Chapter 7: Creator's Gifts
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. It took a while because a friend and I got stumped on how to handle the Fortune Cup Arc but I'm happy to say I finally figured it out. I also wanted to make a special tribute to Kazuki Takahashi the creator of Yugioh and his tragic passing. I hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
We see Roxas sitting by himself in a back room. Looking at him we see a few scuffs and bruises on him. Looking around to make sure the coast was clear.
"Curaga." Casting the healing spell on him, Roxas heals up all his bruises from the crash earlier against his duel with Damon.
Unfortunately for him, there was no way he could do the same for his runner.
He knew there was no way it could survive the wreck.
'I should have listened to Jessie's warning.' Roxas sighs.
"Hey why the long face kid?" A voice asks.
Looking up Roxas saw an adult man with black hair, a mustache, and a leather jacket standing in front of him.
"Hey uh listen I'm not really in a talking mood." Roxas said as the man walked towards him.
"That's fine. I saw your duels. You got heart Roxas." He said.
"Thanks, a lot of good that'll do. Without a working runner, I'm done for." Roxas said.
"Well I can't say it'll be easy, but I believe a duelist is always at his best when things look bad." He said.
"You really like Duel Monsters huh?" Roxas asks.
"I love games, especially Duel Monsters. Which is why I might have something to lift your spirts." Reaching into his pocket he pulls out 3 cards and hands them to him. "They could come in handy in a tight spot."
"Uh thanks uh…" Roxas asks wondering his name.
"Call me Kazuki." He smiles. "Have a look at them."
Turning the cards over, Roxas' eyes widen in disbelief. "Whoa hey Kazu—"
When he looks back up Roxas saw Kazuki was gone.
Confused Roxas looked around for any sign of him but there was none.
"He's gone?" Roxas said wondering what he just saw.
Suddenly the door opens and Roxas heard a gasp.
"Roxas." Turning around he saw Tifa running over to him.
"You're, okay? But the crash?" Tifa asks.
"What can I say? I'm a fast healer." Roxas shrugs when she tried to punch his shoulder but Roxas blocked it. "What the heck?"
"That was for making me worry. I thought you were really hurt." Tifa said concerned.
"Sorry I didn't know you would be that worried about me." Roxas said.
"Why wouldn't we be?" Tifa asks.
"So how bad is the runner?" Roxas asks.
"Sorry Roxas but that thing was totaled. Your Sector Security runner is toast." Tifa said making him sigh.
"I guess that means I forfeit. Meaning we did all this for nothing." Roxas said.
"Roxas it wasn't for nothing." Tifa said.
"Tifa I'm flattered that you, Jessie and I got close because of this but how am I supposed to help Yusei if I can't beat Gogo and I can't duel Gogo without a runner." Roxas said.
"About that." Tifa smirks getting his attention.
Making their way to another room they saw Jessie with two runners. One was his totaled Sector Security runner and the other was a white duel runner with some parts mismatched parts on it. (Google Yugo Duel Runner)
"Whoa Jessie what is this?" Roxas asks.
"Pretty cool right?" She asks standing up. "They had a few old runners in the garage. So I took one and added the parts of your old one that were still in tact and made this."
"I can't believe…this is…this might be one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me." Roxas smiles.
"You like it?" Jessie asks.
"Like it? Jessie I could kiss you." Roxas said.
"Mmm really?" Jessie giggles making him blush.
"I mean uh thank you." Roxas said fixing himself.
"Jessie stop teasing him." Tifa said.
"You're just jealous he didn't offer to kiss you." Jessie smirks making her blush.
"Oh shut up." Tifa said.
Looking at the two girls Roxas couldn't help but smile. They were doing so much for him. Someday he hoped he could return the favor.
Maybe after he found Yusei he could come back to them for a little while.
"Well look who's up." Turning around Roxas saw Gogo walking into the room.
"Yeah takes more than a crash to keep me down." Roxas said making her smirk. "Listen thanks for giving Jessie the parts needed to fix my runner."
"Don't get too sappy. I just wanted a real opponent and I didn't want to miss out on that because of a busted runner. This crowd wants a match so I intend to give it to them." Gogo said.
