"Super Moves!"
{Television}
"The only limit to our realization of tomorrow is our doubts of today."
- Franklin D. Roosevelt -
Most of those who just heard the announcement were astonished, not anticipating the statement Krim had abruptly made to Mei.
The only individuals unfazed by the revelation were All Might and Power Loader, acting as if they were already expecting that.
"W-What?" Izuku stammers, striving to comprehend the recent unfolding events.
"Oh my gosh, THE Krim Steinbelt wants ME as an apprentice? This is like, the ultimate collab!" An excited Mei comments, eyes sparkling as she was bouncing on her toes.
Krim smiles warmly at the pinkette.
"I appreciate your enthusiasm. We have a critical mission—to stop the Roidmudes from wreaking havoc. And your talent in support equipment can be invaluable for our cause. You have promising growth potential."
Mei gives a funny salute, her eyes twinkling with both humor and determination.
"Sir, yes sir! Prepare yourself, world! The ultimate tech duo is here to save the day!"
"Very well, we indeed have a lot to plan ahead of us. But remember, our primary mission is to stop the Roidmudes and ensure the safety of humanity." The amused scientist reminds her.
"Got it! Safety first, flashy explosions second!"
"Hatsume!" Power Loader scolds her once he hears the last part.
Krim simply chuckles at her enthusiasm.
The Support Course girl looks incredibly excited, her mind already racing with ideas for new inventions and upgrades, as Krim mentally prepares for the whirlwind that is his new apprentice.
"When do we start, Mr. Steinbelt? I've got like a gazillion ideas!"
However, the others suddenly join their conversation, wanting to know what exactly is happening between them.
"Hold on a moment, Professor. This is quite unexpected. What is this sudden business about an apprentice? And why Hatsume Mei, of all people?" David is the first to ask.
"I-I'm so shocked! Hatsume-san, working with Krim Steinbelt? This is incredible, but... how did this happen?" Izuku asks next, eyes wide open in shock.
"Yeah, it's a bit surprising. Hatsume sure is super creative, but this is a whole new level even for her!" Ochako adds with a vigorous nod.
"While this is indeed an honor for Hatsume Mei, I must express my concerns. The fight against Roidmudes is perilous. Are you certain she is prepared for such responsibility?" A wary Tenya chimes in.
"You all must have valid concerns about this. However, Mei's ingenuity in the field of support gear could be crucial in our mission. I believe she can bring fresh perspectives." Krim starts explaining his decision. "It all started back at the meeting we had at my manor, when she decided to approach me."
(Flashback)
Steinbelt Manor - At a private room
After Krim finished talking with David…
"Please… Please make me your apprentice!"
"..."
"..."
Krim simply blinked in confusion as he processed what he had just heard.
"What?"
He wasn't the only one taken back by this request.
'Wow, she really caught him off guard.' All Might notes. 'Interesting. I wonder how Krim will respond?'
"What!? Hatsume! Do you understand the full scope of what you're asking? Fighting the Roidmudes is a dangerous business!" Power Loader asks his student.
Krim stares back at the pink-haired girl with a serious expression.
"Your request is rather sudden. Can you explain why you wish to be my apprentice?"
"Your work is revolutionary! The Drive Driver, the Core Driviars, it's all amazing! You being David Shield's mentor. And there's also how you managed to emulate the powers of the previous Kamen Riders. I want to learn from you so I can build support gear that will change the world!" Mei replies with enthusiasm.
The scientist simply raises an eyebrow at this.
"You do realize that this work involves dangerous missions against Roidmudes, right? It's not just about creating new gadgets."
All Might nods in agreement, sharing the concern of his old friend.
"Yes, it's indeed not just about gadgets and technology. It's a life-risking endeavor, Young Hatsume." Toshinori says gravely.
"Absolutely, but that's the point! My inventions could be the key to defeating them! Plus, under your mentorship, I can hone my skills and create even more amazing tech!" Mei argues.
Krim still wasn't convinced.
"Again, your request is sudden. And I have yet to wonder if you've truly considered what you're asking me. This is serious work, not a hobby." He emphasizes.
At this, Mei's smile slowly fades, being slowly replaced by a more somber expression.
"I know it's not. Your work is groundbreaking, and I've always been passionate about building support gear. But it's not just about that anymore."
The scientist gives her a look.
"Explain."
Mei's smile was now completely gone, her face showing a palpable fear.
"When I learned about the Roidmudes and what they're capable of, I was... scared, truly scared. But that fear is what's driving me now. I can't sit idle knowing I could contribute, even if it's in a small way."
Power Loader softened as he heard those words, visibly moved by her show of vulnerability.
'She's really thought this through. It's not just a youthful whim.' Higari notes.
All Might places a supportive hand on his shoulder.
"Yes, she's acknowledging the risk, which shows a level of maturity I find encouraging." He tells his fellow teacher.
Power Loader simply nods at this.
"So, you're aware of the risks and still wish to proceed?" Krim asks Mei, having a look of understanding now on his face.
"Absolutely. I can't just stand by. I want to help, and with your guidance, I believe I can make something meaningful." Mei answers, determination filling her eyes despite the lingering fear.
Taking a step forward, Higari addresses Krim directly.
"Mr. Steinbelt, if I may. Hatsume is one of my most promising first-year students in the Support Course. Her resolve is genuine, and her skills are undeniable. I can at least vouch for her on that. Please consider taking her as your apprentice."
Mei becomes clearly touched, surprised by her teacher's strong endorsement, her eyes start to well up.
"Sensei... thank you."
"Life-changing decisions aren't made lightly, but sometimes the most meaningful paths reveal themselves in unexpected moments." Toshinori states, nodding in agreement.
Krim pauses, clearly affected by not only Mei's determination but also by Power Loader's endorsement.
"You've given me a lot to think about, Hatsume Mei." He finally says.
Taking a deep breath, Mei's voice tinged with desperation as she says:
"I won't take no for an answer. I have to do this. I need to know that I didn't just stand by when I could have done something."
But her eyes are shining with a mix of relief and renewed determination.
"I won't let any of you down. I need to know that I didn't just sit idly by when I could have done something."
(Flashback ends)
"That's the complete context. Mei's initial enthusiasm, her subsequent fear, her unwavering resolve, and even Power Loader's strong recommendation convinced me that she's the right choice for this mission." Krim finished retelling his fateful talk with Mei. "But let me elaborate further on why this collaboration is so crucial."
