She woke up slowly in her bed. And in Kiryu's arms. She vaguely remembered that she helped with dinner, but they were too entwined with each other to see the rest of the footage or even have dessert. Her back was pulled against his chest, and his chin was lightly pressed against the top of her head. They were both on their sides facing the left, and she blinked awake a bit more to spot something on the bedside table. Then she paused.
"Hmm…?" she frowned and reached over to pull up a small wrapper that was unopened. Then she paused with recollection. "Well…shit…"
"Huh?" Kiryu yawned and looked at what she was holding. "Oh. The item Nanba gave us. I, eh…didn't use that. Did I?"
"Definitely didn't…" she sighed and tossed it back on the small side table. "Oh, well. I honestly have no clue if anything will come of it or not."
"If it does…I will not complain," he chuckled and tilted her face to his to kiss passionately. "We can have dessert for breakfast."
"Really?" she chuckled and turned her body to snuggle into him. "Did you want to check your phone?"
"No…" he muttered and sighed with complete contentment. "What time is it, anyways? No sunlight here, so we need to figure that out."
"The lights are automatic to come on when the sun rises. It helps with daylight needs. The lights are still dim, so we woke up very early. This is usually when I prefer to train, too. It's a habit. I also tended to mark the days off on a calendar," she smiled. Then she gasped sharply when he pulled her closer to him. He was about to continue it, but she suddenly bolted out of the bed when a ringtone sounding like the soft chime of bells was heard in another room. Kiryu only heard a phone ringing and didn't make out the tone that was used.
"I turned off my phone!" he said and sat up with dismay.
"My phone!" she said.
"Your phone?! Who would call you at this time?" he frowned.
"Hello?!" she said on answering it.
"Mercy Giver! I'm so sorry that I didn't answer your call right away! I was on the mission field helping others," a wise tone said on the other side of the call.
"Thank you for answering," she said.
"Thank you?! I…this must be serious…" the voice said.
"It is. I'm…calling in my favor. Do you have any cures or remedies for a cancer that infiltrates all parts of the body?" she asked seriously. Now Kiryu paused at who she was talking to. He was right at her side to listen in.
"A cure?! Hmm. No. But…there may be something that can slow the spread. Intensely slow it down. How far along are we talking?" the voice asked.
"Possibly…three months to live…" she said softly.
"You?" the voice asked.
"No. My…boyfriend. He is the Dragon of Dojima," she explained gently.
"Truly?! Hmm. What is his condition like?" he asked carefully.
"Dizziness, vomiting blood, weakness and all forms of hell. And it hits if I overexert myself," Kiryu said now. "I'm here with her. It's…very serious."
"Oh! You are with her! Okay. I'll need to see what I can do. How is the mental powder?" the voice asked while the sound of rustling papers was heard.
"I have ten years left. So two doses," she said.
"I'll bring more of that, too. I cannot just send it to you in a parcel. I must bring everything to you carefully to ensure nothing goes wrong. I can see this as another mission trip. Everyone in my temple is grateful that you spared me. They always spoke fondly of you. They will assist me in this," the voice chuckled.
"What is your name?" Kiryu asked.
"Ah. It was never provided, was it? Even in the beginning. You can call me Gelek," he chuckled.
"You may call me Saiki," she said.
"Kiryu-san is fine for me," Kiryu said.
"What herbs have you given so far to help him?" Gelek asked.
"Mainly some turmeric, white willow bark, feverfew, ginger and rosemary for the pain in his body and joints. I also added peppermint for the headaches and flavor. Feverfew also helps with headaches, but I've been focusing mainly on his pain. Honey was added last to help with the flavor and smooth things down when drunk," she said calmly. "He admitted that it was the best thing he ever had."
"Hmm. In a hot tea base, right?" he asked.
"Yes," she agreed.
"All of the herbs you are using also help with his nausea. Practically on point for all of it. Good. I'll see if I can get ahold of some better quality herbs of that kind. I'm sure you just had the basic garden variety. I know where I can get the best forms of them. Leave that to me," Gelek said while writing out a list.
"You told me the herbs were rare and hard to get," Kiryu mused at Saiki.
"I had to tell you something to make you drink that shit," she grinned and laughed at his nuzzle into her neck. "But it still worked, right?"
"Yes, it definitely worked," he sighed.
"You also gave him caffeine?" Gelek asked.
"A little. Not too much, of course," she chuckled. "I did use a few coffee beans ground up for that."
"Very good. I may be able to get to Japan within the week with what I can acquire. Ah…will the yakuza be a problem?" he asked with a touch of hesitation.
"The yakuza disbanded. We are no more of a threat," Kiryu said.
"Really?! I mean…I heard about it…but I know some out there can have problems still. I just need to ensure that I'll be safe on arrival is all," Gelek sighed.
"You let me know when you leave in the air and for how long the flight will be. I shall meet with you personally to ensure your protection. We have a few good allies now that all want Kiryu-san cured of this shit. They will do everything they can to ensure you arrive in one piece," Saiki vowed.
"As she said," Kiryu confirmed.
"I'll make arrangements now. Keep your phone near you," Gelek said and hung up the call. Saiki breathed an intense sigh of relief and found herself in Kiryu's embrace. She was trembling with a form of hope now.
"He called! I was so worried…!" she winced. "He's the only one that has the number to this phone specifically for what I need. I put a specialized ringtone on his number, too, to ensure it was his call."
"I see why you leapt out of bed to answer it! I honestly didn't make out what that ringtone was, either. Anyways, we'll see what he brings. I'll keep myself out of harm's way," Kiryu promised her. Then he saw the time displayed on the phone. "Hmm. It's only four in the morning. We can get two more hours of sleep in. What do you think?"
"I highly doubt that I can sleep," she murmured. Then she gasped when he lifted her up in his arms to carry her to the bedroom. They were still naked all this time, and he clearly showed that he was fine with it. Even as he carried her back to the bed, his dragon tattoo that filled his back up looked mysteriously otherworldly in the dimmed lighting of the underground base. He plucked the phone from her hands to put it right next to the bed to keep it close. Then he kissed her hungrily to show he clearly needed her again.
"I can remedy that," he grinned.
"We should tell the others about Gelek," she said. "And they should gather here for it. Not outside."
"True. Okay. Around noon we'll get them here. Until then, though…" he muttered while placing her back in the bed. "And your bed is far better than the other one. I'll move my clothes in here to officially move in with you."
"What?" she asked and squeaked out laughter when he lightly tackled her. After twenty minutes of savoring each other, she noticed he started to go quiet. She nuzzled into his neck and felt him squeeze her.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I never thought…I would be capable of such an emotion…or be able to return it…because I know…I love you, too…" she whispered back.
"You called in a priceless favor to see if it can save my life. As much as we had a bumpy start…we do much…so much…for each other…"
"And you rescue me from myself…"
"If we make a child…I want to marry you…"
"Do you?"
"Yes."
"I don't know how to respond to that."
"In time, I know. And I did have another idea."
"What's that?"
"If we do marry…can we adopt some children?"
"Huh! I think…yes. Yes, we should definitely do that."
"Maybe run our own orphanage?"
"Whoa!" she said to get him laughing. "Let's stabilize your health first. Then we'll see what else follows."
"If we do run an orphanage…none of those kids would ever come to harm," he mused. She tilted her head at him and poked his sides to make him laugh. Then he looked at her. "Tell me this. You never went to school. Did you?"
"No…" she frowned.
"I thought so. And you never got any form of general education other than what you taught yourself?"
"Yes. You're right about that."
"You have a driver's license?"
"No…"
"Do you know how to drive?"