"Then I guess our match is still on?" Roxas asks hopeful.
Blowing a bubble, Gogo pops it in her mouth.
"You bet it is. Hope you're healed enough to bring it." Gogo said.
"Just be ready to hold up your end of the deal if I win." Roxas said making her smirk amused.
"Assuming you can win." Gogo said walking out.
Turning to Tifa and Jessie, Roxas looked at them and smiled.
"Well? What are we waiting for? I got a match to win. Let's get ready." Roxas declared making them smile.
While Jessie was hard at work on his runner, Tifa helped Roxas go over his deck one last time.
Soon it was time for the final match, as the crowd was gathering for the final match a figure walked in.
In the back of the arena, we see Mulan wearing a red and white jacket with gold dragons on it, black pants and sunglasses over her eyes. (Google Ralph Breaks the internet Mulan)
As she looked around she suddenly got a message.
"Sir?" She answered. "Yes I'm in and the final match is about to start."
"Good and you can confirm that you've seen the competitor before?" A male voice asks.
As Jessie and Tifa made their way to the stands, they were in the front row eager to see how it goes.
"So is the new runner all finished?" Tifa asks.
"Pretty much although Roxas said something about adding one more personal touch." Jessie said.
"Personal touch?" Tifa said interested.
"And now here she is folks! The Speed Queen of the Underground! You know her you love her, it's Gogo Tomago!" The announcer said as Gogo raced out on her yellow duel runner.
As smoke emerged Gogo shot out of it causing the crowd to go wild.
"And tonight's challenger you saw him fight his way up through the first 2 and now he's earned the right to take on our champ! It's Roxas!" The announcer said.
As Roxas revved his runner he shot out of the pits and along the sides of his new runner we see Oathkeeper and Oblivion hanging off its sides.
"Whoa what are those?" Jessie asks.
"I don't know…but I like it." Tifa said.
Seeing Roxas on the track Mulan narrows her eyes.
"It's him sir. He's about to duel." She confirms.
"Good. Now to try to make sure he stays around and doesn't get away again." The voice said hanging up.
Growling Mulan hated the way Sector Security acted around her.
"Oh I'll make sure he doesn't." She said making her way to a seat and activating the tracker.
As Roxas and Gogo took their positions both of them locked eyes.
"Don't think I'm going easy on you just because of your little crash." Gogo said getting his attention.
"You better not because I plan on winning." Roxas said as both revved their engines.
Roxas' new runner definitely had a different feel than his old one, but it seemed more him.
Taking the gum out of her mouth Gogo sticks it to the side of her helmet showing she was serious.
As the countdown started both revved their engines.
"DUEL!" Both said as they took off.
Roxas: 4000 SC: 0
Gogo: 4000 SC: 0
"My turn." Roxas drew." I summon Secret Six Samurai Fuma in Defense mode!" Appearing on his field the purple six samurai appeared and took a knee.
Six Samurai Fuma: 200/1800
"And then I'll place two cards facedown. Your move." Roxas said ending his turn.
"A nice easy start. Too bad for you I duel like I race. With speed." Gogo drew.
Roxas: 4000 SC: 1
Gogo: 4000 SC: 1
"And since my field is empty, I can special summon Speedroid Terrortop to the field." Gogo said summoning a monster that looked like a centipede made of tops.
Speedroid Terrortop: 1200/ 600
"And now that I have him I can summon the tuner monster Speedroid Tri-Eyed Dice!" Appearing on her field a die in the shape of a triangle appeared.
Speedroid Tri-Eyed Dice: 300/ 1500
"And now I'll tune my level 3 Tri-Eyed Dice with my level 3 Terrortop in order to synchro summon the first of my little toys to bring you down Hi Speedroid Kendama!" As a bright light engulfs the field a blue Kendama toy-like monster appeared.
Hi Speedroid Kendama: 2200/ 1600
"She synchro summoned on her first turn?" Jessie said surprised.
"She really does duel fast." Tifa said impressed.
"And once per turn, I can use one of its special abilities. By removing Terrortop from the game you take 500 points of damage!" Gogo said as Kendama glowed firing a beam hitting Roxas directly causing him to cringe.
