Chapter 2: Something pending

Sally almost choked as she suddenly swallowed her cookie and began to cough upon hearing that name.

-Oh! Mrs. Carrera, are you okay? - Camille worried, quickly pouring a glass of water from the bottle in the corner of the lobby. Once it was full, she handed it to her boss.

The woman nodded, and when she was able to calm down, she spoke again.

-I'm fine, thank you very much. - She drank some water, swallowed, and continued. -Did you say Francesco Bernoulli? - She asked.

-Yes, ma'am, that's what I said. - the girl replied.

-Wow, what is he coming to do here? Lightning will surely be "very happy" when I give him the news...- Sally smiled, obviously she said that sarcastically.

The other girl didn't understand much, she was completely ignorant of many things that happened around the town and outside of it, and she knew little or nothing about racing cars. She had come from other places to work there. So she looked at her boss questioningly, but even so, she didn't ask anything about the visit of the recently named character.

-Do you want me to send to prepare the luxury room at the Wheel Well Motel? – Camille asked.

-No, don't worry, I'll take care of that myself, go rest, thank you very much for your work. - Sally nodded her head in a positive gesture, she was satisfied because her assistant was very efficient, she was young but very hard-working.

-Then I'm leaving, have a nice day Mrs. Carrera. Say goodbye to little Lance for me, please. -

-Sure, thank you very much, rest well. - The woman smiles at her and waves goodbye as the girl leaves the lobby.

Being more alone and calm, Sally sighs, smiling and laughing for some strange reason.

-I can't believe it... The last time those two saw each other it was chaos. Why here? There are more beautiful and bigger places to visit. Maybe the only person who can give a good competition to Francesco, is my Stickers... –

While was thinking out loud, another person came into the place, an older woman than Sally, with dark skin, dark hair that was half-curled at the tips, beautiful light eyes, wearing a restaurant waitress's uniform and vintage-style makeup on her eyes and lips, all in aqua blue tones.

-Good morning, dear, how are you this morning? – the newcomer greeted with a huge smile. Her tone of voice was strong and deep, but very lively and friendly.

-Good morning Flo, everything is fine, I just started, I'll take advantage of checking the in and out of the passengers who came on the Camille turn, then I have to call to the W.W Motel to prepare the luxury suite. A lot of work... As always. – The youngest sighed and smiled again. -What about you? -

-I'm fine, there's movement around the cafe, but I gave myself a free moment to come, the good thing is that I have help. – She goes behind the counter to go straight to the crib. – Because I don't like to stop coming to greet this cutie. – She leans down to give a kiss on the forehead of Lance, who groaned in his sleep. – Beautiful, every day he is more beautiful. – Flo whispers, slowly removing with the thumb of her right hand, the lipstick mark that she left on the baby. – If you need me to take care of him this afternoon, I have no problem.

Sally giggles a little seeing the actions of her friend, both the latter and all her closest ones in the town, loved Lance very much. That relieved her quite a bit.

-Thanks, I... – She thought of something. – Could you stay with him for a few minutes? I'll go see the room at the Motel personally, it won't take me long, I promise. – She asked almost in a plea.

-Sure girl, go calmly. – Flo looked at her to answer. –But the Luxury Suite? Tell me, who is the guest of honor? -

-I really appreciate it, I'll tell you later, I promise, I'll be right back. - Sally grabbed her purse, put a few things in it, and hurried out of the Cozy Cone.

-Two promises in a row, I hope you don't leave me hanging after that! - She hoped Sally had heard her before she took off like a bullet. - Um... I wonder who's coming? - The older woman realized late in the day who it could be, just when her friend had left the place she was going to mention a name. But obviously she would ask her later.

Outside the roar of the baby blue Porsche Carrera was loud, Sally quickly drives the road to the Motel at that time there was not too much traffic, so she could get a shorter time.

Already at the site, she parked near the main entrance, when she got out of her car she took her cell phone out of her bag, she had all the desire to call Lightning and tell him about Francesco's arrival, but soon something inside made her regret it.

She sighed, with a slightly strange expression, arched an eyebrow and twisted her mouth, without dialing anything she waited for the device to automatically lock and returned it to where it had been before.

She then walked into the Motel, passing through those large double doors that stood out quite a bit and let the tables outside be seen that were adorned for visitors who enjoyed an outdoor café.

There were a lot of people having breakfast at that time, Sally greeted each one cordially, wishing them a "Good morning" and a smile. Luckily she heard no complaints from the passengers.

Inside, from one of the drawers of the reception desk, she took out a small red velvet box, in which she kept the keys to the Luxury Suite. Taking it with her, she quickly took the elevator to the fifth floor. When the doors opened on the designated floor, she walked to the end of the crimson-red carpeted hallway, with pictures of important people on the walls, all signed with their respective autographs. It was as if that place was waiting for a movie star.

With the key already in the keyhole, turning it a couple of times she managed to open that beautiful varnished door, specially carved in fine wood.

She had not taken a single step inside when the glow of the windows greeted her as if in a small welcome. The curtains were open, from there she could see the entire Route 66 and the entrance to Radiator Springs.

Sally really felt happy and proud of that place, which from that distance seemed to have escaped from a dream.

-It's been a long time since I visited this room... Last time I used it with Stickers... - She whispered that last phrase, bringing a hand to her mouth, hiding a smile full of mischief and something was noticeable about the blush on her face.

She took large steps from the small living room and turned to another door to look at the wide double bed in the middle of the master bedroom, it was covered with clean, deep red blankets, it looked very passionate.

At that moment Sally had many fantasies, she didn't even know how the image of the Italian man there came to her mind. Remembering having looked many times beyond his lower back, first as an unconditional fan...

For some reason she had a fleeting moment of wanting to get on her back in bed to "play" a little while she fantasized.

But no...

Although...

She had to admit that before Lightning she had always been drawn to Francesco's "Open-Wheels" and some other illusion ran through her whole body like an exciting tingling sensation.

Why? Why should she think about that when she had a wonderful man at her side? A beautiful son, a happy family. Why should she feel that she had something left pending? Yes, everything... was perfect.

Sally shook her head, stayed there for two seconds and soon moved to check that nothing was out of place. Finally she got out of there, she needed air.

Her thoughts were taking her too far...

And that was scaring her a little.