"Please, go on, Professor." David says.
"While heroes are the ones fighting on the front lines, the work of support item creators is equally indispensable. Advanced gear can enhance a hero's capabilities, protect them from harm, and even offer new strategic options that can tip the scales in a crucial battle against foes like the Roidmudes. Our technology doesn't just support heroes; it amplifies their heroism."
Izuku nods in understanding at his reasoning.
"That's a perspective the Pro Heroes and the public in general often overlook nowadays. The gear and tech are also an extension of the hero, aren't they?"
His classmates seemed to agree with him as they looked at Mei with a smile.
She smiles back at them, grateful for their understanding.
"Exactly, Izuku. And that leads me to my next point: having more people who understand and can work with my technology could significantly ease the workload. While I have been primarily responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Drive System and other technology, it's still a Herculean task. With Mei on board, not only will we have fresh perspectives, but we'll also have another pair of capable hands contributing to our mission." Krim affirms.
"So, Hatsume-san isn't just fulfilling her dream; she's becoming a vital part of the bigger picture!" Izuku proclaims.
"Wow, that really puts into perspective how important Hatsume's role is going to be." Ochaco says next.
"The strategic importance of support roles in hero society cannot be understated. This collaboration stands as a testament to that." Tenya chimes in with a nod of his head.
Mei was glad for the support she was receiving from the others.
"Thanks, everyone. I understand the weight of the responsibility, and I'm ready to rise to the challenge!"
Krim smirks at her.
"And I have full faith that you will. Shall we get started, Mei?"
"I've never been more ready. Let's get to work!"
With the backstory now fully revealed, capturing Mei's initial enthusiasm, her sobering realization of the risks, her unyielding determination, and her deep appreciation for Power Loader's endorsement, the room is charged with a newfound respect and anticipation.
Krim's explanation adds another layer of understanding to the importance of their collaboration, emphasizing the strategic and logistical benefits that promise to make their partnership groundbreaking.
The creator of the Drive System is looking at Mei with a small, appreciative smile, as his thoughts drift inward.
'Mei's enthusiasm and resolve are uncannily reminiscent of some people very close to my heart. My protégé, David, for instance. He was not just a brilliant scientist but also possessed an indomitable spirit and a knack for innovative thinking. Mei has that same fire, that same relentless drive to bring change, not just in the lab but in the world.'
He sees David smiling, unaware of the older man's internal monologue but pleased with the general atmosphere around them.
'And then there's Rinna.' The creator of the Rider System continues his inner monologue. 'Oh, Rinna, with her irrepressible spirit and her genius for making even the most complex machinery seem like child's play. She approached her work with such joy, such a sense of wonder. Mei has that same spark. She makes the daunting task of invention appear to be nothing less than an exciting adventure.'
Mei is looking funnily at Krim, curious about the thoughtful expression on his face but unaware of his internal thoughts.
'Both David and Rinna became pillars in their fields, their contributions invaluable. I see the same potential in Mei. She is not just stepping into a role; she's joining a legacy of extraordinary people. I believe she will rise to the occasion, and I'm eager to see how she will leave her mark on the world.' Krim concludes.
Applause and nods of agreement fill the room, the air palpable with enthusiasm and anticipation.
But not everybody seemed to be fully happy with the revelation…
'Everyone is so excited for Hatsume, and rightfully so. She's stepping into something incredible. But why does it feel like I'm on the sidelines of something monumental?'
Melissa couldn't help but think that, despite smiling and clapping as her thoughts wandered to something unpleasant.
Her thoughts then drift back to the earlier conversation with Professor Steinbelt.
'I still remember how it felt when he told me that I wasn't fit to become a Kamen Rider. I thought my expertise in support technology and my understanding of hero gear would be enough to make me happy.' Melissa thinks. 'But his words… It sounded as bad as when I first learned that I was Quirkless.'
The blonde girl silently observes Krim from afar. Unaware of Melissa's internal turmoil, he continues to interact with the attendees, his demeanor exuding excitement about the new mentorship he would have with Mei under his wing.
'And now, he's bringing Hatsume into his Kamen Rider projects. Of course, she's brilliant and has a lot to offer, but it stings to think that I'm not considered to have the same potential. What is it that makes her suitable for this and not me? Is it just her enthusiasm, or is there something more that I'm missing?' The young Shield continues her inner monologue.
"This is going to be revolutionary! I can't wait to see the technology that comes out of this mentorship!" Izuku eagerly says to Mei, getting a grin from his Support Course's friend.
Forcing a smile, yet internally grappling with her feelings, Melissa becomes unusually quiet as she keeps hearing everyone talk. Remarkably, no one seems to notice her sudden change in demeanor.
"Yes, it's going to be amazing. Truly groundbreaking." She says to Mei, getting a proud thumbs up from the pinkette.
Toshinori catches Melissa's eye, unaware of her internal conflict but sensing a subdued energy.
"Is everything alright, Melissa?"
She pauses, debating whether to open up, but then deciding against it.
"Yes, everything's fine. I'm just excited to see where all this leads, Uncle Might."
He nods at this.
"As are we all. This is the beginning of a new chapter, and everyone here will play a role in it, in one way or another."
'Everyone but me.' Melissa thinks, downcast.
While the room remains filled with a sense of excitement and optimism for the future, Melissa's conflicted feelings add a layer of complexity to the moment. Her internal struggle remains her own for now, a poignant reminder that monumental changes often bring a mix of emotions, even for those who stand to benefit from them. The fact that no one seems to notice her sudden quietness adds an extra layer of poignancy to her internal conflict.

Drive 29: Transcendence: From Doubt to Heroism
Mei's Workshop
The workshop was filled with an array of support gadgets, prototypes, and mechanical parts.
Mei, Melissa, and Izuku find themselves in this more secluded space to have a personal talk of theirs there.
"Wow, today has been just incredible! But enough about me. Melissa, I've heard you had some encounters with the Kamen Riders and the Roidmudes as well. Would you mind sharing?" Mei says, wiping her hands on a cloth, visibly excited.
Melissa nods, taking a deep breath.
"Sure, of course."
She tells them about her kidnapping experience, worrying the other two teenagers.