Roxas: 3500 SC: 1
Gogo: 4000 SC: 1
"And here comes the best part. I still have his attack! Hi Speedroid Kendama attack his Fuma!" Diving in Kendama blasts Fuma to pieces. "And don't think just because your monster was in defense mode that means your life points are safe because my Kendama deals piercing damage!"
Roxas: 3100 SC: 1
Gogo: 4000 SC: 1
"You activated Fuma's ability. When it's destroyed I can summon my Six Samurai Iroh to the field in defense mode!" Roxas said summoning his purple armored warrior.
Six Samurai Iroh: 1700/ 1000
"Finally I'll end my turn with 1 card facedown." Gogo said ending her turn.
"Oh yeah! That's the Speed Queen in action folks! On her first turn she not only summons a powerful monster but she's already dealt some serious damage to Roxas!" The announcer said.
"Yeah you go Gogo!" One fan cheered.
"He may have beaten the first guys but you're in a different league!"
"Well it's pretty clear who the crowd favorite is." Jessie mutters.
"He can still turn it around." Tifa said.
"If you even want a chance at finding your friend you better show me some of those skills you showed earlier." Gogo said.
Hearing this a determined look appeared on Roxas' face.
"Fine by me. My move!" Roxas drew.
Roxas: 3100 SC: 2
Gogo: 4000 SC: 2
"I summon a tuner monster of my own Kagemusha of the Six Samurai!" Roxas said as his tuner Samurai appeared.
Kagemusha: 400/ 1800
"And now I'll tune my level 2 Kagemusha with my level 4 Iroh in order to summon a creature with some real might! I synchro summon Mighty Warrior!" Appearing by Roxas's side was his large giant-fisted warrior.
Mighty Warrior: 2200/ 2000
"And it appears Roxas is striking back with a synchro monster of his own too bad he couldn't have picked a stronger one." The announcer said.
"Looks like both our monsters are tied. You attack me they're both going down." Gogo said.
"Not if I have anything to say about it! Mighty Warrior attack!" Roxas orders as his monster charges in.
As both monsters charged in everyone expected a stalemate.
"Now I activate my Assault Spirits trap by sending a monster with 1000 attack points or less from my hand to the grave and my monster gains its attack points for the turn. So by sending Spirit of the Six Samurai to the grave, my warrior gains 500 attack points for the turn.
Mighty Warrior: 2700
"Wait then that means." Gogo gasps.
"Say goodbye to your Kendama!" Roxas said as Mighty Warrior punches her Hi Speedroid destroying it. "And when my Warrior destroys a monster half of its attack points come out of your lifepoints!"
From the smoke Mighty Warrior charges at Gogo and punches the ground behind her causing her to cringe.
Roxas: 3100 SC: 2
Gogo: 2400 SC: 1
"And with that I'll end my turn." Roxas said passing Gogo. "Looks like it's your turn to catch up.
"Did you see that folks?! Roxas has taken the lead!" The announcer said causing the crowd to cheer.
"Well looks like someone has some fight in him after all. My turn." Gogo drew.
Roxas: 3100 SC: 3
Gogo: 2400 SC: 2
"I play Speedroid Block-N-Roll to the field in defense mode and end my turn." Gogo said summoning a guitar-based monster.
Speedroid Block-N-Roll: 1000/ 1800
"That's it? One monster?" Roxas mutters confused. He was expecting some kind of comeback.
"What's the matter? Scared?" Gogo asks.
"Not a chance." Roxas drew.
Roxas: 3100 SC: 4
Gogo: 4000 SC: 3
"I summon Legendary Six Samurai Mizuho in attack mode!" Roxas said summoning a red samurai warrior.
Legendary Six Samurai Mizuho: 1600/ 1000
'Since her monster is in defense mode Assault Spirit won't be much help.' Roxas thought before figuring out his move. "Mighty Warrior attack her Block-N-Roll!"
Swinging his fist Mighty Warrior destroyed Gogo's monster and thanks to its effect lost half its attack points.
Roxas: 3100 SC: 4
Gogo: 1900 SC: 3
"And now Mizuho attack her directly!" Roxas said as his Samurai lunges forward.
