The world froze and Pyrrha blinked as Nora suddenly charged past her.
The next thing she knew, Jaune was stepping towards her.
"You look beautiful." Jaune said with a bright smile on his face and Pyrrha felt lost at the wonder and love in his eyes.
"Thank you." She blushed as she pulled a strand of hair back behind her ear before looking down at her feet when she felt Jaune's eyes roam her body.
She was now infinitely more thankful for following Blake's advice to wear something more…provocative.
It wasn't anything slutty but it was a far cry from her more modest style.
As always, she wore her tiara as a headpiece but her red dress was backless with the neckline traveling down far enough to show her collarbone and a hint of her cleavage.
It also had a slit on the side of her right thigh to show off her shapely leg while being long enough to touch her ankle.
All in all, it was a striking attire that Pyrrha just knew would turn heads wherever she goes.
And it just turned the head of the only man she wanted towards her.
Still, she knew they were attracting too much attention. Attention they didn't need while Jaune was still in the middle of making a name for himself to be her equal that it wouldn't matter if he had fake transcripts or not.
"Jaune, you're too close. People are looking." She said worriedly as Jaune stayed silent and kept looking at her.
"Don't worry, they think I'm using you as my shield." He whispered softly with a smile on his face causing Pyrrha to tilt her head in confusion.
"Shield from what?"
"More drama. Now come on, let's go." He answered before holding her hand and pulling her away from the growing commotion.
She gasped as they cut through the crowd and her heart skipped a beat as she looked at Jaune's blonde hair from behind.
It might have been a small thing for any other girl but to someone like Pyrrha who was always mobbed by people ever since she became famous, it was a fantasy come true.
Even the crowd parted-no, wait!
Crowds didn't part for her. They usually gather more people and swarm her which means….she wasn't the focus!
How could she forget?!
"Jaune! Wait!" She gasped as she turned her head around to see they had already passed Nora who was clutching at Ren while glaring at a blushing Ciel.
"Sorry, Pyr! I've already been involved in too much drama. We are going in now." Jaune shook his head at her as they arrived at the door to the dance hall.
"Don't you think we should help them?" Pyrrha bit her lip as she paused, causing Jaune to stop and turn towards her.
"Fine." Jaune sighed before turning back towards Ren, Nora, and Ciel. "Hey, Nora! Ren really really loves you!"
Nora squealed as she suddenly hugged Ren tighter to the cheers and laughter of the crowd.
Pyrrha gawked at how effective that was.
"Problem solved." Jaune smirked and Pyrrha shook her head at that.
"I guess that's one way to do it."
"Trust me, Pyr. It was the best way to do it without being involved." He added as they entered the dance hall only to find another commotion.
Instead of an organized line of people lining up to join the dance, they saw a group converging at the registration table near the entrance.
"Please Friend Blake! Please teach us how Girlfriend Ruby and I can be close to Friend Jaune to call him Boyfriend!"
B-b-boyfriend?!
"What?" She blinked at the words she just heard before Jaune nudged her with his shoulder.
"You see what I had to deal with?" He smiled wryly at the scene in front of them.
They saw Penny holding a blushing Ruby and badgering a haggard Blake behind the registration table.
Weiss and Yang were nowhere to be seen and Pyrrha could only assume the two were deeper in the dance hall ensuring everything was going well.
Pyrrha nodded wordlessly in understanding before Jaune started to lead her forward.
"I think Penny is just confusing the word boyfriend for a close friend but you should also know that people already saw me and Blake holding hands earlier so…yeah." Jaune whispered to her side as he adjusted their arms so hers would hold onto his by the crook of his arm.
Pyrrha immediately got the message.
For now, in the eyes of the public, Blake was the girlfriend and she was just his partner.
She could do this, right? Right?! No need to be nervous and she obviously wasn't jealous. It's just that…..how can she hold back if Jaune is just being perfect?!
He strode up exasperatedly but confidently without a care for all the other people around them that Pyrrha could imagine herself walking alongside him as his girlfriend even in the eyes of the public!
He even gave her a comforting smile when a shiver passed through her arm!
Her nerves failed her however when the crowd around the table started to gossip as they saw her walking with Jaune and she blushed at the content of their words.
"Another one?" A guy clicked his tongue and she blushes even more when Jaune only smirks in his direction.
"Wasn't he already holding hands with Belladonna earlier?" Another guy asked incredulously and Pyrrha couldn't help but look at Blake's reaction at that.
Green eyes meet amber and Pyrrha smiles when she sees Blake nod with a small smile of her own as Ruby mouthed the word help beside her.
"Well she doesn't look angry at least."
"They must've just come as partners then."
Oh if only they knew. If only they-
"Friend Pyrrha! Are you his Girlfriend too?!" Penny asked with bright eyes.
Pyrrha froze as all eyes landed on them that she could even feel Jaune stumble.
She longs for the day she could say yes without consequences but for now, all she could do was give out a brittle smile before opening mouth.
Her savior comes from behind when a voice calls out.
"Penny! You can't just ask that!" Ciel Soleil called out embarrassed before cutting through the crowd of people to grab Penny's arm. "I'm sorry!" She finishes with a bow towards them as she drags Penny deeper into the hall.
"Thanks guys." Ruby breathed a sigh of relief as she handed them pens to sign on the registration sheet.
"We didn't do much." Pyrrha giggled as she signed her signature before Jaune elbowed her.
"Hey, you're the one who asked to help Ciel earlier so you did do something." Jaune winked at her as he signed his own name.
"If we are going with that then you are the one who actually helped her." Pyrrha smiled.
"Help her with what?" Blake asked with a tilt of her head and Jaune only smiled at her.