"To a point. Just enough, really. It's not like I was able to really sit behind the wheel of a car at any given time with how I was kept, you know?"
"Hmm."
"What?"
"I'm going to have my hands full with you while we wait for Gelek. So, I'm going to build up some courses for you. Important ones that you need to help you blend in more with society. I'm sure the others would gladly help out, too, as long as I'm monitoring things. What have you currently done?"
"I just applied to get some form of identification. You were there with me."
"I know. If there's issues…I may need to pull some strings…"
"The Daidoji?"
"Hopefully not…"
"You don't want them to know about me," she said softly.
"I don't. But…they can get more done when it comes to governmental needs. It's…scary. And you're right. We'll take things slow. But…"
"What?" she asked. He took up her left hand with his and shifted around so the rings showed in the soft lighting.
"Aika Hikaru. Will you marry me?" he asked.
"Kazuma…why are you asking me this now?" she frowned.
"I don't…see myself with anyone else…or want to…" he admitted.
"You are going far too fast for me."
"I know I am. But…I feel this is right."
"I don't know."
"Then tell me this," he said and gazed into her eyes. "You admitted to me that you would hide yourself away if anything happened to me that proved fatal."
"I did…"
"Because you don't want to be with anyone else, either."
"I don't…"
"Then marry me," he said and stroked her cheek. She swallowed and found herself nodding. He kissed her desperately now and joined with her shortly after that. They slept for a solid three hours when the passion between them was spent, and he groaned when he found himself waking up from the lights fully coming on. He glanced at Saiki to find her sleeping deeply next to him, and he made no plans to wake her.
He rested his eyes and found a small smile on his lips. She's marrying me. She agreed. I know everyone will say we should wait a year. But…I don't think I have a year. I don't know if I even have a month. I can't wait on this. For all I know…maybe we can get married tomorrow. With my health in the shitter, I may as well live my life to the fullest, right? It's what everyone would tell me to do…
"Kazuma?" she murmured and lightly stretched against him.
"Yes, Aika?" he kissed her cheek.
"Why did you ask me to marry you?"
"Because of my health."
"I see…"
"I don't know how long I have. And I'm always told to live life to the fullest. To do what's on my bucket list. And being with you? Falling in love all over again? It's a perfect thing to do," he chuckled.
"How are you feeling, though?" she asked and turned to check his forehead.
"I feel well enough. I suppose I'll check my phone…" he sighed hard. He got up to fetch it and return to the bed. He also brought the small box with the tiramisu cake and two forks. That got her giggling and they shared the treat. He narrowed his eyes at how Kasuga had called him three times already. "Damn…"
"Hmm? Oh. What's his deal?" she frowned and fed him a piece of cake.
"Not sure. We'll find out," he muttered and called back. "Hey. I'm awake. Why did you try to blast my phone?"
"You're up! Good! We need you both to come down to the Survive Bar!" Kasuga said. "It's important!"
"Why?" Kiryu asked and let Saiki nestle against him after the cake was devoured. He rested his chin on the top of her head and held up the phone.
"It's a surprise, okay?" he said. "A good one!"
"Hmm. I guess…" Kiryu muttered. "Give us an hour."
"That's perfect!" Kasuga chuckled and hung up.
"A surprise?" Saiki frowned.
"No idea…" he groaned and lay back in the bed for her to recline against him. "I wonder. We should watch the rest of that…movie. Then go."
"You think so?" she frowned.
"We won't get to see the rest of it if we don't," he said calmly. "We'll shower and dress after."
"Okay," she nodded. "Should we dress in something now?"
"Nope," he grinned and sat up to pull her close. "It's just us here. We're fine. We'll dress after we shower."
"You are too funny," she chuckled and snatched up her phone before he could pull her close to carry her. "I just have to press play for it to continue."
"Good," he nodded and took her back into the karaoke chamber. The screens were brought back up to show where the pause happened, and she sighed hard at the sight of her tormentor. He nodded and let her recline on him in the chair. He absolutely loved how her long locks of blond hair covered her chest, and he kissed her thoroughly before letting her hit the play button on the remote.
Yamashita's friend sat there with dumbfounded silence at what he was hearing. He shook his head and got up from the chair angrily. Now Yamashita said, "What? What's wrong?"
"You're way of thinking is all wrong! You murdered a girl's family! Stole her away to be used as a tool! And you think of her as your pet dog?! She's a human being, damn it! A child that deserved all the best! Like any of us! Did any of the patriarchs know how you actually acquired her?" his friend growled angrily. At the silence, his friend continued, "I didn't think so."
"You're not gonna snitch, are you?" Yamashita growled.
"I should. You destroyed a young girl's life. To grow up to be a murderer and a tool. A common thing. That's just plain wrong. And now I wondered how your clothes got to be so much better. Did you steal her paycheck, too?" his friend had to ask.
"She wouldn't know how to spend it!"
"Neither do you! Look at you! You have a top ranking yakuza's paycheck for nothing! I hope she finds out about all of this and kicks you to the curb where you belong! Hopefully with your head rolling the other way! I'm done being your friend."
"She can't even read much less figure out how to use money!" Yamashita smirked. "She can't do anything."
"Because you are keeping her weak and simple for your own benefit. Don't reach out to me anymore," his former friend muttered and started to leave. Then he gaped at the dagger stabs that happened in his back.
"Don't worry. I won't miss you. And you won't snitch," Yamashita chuckled when the other man fell dead. He was quick to drag the body away…
"That motherfucker!" Saiki hissed when the clip ended.
"We should have watched the rest with the others," he growled.
"I can't believe it…" she winced and pressed into him. "Actually, I can believe it. Dog Catcher was exactly that type of person."
"He was. I should have kicked his ass when I first met him," Kiryu grunted. "He's dead now, though. Let's take a shower and dress to go out."
"Okay," she nodded. He kissed her in a slow, passionate and loving way to put her fully at ease.
"I love you, Aika. You are everything and more to me. As much as you protect me, I need to protect you, too. Okay?" he said gently.
"I know," she nodded and let him carry her back into the master bedroom. She picked out her clothes consisting of a dark, shimmery green halter top with black jeans. He glanced at the black thong with a chuckle and got into the shower with her. They spent a leisurely amount of time in it before finally getting out to dress. They were giggling softly at each other, and he got his phone out to call Kasuga when they were ready to head to the elevator.
"Hold up. I want you to drink that mixture first," she said.
"Ah. Yeah. To make sure it's in my system," he nodded. She nodded back and moved into her work room to heat up the special herbal tea brew. She brought him another mug to drink down. He placed the mug in the kitchen after it was used and he nodded that he was good to proceed. Then he reached for his phone again to call Kasuga.
"Hey. We're heading out now," he said.
"Great! I'll send Tomi to get you both," Kasuga said. "He wanted today off for this, so it's gonna be awesome!"
"I'm a bit scared," Saiki chuckled when Kiryu pocketed his phone.
"Should I wear the glasses?" he asked.
"You should. Just to have them on in case something happens," she agreed. He put on the false glasses and got a loving kiss from her. Then she put her phone in a belt loop to secure it, put on her black lace cardigan and they both walked out of the elevator. "I am a bit nervous on what they want us for."
"Not the only one," Kiryu nodded. He lifted her in his arms to carry her easily. They got to the street curb and waited calmly for Tomi's minivan to come into sight. When they got into the back seat, Kiryu said, "We have some…important news to give everyone later. And we should do it back here underground. It's a bit secretive, and we don't want the wrong people to overhear it. I'm going to inform everyone when we get to Survive Bar."
