"I don't care. It helped her last time, so do it again."

"Elijah," Rebekah interjected, "she's probably right, if this Inadu is as bad as Vincent says then you shouldn't be weakening yourself anymore than you have to."

"I have to do this, Rebekah." He threw back, quickly turning her words around on her. "Elena can't even stay awake, what if Inadu does come here? She iss a sitting duck up there!"

"We'll protect her, Elijah!"

"What if we can't?" The words burst from him in an abrupt shout, his features softening when he saw Davina flinch out of the corner of his eye. "She has to be able to look out for herself, even if its only a little bit," turning to the young witch he sighed, "Davina, please, help me look after her."

Echoing his sigh, Davina's shoulders slumped, both of them well aware that he'd managed to hit her weak point. "Fine." She bit out, ignoring as Rebekah threw her hands up in irritation. "I'll channel you, but we stop when I say you've done enough."

Holding her gaze for a few moments, Elijah nodded softly, knowing a losing battle when he saw one. "Thank you."

Perching on the side of Elena's bed, Elijah took one of her hands into both of his, gripping tightly as Davina stood on the other side of her, picking up her other hand. Nodding when she turned to face him, he turned his gaze to Elena's face, squeezing her hand as Davina began whispering the spell under breath.

Sucking in a harsh breath as he felt his energy beginning to drain, he closed his eyes, focusing only on Elena.

Then, as abruptly as it had began it stopped, causing his eyes to fly open. "Davina." He uttered, his voice tight as she glared back at him.

"No." She said firmly. "I said we stop when I say so, and I'm saying so. As much as I love Elena, if The Hollow comes for her, she needs you. I've taken enough that she'll wake soon; she should be lucid for a little while." Gently releasing Elena's hand, she spared a glance at the sleeping doppelganger before turning back to Elijah. "I'll make sure Rebekah gets some blood ready for her, she'll probably need it."

"Davina," Elijah called making her pause in the doorway and turn back to face him with a raised eyebrow, "thank you."

Letting out a huff of breath, Elijah adjusted the towel heater in the bathroom, turning it up as high as it would go, to warm through the plush grey towel he hung there, knowing without a doubt that Elena would want to shower nearly as soon as she woke.

Hearing a soft groan from the bedroom behind him, he turned to head back to Elena's side, his feet moving before his brain had caught up as he wrapped his arms around her waist, stopping her from falling to the floor in a heap.

Slowly helping her straighten up, he bent his head slightly, looking down at her as she blinked rapidly, seemingly regaining her bearings before looking up at him, smiling softly when she registered his presence fully.

"Hello." She whispered, a soft smile curling her lips as she met his eyes, her hands finding their ways to his shoulders.

"Hello." He returned, a soft laugh escaping him as he bent forward and pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head. "How do you feel?"

"Groggy." Elena muttered, rolling her neck backwards then forwards to rest her forehead on Elijah's chest, in no rush to lose their proximity. "How long was I asleep this time?"

Glancing at the clock behind her, Elijah released a soft breath. "Around twelve hours, on and off."

She grunted her disapproval, tilting her head back to pout at Elijah, narrowing her eyes when he laughed in response.

"I've already turned on the towel heater for you," he smiled, brushing a piece of hair behind her ear, "I thought you would want a shower when you woke."

Elena smiled back. "So thoughtful." She murmured, a soft hum escaping her throat as she tilted her lips up to meet his. "You could always join me…"

Narrowing his eyes at her, he caught a groan in his throat, joining their lips again for a few short moments. "I think listening ears would rather object." He whispered against her lips, smiling when he felt her mouth draw into a pout. "Go on," he whispered, giving her another soft kiss, "the shower is waiting."

Gently running her brush through her wet hair, Elena called out for her visitor to come in, knowing only one person would be knocking on her door at that moment. Offering him a soft smile in the mirror, she relinquished her brush to Elijah when he held his hand out for it.

Enjoying the feeling of him gently brushing her hair backwards, she smiled, raising an eyebrow at his reflection in the mirror when he started forming a plait.

"I didn't know you could braid." She said softly, confused when his eyes darted up to meet hers in the mirror, a soft frown on his face. "What?"

"I used to help Rebekah with her hair when she was human," he murmured, turning his attention back to her hair, "do you not remember me telling you?"

Shaking her head in a minute movement, she shrugged lightly. "I must've still been out of it when we had that conversation."

"Yeah," he agreed vaguely, taking a hair tie from the vanity and tying her hair, "must have been."

Turning to face him, she smiled again, leaning up to join their lips together softly. "I love you, Elijah." She whispered, eyes remaining firmly closed. "I could die any day, and I just, I love you."

"I love you too, Elena." He returned, just as quietly, kissing her again.

"Have we made any headway on what to do with Hayley?" Elena asked curiously, taking the mug of coffee that was passed in her direction with a grateful smile and soft whisper of thanks.

"The child in her womb makes it slightly difficult." Klaus sighed, sitting at the island opposite Elena with his own mug of coffee. "She's still over two months away from giving birth."