"That was when I had firsthand experience with Kamen Rider technology. It's awe-inspiring but also intimidating. But what really changed my perspective was when I encountered Roidmude 031." Melissa says as she continues telling her story.
Izuku was listening intently, sensing the gravity in her tone.
"Ah, Haibara-san. We've heard about her and know she's an ally, but it's still a bit complicated, isn't it?"
Mei nods to this.
"Yes, although the idea of a 'good' Roidmude is still a tough pill to swallow, considering what we've faced with the others."
"I understand the reservations. I had them too, initially. But Haibara-san is different. We formed an unlikely alliance and even went through a fusion process to become a Fusion-Evolved Roidmude." Melissa argues.
This last bit shocked the others.
"Wait, you did what!?" An astonished Izuku asks first.
"That's... incredible! What was it like?" A wide-eyed Mei questions.
The blonde girl's eyes were shining with a mix of awe and sadness as she answered them.
"For the first time, I felt like I had something akin to a Quirk. The experience was both empowering and overwhelming. I felt like I had tapped into a new realm of possibilities, yet also taken on a new realm of responsibilities."
Melissa next takes out a red Cobra Neo Viral Core from her pocket and shows it to them.
"Mrs. Haibara gave me this as a symbol of our bond. She told me it's more than just a piece of technology; it's a part of me now."
"That's incredibly profound, Melissa. And complex. Having a Quirk—or something like it—brings both power and responsibility. But it's also a reminder of how nuanced the world really is, especially when it comes to defining who is an 'enemy.'" Izuku gives his input on the situation.
He could relate due to finally earning a Quirk that he could call his own. All Might also informed him that the Shields were now aware of their unique Quirk.
Melissa's voice softened, her earlier feelings lurking in the back of her mind but kept to herself.
"And yet, despite how crucial this mission is, Professor Steinbelt told me that I wasn't suitable to be a Kamen Rider." She says, surprising the other two. "Even though Quirkless people are the only ones able to actually fight back against the Roidmudes."
Izuku's expression changed, showing a deep sense of understanding.
"I can relate to that, Melissa. Mr. Steinbelt also told me I couldn't become a Kamen Rider. Even though I was willing to give up [One For All] for it, he said I was too emotionally 'unstable' for the role."
But he and the others couldn't fault the older man's reasoning either. The greenette still had a lot of emotional baggage and psychological wounds to unload and heal from.
And all because of his sad childhood, having to grow up as a bullying victim simply because he lacked superpowers…
As requested by Principal Nezu and Aizawa-sensei, Izuku is now having some therapy sessions with Hound Dog.
Mei's tone becomes more gentle, the eyes now filled with a touch of pity.
"Both of you have faced difficult rejections, but we should also try to understand Professor Steinbelt's point of view. Sometimes it's not about who wears the suit; it's about the minds that make the suit possible."
"Yeah, I guess so… Thank you, both of you. It's hard to remember sometimes that there are many ways to be a hero—or to support one." Melissa tells them.
She takes a deep breath, visibly touched by their words, but also silently grappling with her own feelings of jealousy that she chooses not to share.
"That brings us to another crucial point: [One For All]. Since the Roidmudes are involved, the secret behind this quirk can't stay hidden from those closely engaged in the fight." The pinkette inventor speaks. "What if they tell the rest of the world about it someday?"
"Yeah, I could see that happening. But [One For All] isn't just a Quirk; it's a legacy. It's a symbol of hope and a tool for justice, something that needs to be preserved and used wisely."
Melissa agrees with that.
"That's so true, Izuku. And it reminds me that we all have our own legacies and responsibilities to honor, whether it's a quirk passed down through generations, a unique bond with a Roidmude, or skills that we've honed ourselves. I... I'm glad Uncle Might choose you as his successor."
The atmosphere in Mei's workshop has become deeply heartfelt. The added layer of complexity regarding their mixed feelings about Haibara-san and their shared experiences of rejection from Professor Steinbelt adds emotional depth to their conversation.
While Melissa keeps her feelings of jealousy to herself, recognizing the weight each of them carries, the bond between them strengthens. They discuss the weight of their responsibilities, the legacy of [One For All], and the importance of their roles in the fight against the Roidmudes.
As they eventually leave the workshop, it's clear that this fight is not just physical but emotional and intellectual, and each has a significant role to play.
Meanwhile…
Within a Conference Room at U.A.
Krim, David, Toshinori and Nezu sit at the table. The atmosphere inside the room is tense, indicating that the meeting is of great importance.
"Gentlemen, thank you for meeting on such short notice." Krim tells the others. "We have a rather pressing issue regarding the Roidmudes and their increased activity. But first, there's another urgent matter."
"What's the issue, Professor?" David asks his mentor, sensing the gravity in Krim's voice.
"..."
The older scientist pauses for a moment, choosing his words carefully.
"David, I've recently come across some information that involves you directly. And it's quite concerning."
"Concerning how? What's going on?" His protegé asks back, slightly taken aback.
"I learned about this crucial information from Shinra." Krim states. "He copied your data to pose as you the other night. But in the process, he also accessed your memories, revealing something unexpected."
"That sounds extremely serious. What did he find?" Toshinori questioned, frowning.
David seemed to have gone pale at the implication, having connected the dots first.
"Shinra saw your early research on support technology, David, and he discovered that you hired a crew of actors to pretend to be villains." Steinbelt reveals. "The goal was to steal back your Quirk Amplification Device to restore All Might's powers. Something that was supposed to happen during the I-Expo of I-Island, am I correct?"
"What!?" All Might cries in disbelief upon hearing that.
"Would you mind explaining yourself, Mr. Shield?" Nezu asks the genius inventor, also frowning at him.
And so, for the next few minutes, David explained to them about how his assistant Samuel convinced him to go along with that crazy plan of his in order to retrieve the Quirk Amplification Device.
"I... I had no idea Sam would go to such lengths back then. It's true; I did consider going along with that crazy plan, but it was only because I was desperate to help All Might." He tries to justify his decisions, clearly shocked and conflicted about it. "His situation was dire, and I believed this was the only way to restore his powers. I was ready to take full responsibility for my actions."
The others were expressing varying emotions between anger, disappointment, and disbelief.
"That's a terrible breach of trust, David. We understand your motives, but this goes beyond desperation. Your decision to go along with your assistant's suggestion is deeply troubling." Toshinori tells him, clearly upset with his old friend's desperate decision.
