Chapter 3 - In case.
"In case, you don't find what you're looking for
In case, you're missing what you had before
In case, you change your mind, I'll be waiting here"
She thought of him every day for a year. Maybe more. Everything around her remained of him. The autumn leaves falling, the smell of the books in the library, the classes she attended, the books she read, the hot wind coming through the window. She lost count how many times she wanted to run back to her old life. To him. But she couldn't.
Then she meet Blake and Emma and a small part of the hollow inside of chest was filled with fun, laughter and companionship. But, as it happens when you became closer with someone, they knew. They saw right through her skin. The hurt, the abandonment. And helped her with what she wanted the most, to get over him. And she did.
Her fears and headaches just stopped. She never more lost the control of the force inside her. Although, she could feel it scratching inside her, like an animal wanting out of its cage, she wasn't scared of it anymore and that fearlessness made her stronger.
She had never felt something strange until tonight. And then, every pain came back crashing down on her. She wanted to scream. She succeeded. She started over. She lived as a normal woman. She loved being at Harvard and her friends and her life. She did it. She even dated a couple of guys down the road. And now she faced her fears all over again.
Her feet carried her to him. But staring inside his eyes, she couldn't read what he was feeling. So, she lowered her eyes. She didn't know what to say.
- Sam? What's happening? What is this?
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Of course Pete would choose the most inconvenient moment to show up. She turned back at him.
- I... - she couldn't say anything, the words wasn't coming.
- What the hell is that? - Pete screamed, hiding behind her when he saw the demon on the ground.
- It's dead. - she explained matter-of-factually. - I'm finished here. Wait for me in the car, I'll be right there.
He nodded and walked away barely noticing the red and blue guys there. Or anything around him.
- Damn, S! Your boyfriend is a joke. - Blake said. - Is this...?
- I'll see you at home, Blake.
- Okay.
Then Blake and Emma went inside the diner. Sam stared at the agents.
- Forg...
- No! - Abraham said and she was paralyzed.
- Right. Don't tell Manning. You never saw me.
She started walking away, but suddenly a hand stopped her, grabbing her arm. When she turned around, he was so close she tremble.
- I need to talk to you. - he said. His voice was hard and cold. Not a hint of kindness.
- Not here. - many people from campus were gathering around curious for what was happening.
Abraham didn't seem to care he and HB were out in plain sight at a university campus. Then, without breaking eye contact with her, he reached inside his jacket and took out a colorful card he extended to her.
Sam took it without realizing it and before she could say anything they were gone and she was alone in the barely illuminated street.
