"You've been fairly lax today," Laura spoke from Spencer's bedroom door, "I know something is wrong." Laura's motherly intuition only ever got stronger the more years she was a mother. Spencer slipped on her uniform and threw her adopted mother a wary smile.
"You're not wrong," Spencer says with humor in her voice, "Though, I don't know what to even say about it." Spencer mused.
Laura's face softened, "Clint told me."
Spencer rolled her eyes, "Of course he did," Spencer was only mildly annoyed with Clint but she knew it was only out of concern for her, "Old man gossips worse than Tony." Spencer muttered with a light snort as she sheathed her blades against her back. Laura watched her for a few seconds before saying.
"You have feelings for him."
Spencer's heart stuttered and her movements froze. Her mind felt as if it had gone blank for a spilt second before three words popped into her head—Laura was right. Spencer bit the inside of her cheek as she contemplated this new revelation without much surprise. Spencer looked up at her adopted mother with a conflicted look, "How?"
Laura smiles in a mysterious way, "These things tend to happen without much reason or explanation." Laura quietly told her.
Spencer's eyes saddened greatly and she whispered, "He's the enemy."
Laura nodded in understanding, "Maybe not for long." She reassured her oldest.
It wasn't long until Steve was calling for her to hurry along. Laura gave her a tight hug and whispered reassurances into her ear—Clint was looking mighty suspicious but one look from his wife and it was enough to silence the bow-man. It was just Steve, Nat, Clint, and Spencer going to Seoul, Korea while Tony was going to the HUD to work his magic. Her Godfather had plans that included Banner, so, everyone had their missions and was ready to commence yet another war.
It didn't take long to reach Seoul and this time, there were decent snakes. Laura was seriously a godsend! "Are you sure you're ready to do this?" Steve asked the young assassin as she munched away on Doritos.
Spencer pinned Steve with a serious look, "I don't have any other choice, do I?" She asked with a shrug, "If they are that blinded by their hatred for Tony…and continue to pose a threat to our world then I won't hesitate to bring them down any more." Spencer spoke in a grim voice that Steve was surprised to hear.
Steve's heart tightened because he knew her feelings, quite well actually. He hugged her tightly before Clint dropped them off two minutes from Helen Cho's lab. Steve and Spencer exchanged glances. Spencer gave a light smirk, "You know I got your back, brother." Spencer reassured him.
"I never doubted you." Steve told her honestly.
Both superheroes advanced onward ready to face a legion of robots but came to find the lab deserted and littered with bodies. It seemed something went awry considering Helen's team had been slaughtered. "Spencer," Steve called as he leaned over Helen's body—she was badly hurt but was lucky to be alive.
Helen was breathing heavily through her pain but managed to tell them, "He's uploading himself into the body."
"Where?" Steve asked.
Spencer began looking for supplies to help her but Helen spoke again with more urgency, "The real power is inside the Cradle," Helen told him, "The gem, its power is uncontainable," She exhaled painfully and continued, "You can't just blow it up." Spencer rushed over with medical supplies and crouched down beside Helen.
"You have to get the Cradle to Stark," Helen told Steve before turning to Spencer, "Go, both of you, I can do this myself." She ordered firmly which surprised Spencer. Helen was always shy and timid but this was a new side Spencer never saw from her.
Spencer and Steve rushed off as Nat and Clint advised them of a truck from Helen's lab heading out of the city. Steve and Spencer proceeded to rush up a fire escape onto the roof of the lab that overlooked the freeway. They were quick to run onto the freeway and towards where the truck was about to come under an underpass. Steve and Spencer didn't hesitate to jump over the bridge and land onto the truck—Steve didn't stick his landing and ended up rolling towards the back of the truck.
Spencer had deployed her hoverboard and was able to stick her landing. She raced towards her best friend and managed to grab his hand before he rolled off the truck entirely. Before she could taunt her friend, a blast came from inside the truck. Spencer jolted back but in the process let go of Steve's hand but luckily, Steve had grabbed onto the edge of the door as it flew to the side, kicked off the side of truck, but was met with another blast.