"And she's still in the basement?" She queried, sipping her coffee.

Klaus shrugged. "We don't really have anywhere else to keep her." He scoffed, shaking his head slightly. "It'd be easier if we were trying to house a dog, at least dogs can be trained."

Elena rolled her eyes, sipping at her coffee again and ignoring the grin that Klaus sent her way.

"You look much better." He pointed out, raising his mug in a vague toast, smirking as she rolled her eyes again.

"Yeah, that spell of Davina's works wonders." She shrugged slightly, flipping her braid over her shoulder. "Elijah shouldn't've done that again." She muttered, looking at Klaus pointedly.

"I may be a hybrid, but not even I can stop my brother from doing something to help someone he cares about." Swallowing a mouthful of his drink he pursed his lips. "Besides, I didn't know he was doing it until after the spell had already been done."

She scoffed. "You're a stubborn family, no one can take that away from you."

Klaus let out a laugh, caught off guard by Elena's light remark. "Lord help us when that child is born, I'm sure she'll inherit all the worst bits of us."

"Being stubborn isn't always a bad thing." Elena sipped at her drink again. "Why are you so focused on all the bad things the kid could be? I'm pretty sure you're supposed to look forward to the good stuff, not worry about the bad…"

"Because you've had so many children." Klaus snapped, realising the mistake of his words as soon as he'd spoken them. "Elena, I-"

"No," she interrupted, shaking her head, "you're right, I've never had any kids; I wasn't really given much of a chance." She scoffed, drinking the rest of her coffee in a quick movement and slamming her mug down on the counter as she stood up. "Maybe you're right to worry about the bad, she is yours and Hayley's after all."

Stunned by her outburst, Klaus didn't move, just watched Elena's back as she strode from the room, never sparing him a second glance.

Belatedly, he wondered when he had told her about Hayley's theory that the baby was a girl.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

Locking the door behind her, Elena let out a huff of breath, rolling her eyes as she turned to face the woman behind her.

Hayley fixed her features in a stern glare, wondering what sort of ridiculous tactic this was now. "I already told them who I got to help me with the spell, what else do you want?"

"I want to know why you're still alive."

Hayley laughed, shaking her head. "I knew you were thick, but I thought that one was kind of obvious."

Elena tilted her head at the woman in front of her, eyes flicking to her swollen stomach. A soft smile graced her lips when she saw Hayley's shoulders twitch slightly, no doubt wishing that she could cradle the bump that had caught Elena's gaze.

"That doesn't really work for me, Hayley." Elena sighed, walking around behind the wolf, watching her try to crane her head to look around at her, desperate to keep the doppelganger in her field of vision. "You didn't hold up your end of the deal."

"What the hell are you talking about? What deal?" Hayley all but shouted, gasping when Elena grabbed hold of her hair, wrenching her head back.

"No-one is coming to help you, Hayley, no matter how loud you shout. I'm afraid this room is rather soundproof at the moment." Elena hissed, feeling her fangs extend unbidden. She hummed. "That's rather new, perhaps we should give them a go." She giggled, sinking her fangs into Hayley's throat, ignoring the other brunette's scream.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Hayley cried, trying her best to cower away when Elena tore her fangs from her throat, stepping around in front of her as she wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. "You really are crazy!"

Laughing again, Elena licked the blood she collected from her finger, closing her eyes as she enjoyed the taste. "You brought me here, Hayley, and you couldn't follow through on your end of the deal."

Eyes widening, Hayley shook her head, shrinking back into her chair further, desperately looking towards the door. "No, please, I didn't have time! They caught on too fast! I just need another chance, please!"

Rolling her eyes again, Elena placed her hand over Hayley's chest, closing her eyes as she felt the thrum of Hayley's heartbeat under her palm. She sank her hand into the wolf's chest as her fangs tore at her wrist, opening her eyes only to glare at Hayley. "Oh, please, that won't kill me. If it makes you feel any better, I never would have let you live, even if you'd been successful."

"Please," Hayley gasped, "I'm pregnant."

"Oh, trust me, I know. That's why I have to do this now. That baby can't be allowed to live either."

Grasping Hayley's heart in her hand, she tore it out in one smooth motion, watching with a small smile as the wolf collapsed forward, a soft gasp escaping her.

Dropping her heart on the floor, she grimaced, wiping the blood from her hand and wrist on the wolf's clothes before straightening back up and unlocking the basement door, ghosting out of there without sparing the dead woman so much as a glance.

"Hey." Elijah smiled, looking up from the papers he was studying as Elena entered his office, locking the door behind her. He raised an eyebrow at the sound of the lock clicking, straightening the documents in front of him and sitting up straight. "What can I do for you?"

"I just wanted a little privacy…" Elena smiled, striding over to his desk and turning his chair so he was facing her as she straddled his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"I gather you don't want privacy just for a conversation…" Elijah's hands easily dropped to her waist, smiling into their kiss as Elena joined their lips with some force.

She gigged as she pulled her lips away from his, trailing a path down to his throat and lingering there as the veins under her eyes darkened. "I was thinking something a little different."