"Oh! Okay. That's fine," Tomi nodded and started driving. When they got there, Nanba, Adachi, Goro, Taiga, Daigo, Zhao, Joongi, Seonhee, Chi-chan and Sa-chan were in the room waiting for them. Kasuga was sitting by the door to ensure no one else got in.
"So…what's the big event?" Kiryu asked.
"We are gonna go to a major party!" Chi-chan giggled.
"Really?" Saiki frowned. "I don't do well in crowded places…"
"Just stick with me," Kiryu nodded and sat down. She moved right into his lap and shook her head. "Are you thinking of what we watched?"
"I am…" she winced.
"Watched what?" Adachi asked.
"The rest of the educational video. Dog Catcher murdered his friend in cold blood when he was called out on what he did. That it was wrong. The patriarchs had no idea how Saiki was really brought to them," Kiryu frowned. "They were likely told that she was found at an orphanage with no family. The murder of her family had to have been kept from them."
"Are you shitting me?" Seonhee said with disbelief.
"It's all on video," Saiki said and sighed sadly. An odd silence filled the air before Goro cleared his throat.
"Well, he's dead and we're alive! Not much else to say to that! Anyways, if we want to get going, then we should head out now," Goro chuckled.
"Where are we going?" Kiryu frowned.
"Do you remember a little cruise boat that had no rules? That you took down all the strong fighters there?" Daigo chuckled.
"No. I'm not taking Saiki there. She'll lose her mind. There's too much death and violence there. Pick another place," Kiryu said sternly.
"I've never been there," Kasuga frowned.
"Then you can go. We are not," Kiryu warned.
"I don't want to lose myself. Where I would see friends as enemies. It would not be right," Saiki murmured softly. "I trust what Kiryu-san says."
"First name basis with you only. No matter where we are, okay?" Kiryu said and got her to chuckle.
"Okay, Kazuma," she smiled and pressed into him.
"I actually wanted to ask you all something. So maybe we can do this to pass the time," Kiryu said and regarded them. "I asked Saiki to marry me. She said yes. I want to marry her…fast. Next day or two."
"What?!" Sa-chan gasped with delight.
"Why so fast?" Nanba asked.
"My health. That's why," Kiryu nodded. "And…we love each other."
"You cocky little shit!" Goro grinned. Then he paused when Saiki snapped her eyes over to him to glare.
"Calm," Kiryu whispered.
"He doesn't know how much time he has left. As much…as even I told him we were moving too fast…he can't afford to wait. So…I agreed," Saiki nodded. "And I'm hoping someone gets here soon to help with his cancer."
"Really?!" Chi-chan asked with surprise.
"Who's coming to help?" Joongi asked.
"We will reveal that back in the underground base. It's not that we don't find this place untrusting," Kiryu started before the bartender moved from behind the counter. He was quickly securing the building down and locking it up to show no one could overhear anything.
"Please talk," the bartender nodded. "We're all here. We're safe."
"I find him oddly believable," Saiki chuckled. "Anyways…one of my missions ten years ago was to find a monk in Tibet. I had to kill him for going back on a yakuza contract. My mind…was in a haze. From how I was trained and how little I knew of the world. As I went to kill him, he noticed how I looked…crazy. Not of my own mind.
"He held out a very intricate tea. And the smell of it cleared my head! I drank it…and I felt…normal. For the very first time. I was told it was a poison that I had to take every five years or my mind would collapse again. And it did when I tested it. It was how I gained my tattoo. Also, if I took any more of it at any other time, it could easily kill me. It was why I had to go back to the Tojo building as the time limit for the next dose was fast approaching. I thought I had an extra day. I didn't. Kazuma…helped make it for me when I blacked out. I had carefully prepared instructions just in case I forgot how to create it.
"But the monk…we exchanged phone numbers and he told me I had a favor I could ask him if the time ever happened for sparing his life. He also told me to call him if I was running low on my mental poison. But I called him some time ago to cash in my favor. He called me back early this morning. He does have something that can drastically slow the cancer in Kazuma. It won't remove it, but it can buy us more time. But he has to personally bring it to me. He also plans to bring more of what I need to keep my mind clear," Saiki explained.
"When does he arrive?" Zhao asked.
"He didn't say when he is leaving. But he is preparing. I have my phone with me to answer when he calls. The moment I know, you all will know," Saiki nodded to them. "We need to keep him safe at all times."
"I'll have my men ready the moment we know his flight schedule and plane number. Just give me the word," Seonhee nodded.
"Now…you said you wanted to get married. How quickly?" Sa-chan grinned. "I mean…we'll need to set up a few things…"
"Seonhee, we should totally use the main lodge of the Geomijul! It would be perfect!" Zhao grinned. Then he mused. "I wonder if I can bake a wedding cake in record time…"
"I can totally see it! Tianyou Zhao! Master chef in the making!" Kasuga grinned. "It makes me wonder if you'd need some help, though…"
"Why, Ichiban Kasuga, are you offering to be my sous chef?" Zhao asked with a wry grin. Kasuga looked at him with surprise.
"I don't think he knows how to cook," Chi-chan chuckled. "I'm sure it would be better than Tomi, though…"
"Ha. Ha. Shut up," Tomi grunted at her.
"We'd need an elaborate feast, though," Daigo added.
"Don't make me taste anything until it's ready to eat," Taiga smirked. He did keep an eye on Goro's sulking form, though. "What's wrong, Goro? You jealous over someone you insulted?"
"Oh, fuck off!" Goro snorted to get Taiga grinning.
"He'll get over it," Daigo nodded. "Anyways, I'm game! Can I be your best man? I promise I'll be on my best behavior."
"Wait a minute!" Goro pouted.
"Maybe Goro can be one of the bridesmaids," Taiga snickered and laughed at the middle finger he got.
"He can be the usher for all I care," Saiki muttered.
"Oh! We need to do a bachelor's party!" Adachi grinned.
"No," Kiryu said quickly. "Saiki will murder everyone around me. Don't do it. Don't even think about it. And she'd likely murder everyone around her."
"He's not wrong," Saiki said with complete mistrust in her tone. "You must all remember. A lot of your traditions don't work for me. I never had the chance to integrate in society. I was kept stupid and numb to all of it. It's still…so hard for me to cope. Don't make this any harder than it needs to be. Please."
"Huh. I was going to have Joongi strip for the girls," Seonhee snickered.
"What?!" Joongi gaped to get them all laughing hard.
"No, there's no need for that," Saiki sighed and shook her head.
"I don't think I'd mind watching that, though," Chi-chan mused. Sa-chan even rose a brow at the idea. Kasuga frowned at how Sa-chan appeared interested.
"No thanks," Saiki said and pressed into Kiryu. "In fact, Seonhee, maybe you should just fuck Joongi already. He's been lusting after you for a long time."
"Excuse me?" she blinked. Joongi gaped and had to quickly turn to hide his face from her. "He's my underling. A damned good one. Why would he…?"
"You haven't noticed?" Saiki grinned a bit wickedly. "I'm sure he'd gladly strip for you if you asked him to. Just for the kicks."
"Hmm. Joongi…we're having a discussion later. Possibly alone," she said. Joongi looked at her with complete shock.
"Ah, okay! Well, where would the place be to set up a wedding room?" Kasuga said to quickly change the topic. They all turned to the door when it was suddenly kicked down.
"Kazuma Kiryu! Get him! He's the one we-!" the man started and went dead silent at the massive scythe that appeared out of thin air.
"Looks like…the loaf…was just…half a loaf…and sent…more crumbs…" Saiki said in her bubbly, husky whisper. She was standing and in an attack mode now to show she was ready to protect Kiryu at all costs.