He fell down but the metal door protected him from meeting the ground.
"He's definitely not happy," Spencer commented as she poked her head into the truck.
"Let's try and keep him that way!" Steve ordered.
"You guys aren't a match for him." Clint reminded.
"Geez, what confidence," Spencer remarked sarcastically as Ultron tried to blast her head off.
"Yeah, thanks, Barton." Steve replied with just as much sarcasm.
"Steve, should I stop the driver?" Spencer asked as Steve tried to kick off the side of the truck again to try to get into the back of the truck.
"No, too much can go wrong." Steve answered back before Ultron blasted him off the back of the truck entirely and into someone's windshield. Ultron emerged as Steve jumped off the shiny BMW onto a garbage truck and used his weight to throw himself back onto the truck alongside Spencer.
"You know what's in that cradle?" Ultron asked causally before shooting at them but Spencer was quick to deflect it with her energy shield, "The power to make real change and that terrifies the both of you."
Steve swung his shield, "I wouldn't call it a comfort."
There was a rapid trade of blows from the trio—Steve throwing his shield, it bouncing off, Spencer absorbing Ultron's blows and Ultron getting extremely agitated. "Stop!" Ultron growled as Steve's shield got stuck inside Ultron's chest. He grabbed it and threw it carelessly away. "Shit!" Spencer had become momentarily distracted at the sight of Steve's shield being thrown away and it was almost instinct to go after it. Ultron saw his opening and struck both Spencer and Steve. Spencer was thrown off while Steve was hit with one of Ultron's canons. Spencer was saved by her hoverboard and Steve managed to not fall off the truck by grabbing onto the hood. Clint was sending out Nat to help out the battle as Spencer and Steve tried to overpower or overwhelm Ultron.
It seemed to be working because Ultron looked mighty annoyed with them. Steve and Spencer worked in sync as they attempted to overwhelm Ultron until they came to a point where Ultron had Steve on the edge of the truck with his hand wrapped around Steve's neck. Spencer halted in her movements as Ultron mocked her.
Distracted, Ultron didn't see Nat riding up on the side of the truck with Steve's shield in her hands. She threw it up to Steve who caught it and slammed Ultron with it. There was another drawn out fight with Ultron—Steve and Spencer working more cautiously against Ultron as Nat attempted to catch up to the truck. Clint was drawing out the guards in order to get Nat an opening to the Cradle.
Spencer continues to prod and poke Ultron as Steve took him on head-on. The driver jerks the truck and sends Spencer stumbling over her feet and over the edge of the truck. Steve managed to keep his footing as Ultron slams into him sending both of them into a bus full of bystanders. Spencer huffs and kicks off the truck, crashes through the window of the bus, and lands just in time to see Ultron are shot blazing towards her.
Spencer throws up a shield and watches as his shot was absorbed through shield. "I'm going in, Cap can you keep him busy?" Nat says through the intercom.
"What do you think I've been doing?" Steve demands hotly.
Ultron pins Steve but Spencer is quick to jump in and take a blow to her stomach—luckily she had a thin layer of energy protecting her body and she was able to soften the blow. Spencer grunts and quickly strikes multiple jabs at Ultron to back him up and away from Steve. Ultron tries to strike her again but is throw aside by a silver blur—Pietro.
Ultron gathers his wit and turns towards Spencer and Steve but is cut off by the bars of the bus bending over and halting his actions—Wanda. Wanda is behind Ultron and Ultron almost looks pained as he says, "Please, don't do this." He says this to Wanda. Spencer's eyes flickered between the twins' and Ultron and she wonders what happened in that lab.
Wanda glares at him angrily, "What choice do we have?" Wanda demands.
Ultron turns around so quickly and directs a laser beams canon towards Pietro and Spencer but Pietro is quick to grab Spencer around her waist and get them out of harms way. Spencer's head spins roughly as she hears Steve call out of her name in worry. "I'm okay!" Spencer calls out and detaches herself from Pietro.