"But I didn't hire actual villains! I specifically told Sam that no harm should come to anyone." David argues. "And I actually gave up on it after learning about the truth behind the Kamen Riders and the Roidmudes. I told Sam to forget the whole thing."
"That's not the issue, David." Krim tells him. "You haven't noticed it yet?"
"Notice what?"
"There's no way the people your assistant Samuel hired are just actors. That is too good to be true. Have you not considered the possibility that these people are actual villains? What if they carry on the plan even without you?"
David froze at this, several conclusions going over his head.
No, it can't be…
But then again, David now remembers the last time he spoke with Sam. His assistant sounded very frustrated that he gave up on the plan to steal the Quirk Amplification Device.
The support item in question and its research ended up being confiscated and are still locked away in the I-Island tower's security vaults to this day.
Could it be that…?
"Your Quirk Amplification Device… If that ends up in the wrong hands… The consequences would be catastrophic." Nezu speaks cautiously. "What if your assistant and the villains steal it to sell it later at the black market?"
'What was I thinking?' David laments, only understanding the issue now.
Krim sighs.
"But before we jump into planning how to counter this, we need to address the elephant in the room." He says. "David, you had us all worried."
His protegé nods, looking down.
"I know, and I—"
"Hold on, David. We're not here to berate you. We're concerned, yes, but we also understand that people can make mistakes when they're under a lot of pressure." Toshinori cuts him off.
Nezu nods.
"Indeed. The mind can be a tricky thing. Sometimes it convinces us that bad ideas are good ones, especially when we're desperate." The principal affirms.
"And let's not forget, you did abandon that dangerous plan before it got out of hand. That shows some level of self-awareness and responsibility." Krim commends him.
Wait, what?
Did they actually forgive him? David could not believe it.
But Krim actually understood him. After all, he also had his technology being used for the wrong purpose after the fiasco with Banno.
He didn't want his disciple to go through the same thing…
And Toshinori would always be there to help him too. Like a brother in all but blood.
As he realizes this, his eyes meet each of their faces, visibly moved.
"I can't thank you enough for understanding. I thought I was doing what needed to be done, but I realize now how reckless I was." David tells them.
"David, you're part of this team. We're not just colleagues; we're a family. Families forgive and help each other grow." Toshinori assures him.
"Precisely. Now, would you like to say something before we focus on the villains that your assistant Samuel hired?" Nezu questions.
The I-Island inventor pauses, taking a deep breath.
"I am deeply, deeply sorry for not thinking things through and almost putting us all in jeopardy. I promise it won't happen again, and I'll do everything in my power to make things right."
"Actions speak louder than words. We forgive you, David. Now let's channel this unity into stopping those villains." Krim says.
Toshinori nods as he adds:
"Agreed. The priority is to counter the threat Samuel has put into motion. Any ideas on how to protect the city's power grid? We also have to alert the authorities there."
"Time is of the essence. Let's get to work." Nezu tells them.
"One more thing. We should all agree not to tell Melissa about any of this. Knowing what her father almost did would break her heart." Toshinori reminds them, an expression of concern coming over his and the others' faces.
Krim agrees with him.
"I second that. She doesn't need to carry that burden."
"Agreed. The less she knows, the better for her emotional well-being." Nezu adds.
David nods, his face a mix of relief and sadness
"Thank you. I couldn't bear the thought of her losing faith in me."
Later…
At I-Island
{Alright, we've received your down payment, and we got your plans, maps, and tickets. We'll be seeing you at I-Expo soon, then,}
A voice said over Samuel's phone.
"Good, you better deliver your end of the deal if you want to get that money," Samuel said, his fingers tightening.
{Of course. Me and my boys are going to get your device no problem, Mr. Abraham. You have my word,} the voice said, hanging up.
Samuel sighed, as his arm fell down onto the table, his phone clattering onto it.
He couldn't believe that David would want to back out of their plan!
This- This was infuriating!
First he let their research get taken by their sponsors, confiscated and locked away in I-Island's vault, and now he wants to back out!?
They worked for so long on this project to help people, but all that time and effort was going up in smoke!
He should at least get some money out of this!
And while the other job offers would be interesting, he'd be forced to start all over from scratch!
Samuel had to do something.
He couldn't let this happen. He'll get the Quirk Amplification Device back, by any means!
He was thinking of getting real villains to help out, and it was a good thing he did, too. That would be a nice extra slap against David. There was no way actors would want to risk very real jail time if they stole something from a place as secure as I-Island-
{So, you're Mr. Samuel Abraham, correct?}
Samuel froze and shot out of his chair, looking around in his room for the intruder's voice.
"W-Who are you!? Show yourself!" he cried, reaching out for a golf club (he was terrible at the game, but it didn't stop him from playing it every Sunday).
*Bzzt!*
To his fright, a figure appeared on the room's monitor.
The entity stepped off from the monitor, revealing the macabre form of the Another Drive Roidmude.
"Hello there." He greets the human, even waving his hand mockingly.
"Ahhhh!"
*Bam!*
With a cry, Samuel swung his golf club into the android's head, but instead of knocking his helmet off, the golf club bent backwards.
"Wow, that must be a very expensive and durable golf club if it can stay intact like that," The Executive casually comments. "Usually, things like that would just snap right off."
"W-What do you want from me!?" Samuel asks, sweating heavily as he backs away from the mechanical monster. "I-I don't have anything valuable you can take!"
"On the contrary, I heard that you do! You see, I've been asking some people around, and I've heard that you and your boss have created something that you call a Quirk Amplification Device," Another Drive comments.
Samuel stiffened, shocked that the Roidmude knew about it.
"And I want to help you get it back."
"R-Really?" Samuel asked, apprehensively. "How?"
"By throwing in some extra help for you to use, of course. It'll be a great distraction for you to take your project back." The Roidmude Executive said, moving right next to Samuel and slinging a 'friendly' arm around his shoulder.
"I-I don't need your help!" Samuel cried, backing away from him. "I already have a plan to get it back, I don't need anything else!"
"Really? That's a shame," Another Drive sighed, shaking his head as he took a seat on Samuel's couch. "Then I guess this just means I'll just have to make my own plan to take it for myself."
"What!?"