"Hmm…" Kiryu frowned hard. The group of ten men in black suits found themselves at a loss for words at the sight of the powerful group in the Survive Bar. Kiryu rose up to stand and he placed his hands on Saiki's shoulders to keep her mind stable. "Who are all of you?"
"We need you as our leader!" the man said.
"He asked who are all of you. We need answers before he can do anything," Kasuga said. "None of us know what you all want."
"We'll reveal that after he comes with us," another man said.
"I'm retired! Leave me alone!" Kiryu growled.
"You are the strongest man we know of. No one else can lead us like you could! Just…can you please hear us out?" the first man asked. Saiki growled and tightened her grip on the scythe. Her entire body was tense like a coiled spring.
"Did you forget that we are also here? We are just as strong as Kiryu-san is. And he's riddled with cancer. You would end up killing him," Daigo frowned and moved to walk in front of Saiki to get in the way. "You go through me to get to them. As much as Saiki could easily slice you all open within half a second, I won't let her get that chance unless I'm gone first."
"Not the only one," Taiga nodded and stood with him. Goro smirked, took out his dagger and stood with his two friends. Then Kasuga moved to stand in front of them with the others.
"We don't need to fight," Kiryu whispered softly to Saiki.
"Until…they are gone…I can't…relax…" Saiki said with a small wince.
"I know. Just hang back and be with me. Okay?" he soothed.
"They are all in the way…" she started to hiss out softly.
"No! Come back to me!" Kiryu said quickly to get her to refocus on him. She cringed and shook her head. "That's right. Come back to me. That's it."
"We can take them on now! Quick!" another man said. Then he found himself gutted open and split in half with both sides of his body falling away in a bloody mess. Saiki had effortlessly leapt over everyone and brought the scythe down in a single, smooth motion. Goro was simply awed that she was able to jump and maneuver the scythe in such a tight space. It made him realize exactly how deadly she really was and capable to kill in any environment.
"Shit!" Tomi gaped. Saiki hissed with a savage growl to show she was livid. Kiryu had to push past everyone to grab her and pull her back to the bar. Space had to be made to be kept from getting in the way of the massive scythe, and everyone had to back away quickly.
"Saiki! Look at me!" Kiryu urged. She whined and shook her head as though fighting off something.
"Upstairs! Take her there!" the bartender said and pointed at the stairs. Kiryu nodded and hauled her up the flight of steps. He was floored at the raw strength her four and a half foot frame had. She kept the scythe out even when he slammed the door shut. When he turned to look at her, she had fallen to her knees with wracking sobs and could only cling to him when he held her. He moved into a sitting position to pull her right into his lap.
"Easy!" he soothed.
"I'm…trying…!" she gasped. He continued to whisper softly to her until her breathing slowed and the intense shaking stopped. The scythe was still out, though. He knew she couldn't put it away until the threat was gone.
"Easy…" he whispered and kissed her forehead.
"I…hate this…so much…!" she whimpered and pressed into him.
"I know. I know," he muttered and rocked her. She started crying again from the frustration, and all he could do was hold her. When the door was lightly knocked on, she spat out a protective hiss and hurled a dagger straight into the door. It sunk in right through to the handle.
"Okay! Not safe yet!" Kasuga was heard shouting to the others.
"Hmm…" Kiryu frowned hard. Saiki was still glaring at the door and ready to attack it. He kissed her forehead again gently. "Calm down. I'm sure things are under control now. Just listen to my voice."
"I'm trying…" she shuddered.
"It's okay, Aika," he muttered in her ear. That got her to calm down a bit more, but she was still quite clearly on edge.
"I don't…want…to be here…" she swallowed and shook all over again.
"I figured as much," he said. "But…we should still get married."
"What?" she blinked at him. At his small grin, she found herself sighing and shaking her head. When his phone rang, he saw it was Kasuga.
"I didn't know how else to talk to you," Kasuga said.
"Hey. This is likely the safest way to talk right now. So, good job on that," Kiryu sighed. "She'll be in a killing mood until those guys are gone."
"All but one of them left. And they took what was left of that other guy, too. But this one guy…he wants to talk to you, though. Alone. And we said that if he didn't want to be like his buddy, then he should talk to all of us. Needless to say, he grudgingly agreed," Kasuga said with a smirk in his tone.
"I will kill him the moment I see him," Saiki vowed.
"Yep. You stay upstairs. I'll put this phone on speaker," Kasuga mused and now had the phone set up for all to hear and talk into. "Okay, my man! Start talking before she flies down here and turns you into a meatball. Literally."
"I'll put my phone on speaker, too, but I'll have it muted for now. Just let him talk. If I feel I need to answer, I will," Kiryu muttered and did just that. He set the muted phone down and continued to hug Saiki to him to keep her calm. Now the man downstairs was starting to ramble on with why his group did what they did and how they wanted to make a better change in society. Kiryu groaned with a form of pitiful disgust and shook his head. Then he paused at how Saiki traced a hand up his chest and undid a button from his shirt. "What's this mood now, eh?"
"I need to calm down. That idiot is talking about shit we've already heard before. The phone is muted. I need you to fuck me silly so I can see how quiet we can both be with everyone downstairs. You game?" she grinned wickedly.
"I absolutely love how you think," he grinned back and pressed a lusty kiss on her mouth. It was five minutes later when the bartender paused in wiping a glass clean to hear the odd shuffling coming above him. He glanced up at the ceiling and found himself snickering lightly to himself.
"What's so funny?" Adachi asked while trying to keep from falling asleep from listening to the rambling man.
"I think…our little couple upstairs…are, eh…yeah…" the bartender grinned.
"Hmm?" Adachi frowned. Then he hid his face at the light grinding motion the bartender did. "Ah. Yeah…"
"Kiryu-san, what do you think of all this?" Kasuga finally said when the man found a break in his sob story. When there was no answer, he said again, "Kiryu-san?! Are you okay?"
"Yeah!" Kiryu said when he finally got to the phone to unmute. "Sorry. I, eh…got distracted. I honestly didn't pay much attention to anything."
"What?" Sa-chan asked with confusion.
"He's fucking me silly to keep my ass calmed down!" Saiki finally said over the phone to get the entire room gasping and dying with laughter. "Give us five more minutes! Hey! Asshole! Not Goro, but the other one! Talk to Seonhee about joining the Geomijul!"
"What?!" Seonhee asked while even more laughter happened.
"So now my name to her is asshole…great…" Goro muttered out to get Taiga dying with laughter.
"I've been mildly listening in to everything. He wants to have a group that has structure and meaning. Sure, Kazuma could guide in that, but he doesn't have the strength anymore. Your group already has that. What I don't understand is why he let Dog Catcher's bitch lead them when it was clearly to their own destruction! Unless…it's because she knew where we were and vowed to get him to them while I went to her. I think the little whore forgot how intensely I trained…" Saiki mused. "Either way, their group should join yours."
"A very interesting concept…" Seonhee mused.
"Muting now. We'll be down in ten minutes!" Kiryu growled and got them laughing again. She had just stretched herself out on him to make him gasp with intense pleasure. It took another five minutes for them to calm down, and she was resting against him with complete comfort. She had her face pressed into his neck, and he had his eyes mildly closed to enjoy her presence. He was leaning back against a wall with complete relaxation.
"I love you…" she whispered.
"You know I love you…" he muttered softly and caressed her back. "I suppose we need to clean up a bit."
"Okay. But the scythe stays out until I know things are made right," she growled. He smiled softly and kissed her passionately before letting her move out of his lap. "Should we manage to get married, I'm going to demand a solid day of no interruptions with you."
