The mother unicorn was on a rampage. Harry Potter and his friends tried to calm it.
"Think You-Know-Who's behind this," asks Ron.
"Pranks aren't his thing," says Hermione.
"Wait," I said, "I have your baby!"
The mother glared at me.
I ran and the mother chased after me.
...
I was at a dead end and the mother was going to pierce me with her horn, but then the baby defended me. The mother and child were finally reunited. They were nuzzling each other. It was strangely sweet. The mother came to me.
"So, we're good then," I asked.
The mother then licked my face. The baby came to me.
"Go on, you little Ninja. Say, I think that's what I'll call you. Because you're good at popping up."
The two then left.
...
It's strange, but I think I'm gonna miss Ninja. Wonder if I'll ever see the little rascal again.
"Time for your punishment, Mr. Jones," says Professor Dumbledore, "you'll be feeding the unicorns with Hagrid."
That answers that.