Ultron takes this moment to flee.
Her heart is stammering crazily in her chest as Steve runs towards the entrance of the train and it doesn't take Spencer long to follow behind him. "We lost him!" Steve shouted into the intercom as they dodged and jumped over innocent bystanders, "He's headed your way!"
Steve and Spencer reach the engine room and find the conductor dead. "Shit!" Steve curses under his breath as Spencer eyes the end of the train tracks with worry.
"Language," Spencer manages to mumble before nudging Steve, "What are we going to do about that?" Spencer asks with a frown. Steve follows her gaze and groans.
"Hold on!" Spencer snaps as the trains goes off the tracks and shakes the entire train to the sides wildly. Steve and Spencer steady themselves as they attempt to figure out how to stop a train going full speed.
"Cap," Clint's voice sounds over the intercom, "Spencer, do you have eyes on Nat?" Spencer's spine crawls and she quickly looks out the windows for any visual of Nat.
"If you have the package, get it to Stark!" Cap orders loudly, "Go!"
"Do you have eyes on Nat?" Clint repeats with some edge.
"Go!" Steve snaps.
"But Nat?" Spencer demands with concern.
"You know Nat can handle herself, Spence," Steve gently grasps her hand, "Nat will be fine, okay?" Steve reassures the young assassin.
Spencer takes a few seconds before nodding in agreement before Steve's eyes move over behind her, "Civilians are in our path," Steve spoke firmly trying to keep calm in a shitty situation. Spencer turns around and finds Pietro and Wanda standing there with concern looks and it doesn't take long for Pietro to realize what Steve is asking for.
Pietro briefly looks at Spencer before he speeds off leaving Wanda on her own.
"Can you stop this train?" Steve asks Wanda.
Wanda looks unsure for a few seconds but a look of determination overcomes her face before she nods, "Yes." With Pietro getting civilians out of harms way and Wanda using her powers to stop the train, the end result was only one casualty and that being the conductor. Spencer and Steve made sure everyone was being helped as others helped those on the train get off and get the required help they needed.
Spencer followed Steve as he walked up to Pietro and Wanda. "I just need a minute," Pietro mutters to his concern sister. He's bent over, panting, and looking like he may have overexerted himself too much.
"I'm very tempted not to give you one," Steve speaks earning a smack on the arm from a glaring Spencer.
Wanda ignores Steve's words and demands, "The Cradle, did you get it?"
"Stark will take care of it," Steve reassures Wanda.
Wanda's eyes grew large with slight panic, "No, he won't," She says softly.
"You don't know what you're talking about," Steve frowns at her though he keeps his voice respectful, "Stark's not crazy."
"He will do anything to make things right," Wanda tells him seriously, "And you all know it." Wanda briefly glances at Spencer before looking back to Steve. Steve glances at Spencer and a knowing look passes between them.
"Stark, come in," Steve speaks into the intercom, "Stark?" Steve repeats as Pietro heaves himself on his feet. Spencer looks down and notices the band of her hoverboard is gone; she holds out her hand and waits for the board to come to her. "Anyone on comms?" Steve asks after no response. Spencer's hoverboard smacks into the palm of her hands lightly and she quickly gets it to transform back into the wrist band form.
"Ultron can't tell the difference between saving the world and destroying it," Wanda spoke carefully as Steve and Spencer look at her, "Where do you think he gets that?" She questions sending a nasty feeling in Spencer's stomach.
"He wouldn't…" Steve says to her.
But he's interrupted by Spencer, "He would."
Steve looks over at her and sees the grim expression on her young face, "I know Tony and I know the guilt and fear he carries inside his heart," Spencer murmurs, "I love Tony but…Wanda's right. Tony will do anything to make things right."
Steve heaves a sigh, "Okay."