"I'll agree to that," he nodded.
"Maybe we should wait for Gelek to arrive…" she mused.
"Oh?"
"I would like him to witness it. And, if he has the right permissions, he may be the one to marry us…" she chuckled. Now he found himself liking the idea immensely. "Of course, I need to know when he calls me."
"Yeah," he agreed. They were able to fix up clothing and she grabbed her scythe to walk out the door first with it. Then Kiryu watched her effortlessly pull the dagger out of the door to put it in her back belt loop again next to her sickles. When she saw the black suited man standing there at the bottom of the stairs, she gave a hissing growl of solid mistrust. Kiryu kept his hands on her shoulders to ensure she stayed at his side.
"Just who are you to him?" the man had to ask.
"Think of her as my wife," Kiryu said with a small nod. "A wedding is going to be formalized in the next few days. But she is my partner and equal. Don't piss her off anymore. You saw what she can do."
"But…who are you?" he asked her.
"I am the Headhunter of the Yakuza!" she snarled out. All of the color drained from his face. Then she grinned wickedly. "You've heard of me. That's good. And I'm sure you heard my suggestion. Right?"
"Yes…" the man whimpered out.
"I'm curious now," she mused and pulled a chair over with her leg. Kiryu sat down and let her recline against him in his lap. She set the scythe to stand upright on its own with the blade as the base. "What stories do you know about me? What wild…thrilling tales…were spun? I must know…"
"Do you have to keep that thing out?" Tomi asked when he kept grimacing at her scythe. She grinned back at him.
"Until I know that my…husband…is no longer going to have his life threatened…yeah…" she said with a knowing tone.
"You said he was your boyfriend before…?" the man frowned.
"He asked me to marry him. I said yes. And he considers us married now. I'm not complaining. Are you?" she asked and narrowed her glare at him.
"No! Not at all!" he said quickly.
"Good. Now…what do you know about me?" Saiki asked and giggled softly at Kiryu's kiss to her mouth.
"I love you…" he muttered in her ear.
"I love you," she said with a warm smile. Then they both turned to glare sharply at the man. Joongi actually got chills that ran down his spine. That vibe they both give off together! Is that normal?!
"Hmm. He's not talking…" Kiryu frowned.
"That he isn't. Ah…fuck!" Saiki said and bolted upright to stand when her phone rang with the soft, tingling bell chime. She took out a needle used for acupuncture and threw it like a dart at the man's forehead. He fell flat on his back in a deep sleep.
"What did you-?!" Kiryu gaped.
"Later!" she muttered and answered the phone. "Gelek?!"
"Ah! Yes! It's me," Gelek said. "I leave tomorrow at dawn. I'll get in around sunset in Japan. Around…eight in the evening."
"You'll be arriving at eight in the evening. Good. I informed my allies. We will expect you. And…again…thank you," Saiki said.
"Of course. I will be bringing the items in flat, brown parcels with my bags. None of it is lethal or will bring alarm. But…still very priceless for what they can do. I will have one other with me to ensure my safety," Gelek said.
"That's fine. We will expect both of you," Saiki nodded and the call ended. Then she gave a massive sigh of relief and looked at Kiryu. "Gelek and a companion of his will be leaving tomorrow at dawn to arrive after sunset. As for that guy…well…if you know where to put an acupuncture needle…he's sleeping."
"You studied acupuncture?" Nanba blinked.
"Nothing else to do," she grinned and let Kiryu pull her back into his lap.
"Oh! Ah…you found what I left you?" Nanba chuckled.
"Yes. And it wasn't used," Kiryu nodded.
"What?!" Nanba gaped.
"If she gets pregnant, it's not like I'm going to abandon her. Right?" Kiryu smirked and kissed Saiki's cheek. Kasuga's jaw dropped at this. "Besides. You only gave us one. And I was just upstairs with her."
"He's right," Zhao nodded. Seonhee was laughing in her palm at the whole thing. Chi-chan was on her phone to look up baby items and accessories along with wedding supplies. Sa-chan was already doing the same thing on her phone.
"Oh. Something we were thinking of. As Gelek is a monk from Tibet, we thought it may be nice for him to service the wedding. We'll ask if he's interested. Also, I have a bit of a list of things Saiki needs to do tomorrow. So it can be done while he's in the air. She's never been to school. She barely knows how to drive. I want to teach her how to drive in full and see how much of a general education she has. This is important," Kiryu said.
"Abandoned parking lots would be the way to go," Tomi said.
"There's a few of them. I can get one located," Seonhee smiled.
"That guy's sleeping?" Joongi asked with disbelief.
"Yep! Want to wake him up? Remove the needle," Saiki nodded. "I just didn't want him to hear what he didn't need to know."
"Can you do that next time instead of turn my bar into a bloodbath?" the bartender asked. "So much better to work with."
"I can do that. But what's your name? All this time…I never got introduced to you formally," Saiki mused. He does look familiar…is it true…?
"I am Osamu Kashiwagi. At your service," he nodded with a small bow.
"Hmm…" she frowned. She studied his features again, and gave a small smile. "I know you…but will honor…your name. You flew me out…to several missions…discreetly. I was in a crate…to be kept hidden…from view. Dog Catcher's idea…and I am pleased…that you lived…through that near…crash…"
"Ah…!" Osamu gaped and stared at her with complete shock. Now she gave him a pained smile with a small nod. He regained himself and said, "If you ever need a place to stay for an emergency…my bar is yours."
"I thank you," she nodded to him.
"If this monk really does have a possible way to help Kiryu-san, too, then bring him here. He'll be safe and can use the room upstairs," he added.
"That will help. Thanks," Kiryu nodded to him now. "What did you want to do, Saiki? We still have that guy on the floor."
"Just pull the pin. If I do it and he sees me…he might shit his pants," Saiki smirked. That got Goro grinning and he moved right up to the sleeping man. He carefully pulled out the needle for the guy to blink awake. His sadistic grin and eye patch made the guy shout with shock.
"Wakey, wakey!" Goro snickered.
"What the hell happened?!" the man demanded and quickly rose to his feet.
"An acupuncture needle, when applied directly to the center of ones' forehead…it induces sleep. Instantly," Saiki chuckled and set the needle back with a bunch of others. "I still want to know…what you were told about me…"
"You'd better tell her so she can put away her weapon," Kiryu muttered. He chuckled when she pressed her back into his chest and nuzzled his neck.
"You smell good…" she murmured.
"You are simply delicious," he grinned and kissed her heavily. Then he returned his attention to the man to start talking.
"Well…we heard the stories of how you took out all those men. Within minutes! I had my doubts…but after what was seen today…eh…" the man failed to put words together.
"Good. Seonhee, what do you think? He can join your crew and you can test him?" Saiki asked.
"I was thinking about it. He's got balls. I want to know if they've fully dropped. So, I'll put him through a recruiting phase," Seonhee grinned in knowing. Kasuga cleared his throat and coughed to hide his small laugh. Joongi was already calling to the ones that handled that. "And that goes to all his little friends. If they want in, they let us know. We test them and see if they make the cut. Everyone gets one chance. That's it."
"I'll tell them now! How do we reach you?" the man asked. A number to Joongi's phone was given, and the man finally left. Right after he left, Kiryu started coughing and clutching at his chest. Saiki moved to settle upright in his lap and rubbed his chest gently. It wasn't working this time.
