A/N: A nice little chapter including two of my favourite characters, Monroe and Rosalee. The ultimate couple. Don't forget to leave a review or drop me a follow.
"So, are you looking forward to your romantic trip away?" Lorelei asked Nick, as she finished loading her washing into the machine. It was laundry day and Lorelei was once again utilising her brother's machine. It was a rare Sunday where Nick wasn't working, and Juliette had stepped out to grab some ingredients for lunch.
"Yeah. It will be good to get away. No work, no wesen. Just me and Juliette." Nick replied. "I'm actually planning on proposing to Juliette while we are away." He admitted.
Lorelei was a little surprised to hear that, especially considering how awkward things had been with the couple. "Oh yeah?"
Nick nodded. "It's the perfect opportunity. No distractions, in a cosy cabin with a roaring fire. It'll be perfect."
Lorelei debated whether to ask him if he really thought it was a good idea, especially considering he still hadn't told Juliette about his second job. However, Nick looked so excited, she didn't have the heart to burst his bubble. "I look forward to hearing about it. The proposal, not what I assume would happen after it."
Nick rolled his eyes. "As if I would share that much with you."
Lorelei laughed. "I would hope not."
"I am a little worried about what happens if Hank gets a case involving a wesen." Nick said.
This time it was Lorelei's turn to roll her eyes. "You act like Hank never arrested a wesen before. He'll be fine." She assured him. Nick nodded, although he didn't seem as sure as she did. "You just focus on having a good time, away from the responsibilities of being a cop and a Grimm."
The day after Nick and Juliette headed away, Lorelei decided to visit Rosalee at the spice shop in the afternoon as she was still on Spring Break and had the day off work. When Lorelei walked into the shop, she was surprised to see Monroe walk out carrying some boxes.
"Ah, and here I thought I was getting a few Burkhardt free days." He joked upon seeing her.
Lorelei rolled her eyes. "Haha, very funny. What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I could ask you the same thing."
Lorelei shrugged. "I have a free day, so I thought I would stop by."
Rosalee came out behind Monroe, also carrying some boxes. "Hi Lorelei." She placed the boxes down and moved over to Lorelei, giving her a big hug. "How are you?"
"I'm good. And yourself?" Lorelei answered, returning the hug.
"Can't complain. I have a big strong blutbad to help me restock." Rosalee said, patting Monroe on the arm. Lorelei hid a smile as Monroe's face turned red and he ducked his head, clearly trying to hide it.
"He is very helpful." Lorelei said. "Anything I can do to help?"
Rosalee walked over to the counter and picked up a sheet of paper. "You can check items off the list, as we restock them and take note of what needs to be restocked."
"Sounds good."
The trio had been working for some time. "Look, I really appreciate you helping me out with all this stuff." Rosalee said, as she and Monroe returned to the front with some more boxes.
"Well, you never know when I might need a discount on 'Tincture of Prickle Poppy'." Monroe stated, looking at the label on the bottle before looking back at Rosalee in confusion.
Rosalee smiled. "Yeah, that's for um, romantic stamina." She told him.
"Oh well, no wonder why I didn't know what it was." He said. Rosalee laughed, while Lorelei rolled her eyes from her position at the counter. Those two had low key been flirting all afternoon.
"I found something." Rosalee said, as she pulled what appeared to be an envelope from among the shelves. Curious, Lorelei moved over to where they were standing.
"Oooh, maybe its money." Monroe said
"It's not money. It's passports." Rosalee said, pulling them from the envelope. "From Brazil, Canada…"
"And Germany." Monroe finished. "I wonder who they belong to." They opened the passports, trying to determine who they belong to. Each one had a picture of the same man. "Is that your brother? In all of them?"
"Yeah, but with different names." Rosalee replied, sounding confused.
"What was he a spy or something?"
"I have no idea."
At that moment, Monroe's phone rang. He pulled it out and sighed heavily when he saw the caller ID. He answered it, shooting a look at Lorelei. It had to be Nick.
"Hey Nick. I thought a vacation for you, kinda meant, you know a vacation for me too."
Yep. Definitely Nick. What the hell could he need Monroe's help for?
"My groin is fine, thank you." Rosalee and Lorelei exchanged a look, as Monroe turned to look at them, shaking his head before returning to his call.
"Woah, woah, woah. Is this a joke? That sounds like a Seltenvogel, if they weren't extinct."
