A/N: Another 'date' with Sean and Lorelei, the green-eyed monster rears its head, and a cameo from Adalind.
Sean Renard was frustrated. He was starting to feel the pressure to get the key off Burkhardt and the Coins of Zakynthos as well. He did not appreciate being told what to do in his own city. Sean had a plan; he just needed some more time. Griffin had been doused with the potion Adalind made and they had confirmed it worked. If Griffin threatening the young man, he'd seen with Adalind was any indication. Once Burkhardt found out the danger his partner was in, he would hand the key over immediately. Sean slipped into Adalind's apartment to discuss the next steps of the plan. There were times he despised dealing with the beautiful hexenbiest. It was no secret that she was in love with him; he saw her love for him as a weakness. Although it had its perks, she would do anything for him. He pitied her, really, however he had no qualms about using her feelings to manipulate her.
He heard the shower running in the bathroom. When Adalind sensed someone in the apartment, she went looking around. Sean used the opportunity to slip into the bathroom. When she returned to the bathroom, he stepped out from behind the door.
Adalind gasped. "You scared me."
Sean smirked. "That's a compliment coming from you."
"What are you doing here?" she asked, walking passed him, back into the bathroom.
"It appears Detective Griffin has been taking favour with your cookies." He noted.
"He's left a dozen voicemail messages as of this morning." Adalind told him, coming to stand in front of the mirror. "If you call that a response."
Sean leaned against the counter beside her. "And he threatened your visitor last night too."
"I wish he'd done more than threatened him." She said, before looking at Sean. "Do you realise Peter suggested that we sleep together again to ensure our authenticity? He's lucky I let him leave in one piece."
Sean leaned in even closer, his voice lowering. "The next time Griffin calls, I want you to answer." He said, brushing his nose against her hair. Sean felt her lips brush against his shoulder. "The next time Griffin calls, I want you to answer. It's time to move this up a notch."
Adalind pulled away, brushing her hair behind her ear. "I hope you realise how dangerous this is. For me." She moved her face closer to his, staring at his lips.
"You can handle it." He told her.
Adalind smirked. "Let's hope so."
Sean moved his face closer again, his lips close to her ear. "Just be who you aren't."
Adalind turned to kiss him, but Sean pulled away. Before meeting his soulmate, he may have indulged Adalind. However, he no longer felt the urge. He stood up and started walking away.
"I've heard you've been getting close with the Grimm's baby sister. I'm surprised you haven't the seduced the key off her yet." Adalind said, causing Sean to freeze in his tracks. He was surprised to hear that someone had noticed his interactions with the youngest Burkhardt. They hadn't spent much time together, but clearly it had caught someone's attention.
"I have other plans for the youngest Burkhardt. You stay away from her Adalind. "He said, trying to keep his face and tone neutral.
"Isn't she a little young for you Sean?" Adalind asked teasingly.
"Green is not your colour." Sean told her. "And I assure you, my business with Lorelei Burkhardt is purely business. She could be a great asset."
And with that, he left before he risked giving anymore away. Hopefully that would keep Adalind away from Lorelei. He had no doubt the hexenbiest would hurt Lorelei if she saw her as a love rival. He felt sick referring to Lorelei as an asset. Although it was true certain groups would find her intelligence useful, Sean wanted all of her. She was his. And he would make sure that no one else laid a hand on her.
Sean was still upset that he had to miss a planned meet up with Lorelei and after his interaction with Adalind, he was determined to see her again. One Saturday he found himself again, walking the halls of Lorelei's dorm to her front door to pick her up. They had made plans to visit the Japanese Gardens and Sean had made sure everyone at work knew not to call him on his day off. Sean had been debating with himself whether or not he should tell Lorelei they were soulmates. He had initially decided to wait; her age, his role in her aunt's death, and his current plans to get the key from Nick had played a role in his decision to wait. However, he was getting impatient. What if some young man swept her off her feet when he wasn't looking? Sean knew that even if that did happen, it probably wouldn't last. He was her soulmate. They were meant to be together. However, he didn't want to put Lorelei in the position where she would have to break up with some hypothetical guy. Not to mention, Sean felt jealousy bubble up whenever he thought of another man touching Lorelei.