"I read about this. I have some turmeric powder with me. I need some warmed milk! Now!" she snapped out. Osamu moved into his personal fridge to pour out a cup of milk. Zhao was already with him to start preparing a way to heat it up. On seeing this, she said, "We need to blend the turmeric powder into it. Here's the powder…"
"I have it!" Nanba said and took the small bag of yellow powder over to get blended in. "I think this stuff stains, so be careful."
"Yes, it definitely does," Saiki nodded. "I'll have to bring more with me. It fully alleviates internal pain and swelling of various things."
"It's ready," Zhao said and brought over the yellowish-orange mixture.
"Take a sip," Saiki instructed Kiryu gently. "I know it tastes like shit, but even you know it helps."
"Yeah…" he gasped out softly and took a healthy swallow. She waited for it to start taking effect before giving him the rest. He rested his head against her shoulder with intense relief.
"I need to get him home to finish recovering," she said. Then her gaze darkened. "And I'll slaughter anyone that objects to this."
"You heard the lady! Let's get them home!" Tomi said quickly.
"Maybe…if he's well enough…we'll do more today. I really don't know if we can do anything until he's stable," Saiki frowned and moved to let Kiryu lean heavily against her. She grabbed her scythe to finally put it away and set it back on her belt.
"I'm feeling a bit better…but…" Kiryu winced.
"I know," she nodded.
"Do you think we could all hang out with you for a bit?" Kasuga asked hopefully. "We could even do some karaoke!"
"Hmm…I suppose you all could relax in the karaoke chamber for now. Just do not bother us until Kazuma is able to stand again," Saiki nodded. Kiryu nodded weakly and coughed again. "I think I can pull out that oxygen tank…"
"You have an oxygen tank?!" Nanba blinked.
"It was requested as an emergency need while I was trapped below. I'm just glad the ventilation system kicked on when I activated the button above. The stale air was cycled out fast," Saiki chuckled. "And we did change out the filters, too. I'll have to improve the air quality a bit more for Kazuma."
"She doesn't need to prove she has general education. She's genius level at this point," Adachi chuckled and helped get Kiryu to Tomi's minivan. "I mean, that's why she was discovered, unfortunately."
"True…" Kiryu chuckled and coughed again. After ten minutes of vehicle distribution, the drive back to the park was swift and uneventful. It was when they got there that Saiki's eyes narrowed at the confrontation. There were four men waiting for them in front of the elevator, and the entire group was now on edge.
"You are the Headhunter of the Yakuza?" a man in a suit and dark glasses asked. "If you are, I need to speak with you."
"If you are with the Daidoji…I will talk to you. But only after Kazuma is stable. And he wanted me to have nothing to do with you. So, if you piss me off, your faction will get a gift wrapped package containing your head at the foot of their doorstep. All four of you. Understood?" Saiki said carefully to ensure she was heard clearly.
"Ah! Uh…right. Of course…" the man nodded quickly.
"Now get the fuck out of the way," Saiki growled dangerously.
"Yeah, she killed six guys all at once. We witnessed that," Tomi nodded. That got all four men to shuffle about nervously.
"And made a bomb out of one of their heads," Goro smirked.
"Ah…" one of the men went speechless.
"And don't you fucking dare think of taking over my home for your personal needs!" Saiki spat out with intense hatred. "You four can come in. But you go with the others. Nowhere else. I have cameras everywhere. And if you really piss me off, I'll have you go in the front way. Don't fuck with me."
"Right…" the first man swallowed.
"And don't call for anyone," she warned. "Only my phone and Kazuma's phone will work. I programmed a system that way."
"You have technical hacking skills?!" a third man gaped.
"Insanely technical. And all self-taught," she muttered and activated the elevator with her key. She programmed it to allow three trips within ten minutes before locking down. "Seonhee, please go in last? I've set the elevator to allow three trips and lockdown after ten minutes."
"I can do that," Seonhee nodded. "Joongi will stand in the elevator the whole time to ensure who comes in."
"Of course," Joongi nodded with full agreement. Saiki went in with Kiryu, Kasuga and Nanba first to ensure the guest bedroom was accessible. She set up Kiryu with the oxygen tank and a facial mask to strap on him. She set the oxygen to go out at a steady pace and timed his breathing with his heartbeat. When she was sure his breathing stabilized, she had him fully lay back to rest and recover.
"How is he?" Kasuga frowned when he walked over.
"I got him the turmeric just in time. He's doing much better. Just give him ten minutes with the oxygen. He may move a bit slowly until his body catches up with him," Saiki nodded at him. "Nanba, please watch his breathing? I need to lock up my security room."
"Go for it," Nanba nodded and pulled up a chair to sit by the bed.
"Is there anything I can make for Kiryu-san?" Zhao asked when he walked in. She knew everyone want to see to Kiryu's health first.
"I did make some herbal tea already. It needs to be heated. Let me get a mug of it and you can handle that," Saiki said while walking into her security room. I DO NOT want those Daidoji assholes to discover this room! Fuck that!
She swiftly got the mug of lukewarm tea to bring over to the kitchen and locked up the security room the moment she walked out of it. She glared with mistrust at the four men looking around, and she gave a hiss of warning when one of them tried to peek into her bedroom. That got the man to fluster and found himself corralled to the karaoke chamber by Daigo.
"How did you acquire all of this?" the first man said with awe at the main screens and setup.
"I had ways and means. That's all you'll get. So, you four go up on the stage and talk to me from there," she said. "Kazuma is resting and recovering. The moment he walks around, I'll give him an herbal tea that helps with his pain."
"Of course," the first man said. Then they looked over to see Kiryu walking into the karaoke chamber and ignoring Nanba's orders of protest.
"I have to be in there with my wife," Kiryu growled out.
"At least drink the tea!" Nanba pleaded.
"When I'm sitting with her. I want to ask the questions," he said.
"If you overexert yourself, I will kick your ass," Saiki warned him. Kiryu grinned lightly despite the chuckles and laughter from the others.
"I am well aware," he said and made her squeak when he lifted her up in his arms. He sat down with her in his lap now and took the mug of tea to drink. Only after it was done did he look over at the four men on the stage. He was about to say something, but he saw Saiki take up the remote to activate the cameras and set them to record. "Really?"
"For our safety," she murmured lightly. He nodded and pressed a kiss on her cheek before looking at the four men again.
"I'd ask for your names, but I find it a bit redundant. I just want to know why you're here," Kiryu said.
"We want to recruit the Headhunter of the Yakuza," the first man started.
"No," Kiryu said flatly. "She loses herself in a haze of murdering death until the job is done. If she finds out that someone is in the way, they are also dead. It doesn't matter who it is. I witnessed it. So did everyone else here. She leapt over all of us to kill someone. Nothing gets in her way of a kill."
"I make…bread crumbs…" she said with a soft, bubbly giggle.
"Not now. Focus on me," he muttered. She shivered and pressed her face into his neck. "As you see, only I am able to bring her back around. If it wasn't for me here…we'd be looking at your insides by now."
"What?!" the fourth man said with shock.
"She is not available for hire or recruitment. I can get how you likely learned about her with how you always keep an eye on me. And if you saw the destruction she leaves behind her…you don't want to be responsible for that," Kiryu said with complete knowing.
"We'll talk about this with our superiors…" the first man said quickly.
"See that you do. Because if she thinks I'm under threat…she'll hunt and kill every member of the Daidoji without a second thought," Kiryu said with complete warning to all four men. "It's how she was trained. And she was even confined below the Tojo headquarters without anyone even knowing save for one man. And he's dead now."
"Dog Catcher had it coming…" she growled.
"I know," he nodded and kissed her softly. "If there is anything she needs, it is a form of documentation. She has…nothing at all. We just found her birth certificate in her old home. With her real name. And she doesn't want anyone to know what that is for her own safety."