"Not a chance! I activate the effect of my Speedroid Menko! When you attack me directly I can summon it to the field in defense mode! Not only does it stop your attacks but it switches all your monsters to defense mode." Gogo said summoning a menko card monster.
Speedroid Menko: 100/ 2000
Creating a powerful barrier, the attack stops Roxas' Samurai and switches all his monsters to defense mode.
"Did you really think I would make things that easy?" Gogo mocks.
Growling Roxas thought he had her but she surprised him.
Smirking Mulan crossed her arms. "It's when you think you're about to win that you have to be the most careful. Rookie mistake."
"I place one card facedown and end my turn." Roxas said.
"Music to my ears." Gogo drew.
Roxas: 3100 SC: 5
Gogo: 1900 SC: 4
"And now I summon Speedroid Red Eyed Dice!" Gogo said summoning another tuner monster revealing this one as a gold dice with red eyes.
Speedroid Red-Eyed Dice: 100/ 100
"Oh no not another one." Roxas said realizing what was coming.
"That's right. By tuning my level 1 Red Eyed Dice with my level 4 Menko I can summon a monster that always slashes away the competition! Hi Speedroid Chanbara!" Gogo said summoning a monster with two swords riding on a giant sword.
Hi Speedroid Chanbara: 2000/ 1000
"Now show him how we do things!" Gogo said as Chanbara attacked Mizuho first. "And thanks to its special ability Chanbara gains 200 attack points with each battle."
Chanbara: 2200
Flying in Chanbara slices Mizuho in half dealing tons of piercing damage.
Roxas: 1900 SC: 4
Gogo: 1900 SC: 4
"And you the best part is my Chanbara can attack twice. Looks like your Mighty Warrior isn't Mighty enough! And don't forget it's power boost!"
Chanbara: 2400
Turning around Chanbara slashes Mighty Warrior destroying it and Assault Spirits.
Roxas: 1500 SC: 4
Gogo: 1900 SC: 4
"And just like that folks the Speed Queen has passed Roxas and taken the lead once again!" The announcer said as the crowd cheered.
"I activate my trap Call of the Haunted. Now I can summon a Synchro Monster from my graveyard back to the field." Roxas said summoning his Mighty Warrior back.
"Sorry Roxas not happening. I activate my trap Seven tools of the Bandit! I may have to pay 1000 lifepoints but your monster is going back where it came from" Gogo said as Roxas' trap was destroyed along with his warrior.
"How did you?" Roxas starts.
"Did you really think I wasn't paying attention to your earlier duels? Those matches showed me quite a few of your little tricks and as long as you have a monster on your field you're dangerous." Gogo said.
Hearing this Roxas and his team gasped.
"That's why she doesn't challenge anyone right away." Tifa said.
"It's not just her skills that give her an edge. Even if the other duelists beat her she can still see how they battle." Tifa said.
Pausing Roxas remembered some cards no one knew about.
"I'll place one card facedown and end my turn." Gogo said playing a facedown.
Pausing Roxas remembered he had cards no one knew he had.
"These can come in handy in a tight spot."
"You don't know all my tricks Gogo and I'm gonna prove it right now! My turn!" Roxas drew.
Roxas: 1500 SC: 5
Gogo: 900 SC: 5
"First I activate the Speed Spell Angel Baton. Now this card lets me draw two cards as long as I send one to the grave. Next I summon my Six Samurai Zanji to the field in attack mode!" Roxas said summoning his orange armored Samurai.
Six Samurai Zanji: 1800/ 1300
"And since I have a Samurai on my field I can summon Legendary Six Samurai Kizan to the field." Roxas said summoning a samurai in black and gold armor.
Legendary Six Samurai Kizan: 1800/ 500
"What is Roxas doing?" Jessie asks.
"I don't know. I've never seen this strategy before." Tifa said confused.
"Next I activate the Speed Spell Lightwave Tuning! Thanks to its power I can turn one of my light monsters into a tuner monster. Meaning Zanji is now a tuner monster." Roxas said surprising everyone.
"Wait he's making a tuner?" Gogo said surprised as bright light emitted from Zanji.