Rosalee perked up slightly, at the name of the wesen. "A seltenvogel?" she asked Monroe. Lorelei looked at them in confusion. She hadn't heard of that type of wesen before. But if they were thought to be extinct, it made sense.
"It sounds like it." He replied before returning his attention to Nick. "Yeah, I'm with Rosalee and Lorelei, helping out at the shop. But let's get back to the seltenvogel. In the ancient times they were highly valued and usually kept prisoner, you know like a concubine or a parakeet…..Once in their life a seltenvogel produces this kind of large…glandular thing…"
"I think it's called an unbezahlbar." Rosalee said, coming down the ladder. She walked off, and Monroe watched after her.
"Easy for you to say." He said to her. Monroe walked after her, holding out the phone as she repeated the word.
"My brother has a book." Rosalee said, as she walked around the counter and began looking through under it.
"Hang on, we're looking." Monroe told Nick. Lorelei joined them, leaning over the counter from the front.
"Here it is." Rosalee said, pulling out an old looking book. She began flipping through the pages. "Oh here."
"Ok, uh it is a dense mineral deposit which grows in the throat sack…" Monroe began.
Rosalee continued, leaning closer to Monroe reading the entry "…and develops something like an egg."
Lorelei watched as the pair realised how close they were. They smiled at each other and Lorelei looked away, feeling as if she were witnessing something she shouldn't.
"Anyway." Monroe continued "Um, yeah if the stone gets too big its need to be delivered and the trick is getting it out intact because if it's damaged it's, you know, worthless…Well, its unbelievably rare for one thing, but its also supposed to be mostly gold if you believe in that kind of thing." He listened to Nick and his eyes widened. "Oh man, this is the woman who's with the klaustreich…Listen, if he's anything like the guy I went to high school with, as soon as he gets what he wants she is going to be in big trouble man. And when I saw big trouble, I mean she is going to get plucked ok, big time."
Not long after he hung up the phone, he looked at Rosalee and Lorelei with wide eyes. "I hope Nick is able to help that girl." Lorelei said, while the other two nodded in agreement.
The three continued working together, no doubt thinking about Nick and the wesen he had met. Lorelei had considered driving out there, so Nick would have some backup, but Monroe talked her out it. They took a break to have dinner and continued working. Lorelei was in one of the back rooms with Rosalee, when her phone rang. Rosalee answered it and Lorelei's attention was peaked when she heard her brothers voice emerge from the phone.
"Rosalee, hey, Nick Burkhard here. I need your help." Lorelei joined Rosalee and saw that her brother was using Facetime.
"What's wrong?" Rosalee asked.
"Well, I'm with…" he trailed off, turning the camera to face a woman who appeared to be struggling to breath "…Robin, the seltenvogel."
"Nick, you need to get that stone out of her before it cuts off her airway." Rosalee said with a serious tone.
"Yeah, I know. But how?"
Monroe entered the room. "Is that Nick? He called you? You called her?" he said, coming to stand behind Rosalee.
"Can you guys do this later? This girl needs help"
Monroe grabbed the book and flipped to the right page, and along with Rosalee they helped Nick through the process of removing the stone. Eventually Nick got it out and showed them.
"Oh wow." Rosalee said. "How is she?"
"She seems to be breathing a lot better." Nick noted. "I think she's going to be ok."
They congratulated Nick on a job well done and ended the call.
"Wow." Monroe said and Rosalee laughed.
"We just saw something special, didn't we?" Lorelei asked.
"Yeah, we did." Rosalee told her, giving her a small hug.
Lorelei met up with Nick, a few days after he returned from his trip. He updated her on how things ended. Including, his proposal to Juliette once they returned home. "I just can't believe she said no." he said from his position on Lorelei's sofa.
Lorelei couldn't say she was surprised, but her brother didn't need to be kicked while he was down. "Did she say why?"
"She said its because I am hiding things from her." Was his answer.
Lorelei shrugged. "Well, she isn't exactly wrong. You are hiding things from her." She said tentatively.
"For her own good." Nick retorted.
"I know that. But she doesn't." Nick sighed. "Look. Its your prerogative to keep this information from her and its her prerogative to not want to marry someone keeping things from her. It sucks, but it is how it is."
Nick sighed again, running his hand over his face. "If I want to keep Juliette, I need to tell her the truth. But telling her the truth, could mean I lose her."
Lorelei didn't really know what to say, so she simply gave her brother a big hug, holding him close. Hoping he would be able to draw some comfort from it.