"What was her birthday?" the second man asked.
"We are not disclosing that," Saiki spat out with hatred.
"As she said," Kiryu nodded.
"You have now overstayed your welcome. Get out of my home," she said with a narrowed stare at them.
"Wait!" the first man said quickly. "We saw there was a purchase attempt on the destroyed Tojo headquarters. We want to help in exchange for her support."
"No," Saiki said. "We are handling it just fine. And I don't want any other factions saying they own a piece of the property to stake their own claim and rules on it. I won't tolerate that."
"Oh…" the man blinked. She knew it was exactly what they were planning, too. When her gaze started to darken, Kiryu was quick to place his hand over her eyes to get her to look at him.
"They won't touch the land," he muttered in her ear. Then he turned to look at the four men. "You heard her. No deal. Get out of here."
"And don't think that this underground base is up for grabs with legal means. I had that covered a long time ago to be under a strict name and contract. This place is mine in full. We are done talking. You'd better leave now before I forget that I allowed you to come in," Saiki grounded out.
"If this place is yours…then wouldn't the land with the Tojo headquarters also be yours?" Taiga asked with a small thought. That had Saiki blink at that.
"I think…I need to look at my land contract…" she mused. "Get them out of here. I don't want them to learn anything else."
"They may already have what they need," Adachi frowned. The four men were quickly escorted out, and she got up with Kiryu to watch the camera monitors to ensure they were gone. Then she took the recording she did to save it to her server. Now she showed Kiryu the digital contract she had of the land she owned.
"We already own the land above us…" Kiryu said with shock. "It's still good to make the claim, but now we can show we are merely authorizing it into effect. This…will save lots of time…"
"So…the funds we are getting could go to reconstruction…" she mused.
"We need to get this contract to the right people," Kiryu said.
"Who would that be?" she frowned.
"I know of a detective…" he said while thinking aloud. "We can trust him. He's helped me in the past before. Let me call him now, okay?"
"If you say so," she said. He pressed a kiss to her forehead and moved out of the security room to make the phone call.
"Makoto…" Kiryu said when the call picked up.
"Hey! I was wondering what happened to you. Everything okay?" an older male voice answered. "Last I heard you were quite unwell."
"I'm still unwell, but I'm moving around again. Anyways, I'm going to give you an address to meet me at. It's close to the prior Tojo headquarters, and…I need some insight. Fast. Before the Daidoji get ideas," Kiryu said carefully. The sound of scrambling around was heard now.
"Address?" the man asked. It was given, and the call disconnected soon after. Kiryu moved to walk right up to Saiki and got a tight squeeze from her.
"Expect someone in the next ten minutes. Let's print that out," Kiryu said on looking at the virtual document on the computer screen.
"Already done," she said and handed him three pages. He chuckled and kissed her forehead before leading her out to the others.
"I have a friend coming. He's a cop on our side. If you don't want to be seen by him, leave now," Kiryu said.
"We're seen everywhere else," Goro shrugged.
"If there's something to eat, I can stick around," Taiga said. Daigo clearly wasn't budging. No one else made plans to leave.
"I think the kitchen has enough stocked for snacks. I'll go check," Zhao chuckled and made his way off to do just that.
"You turned off that oxygen tank?" Saiki asked Nanba.
"The moment he left the bed," Nanba nodded.
"We should sing some karaoke," Sa-chan said.
"We could do a song…" Kiryu mused.
"Get the music box…" Saiki smiled. He looked at her oddly. "I think…this group is safe to hear it."
"Something hidden?" Adachi asked.
"I am totally game for this!" Chi-chan beamed.
"You got me curious," Kasuga chuckled. Kiryu was already getting the valuable music box and setting it up on a stand. Seonhee was clearly amazed at it.
"That is gorgeous!" she said.
"Yes. It was stolen by Dog Catcher as a looted item from my place of birth," Saiki said softly. That got small gasps of shock from them. She moved up to the stage to wind it up and lift the lid. At the song the filtered through, many of them recognized it from the first eerie tune she gave them. Then she closed the lid and activated the song from her playlist to sing with Kiryu.
"How did you get this song?" Joongi asked.
"I'm sure they'll tell us after they sing," Seonhee said with a light frown. Kiryu sang to back her up and lightly twirl her around him. When the song was done, he moved to lift up the lid to play the song again and let the key wind down. Right after that, he pressed a kiss on her mouth before setting her aside to put the jewelry box away.
"That song was one that my parents picked for me. And I know this…because they left an old music cassette tape in the bottom of the jewelry box for me to find and play…" Saiki said with a sad sigh. That got more gasps from the others. "No. I don't want anyone to hear it. They call me by my real name there. And I only want Kazuma to know it."
"Our guest arrived," Kiryu said while escorting in a man with black hair wearing a heavy, tan coat. He paused at the sight of Saiki's dark blue gaze studying him in a rather critical way.
"My husband says you are trustworthy. Pray that he spoke the truth," Saiki said calmly. Kiryu moved to stand with her and ran a hand over her back.
"Unless he proves me wrong, I have never lied to you," Kiryu chuckled.
"He's your husband?" the man frowned.
"I asked her to marry me. She said yes. I've only been with her for a month…but I love her intensely. And with my health failing…we agreed to not wait on it," Kiryu nodded. "Saiki, this is Makoto. He's helped us here and there."
"I see. Very well," she nodded.
"Who are you exactly?" Makoto asked.
"I am the Headhunter of the Yakuza," she smirked.
"I don't see how you could be…ah…" the detective gaped at the sight of the massive scythe that now appeared at her side.
"She knows how to use that, too," Kasuga said.
"Yeah, we've all seen her use it," Tomi grimaced.
"And if you want further proof…" Saiki muttered and took off the black lace cardigan. She turned to let her back be seen.
"Why didn't we know about her?!" Makoto said with complete shock.
"Because she was considered a hidden weapon of the Tojo Clan. I barely knew of her. And she managed to escape her prison here to talk to me for only ten minutes around fifteen years ago," Kiryu frowned.
"Does her hair even grow?" Makoto asked.
"It was surgically done so it wouldn't grow out to cover the tattoo. To spite her," Kiryu said. He pulled her into his arms to carry her and comfort her to be closer to his height. "She's one of the deadliest people I know. And she's clearly deadlier than I am from her training."
"You're making me blush…" Saiki giggled softly. He chuckled, kissed her in a loving way and enjoyed the feel of her hand in his hair. "Are you sure you're feeling better?"
"That herbal crap you're giving me is…actually working better than over half of the hospital medicines! I'm sure I'll need stronger stuff if it gets worse…" he frowned and squeezed her. "Just keep at it, okay?"
"I plan to," she nodded.
"How was she found?" Makoto asked.
"Okay, we'll do this. I'll replay that video. This way you all can see the ending you missed. But I will not be in the room for the replay. I just can't," Saiki frowned. Kiryu moved to the main seat and let her set the video playback feature. When it started, the remote was given to Seonhee with instructions on how to stop the video when it was done. Then Kiryu carried Saiki out of the karaoke chamber.
"It'll be done soon," he said and let her press into him. He sat down on the couch and lay back with her nestled with complete comfort in his arms.
"Why is he here again? He's getting…nosey…" she grumbled.
"It is his nature," Kiryu nodded. "He needs to know the importance of this. He also doesn't like the Daidoji."
"Well…that's one plus…" she mused.