Steve and Spencer managed to get Maria to send a Quinjet after them in Seoul. It wouldn't take long to get back to Stark Towers; Spencer just hoped it would be in time. It was strange being stuck in a jet with the former test subjects she knew during her time in captivity. "Strucker never told us much about you," Wanda spoke up quietly.
Spencer looks up and sees Wanda staring off into space while Pietro is watching Steve tend to Spencer's gashes, "I've always wondered why," Wanda muses, "Even after we succeeded in the experiments, he rarely spoke about you and any files he had on you had been wiped away. We thought perhaps you had died or maybe you were sent else where,"
Wanda looks over at Spencer, "But you were rescued."
Spencer nods, "My father, Phil Coulson, and my Godfather Nick Fury rescued me."
"We didn't know Strucker kept hostages," Wanda mumbled, "He always took those willing but never against their will—that man was charming when need be," Spencer snorted and muttered amen in agreement, "I find it incredibly lucky that we managed to find you again."
"Really?" Spencer quirks an eyebrow, "Even though I was with the enemy?"
Wanda nods, "Of course, out of the hundreds of subjects Strucker had; us three were the only ones who made it," Wanda peers at Spencer with a warm look, "Like it or not, we're bonded because of that. It's one of the reasons why we didn't want to hurt you—you were already put through the worst torture imaginable and though we went through it willingly, you didn't."
Spencer remained silent—processing Wanda's words.
"Strucker said you had advanced healing abilities," Pietro spoke directly to Spencer; his eyes smoldering, "But you were shot and did not heal. Even now, your wounds are being tended to, why?" He asked.
Steve sent Pietro a firm glare, "That's none of your concern."
"It's a long story," Spencer mutters as Steve gives her an exasperated look, "But about a year or so ago, I lost the ability to heal."
Wanda and Pietro looked at each other with shock, "How?" Wanda questioned.
Spencer shrugged, "I have no clue…" Spencer shamefully looks away from Wanda and Pietro.
"How did you heal from you gunshot wound?" Pietro asks.
"The Cradle." Spencer shrugs.
"How strange," Wanda murmurs looking a bit concern, "And your other abilities?"
"Normal as usual," Spencer responds much to Steve's annoyance, "Nothing seems out of normal." Wanda looks perplexed about this and a bit worried—Pietro just kept looking at her with interest. "Um, why do you keep staring at me?" Spencer asks with some annoyance.
Pietro smirks, "I can't admire your lovely face, princezná?"
Spencer's cheeks reddened, Steve spits out his water, and Wanda pins Pietro with a look that reads seriously, you're doing this now? "Is he flirting with you?" Steve demands loudly making Spencer cringe. Steve was now in protective brother mode right now. "You need to stop," Steve growls while Pietro continues to smirk.
"Why should I stop?" Pietro muses.
"Pietro," Wanda sighs.
"Because that's my little sister and I'll kick your ass!" Steve blurts out aggressively, "Spencer doesn't need some guy messing with her head!"
"This is embarrassing," Spencer whispers.
"I am not messing with her head," Pietro thickly states with a frown, "I—"
"Pietro, let's save this for another day, eh?" Wanda grasps her older brother's arm and tugs him down into his seat, "Another day that doesn't include stopping the end of the world." Wanda adds with a smirk.
Pietro huffs, "Whatever."
"By the way," Spencer looks up at Steve, "Watch your mouth before I wash it out with soap." Spencer playfully scowls at her best friend. Steve gives her a no-nonsense look before settling back down in his seat. Steve looked pretty annoyed but Spencer couldn't lie and say her heart didn't flutter when Pietro complimented her.
Eventually, they arrived at their destination and Steve looked ready to smack the crap out of Tony. Spencer would have to make sure that didn't happen because Steve would probably end up smacking Tony's head clean off. Tony and Bruce were found in the lab and the group overheard Bruce telling Tony, "You have got to upload those schematics in the next three minutes."
"I'm going to say this once," Steve growled with irritation.
"How about none-ce?" Tony remarks sarcastically.