Sean reached Lorelei's door and knocked, waiting impatiently to see his soulmate. It had been a couple of weeks since he had last seen her. The door suddenly opened, and Sean was surprised to see it was not Lorelei answering the door, but another woman, around Lorelei's age.
"Hi, you must be Sean." The woman said, smiling up at him.
"Ah yes. And you are?" he asked, seeing Lorelei standing behind the woman.
"Oh, I'm Katie. And I was just leaving." She said before turning to Lorelei. "Have fun. I'll talk to you later."
This Katie gave Lorelei a quick kiss on the cheek. Sean moved to the side as she slipped out the door and headed down the hallway. He glanced at Lorelei and saw she was touching her cheek, a blush growing on her cheeks.
"Lorelei?"
Lorelei shook her head slightly, obviously coming out of some sort of a daze. "Hey Sean. Sorry, I'm ready to go." She quickly grabbed her jacket and bag, closing the door behind her as she exited her room.
"New friend?" Sean asked, realising he hadn't considered the possibility that anyone other than a man could be competition.
Lorelei smiled, as they made their way out of the building. "Ah, kind of." She said, sound evasive. Sean raised an eyebrow, which she saw. "Um…we're kinda more than friends. It's all very new." She laughed awkwardly.
Sean nodded, keeping his expression neutral. "I didn't realise you swung that way." He stated plainly.
Lorelei shrugged. "I swing every way. What's in someone's pants doesn't affect whether I am attracted to them."
Sean nodded again, trying to avoid allowing his jealousy to show. He wasn't sure how he truly felt, but jealousy was definitely one feeling. They reached the car and Sean opened the door, allowing Lorelei to slide in before moving to get in on his own side.
"So, how did you meet Katie?" he asked, curious about the girl who had sparked an interest in his soulmate.
"She works at the café on campus. We've kinda been flirting for months, and a couple of weeks ago she wrote her number of my order. I called her and we've been talking ever since. She came over last night to watch movies and we fell asleep."
This Katie had slept in the same bed as his soulmate. Sean pursed his lips together, as jealousy flooded through him. "And is this Katie as student as well?" He asked tightly, hoping Lorelei wouldn't notice his change in attitude.
"Yeah. She is a sophomore who is studying architecture. She likes building things." Lorelei chuckled to herself, no doubt at some inside joke he wasn't aware of.
Sean nodded, using the excuse he had to focus on the road to avoid answering. "Oh, I read that book you suggested." She said.
"Hmmm. What did you think?"
"I liked it. It was a little heavy, but I could see the point the author was trying to make."
The conversation shifted from Katie, which Sean was grateful for. He wasn't sure he would be able to hide his jealousy if they stuck with that particular topic. They arrived at the Gardens quickly. Sean opened the door for Lorelei and held out his arm for her to take. She looked surprised but accepted it. After purchasing their tickets, they began their trek through the gardens.
"It's so beautiful here. I can see why it's your favourite place in Portland." Lorelei sighed, looking around. "I love Japanese gardens, but the closest one to Baltimore was almost an hour away. It's nice to be so close."
"It is beautiful." Sean agreed, although he was looking at Lorelei instead of the surrounding scenery. "I don't make it out as often as I would like." He noted. "But when I do, it's worth the wait."
Lorelei smiled up at him before pausing to look at a sign. "I think I should brush up on my Japanese." She commented.
"I didn't know you also spoke Japanese." Sean said.
"Eh, a little bit. I got distracted with German." Lorelei told him. "But now that I am getting the hang of Latin, I might go back to Japanese."
Sean chuckled. "You're already getting the hang of Latin?"
Lorelei nodded. "Yeah, I tend to pick up languages pretty quick." She admitted.
