It was a typical depressing day for Ella. They had just left school, and it looked like rain was about to pour down, but she didn't really care if she got wet. At least they weren't home, so instead, she went to her favorite hiding spot in the park.
It was a nice little park that had been newly built, but at the very back of it, there were remnants of the old park, long since abandoned.
They sat down on an old, worn-out bench under a massive oak tree and pulled out their Game Boy Color with their favorite game, Pokemon Crystel. Ella could not help the smile on their face as they slid in the see through cartridge into her teal-colored Game Boy.
They had completed the game a few times already but wanted to do it again. Maybe try to do a nuzlock or a speed run.
She started up the game, and after naming her character and saying the mandatory hello to their in-game mother, she went straight to the professor's lab to pick their starter Pokemon for this round.
She couldn't help but roll her eyes at the annoying redhead pepping into one of the lab windows. Her future rivel she gave a huff and chose to ignore him, this time walking through the lab doors and smirking about the naughty word she would use for his name when the cop NPC would ask for his name later in the game.
Walking over to talk to Professor Elm, he goes into his speech about writing an important scientific paper and how he needs my help for his research and to pick a Pokemon for helping him and blah, blah, blah.
Ella zoned out, ignoring the professor's words and daydreaming about how cool being in the Pokemon world would be, able to leave home and travel by yourself at age 10 with cool monsters to befriend and fight.
She sighed and mumbled out loud I wish I lived in the Pokemon world her attention snapped back through when it was time to pick her starter.
Ella thought about who to pick, her last play-through was with totodile, but the two other times she played, she used cyndaquil.
As she was thinking, a loud bang caused her to jump and lose focus.
She looked up at the sky and saw the storm was getting much worse as it had started lighting.
Ella gulped now, feeling nervous, and felt that maybe she should bite the bullet and go home, this storm looked like it might be dangerous.
As she was grabbing her stuff to run home, she saw a bright flash, and it felt like time slowed down to a crawl as a bolt of lightning came down and struck the Game Boy that was still in her hand.
She felt white hot pain all over her body, and her vision was filled with a rainbow of colors before everything went black.
Ella moaned and whimpered as she was slowly coming to her.
Her body felt super sore, and she was very disoriented.
When she finally opened her eyes, she saw a beautiful, sunny, grassy field.
What the heck, she thought, this is not my park. Where am I?
As Ella went to stand, she wobbled and then fell to the ground. "Ouch," she moaned.
She went to rub her face to try and get rid of her grogginess, and that's when she noticed that something was definitely wrong.
She shot up in a sitting position and started touching her face with both hands; she began to shake and hyperventilate why...why did it feel like she had a snout and whiskers? She stopped touching her face and screamed after seeing her hands. Ella no longer had five fingers, but three fingers that ended in sharp little claws covered in a cream-clored fur.
What's going on Ella gasped. This can't be real she stopped mid-freak out, remembering the lightning strike.
Wait a minute, am I...dead? Is this heaven? Ella touched her snout, aging, then quickly snatched her ...paw away from it.
No way, if this was heaven, she wouldn't be a monster. Ella felt a chill run down her spine. Uh oh, what if it's the other place? Her mom always said that's where she was going for watching anime.
Ella gave her head a hard shack to stop that train of thought. "No, no," she mumbled. "There has to be a reasonable explanation... a dream," her whiskers perked up. Yes, that has to be it, maybe some weird coma dream and that she will wake up any minute now, safe in a hospital bed.
Ella took a deep breath to calm down and started looking herself over. She was covered in purple and cream-colored fur. She had three toes on her hands and feet, which are now paws, and she had a long purple tail that curled at the end.
"Wait a minute," she gasped and started feeling her face.
She now had large round ears and two long buck teeth.
It couldn't be, she gasped. Was she a Rattata now?
As she sat there trying to figure out what to do now, she heard the tall grass rustling behind her. Just as she turned around, a Caterpie busted through the grass, yelling, "RUN RUN FOR YOUR LIFES TRAINERS ARE HERE!"
Ella's ears perked up trainers like in Pokemon trainers?
A thrill shot through her, but then she remembered that she no longer looked human.
She looked like a Pokemon now, and she did not want to be captured.
She heard more rustling coming her way, and she scrambled to hide in the taller grass. Now, in the thick, tall grass, she hears what sounds like a young boy saying Pidgey, I choose you.
Ella peeped out to see a youngster with his Pidgey cornering a Weedle
The Weedle started pleading with the Pidgey, please don't catch me. I have a wife and an egg back home catch one of the others around here he tried to bargain with the bird.
Quite the Pidgey snaped what my trainers wants my trainer gets, and he wants you.
The Pidgey flew full speed at the Weedle, hitting it in a tackle attack and knocking it back. The young boy tossed a Pokeball at the hurt Weedle. "No, don't," the Weedle cried out, but the ball hit him, catching him immediately.
The boy cheered at catching a new Pokemon and praised his Pidgey for fighting so well.
Ella stared in open mouth horror at what she had just seen,
she already knew she did not want to be captured and tamed by some random trainer, but after seeing that Weedle being caught and his beginning to not be caught in a Pokeball, Ella felt sick and started to try and back away from the sean.
Unfortunately for her, not being used to this new body, she tripped over a branch, causing it to snap.
The boy and his Pidgey heads snapped in Ella's direction the youngster smirked.
Come on Pidgey, three more Pokemon around here to catch they started heading towards Ella.
Ella knew she needed to run, but her legs were frozen.
Her mind felt like it was full of bees as she watched the boy and Pidgey approach her.
She failed to realize that a pair of green vines were creeping towards her until the vines grabbed her around her snout and waist and yanked her backward.
Ella tried to flail, But a voice spoke to her in a quiet whisper, "Shhhh, you're ok? Just be quiet till they're gone."
Ella stayed quiet and still while the boy and the Pidgey looked around
after a couple of minutes that felt like hrs, the boy huffed.
Oh well, I guess whatever was here is gone now.
Let's head home, the boy told his pidgey
the pidgey nodded his head and hopped on the boy's shoulder as they walked off, the vines that had been holding Ella let go as soon as the boy was out of sight.
Ella quickly turned around, curious about who had just saved her, and gasped.
She was now face to face with a Chikorita.