"Tony, seriously?" Spencer gives him a scolding glare.
"Shut it down!" Steve demands heatedly.
"Nope, not gonna happen," Tony remarks.
"You don't know what you're doing!" Steve snaps.
"And you do?" Bruce fires back boldly.
Spencer steps around Steve and pins Bruce with a very terrifying look and though Bruce does feel some fear from that glare; but his anger is flaring at the sight of the woman who got into his head and made him level an entire city, "She's not in your head?" Bruce hisses.
Wanda steps around Steve and states, "I know you're angry," He's always angry, Spencer thinks.
"Oh, we're way past that." Bruce grumbles with fury clear on his face, "I could choke the life out of you and never change a shade." Bruce brutally tells her.
"Whoa, Bruce," Spencer levels him with an equally fierce look, "After everything that's happened—"
"It's nothing compared to what's coming!" Tony cut her off with frustration and anger.
Wanda is quick to cut Tony off, "You don't know what's in there!"
"This isn't a game, Tony!" Steve resonates.
Spencer and Pietro look at each other—for some reason and Pietro rolls his eyes before zipping around and disconnecting the cords from the Cradle. Everyone is silenced—Spencer snorts in amusement as Pietro sarcastically says, "No, no, go on." He drops the last power cord on the ground. "You were saying?"
A gunshot is heard and suddenly Pietro is falling down through the glass floor. "Pietro!" Wanda screams.
Clint's voice is heard, "What? You didn't see that coming?" Clint mocks Pietro with a smirk.
"Clint, dude, seriously?" Spencer glares at her adopted father.
Clint rolls his eyes, "He got us both shot."
"I'm telling Laura!" Spencer hisses.
Clint's eyes widen, "What did I do now!?"
There was sudden chaos erupting now. Steve was unleashing his shield, Tony was in his suit, Bruce had Wanda by the neck, and Spencer was left dumb-founded. "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Spencer shouted loudly but was ignored as Tony and Steve began fighting. Wanda used her powers to throw Bruce back and holy shit, it was a shit-storm.
"I said enough!" Spencer's voice shook the entire building—the energy in her voice sent the lights to flicker and a layer of electricity to snap at her friends. All actions halted as everyone looked at Spencer with wide eyes.
Suddenly, Thor crashes through the windows and flies onto the Cradle. "Thor?" Spencer calls with confusion as Thor throws up his hammers and begins to gather electricity. Spencer's body quivers and shakes as the electricity inside her body was being sucked out. Spencer fell to her knees and cried out.
"Spencer!" She heard her name being called out.
Spencer felt as if her soul was being ripped out of her body, "You asshole!" Spencer screamed at Thor.
Thor finally released the electricity down into the Cradle. Everyone watched with warped attention as the Cradle suddenly exploded causing Thor to be thrown back and into the ceiling. Spencer watched as the red and gold body of this…thing jumped out of the Cradle. This thing was obviously male and he had blue eyes which were wide and looking at everyone's face carefully. They settled on Thor and for some reason, he lunged at Thor.
Thor was quick to grab onto this thing and throw him through the lab windows with great force. Steve was quick to follow but Thor stopped him. "You okay?" Bruce helped her up.
"Y-Yeah," Spencer muttered feeling light-headed, "A little light-headed but shush, let's see what's going to happen." Spencer patted Bruce's shoulder to silence him. Everyone watched as this body or new person stared longingly out the window of Stark tower and into the city. Bruce helped Spencer wobbled down into the living room as the others did so too.
Pietro joined Wanda's side but not before casting a worrisome look towards Spencer. This new body wrapped his red and gold body in a grey suit. Thor set down his hammer as this new body came towards everyone, "I am sorry," He apologized for sounding…like Jarvis, "That was odd." He looks at Thor, "Thank you." He adds before looking at the cape that Thor has and adds one to his new body.
Spencer chuckles faintly.
"Thor, you helped create this?" Steve questions.
