Another chapter coming at you! I hope everyone who is a follower of my stories is liking them so far! I'm working on multiple projects at once so some are slower to update then others! Sorry for that! It seems my imagination just runs wild with stuff and I can't help but fixate on multiple things at once! So many things and only one me (and my lovely Beta who's helping me on Heart of Change and Heart of Shadows!)

Crookedstar sometimes wished that he had never been born. To be put through so much heartache and suffering time and again for something an ancestor from his bloodline did was unfair. Why him?Was it because Mapleshade saw how weak-willed and gullible Crookedstar was as a kit? Was it because he sought recognition and pride from someone that didn't look upon his crooked jaw with nothing but pity? Was it because Mapleshade offered him a path to being great just like his brother when everyone else believed he'd never measure up? He made a promise to her that led to his own condemnation.

For a long time after discovering her true nature, Crookedstar lived in fear of losing everyone dear to him, he still did, but looking into those gloating amber eyes before him he felt nothing but overwhelming anger.

The ragged, tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat spirit slowly prowled around Crookedstar from where he stood in the center of his own den. Looking alarming smug with herself. No good will come of this abrupt meeting.

Crookedstar didn't allow her to get the first word in as he growled, "Why this sudden intrusion, Mapleshade?"

Mapleshade wasted no time to reveal some of her paw. "Why else? You're not upholding your end of the promise." It was said condescendingly and with that gloating look in her eyes it sent Crookedstar's hackles rising.

"And now you're here to make another threat." Crookedstar accused, tired of this game of cat and mouse.

"I don't make threats," Mapleshade purred as she stood face to face with the disfigured RiverClan leader. "I make promises and I uphold them."

"And what promise do you have for me this time?" Crookedstar challenged, because he saw the hidden meaning now behind all these promises.

Finally, the large, tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat, with a scarred white muzzle decided to stop beating around the bush, "I find that apprentice to be a distraction and even a liability to RiverClan and have acted accordingly to fix the situation."

Crookedstar froze, heart clenching in his chest as he quickly figured out just which apprentice it was that Mapleshade was speaking about, "What did you do to Morningpaw?!"

Crookedstar knew that Mapleshade hadn't revealed her paw, not fully. Worse was coming and now Morningpaw was being pulled into it. The RiverClan leader wasn't certain just how much impact a ThunderClan leader from futures past that somehow accidentally ended up in his own will effect whatever destiny Mapleshade has shaped for him, but Crookedstar felt deep inside that Morningpaw could be the salvation he had been praying to StarClan for.

Mapleshade appeared smug as a mad glint appeared within her ghostly glowing amber eyes, "you are just about to find out." Within a blink of an eye Mapleshade disappeared before Crookedstar, it took him a moment to regain his bearings, and once managed to he became aware of the commotion coming from outside his den.

Alarmed and with Mapleshade's vague threat fresh on his mind, Crookedstar shot out of his den, trying to spot the source of the ruckus.

It was one of the apprentices, Heavypaw, who stood panting like a dog, shaken and a little cut up, his yellow eyes wide with panic.

"What's going on?" Crookedstar demanded as he pushed his way through to get to Heavypaw. "What happened? Why are you like this?"

"Was…attacked by…group of Twolegs." Heavypaw managed to get out between panicked breaths. "Me and Morningpaw got stuck hiding in some reeds near the border between RiverClan and ThunderClan when we got surrounded by Twolegs. I barely got away but they have Morningpaw!"

Crookedstar took a sharp inhale at the news. This is what Mapleshade meant by "fix the situation" she was behind this, just like she used to.

"When did this happen?!" The shouts of his brother drew Crookedstar out of his momentary rumination.

"Just a little while ago!" Heavypaw responded. "I tried to get here as fast as I could, honest."

"Then we have to go and get her!" Demanded Whiteclaw, sounding worried for his future mate.

"Hold on. Everyone!" Crookedstar ordered as he finally came to intervene and take charge of the situation. His Clanmate's turned to him, looking for guidance, looking at him for a solution to the problem.

"Morningpaw had been taken by Twolegs." Oakheart said, as though Crookedstar hasn't already heard it be repeated by practically every cat within earshot. "It's just like when…"

Crookedstar gave his brother a sharp look, not having to hear her name to know who had in the past been kidnapped by Twolegs. His brother wisely didn't continue.

"And how did she get caught?" Crookedstar questioned.

"There was this silver Twolegs thing that seemed to fall from the sky." Heavypaw recounted, seeming to think. "It came out of nowhere!"

In his mind Crookedstar recalled a ghostly figure tapping a ball towards a bed of reeds where a pale silver-gray tabby she-cat hid. A situation that was out of his paws. Was this to be a permanence in his life? Forced to follow the destiny that Mapleshade lays out for him. But then again, wasn't Morningpaw's mere existence in opposition of that idea?

"We can't let them take another cat from us." Crookedstar meowed, gesturing for his brother, Leopardfur, Silverstream and Whiteclaw to follow him to his den. "And I think I know how."