"You see, your project got me interested in what I could use for my own plans. So let's make this a competition. Let's see who manages to take the Quirk Amplification Device first. To make this fair, I won't even use my powers to immediately teleport into the vault where they're keeping it. Will it be your mercenaries who'll get it first? Or will it be me? All I can say is good luck to you!"
Of course, he could always scan this human for extra information. But someone like Samuel Abraham was an insignificant and worthless example of a human being. No need to get his hands on such pathetic data. Maybe he could ask one of his subordinates to study this man later.
Going straight for the device would be boring as well and pointless as well. It would be more productive for their study of human emotions if the Roidmudes watched these pitful humans struggle and suffer to achieve what they want. Truly, a race to obtain the Quirk Amplification Device would make things more interesting. Maybe this will allow him to find notable humans with strong negative emotions, the answer possibly being one of the mercenaries that Samuel has hired.
With that thought in mind, Another Drive got off the couch and gave Samuel a bow, as he went back onto the monitor he came from, turning into data and disappearing.
*Bzzt!*
Samuel then fell onto his knees, the anxiety finally kicking in.
Just what had he gotten himself into?
Night time…
Steinbelt Manor, Melissa's Guest Room
The door opens softly, and Kanade steps into the dimly lit room with a concerned expression on her face.
She spots Melissa, who is sitting on the edge of her bed, staring at her phone.
The secretary knocks lightly on the door frame, her tone is flirty but concerned:
"Hey there, Melissa-chan. Mind if I grace this room with my presence?"
The surprised teenager looks up at the bluenette woman, forcing up a smile.
"Oh, hey Mrs. Haibara. Is there a problem? Come on in."
Kanade closes the door behind her and sits beside Melissa, the female Roidmude's demeanor shifting into a serious one.
"You seemed a little out of it during dinner, Melissa. Everything alright, darling?"
The young inventor pauses, then sighs, clearly reluctant to share her troubles with the older woman.
"I'm fine, really. Just a bit tired, I guess." She says vaguely, sounding very insecure.
Kanade notices that and raises an eyebrow, clearly not convinced by the answer.
"You know, 'fine' and 'tired' are usually the code for 'I don't want to talk about it'." She says, making Melissa look at her with a wary look. "But hey, if you don't want to talk, that's okay too."
"It's not that big of a deal…"
"Is this about Hatsume Mei-chan? Or Midoriya Izuku-kun?"
The blonde tries to say, but the secretary cuts her off.
Now Melissa looks up, shocked at Kanade's deduction.
"How did you...?" She tries to ask, simply earning a sympathetic smile from the bluenette in response.
"Krim told me what he wanted to do at U.A. today. Neither I nor the others(Shinra and Shinji) could come with you guys earlier because we were busy with other tasks. But overall, it seemed to have been a productive day for everyone." Kanade speculates, cupping a hand under her chin. "Or that was supposed to be the case until I saw your expression, Melissa."
"Was it that obvious for you, Mrs. Haibara?" The blonde asks the android.
Kanade chuckles softly.
"It was your eyes, my dear." She reveals.
"My eyes?" The girl parrots.
"They're like an open book." Kanade clarifies. "Plus, you haven't touched your dessert at dinner. And let's not forget about our fusion experience; I got some data on how your personality works. I can tell, to an extent, what is bothering you."
Astonished with Kanade's perceptive skills, Melissa eventually decides to open up.
"You're good... Alright, you got me. Maybe it's because you saved my life, but I feel like I can trust you. Plus, I really feel like I should talk about it."
Kanade nods in understanding as she makes a small smile, her eyes softening.
"Your call, darling. I'm all ears."
Melissa takes a deep breath, her voice trembling as she starts to unload.
"Okay, so where do I start…? *Sigh* First, Professor Steinbelt told me that I'm not fit to become a Kamen Rider, which is something that could have now been the equivalent of fulfilling my dream of becoming a Hero of my own, while still staying as a Quirkless person.
The truth is that I couldn't help but become inspired by his stories about them and also due to learning how Mr. Tomari and Mrs. Shijima are now both fighting against the Roimudes to protect everyone. I understand his reason, but it still feels so unfair that Professor Steinbelt doesn't want to let everyone Quirkless get the chance to try becoming a Rider."
"So you went to U.A. despite still thinking about this." Kanade nods in understanding.
"Then I found out that Izuku got his [One For All] Quirk from Uncle Might. And to top it all off, I witnessed Krim choose Mei as his apprentice. It's like…"
Melissa trails off as tears start to slowly form in her eyes.
"I'm being sidelined, and it's really, really frustrating! *Sniff*" She rants, placing a hand on her chest.
"It's like no one expects anything from me. It's just that... I feel so useless. Like I'm not good enough for anything or anyone. I even promised Uncle Might that I wouldn't resent Izuku, and I've befriended both him and Mei. But... I can't help but feel this ugly jealousy, and I'm ashamed of it."
Kanade reaches out and gently takes Melissa's hand, her own yellow eyes softening even more.
"Melissa, it's okay to feel those emotions. You're human, and it's natural to feel jealous or left out sometimes. What's not okay is bottling up those feelings until they consume you."
The girl's voice breaks a little.
"But I don't want to be that person. I don't want to be someone who holds grudges or envies her friends." The blonde complains.
The secretary squeezes Melissa's hand reassuringly.
"Acknowledging your feelings doesn't make you a bad person. It makes you self-aware. And being self-aware gives you the opportunity to manage those emotions constructively. Sometimes, it's okay to let it out and cry." Kanade assures her.
"Listen, you are good enough. Life has a way of throwing curveballs at us, but that doesn't define who we are or what we're capable of. Your journey is yours alone, and sometimes, the path is winding and confusing." The bluenette secretary adds.
Melissa wipes away a tear, her eyes meeting Kanade's.
"Y-You really think so?"
The female Roidmude smiles, genuinely offering emotional support.
"I know so. And I'm not just saying this to make you feel better. You have your own strengths, your own qualities that make you special. Don't lose sight of that. So, it's okay. It's okay to cry when you're sad. Just let it all out."
Melissa finally lets the tears flow, crying softly as she leans her head on Kanade's shoulder.
"Thank you, Mrs. Haibara. That means the world to me right now."
The bluenette wraps her arm around the girl, comforting and trying to soothe her.
"It's okay, Melissa. Let it out. Let it all out. You're not alone."
