Klonoa was in disbelief, he doesn't think he's ever actually returned to a world he's already visited in the past. He can't remember the last time he was in Lunatea, but it was an adventure he could never forget. But it was never in this state of disarray before. Last time he came to this world, it was to save it from total destruction. But now it seems like he was too late.
"...What happened?"
"I wish I knew." Pango answered. "One day we were just relaxing, living our lives without a care in the world. The next day, these…'robots' came in droves and started attacking the villages without any show of mercy."
"Robots? That would explain the blasters for arms."
"How long have you been fighting these things?" Klonoa asked.
"It's been about a few weeks at this point." Pango responded. Klonoa could tell by the sound of his voice that Pango had been working himself to the bone trying to defend the village. "Honestly, I've lost count, I've been so busy trying to evacuate the villagers and drive away those machines that I've lost track of how long I've been at it."
He let out a heavy sigh
"It's been rough, and pretty darn scary if I'm being honest."
Klonoa was at a loss for words. The chaos surrounding him, as well as the descriptions Pango provided, made him feel a sense of helplessness. It was a feeling all too familiar to him and he hated it.
He quickly shook his head, trying to get rid of the bad thoughts creeping into his mind. He had to do something. It can't be too late, otherwise he wouldn't be here.
"Pango…I-"
"But now things are looking up!" Pango blurted out in a more optimistic tone, slightly taking Klonoa by surprise. He turned to the cabbit with determination in his eyes.
"Now that you're here, we can turn the tides in our favour. We have a fighting chance now!"
Klonoa was always willing to help others, he was known to put others' wants and needs over his own. However, as he's grown older, he's become a lot more cautious and more aware of his abilities and limits.
He turned to Pango.
"Pango, I will do whatever I can to help." Klonoa said, before averting his gaze. "But are you sure that we'll be able to take back Lunatea as a whole?"
Pango looked at the cautious looking boy.
"I know we can, kid." he responded, patting Klonoa on the back and nearly knocking him over. "Besides, I've heard that that 'Wind Ring' you got there can pull off some exciting stunts and tricks."
Klonoa looked down at his Wind Ring. Up until Pango mentioned it, he forgot he was even holding it. Despite everything that he's done over the years, he would often forget that he carried his Ring around everywhere . That ring was his crutch, it could allow him to fire a 'wind bullet' at an enemy to inflate and carry them around to be used as either a weapon or a method of movement.
"Like I said, I will help save Lunatea no matter what." he said with a smile. It was clear to him that Pango's optimism was starting to influence him. "But first we need to start with the village."
"That's the spirit, kid! I have a plan that should help us gain the upper hand." Pango said as the two headed back into the cave.
"Okay so here's what we should do." Pango explained whilst packing his bag and placing it over his shoulder. "All of these robots must be coming from somewhere. These things are coming in endless waves, so surely they're being manufactured somewhere closeby."
"So if we find the source, we can stop the constant flow of bots from swarming the village, right?" Klonoa replied.
"Right!" Pango continued, "However, there is also the issue of defending the village itself. If both of us go, the people there are defenceless. The Priestesses can only do so much as they are healers and supporters, not soldiers."
"Priestesses…"
That's when it hit Klonoa.
"LOLO!"
The last time he was in Lunatea, he was first found by a young Priestess-in-training named Lolo, as well as her companion, Popka. The two accompanied him on his journey across Lunatea, from the quaint La-Lakoosha, to the barren Hyuponia. Although he rarely saw them after the adventure was over, he always held the two close to his heart.
Especially Lolo.
"Wait!" Klonoa suddenly spoke out, he didn't realise how loud he was until he saw Pango's startled expression.
"S-sorry." he said, slightly flustered, causing Pango to chuckle a little bit. "I just realised that there's somebody in Lunatea that I need to know is safe. Do you happen to know a Priestess named Lolo by chance?"
Pango took a second to think, scratching his head.
"Hmmmm…can't say I do, kid. Sorry." he eventually answered. "The Priestesses have been sent all across La-Lakoosha as well as the other kingdoms to help support and protect the innocent. She could be anywhere."
"I see." Klonoa said, disappointed and starting to grow slightly worried about her and Popka's safety.
Although he was sure that they could defend themselves should the going get tough, these mysterious invaders were clearly no slouches either. If Pango, an actual soldier, was struggling to hold the lines, then Klonoa reckoned that they might need an extra pair of hands as well. But right now, he had to focus on La-Lakoosha.
"Everything okay?" Pango asked Klonoa in a concerned tone.
"I'm fine." Klonoa said in response. "However there is a slight problem with the plan, now that I think about it."
Pango looked confused, but willing to listen.
"My Ring requires a power source to work. The last time I was here, Lolo used her magic to power it and make it work. But without anyone able to lend their strength, this thing is useless. I'm sorry."
Pango took another second to think about what the best course of action would be, as did Klonoa.
As if by some kind of weird unseen psychic connection, the two seemed to get an idea at exactly the same time.
"Got it!" they both said in unison.
"Wait, you first." Pango said, politely.
"I may not have a weapon, but that doesn't mean I can't do anything." he explained as he motioned his hands to express his idea more. "If we can get everyone out of that village and to safety, then we won't need to worry about anyone else getting hurt. Then once everyone is evacuated, we can scour the area and try to find where the bots are coming from and put a stop to it!"
"Holy moly, Klonoa!" Pango said, giving out a slight exhale in amusement. "That's the exact same idea I had! Hahaha! Great minds think alike as they say"
Pango's booming laugh practically shook the cave around the two. Klonoa couldn't help but laugh a bit at the humorous coincidence alongside Pango.
"Then it's settled!" Pango exclaimed as he beckoned Klonoa to follow him out of the cavern. "Operation: Evacuation is underway!"
Klonoa, with a determined smirk, quickly followed Pango outside, holstering his Ring to the back of his belt.
"Rupurudu!"