"Which means I can tune my level 4 Zanji with my level 4 Kizan in order to Synchro Summon Light End Dragon!" Roxas said as a bright light engulfs him and a beautiful white dragon appeared and roared.
Light End Dragon: 2600/ 2100
"Whoa! And I thought Roxas' first dragon was strong! This one is just as crazy but for a whole new reason!" The announcer said.
"He never had that card before." Gogo said.
"And now my dragon's ability activates. My lowering his attack and defense by 500 he can lower your monster's attack by 1500!" Roxas said as Light End shined a bright light on the field.
Light End Dragon: 2100/ 1600
Chanbara: 900/ 1000
"Your monster may get a boost but it won't be enough! Light End Attack with Shining Nova!" Creating a bright light it shined down on Chanbara.
Chanbara: 1100
"Oh no you don't! I activate the trap Half or Nothing and just like its name suggests you can either give me half the damage I'm gonna take or none! Sorry Roxas but it looks like you couldn't beat me this time!" Gogo said.
"Man if only he had a few more points." Tifa groans when Jessie noticed the determined look on his face.
"It's not over yet." She smiles.
"I choose half but that'll still be enough to win this duel." Roxas said confusing everyone as his Dragon continued its attack.
"Uh I think your math is off because even with the attack points you only will deal 500." Gogo corrects.
"Not when I play this. I activate the Speed Spell Silver Contrails! This gives my dragon another 1000 attack points for this turn. So even with your trap there's still enough to take you down!" Roxas declares.
Light End Dragon: 3100
Seeing this everyone even Mulan couldn't believe her eyes.
"I don't believe it." She said amazed.
"He's gonna do it! He's gonna win!" Jessie cheers.
"Get her Roxas!" Tifa cheers.
Eyes widening Gogo couldn't believe it. She thought he had him figured out but he managed to come from behind and pull off a move like this.
'Hmm not bad Roxas.' Gogo smiles.
However just as he was about to land his attack a person from the door rushed in.
"Stop the duel! Stop everything! Sector Security is coming this way!" He yells into the mic getting everyone's attention.
"Wait why is everyone running?" Roxas asks confused.
"Hello? Underground duels? Literally everyone in the audience has a criminal background." Gogo said in an obvious tone. "And if you don't want one yourself you better get going!"
"What about our duel?" Roxas asks.
"Do you want to be arrested?!" Gogo said revving her engine and racing out. "Follow me!"
Looking to the stands Roxas saw Tifa and Jessie as they ran out another way.
Following Gogo, Roxas raced out through the garage but when he pulled out tons of lights flashed on him.
"Seriously?! Ugh I cannot catch a break." Roxas groans seeing a car pulled in front of him.
"Well look who we have here?" Turning around Roxas saw Mulan take off her sunglasses and approach him. "So you found new criminals to hang around with."
"Well I'm impressed Mulan you actually managed to keep him here until we showed up." Slowly stepping out we see a small, effeminate man with face makeup that resembled a clown, white hair and a red coat.
"Why hello there young man. So glad you could stick around." He said walking towards Roxas.
Taking a stance, Roxas was ready to reach for his keyblades.
"Who are you?" Roxas asks.
"Forgive me where are my manners? My name is Lazar forgive the rude interruption but we wanted to make sure we could get you before things got too chaotic." He introduced.
"What are you talking about?" Roxas asks.
"Well you see young man you have a special gift." Lazar said.
"Stop calling me young man. My name is Roxas." He corrects.
"Very well Roxas. I come here bearing excellent news." Walking towards him Lazar holds out an envelope. "Congratulations you've been selected to compete in the Fortune Cup."
"The what?" Roxas said confused.
"Sir you can't be serious. He's a criminal." Mulan said.
"Oh I am very serious. These orders come right from the Director himself so if you don't keep your mouth shut I will have demoted to mall security before the night is over." Lazar threatens.
Slowly stepping back Mulan wanted nothing more than to break that little man.
"Now to answer your question The Fortune Cip is the biggest tournament in all of Neo Domino City. Honestly young man have you been living under a rock?" Lazar chuckles.