"I've had a vision," Thor explains to the group, "A whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life, and at its center is that," Thor points at the glowing gem in this new person's forehead.
"What? The gem?" Bruce asks confused.
"It's the Mind Stone," Thor explains further, "It's one of the six Infinity Stones—the greatest power in the universe, unparalleled in its destructive capabilities."
"Then why would you-?" Steve began to chastise Thor but was cut off by the God of Thunder.
"Because Stark is right."
"Oh, god, it's definitely the end times." Bruce groans.
"The Avengers cannot defeat Ultron," Thor announces calmly.
"Not alone." The thing with this Mind Stone speaks walking forward.
"Why does he sound like Jarvis?" Spencer asks Tony with wide eyes.
"We reconfigured Jarvis's matrix to create something new," Tony walked closer to…Jarvis? Vision? Spencer was really confused about what to call this thing? No, that was so rude. Person? Was he even a person?
"I think I've had my fill of new," Steve mutters.
Vision walks towards Steve, "You think I'm a child of Ultron?" The question is directed at Steve.
"You're not?" Steve counters.
Vision shakes his head, "I'm not Ultron," He states clearly, "I am not Jarvis," He also adds in but curiously says, "I am….I am." Which only confuses Spencer more.
"I looked in your head," Wanda steps out with a fierce look, "And saw annihilation."
"Look again," Vision offers.
Clint scoffs from where he stands, "Her seal of approval means jack to me."
"Their powers, the horrors in our heads, Ultron himself, they all came from the Mind Stone," Thor speaks up confidently, "Even Spencer's powers came from that stone and they're nothing compared to what it can unleash."
Spencer perked up at the sound of her name and looked at the Gem with wide eyes, "But with it on our side—" Thor was cut off by Steve.
"Is it?" Steve demanded before looking at Vision, "Are you on our side?"
Vision looked conflicted, "I don't think it's that simple," He uttered.
Clint rolled his eyes, "Well, it better get real simple real soon." Spencer threw a small ball of electrical currents at him and Clint winced and glared at her, "I'm telling your mother!" Spencer just rolled her eyes in response.
"I am on the side of life," Vision firmly states, "Ultron isn't. He will end it all."
"What's he waiting for?" Tony asks roughly.
"You." Vision muses.
"Where?" Bruce questions.
"Sokovia," Clint answers with a sigh, "He's got Nat there, too."
Spencer feels the tension in the room—everyone was incredibly wary of Vision unsure whether to believe his words or not. Bruce steps towards Vision, "If we're wrong about you if you're the monster that Ultron made you out to be…"
Vision doesn't back down though not in an aggressive or defiant manner, "What will you do?" Vision questions with genuine curiosity.
But Bruce doesn't answer because he has no answer.
Vision brushes by Bruce, "I don't want to kill Ultron," He admits truthfully, "He's unique and he's in pain but that pain will roll over the Earth. So, he must be destroyed." Vision concluded with great sadness in his voice. "Every form he's built every trace of his presence on the net. We have to act now."
Vision turns to everyone, "And not one of us can do it without the others." He looks at every face in the room and looks down at his hands, "Maybe I am a monster, I don't think I'd know if I were one…I'm not what you are and not what you intended, so there may be no way to make you trust me," Vision turns around and offers Mjölnir to Thor, "But we need to go."
Everyone is stunned into silence as Vision walks out of the room—even Thor is stunned by what just happened. "Well," Spencer speaks out first, "We know what that means." Spencer smirks, "Time to suit up."
The real battle was about to begin.
Sorry about the late update. I feel like I have to apologize but don't have to; considering the holiday's just passed. Regardless, I apologize for the wait. I also apologize for any errors that I have made, I have something that helps me edit my grammatical mistakes but it doesn't seem to get them all. I wanna say also that my updates might not be super often because my back's been super killing me and I can't seem to type for very long before I get major back pains. So, I will try my best to update soon but if I don't, you know why!
Please enjoy and sorry if anything seems choppy, rushed, or awkward!