Melissa continues to cry softly, her body shaking with the weight of her emotions. Kanade continues to hold her, offering a comforting presence as the minutes tick by.
Slowly, the young Shield's cries subside, and she drifts off to sleep, still leaning on Kanade's shoulder. The older woman carefully lays Melissa down on the bed, pulling the covers over her.
"Sleep well, Melissa. Dream only sweet dreams, okay?" The secretary whispers softly as she feels Melissa's body relax.
Kanade casts one last concerned but affectionate look at the sleeping Melissa before quietly exiting the room.
"Goodnight, Melissa."
The door closes softly, leaving Melissa alone but emotionally lighter, her face still wet with tears but her heart a little less burdened.
Steinbelt Manor - Krim's office
Krim currently sat in his private study, perusing papers relevant to the I-Expo.
As CEO of the world's leading tech company, the scientist annually attends this technology innovation fair. Not only was he the primary benefactor for various endeavors conducted on I-Island, but a research-focused subsidiary of Steinbelt Corporation had also been established there.
*Knock!* *Knock!*
However, his contemplation was disrupted when someone entered the room.
It was Kanade.
"Kanade? What's going on? Is something wrong?" He inquires of her, raising an eyebrow at her.
The secretary gazes at her boss with a resolute expression.
"I need to ask a favor from you, Krim."
The following day…
Evening
Steinbelt Manor - Living Room
On a cold, rainy evening, the tranquility of the Steinbelt Manor was disrupted by the soft chime of the doorbell.
Yuriko, drenched from the rain, stepped into the warm, inviting living room of the Manor. Her eyes were tired, bearing the burden of the harrowing case that lay unresolved on her desk.
Krim welcomed her with a comforting smile and offered a cup of warm tea. The comfort of the Manor seemed to ease Yuriko's anxiety, if only a little.
"So, how is the case going, Yuriko?" He asks.
The scientist's piercing eyes seemed to see right through the veil of mysteries that shrouded the city.
Yuriko, desperate for some insight, got straight to business. With her meticulous case files spread out on the polished wooden table, the detective was explaining the intricacies of the case to Krim.
As they sat across each other, the eerie glow from the fireplace casting long shadows on the vintage flooring, the silence between them was heavy with questions.
The Roidmudes, despite their human-like evolution, remained mechanical entities. The concept of them utilizing a drug meant for enhancing human Quirks seemed implausible.
Krim, his fingers gently tapping on the armrest of his chair, seemed lost in thought. His knowledge about the Roidmudes was profound, yet the link to Trigger was a maze with no apparent exit.
Yuriko, her eyes scanning the myriad papers scattered on the table, was desperately searching for a clue, a tiny thread that could unravel the mystery.
She broke the silence, her voice reflecting the confusion that clouded her mind.
"Krim, the logic behind the Roidmudes seeking still Trigger confuses me. I mean, they are robots, right? How exactly does a drug meant for human consumption serve their purposes?"
Krim looked at her, his eyes had a faraway look. It was evident the gears in his mind were turning at a furious pace. After a long pause, he spoke, his voice steady but with a hint of uncertainty.
"Yuriko, the Roidmudes have always been about defying boundaries, about transcending the mechanical realm to mimic human attributes. But you're right, Trigger is a human drug, it's not designed for android physiology...unless..."
His voice trailed off, but the seed of a horrifying hypothesis was planted. Yuriko caught on quickly, her face turned pale as she voiced the unspeakable thought.
"You don't mean to suggest that they might be intending to use Trigger on humans...to control or manipulate them?"
Krim nodded gravely.
"It's a speculation, but it's a possibility we cannot ignore. The Roidmudes could be plotting to use Trigger to create a horde of enhanced, yet mentally shackled humans to further their nefarious agenda. Just like the Neo Viral Cores, the drug could be a tool to forge a dangerous symbiosis between humans and Roidmudes, a union that could spell doom for our society."
The chilling premise hung in the air between them, intertwining with the shadows that danced around the room. The Roidmudes' plan was a grotesque tapestry of evolution and domination, one that threatened to erase the thin line that separated man from machine.
As the weight of realization settled in the room, casting a cold shiver down their spines, a sudden interruption jolted them from the grim scenario they were sketching. The door swung open with a soft creak, and Melissa stumbled in.
Her eyes were wide with both surprise and curiosity as she took in the scene before her – the grave expressions on Yuriko and Krim's faces, the case files scattered across the table, the eerie dance of shadows on the wall.
"I-I'm sorry," she stuttered, taking a step back, realizing she might have intruded upon something significant. "I didn't mean to interrupt."
Yuriko, shaking off the heaviness of the discussion, stood up and gestured for Melissa to come in.
"You're not interrupting. We were just discussing the case." She reassures the girl.
Melissa hesitated for a moment at the threshold before stepping in, her curiosity overtaking her initial reluctance.
"I overheard something about Trigger and the Roidmudes," she said cautiously, not wanting to overstep her boundaries. "Is there any way I can help?"
Yuriko, understanding the young invertor's nervousness, offered a reassuring smile.
"It's alright, Melissa. Please, come in. By the way, I am Shijima Yuriko. I'm sure everyone must have filled you in about the situation."
Melissa nods, gaining a bit of confidence, stepped further into the room and handed a folder to Yuriko.
"It's an honor to finally meet you, Mrs. Shijima. I've heard a lot about your dedication to fight the Roidmudes as Kamen Rider Tracer." The teenager tells the police detective.
As the room filled with the amalgam of experiences and aspirations, Yuriko found herself slightly taken aback by the praises showered upon her by the young intern, Melissa. Each compliment sent a ripple of awkward pride through Yuriko, who had always considered her relentless pursuit of justice as nothing more than her duty.
Yet, here was Melissa, looking at her with eyes filled with admiration and gratitude, making Yuriko realize the impact of her actions beyond the precinct.
Melissa, with a soft, heartfelt tone, continued:
"Mrs. Shijima, I can't thank you enough. The day you and the others rescued me from the clutches of the Roidmudes… It was a new lease of life for me."
Yuriko, trying to mask the flush that crept up her cheeks, humbly responded,
"I just did what any officer would do, Melissa. But I'm glad you're doing fine."
