Chapter 6- Rachel

The air was thick with tension as Rachel navigated through the woods, her heart pounding in her chest. Every shadow felt like a lurking threat, every whisper of the wind an omen. Percy was out there somewhere, and she had to find him. The memory of his last visit haunted her—the way he had looked, the desperation in his voice.

"Percy!" she called again, her voice echoing through the trees. Silence answered back, heavy and oppressive.

Just when she felt the weight of hopelessness settling in, a flicker of movement caught her eye. In a clearing up ahead, a familiar figure seemed to materialize from the very shadows. Her breath caught in her throat.

"Percy!" she shouted, rushing toward him. But as she drew closer, dread clawed at her insides. He was different this time—made of smoke, his body flickering and unstable. Cuts lined his arms and torso, blood seeping from the wounds, creating a haunting contrast against the darkness of his form.

"Rachel!" he cried, his voice strained and echoing as if he were fighting against an unseen force.

"Percy!" she gasped, desperation flooding her. She rushed forward, wrapping her arms around him, feeling the warmth of his presence even as he shimmered like a mirage. "You're hurt! What happened? Where have you been?"

"I needed to see you," he murmured, his breath shaky. "I don't have much time."

Panic surged through her as she pulled back to look at him. "You need help! We have to get you back to camp, you can't—"

But before she could finish, he leaned in, pulling her close again. "I love you, Rachel," he whispered, the intensity of his words sending a shiver down her spine.

His eyes, usually bright and full of life, now flickered with anguish. "I wish I could stay, but…" His voice trembled as the smoke around him began to swirl violently. "You have to promise me—don't send Annabeth."

"Why?" she cried, her heart sinking. "What's happening? Why wouldn't you want her to come?"

"I can't explain… Just promise me!" His form began to disintegrate, the darkness enveloping him more and more. "I'm sorry, Rachel, I'm so sorry…"

"Percy, please don't go!" she shouted, reaching out to him, her fingers grasping at the air as he began to dissolve before her eyes.

Rachel fell to her knees, tears streaming down her cheeks. *He was here, and now he was gone.* The weight of despair crashed down on her, each sob wracking her body.

His last words rang in her mind, twisting and turning like a knife. *"Don't send Annabeth."* What did it mean? Why would he want to keep Annabeth away?

Panic surged within her. She couldn't just sit back and let this happen. If Percy was in danger, she had to do something. Wiping her tears, she stood up, determination igniting her spirit. She would find Annabeth and figure this out together.

They needed to unravel the mystery of Percy's words, to understand why he was in such pain. *She wouldn't let him face this alone.*

With a newfound sense of urgency, Rachel took a deep breath and headed back toward camp, ready to confront whatever it was that had taken Percy away from them. Together, they would find a way to bring him back, no matter the cost.