They continued through the gardens. Sean was happy that Lorelei kept returning to take his arm whenever she moved away. He was happy she felt comfortable enough with him to do so. He enjoyed being so close to her. Sean still felt that jolt of electricity whenever the touched and he continued to wonder whether Lorelei felt it as well. She must, although like Sean she seemed to be good at covering her reaction to it.
Eventually they made their way to the onsite café, just in time for their reservation. Once they were seated and had ordered, Sean asked if Lorelei had started apartment hunting yet.
"I've been keeping an eye out, but it is expensive especially if I want to live alone." Lorelei told him.
"You aren't interested in roommates." Sean enquired.
Lorelei shook her head. "Not really. I've never really had to share my space with anyone besides Nick and Aunt Marie. Nick left for college and as I got older, Aunt Marie was always out of the house. Plus, I've already gotten used to living alone and it's only been a few months."
Sean nodded. He could understand that. Apart from living with his mother, Sean has always lived alone. He relished his solitude. Sean had never once considered sharing his space with anyone, at least, until Lorelei came along. A part of him wanted to offer the spare room he had to Lorelei, but it was definitely to soon for that. Maybe he could help her though. He had been considering buying another property.
"Nick has offered his and Juliette's spare room, but I feel like I would be going backwards if I took up his offer." Lorelei said. "Plus, I don't really want to live with my brother and his girlfriend. Who knows what I might hear."
She shuddered and Sean laughed. "Yes, I suppose there are some things you do not want to hear family members do." He commented and Lorelei laughed as well.
"Definitely not."
"Besides, I still have another month or so before I really need to start considering it. If push comes to shove, I can stay in the dorms."
Their drinks arrived by that point, and their conversation shifted to drinks. "I used to be a really big coffee drinker, but since moving to Portland I find myself drinking more tea. Which is a little weird considering Portland's reputation for its relationship to coffees and cafes." Lorelei commented.
"I can appreciate some teas, but I do prefer coffee." Sean stated.
Lorelei took a sip of her tea. "Although I have found myself a bit spoiled. There is a tea and spice shop that I've started going to. The shop owner makes her own blends, and they are amazing."
Sean raised an eyebrow. "Really?"
Lorelei nodded. "Yeah, it's a little place on NW Fulton Street."
If Sean recalled there had recently been a murder case in that area. A shop owner had been killed. Was Lorelei referring to that shop? And wasn't that particular shop one that catered to wesen? Was Nick dragging his sister into cases? He was aware that the blutbad was getting involved, but he would be very disappointed if Burkhardt was putting his sister in harms way. She should be focused on school, not going toe to toe with wesen criminals. If Nick had been aware of Sean's involvement in the wesen world, he would have given him a talking to. As such, he couldn't say anything if he wished to keep his secret.
Lorelei later confirmed it was the same shop, apparently the sister had taken over the business. It also seemed Lorelei had begun spending a lot of time there. Another wesen his soulmate was interacting with on a regular basis. Nick and Lorelei Burkhardt certainly were shaking things up.
After the café, Sean and Lorelei spent some more time touring the gardens, conversing as they did so. Sean was a little surprised that there was never a moment of silence between the two. Despite their age difference, they always had something to talk about. It further reinforced to Sean how much they were meant to be together.
Eventually their time together came to an end. Sean drove Lorelei home and walked her to her door, stretching out their time together as much as he could. As they were saying their goodbyes, Sean took a chance and leaned down, placing a gentle kiss on her cheek. He pulled back to see Lorelei's cheeks turn red and a shy smile crossed her face.
"Have a good night, Lorelei." Sean said softly.
"Goodnight Sean." She answered.
Sean spun around and strode down the hallway, moving quickly before he did something he may regret. As he reached the end of the hallway, he glanced over his shoulder and saw Lorelei was still standing in front of her door. Her hand resting on the cheek he had kissed. A smile crossed his face, and he continued his journey to his car.
As he reached his car, he pulled out his phone. "I need you to check someone out for me."