As the discussion ebbed for a moment, Melissa's curious eyes darted around the room, realizing the absence of another key player in this investigation. Turning towards Yuriko, she inquired,
"May I ask where your partner is? I've heard his fighting skills are unparalleled."
Yuriko, sipping on her lukewarm tea, responded,
"Ah, my partner is still out there in the field, investigating some leads. He's chasing down information that could help us understand the Roidmudes' interest in Trigger. He's supposed to join us later, once he's gathered enough intel."
Melissa nodded, absorbing the information. She could sense the camaraderie and respect Yuriko had for her partner, a sentiment that seemed to be the backbone of their successful teamwork.
'Tomari Yuuki…' The blonde girl says the name in her head, wondering when she will get the chance to meet the infamous man that serves as Krim's operator.
As the discussion progressed, the atmosphere in the room was charged with a blend of urgency and resolve.
Melissa, with her mind bubbling with ideas and inquiries, was on the verge of voicing her thoughts when Krim, sensing the need for a breather, turned to Yuriko.
"Yuriko," Krim said in a gentle yet firm tone, "It's crucial to take a step back, even in the midst of chaos. I suggest we take a short break, regroup our thoughts, and then dive back in with a refreshed perspective."
Yuriko, realizing the wisdom in Krim's words, agreed. She was rubbing her eyes with her hand, showing signs of mental exhaustion.
"You're right, Krim. A clear mind is our best asset."
Seizing this opportunity, Melissa, who had been yearning for a more personal interaction with Yuriko, gestured towards the hallway leading to a quaint little room adorned with soft lights and comfortable seating.
"Mrs. Shijima, could I have a moment with you? There's something I've been meaning to talk about with you." Melissa said, her tone reflecting a blend of respect and anticipation.
Yuriko, intrigued by the girl's earnest approach, followed her into the room. As they settled down in the cozy ambiance, the soft glow of the lamp casting a warm hue around, Melissa took a deep breath before speaking.
"I've been following your 'career' as Tracer for a while, and the way you handle cases, the dedication you exhibit, it's truly interesting." Melissa said, her eyes gleaming with admiration. "And having witnessed firsthand the terror the Roidmudes can unleash, the day you saved me was the day I decided to learn everything I could to support the Kamen Riders."
Yuriko, touched by Melissa's sincerity, felt a soft warmth spreading through her. It was moments like these that reinforced the significance of her duty, beyond just solving cases.
Melissa continued, her voice steady:
"I am now fascinated by the world of Kamen Riders and the hope they represent, especially nowadays where almost everyone has a Quirk. Now I want to contribute, learn from you, and hopefully, make a difference. So, I wanted to ask you this, Mrs. Shijima: What is it like being a Kamen Rider?"
Yuriko paused for a moment, her eyes reflecting the myriad emotions and experiences that came with the mantle of a Kamen Rider. With a heartfelt tone, she began:
"For me, being a Kamen Rider is a feeling of immense honor yet laden with heavy responsibilities. It's not about the glory or fame, which many might presume. It's about standing up for what's right, about being a beacon of hope in a world threatened by shadows."
Her voice was soft, yet carried a weight of determination and sincerity that resonated deeply with Melissa.
Yuriko continued, her gaze steady,
"The mantle of Kamen Rider bestows upon one the power to make a difference, to shield the innocent from the clutches of evil. But with it comes the burden of holding the thin line between hope and despair."
Melissa could see the fervent glow of idealism in Yuriko's eyes, her words were a testament to her unyielding spirit and the profound sense of duty she carried in her heart.
'She really seems like a strong-willed person. Is that why Professor Steinbelt chose her? Is that what I lack?' The teenager thinks.
But as the conversation deepened, Yuriko's expressions began to unravel the layers of emotions and fears that accompanied the courageous facade of a Kamen Rider. Her voice wavered slightly as she delved into the less glorified aspect of her role.
"But I won't deny that the battles also scare me," Yuriko admitted, her gaze momentarily drifting towards the stormy night outside. "Each fight carries the weight of countless lives, the safety of loved ones, and the essence of justice we strive to uphold. The fear of failing, of letting down those who depend on us, it's a heavy burden."
Her eyes met Melissa's, portraying a solemn truth.
"I don't step into the fights because I believe I can win; I step in because I have to win. The cost of failure is not an option, and that urgency, that desperate wish to always prevail, drives me past the fear, past the doubts."
Melissa listened intently, the image of an infallible warrior she had of Yuriko was morphing into a portrait of a brave, yet humanly vulnerable soul. A soul that carried the hopes of many, the weight of justice, and the fears of the battlefield all in one stride.
Yuriko continued,
"I can't afford to be helpless, to stand by while the threat looms over the ones I care for. Each battle is a plea for a safer tomorrow, a step towards restoring the peace that's been stolen from us."
The room resonated with the echo of Yuriko's heartfelt confessions.
Melissa's perception of her shifted, realizing that behind the mask of the Kamen Rider was a heart that bled, feared, and hoped just like any other.
She actually thought Yuriko would turn out to be someone prideful and confident, like Uncle Might in a way, who happened to be lucky enough to be chosen by Krim and be entrusted with the Rider System.
But she was wrong…
"I had imagined you as this invincible figure, someone beyond the reach of fear or doubt," Melissa suddenly said softly. "But now, understanding the struggles you face, the fears you overcome to stand as a beacon of hope... it's overwhelmingly human. It makes the symbol of Kamen Rider all the more inspiring."
Yuriko offered a comforting smile, appreciating Melissa's understanding.
"We all have our fears, Melissa. But it's the choice to face them, to fight for what's right despite them, that truly defines our path. And that's a choice we all have the power to make, every single day."
Melissa's eyes sparkled with a blend of excitement and reverence as she delved into a dream that had nestled in her heart for as long as she could remember.
"I always wanted to be a Hero. But everyone said I couldn't become one because of my Quirklessness. However, ever since I witnessed the valor of Kamen Riders, especially on the day you rescued me, I've harbored this dream of becoming one like you. The idea of fighting for justice, of protecting the innocent, resonates deeply with me."
Yuriko listened attentively, her eyes reflecting the earnest zeal in Melissa's voice. The path of a Kamen Rider was one of justice but also of peril, a truth she had come to learn through countless battles and near-death experiences.
"Do you think I can become a Kamen Rider, Mrs. Shijima?" Melissa finally asks the main question.