"Yeah," he agreed. She found herself getting drowsy just by hearing him breathe and feeling his heartbeat. He started to hum a tune softly and stroke her hair. This was something he actually did for her in the past month while they watched a late night program. She found herself getting kissed heavily after another minute of it, and it only broke off when movement was done in the other room to show the video was finished.
"We should have taken our fucking time with him…" Goro muttered when he walked over to sit down on a chair. "I wonder if there's any bones left that I can step on and crack…"
"You're welcome to look," Saiki smirked.
"He hid you from everyone. And used you to no end. I probably would have joined the lineup when the confrontation happened," Makoto admitted. "Anyways, it's confirmed that he's dead. What's the main issue you have now?"
"I have a document that shows I own this portion of land. It was done years ago. And it, apparently, includes the destroyed Tojo headquarters, too, as the main entrance here was below it. We need it in the system to report it as private property. We also want to…rebuild to a point. Maybe to help former yakuza learn how to integrate into society. Not to rebuild a Clan. But to help them become proper citizens," Saiki said carefully.
"We were thinking, or at least I was thinking, that we could create an orphanage, too. To help children in need in a very safe environment," Kiryu nodded. "And we were…thinking of adopting some of our own. I was hoping to find a few at Morning Glory. Discreetly."
"And that can be a problem with the Daidoji. Unless…maybe they can meet you here…" Makoto mused. "Is there was another entrance?"
"It's not safe. It's mainly used for intruders. There is a side way in and the main way that was from the Tojo building. Come," Saiki said and got up from Kiryu's lap. He got up after her to follow her with a few others. "There isn't much space here, but…you all are finally going to see my security room. Do not breathe a word of its existence. This is an act of trust."
"I won't say anything," Kasuga nodded. The others voiced the same. Now they were able to marvel at all the technology that was being done.
"Zhao, I was working on something for you, but I have to perfect it. Ever wanted a chef knife that could act like a boomerang? So you can use it in the kitchen and outside of it?" Saiki grinned.
"Really?!" Zhao gasped with delight. "I am totally wanting to see this!"
"My workshop is just beyond the security room. It's the same with my training room. If any of you feel you want to enhance your skills…let me know. I'll judge the level and set it up," Saiki nodded.
"This place is awesome…" Seonhee said when she saw the training room. It was a massive room with areas of little to no space for movement, some areas for fighting off darts, training dummies and other practice targets. Various weapons even lined the walls with detailed instructions on how to use each one.
"Some of these weapons are illegal…" Makoto frowned at the sight of a grenade launcher. "But…no one knows I'm here. I'll just…think they're all movie props. I can go with that."
"Good," Kiryu nodded and watched Saiki show how the boomerang knife was coming along.
"It can return back, but it's slightly off on the return. I just need to correct the handle a bit with the return wind…hmm…" Saiki mused while fixing the weapon. "Okay. That should do it. A long throw goes for longer. A short throw can also go for longer if the wind carries it. If you want to practice using it, go into the training room."
"I am definitely testing this!" Zhao grinned and marveled at the black leather binding of the dual chef blade. The blades were set in the handle with the classic boomerang shape with the blades facing opposite sides. He saw they could even come apart for kitchen use. Small onyx and tiger eye gemstones lined the handles, and it was incredibly comfortable to grip when together and separate.
"I don't name my weapons. Some do…but I don't. Just use it respectfully," Saiki nodded and blushed at Kiryu's squeeze when he came up behind her. She studied the false glasses and took them off to replenish the dose of anti-neurotoxin in them. Kiryu felt oddly different without them on.
"I actually like wearing those…" he said. "But I think I may need real ones."
"Are your eyes getting fuzzy?" Saiki asked.
"Not really, but…hmm…maybe I should get my eyes checked out," he admitted. "Do you have an eye chart?"
"I do, actually," she grinned. "It came with one of my books. We'll check it out later on."
"That works," Kiryu chuckled.
"Who built all of this?" Makoto asked.
"I did. After it was excavated by the right teams. All from the Tojo Clan's funding when I requested it for skill enhancement. Some things I stole…other things were purchased. If it wasn't for the encyclopedia books, I likely would have no idea what was going on," Saiki shrugged.
"You taught yourself?" Makoto blinked. She smiled and gestured for him to follow her into her library. He was stunned at how many books she had, but she pointed to a set of leather-bound books with golden etching. They clearly had a lot of use, and other books lined the walls that were far more up to date.
"Those books taught me what I needed to know on how to request things and improve myself. If it wasn't for a group of women that took the time to secretly teach me how to read and write…" Saiki frowned. Kiryu had walked over to her now to lift her into his arms. A gentle kiss was pressed to her mouth, and he let her snuggle into his neck. "I am scared…of your cancer, Kazuma…"
"I know. Hopefully…something will happen tomorrow," he nodded and kissed her forehead gently.
"Tomorrow? Is there something else going on?" Makoto asked.
"There is. Tomorrow around dusk, there will be a pair of Tibetan monks paying us a visit. They have a possible herbal cure of sorts for my cancer. If not a cure…then something to significantly set it back. They must be protected and they will be brought to the Survive Bar to hide them," Kiryu said.
"I called in a favor. It's being answered swiftly," Saiki nodded. "I spared the life of one of the monks. Mainly because he realized my mind was torn from how I was raised. He gave me something to help. We've been in contact ever since. I'm still…coping with day to day society. It's rough…"
"If you were trapped here to be left forgotten…I can see that," Makoto frowned. "Simply unheard of."
"Other than that, the main reason we wanted you here was for the land claim. We want it done smoothly and you know who to talk to. Right?" Kiryu asked him. Makoto mused at this and nodded.
"Yeah. Someone actually owes me a favor, come to think of it. You have the contract? I'll get on that now," he agreed.
"We can make more copies," Saiki nodded. Kiryu carried her back to the security room, and she gave an uneasy sound at how everyone was around the computer monitors. "Is there a reason why my security room has so much…fascination?"
"Oh! Well…it's just…the way everything is done is just…it's so good! We didn't click on anything, of course, but we're just amazed at what you've done for yourself! It's very inspiring," Chi-chan said.
"I see. Just be glad you didn't try to open files or download any of them. If they were opened, the system crashes. They have to be opened in a specific order. And if any of them are downloaded…they encrypt themselves to be useless and spread a virus into the other system to cripple it and break it," Saiki grinned.
"That would be effective," Tomi found himself nodding.
"Anyways, it's nearing dusk. We have 24 hours until Gelek gets here with his companion. Gelek is the monk I spoke to. If there are no plans, I need Kazuma to rest and recover. You all can figure out what you want to do," Saiki said.
"That means we're getting kicked out," Taiga nodded.
"I need to see to the Geomijul headquarters and get it ready for a wedding. Who wants to help?" Seonhee asked. They all optioned for it, and Saiki activated the elevator from the security room. Makoto took the documents when he left, and the couple was soon left alone.
"Zhao was planning to cook something, but I don't think he got around to it," Saiki said. "I think there's still some leftover dinner. Did you want something? Or are you good for now?"
"I actually think I should eat," Kiryu said and set her down gently. He followed her into the kitchen and helped bring out the extra lobster and shellfish. Saiki was a touch surprised to find that Zhao did prepare some vegetables for them, so they easily had that as a side dish.
"Did you want to watch a movie? Play a game?" she asked when they finished eating. He found himself optioning for a game. He sat next to her and motioned for her to play something. She shook her head and chose a game about trivia. For the next hour, they took turns guessing the answers to the various questions. After several rounds of it, he gave a yawn of complete exhaustion.
"I think…I'm seriously starting to feel my age…" he sighed.
"Did you need something else?" she asked.
"Just you…" he muttered and found himself kissing her intensely.