"Why would I want to compete in this?" Roxas asks.
"Three reasons." Lazar said counting with each of his fingers. "Reason 1: by competing in this tournament it shows you have the potential to be great and if you win you will have the chance to duel Jack Atlas himself."
'Jack? He's the guy Yusei was after. He might know where he is.' Roxas thought.
"Reason 2: I don't know who you are Roxas but it's clear you're still looking for answers and possibly more. Compete in the cup and the Director might be able to help you with said problems." Lazar said.
"And what's the 3rd one?" Roxas asks.
Smirking Lazar snapped his fingers.
"Hey let me go!" A familiar voice yells.
Eyes widening Roxas saw Sector Security holding Gogo, Jessie and Tifa hostage.
"Tifa! Jessie!" Roxas gasps.
"If you don't say yes, you and your lovely ladies will be arrested and taken to the facility for illegal underground turbo dueling. So Roxas what do you say now?" Lazar asks.
"Roxas don't listen to them!" Jessie said when one grabs her from behind and forced them to the truck.
As Tifa punched one off her two more charged in and grabbed her.
Growling Roxas looked to Lazar.
"Tick tock Roxas this offer is for a limited time only." Lazar smirks waving his last finger back and forth.
"Fine. I'll compete in the Fortune Cup." Roxas said.
"Smart choice." Lazar said giving him the invite. "Release them." He orders as Sector Security let Tifa and Jessie go.
"And as for you miss Speed Queen." Lazar said approaching Gogo.
"What? You gonna throw me in the facility?" She assumes.
"Only if you say no. The Director is very interested in your services." Lazar said showing a second invite to the Fortune Cup.
"Wait what?" Gogo said confused.
"The Director is interested in your abilities and if you say yes this whole night will be forgotten." Lazar said.
"You can do that?" Gogo asks.
"Young lady I can do anything as long as the Director wants it." Lazar said.
Taking the invite, Gogo looks to Roxas.
"I hope to see you both there, the Director wants to make this one a Cup to remember." Lazar said walking back towards Roxas.
"But sir, what if this one tries to run away again?" Mulan asks gesturing to Roxas.
"Well Mulan since you seem so interested in him you can be the one responsible for escorting him to the Kaiba Dome." Lazar said pushing Mulan towards Roxas.
"What?! Lazar, I am an officer of the law. I don't escort criminals I bring them in." Mulan said.
"Well then I guess you'll be stepping outside your comfort zone. If he's not at the Fortune Cup consider yourself fired." Lazar said horrifying her.
Looking at her, Roxas couldn't help but feel bad for him.
"Ta ta." Lazar said before leaving.
As Sector Security drove away, Roxas walked up to Gogo.
"Well so much for our match. Any chance we can continue?" Roxas asks.
"What do you mean? There's no reason to continue." Gogo points out.
"There's not?" Roxas said confused.
"Your monster had 3100 attack points and mine had 1100 even with trap the damage would have been 1000 points and I only had 900 points left." Gogo points out making Roxas, Tifa and Jessie gasp.
"That means Roxas won." Jessie smiles.
"So does that mean you'll help me?" Roxas asks with a smile on his face.
"Yeah I know a guy named Blister. He can help you find anyone. I'll bring you 3 to him tomorrow." Gogo said.
"Uh excuse me. Wherever you're going I'm going to." Mulan said walking over. "My job is on the line so until the Fortune Cup begins you are not leaving my site."
"Oof someone's being a real stick in the mud." Jessie said.
"So Roxas how does it feel to win the Underground Circuit?" Tifa asks.
"Honestly it feels good." Roxas said when they heard a growling noise.
Blushing Roxas put a hand to his stomach making everyone laugh.
"And it seems like victory makes you hungry." Gogo chuckles.
"Come on, let's go get something to eat and then we can head back to the bar and get some rest." Tifa suggests.
"Sounds like a plan." Roxas said.
"Hey Roxas." Gogo calls out. "We'll have a rematch at the Fortune Cup." She grins.
"Bring it." Roxas grins as he, Tifa and Jessie walked away with Mulan right behind them.
He had survived one tournament but now a bigger one was on the way.