With a gentle, understanding nod, Yuriko responded,
"Your aspiration is noble, Melissa. And this is a path that can indeed make a significant difference. But it's also a path laden with unyielding responsibility and danger. We are not like the 'strong and charismatic' Pro Heroes everyone else loves either. This is pretty much a thankless job."
Her voice carried a blend of encouragement and a solemn warning as she continued,
"Becoming a Kamen Rider requires a resolve of steel. The battles you'll face will challenge you to the core, both physically and morally. And once you step into this realm, there's no turning back. The mantle of a Kamen Rider isn't one that can be put on and taken off at will. It's a pledge to fight against evil, a vow to protect, come what may."
Melissa absorbed Yuriko's words, feeling the weight of the responsibility that came with the title of a Kamen Rider. Her admiration for the police detective deepened, seeing the blend of courage, compassion, and unwavering resolve that defined her.
"You need to be prepared, not just for the battles against the foes we face, but for the battle within, the doubts, the fears, and the sacrifices that may come with the duty," Yuriko added, her voice soft yet firm, resonating with the essence of truth borne out of experience.
Melissa, with a thoughtful nod, appreciated the profound insight Yuriko provided. The road ahead was daunting if she really tries to become a Kamen Rider herself.
With a humble gratitude, she said:
"Thank you, Mrs. Shijima. Your words have given me a lot to reflect upon."
The conversation left a mark of profound understanding and respect, as the torch of wisdom and experience was shared from the seasoned Kamen Rider to the aspiring heart yearning to follow the path of valor for the greater good.
As the room settled into a comforting silence after Yuriko left, Melissa found herself lost in a whirlpool of reflections. The conversation with the female police detective had opened a window into the life and psyche of a Kamen Rider, a reality far from the glorified tales, yet profoundly inspiring.
She sat there, reminiscing Yuriko's words, her candid admission of fears, her unwavering resolve to face them, and her selfless dedication towards the cause of justice. The older woman was a living testament to the fact that being a Kamen Rider was not about being devoid of fear or flaws, but about having the courage to face them head-on, to continue the fight even when the odds seemed insurmountable.
Melissa's heart swirled with a blend of admiration and introspection. She could see the stark contrast between Yuriko's seasoned resolve and her own nascent determination.
The female vigilante's ability to acknowledge her fears, to not let them dictate her actions, but instead, use them as a catalyst to forge ahead, was a display of strength that Melissa could aspire to emulate.
She pondered upon her own reflections in the face of adversity, her reactions when confronted with fear. The realization dawned upon her that she was still nowhere near the level of fortitude and tenacity that people, who became Kamen Riders, exhibited.
Her desire to perhaps become a Kamen Rider was sincere, but did she possess the steel resolve to face the nightmares that came with the duty?
Her thoughts wandered through the labyrinths of self-doubt and aspiration, each word of Yuriko echoing through the corridors of her mind, "There's no turning back once you step in."
She realized that the path of a Kamen Rider was one of self-transcendence, of outgrowing one's fears, flaws, and every shred of complacency. It was about growing into a bastion of hope and justice in a world threatened by darkness.
As Melissa sat there, the silhouette of Kamen Rider Tracer's brave demeanor cast a long, inspiring shadow on the canvas of her aspirations.
The journey ahead was long, the lessons many, and the stakes unimaginably high. Yet, the flame of resolve flickered with a new vigor within her, fueled by the exemplary courage and honesty of the woman she had come to admire profoundly.
With a silent vow to strive, to grow, and to face the fears that awaited, Melissa stepped into a realm of self-reflection, inching closer to the day when she too could stand against the shadows as a 'hero' of her own, with a heart full of courage and a soul armored with unwavering resolve.

Thank you for reading!
This chapter primarily centered on Melissa, as she pondered whether to truly try becoming a Kamen Rider or not.
Starting next chapter, I will delve into the I-Island arc. Some intriguing surprises are already planned out.

Question Corner!
[Does any of you have a creative idea to explain what the Roidmudes intend to do with Trigger?]
Review Time!
brave kid: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter!
Guest DCDGojira: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter!
As for why the Roidmudes want Trigger? You will find out eventually.
Obsidian Nova Arc: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter!
You offered some pretty interesting ideas. I will try to make use of them later in the next chapters.
Haxorus knight: Yes, a mercenary Kamen Rider of sorts. But I probably won't use the codename Hunk because I want a more menace-sounding nickname.
kamenrider13489: Sorry, but I'm currently not interested in making any react fanfics.
For'Sleep 3rd: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter!
No, I didn't specify yet when it would be that the MLA would receive a visit from the Roidmudes. I'm still thinking about it. Maybe it will be after the events of the I-Island Arc.
I'm kinda mixed about Toga's situation as well. Not sure what I will do with her ultimate fate yet in this story.
2nd review: I have no idea how to explain the origin of Quirks. What about you? Do you have any suggestions?
Kamenmaximus: Ok, I will try to not write some parts that way in future chapters.
Toa Solaric: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter! Yeah, Melissa will take some time to reflect before stepping up and making her final decision.
Recentreader325: You just gave me a lot of interesting ideas. Thanks! I will try to make use of them later in the next chapters.
1971kr: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter!
Ok, I will try to do that later. For now, the only Quirk I have put in that category is Tsukauchi Naomasa's [Lie Detector] Quirk, which can help the Drive Team possibly identify some of the disguised Roidmudes in the future.
TheRealD3lph0xL0v3r: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter!
I think I will settle with one of the codenames you offered as Melissa's Kamen Rider identity.
dariuscrawford482: Yes, I have watched Madan Senki Ryukendo. But I have never heard of the other one you mentioned in your review. I will try to check it out later in my free time.
Honestly, I don't think I'm the guy capable of pulling those crossovers out. I have watched the animes, but I have no idea how to mix them with the Tokusatsu series you mentioned. I'm more comfortable working with Kamen Rider crossover fanfics.
SynchroRegis: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter!
carlosblue14: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter! You offered some pretty interesting ideas. I will try to make use of them later in the next chapters.
ppyae361999: Thanks! Glad you liked the chapter!
qeotieu34: Of course, I will make that happen later.
FlameFireZero X: Yeah, maybe. It would be funny if there was someone like that to complete this possible set.
So, what do you guys think? Please give me some reviews if possible.