"Oh nothing, Ciel just got tangled with Ren earlier and Nora got jealous."
Blake huffed at them and looked knowingly at Jaune. "Seems like there's a lot of boyfriends getting tangled with women who are not their girlfriends tonight."
The crowd around them gasped and Blake, Jaune, and Pyrrha widened their eyes in shock as Ruby flicked her eyes nervously between them at the reminder they were not alone.
Taken out of context, Blake's words could be seen as a provocation. An attack at Pyrrha who was currently clinging to her boyfriend.
Pyrrha winced as she could already see the headlines starting to write themselves: Pyrrha Nikos, involved in a Love Triangle?!
The next thing they know, journalists would be asking questions and it wouldn't be long before they find out the truth which is equally if not more scandalous than just being in a love triangle.
It was a time bomb waiting to happen and they've landed themselves right in the middle of it.
Pyrrha took a deep breath before taking a page out of Jaune's book whenever he was being interrogated by a figure of authority. Bluffing.
"Whatever do you mean by that, Blake?" She asked with a stiff smile on her face.
She winced internally as the crowd oohed at her response. Okay, she admits that might have been a bit catty and yes, the irony is not lost on her that she was unwittingly being catty towards Blake who was a Cat Faunus.
Still, it gave Blake time to calm down from the shock and allowed her to answer appropriately.
"You see Jaune here just had Cinder Fall cling to him earlier on the way here."
.
Pyrrha blinked at that.
Okay, she did not expect that. She expected Blake to play with her, not tell her a hussy clung to Jaune.
She looked incredulously at Jaune who only nodded sheepishly while rubbing the back of his head.
"What."
A-a-a-a-a woman clinging to Jaune?! She might be sounding like a hypocrite right now considering their arrangement and her willingness to involve their friends but Cinder Fall was a stranger!
Who even was she?!
She was an unknown!
Who knows what dastardly plots she had for her boyfriend?! At least Team RWBY were people she trusted to share Jaune with if they were up for it!
"Jaune!" She fumed as Jaune immediately put his hands up defensively.
"I didn't do anything!"
"You did do something with your Semblance though." Blake quipped with a grin on her face.
"Your Semblance, Jaune?! What did you do?!" She snapped towards Jaune with a furrow on her brow.
Memories of the power and sensation she felt the last time she experienced his Semblance back when they fought Roman Torchwick ran through her mind. It was good. It was exhilarating.
And this Cinder Fall just experienced it out of nowhere?!
She would have to talk to him about interacting with hussies!
Blake however only laughed as Jaune blushed brightly in front of her.
"Thank you, Pyrrha, but you don't need to worry. I tested him with Yang. He's loyal." Blake winked at her and Pyrrha only gawked.
Yang? Blake tested Jaune with Yang? Did that mean Yang flirted with Jaune? Does this mean…Yang could also be interested in Jaune?
Thoughts and plans ran through Pyrrha's mind.
She didn't think Yang would be receptive to acts like that so soon. Not when she had a violent reaction when she found out Pyrrha was trying to invite Ruby into the harem.
When it came down to it, Pyrrha thought Yang would be the harder one to win over even than Weiss by virtue of her protectiveness over Ruby. At least Weiss was beginning to see Jaune's positive points even if she was focused on the wrong man.
Yang….well, it was certainly a surprise to hear her be open to flirting with Jaune but Pyrrha wasn't the only one surprised.
"You tested him with my sister?!" Ruby gasped at Blake before turning to Jaune. "And you didn't fail?!"
"Give me some credit, Ruby. I'm loyal." Jaune grumbled with a pout, complete with crossing his arms childishly getting Pyrrha laugh.
"He is." She says, smiling towards him gently.
"Right, so make sure to save me a dance back there okay?" Blake winked, nudging them both towards the dance floor while giving Jaune a gentle squeeze.
"Of course, Blake. And thank you." She says, grabbing her arm and looking at her meaningfully before smiling as the crowd gawked at them.
Mission Accomplished.
There would be no headlines about her and love triangles tonight. Not when all people would see Jaune's girlfriend amicably trusting her to have a dance with her boyfriend.
"That was close." Jaune sighed in relief and Pyrrha felt him relax even as people started to whisper about them.
She elbowed him gently before raising an eyebrow.
"Cinder Fall, huh?"
"Trust me, Pyrrha. I only helped her to stop her from falling."
"Why was she falling in the first place?"
"I…" Jaune started but mumbled the rest while looking away from her.
Pyrrha frowned at that and she had to pinch his side just to get him to look at her again.
"Ow! Did you really have to do that?!"
"Jaune…did you do something to her?"
"Not knowingly!" He whisper-yelled as he led her to the side to get some privacy near the punchbowl.
"What did you do, Jaune?" She asked as he looked around them and seeing no one was near, he leaned in and whispered.
"Look….I may or may not have made her cum with my Semblance."
"You-mmph?!"
"Sshhhh!" Jaune shushed her and Pyrrha blushed as she noticed stares aimed at them.
"What do you mean you made her cum?" She whispered softly as she pulled down his hand covering her mouth.
"Look, that's what Blake was talking about earlier and when we tested it with Yang-"
"Yang?!" Pyrrha interrupted, only to hear a voice behind her.
"Sup? I heard my name." Yang approached them and Pyrrha almost screeched at the surprise and only Jaune pulling her immediately to his side has her gasping instead. "Now that's what I call an overreaction. What's happening?" Yang asked as she raised an eyebrow.
"Sorry, you just surprised us. Where have you been?" Jaune smiled shakily.
"With the DJ." Yang answered and right on time, the music started.
Drum beats started to pick up speed and Pyrrha could hear people beginning to cheer as the lights slowly darkened before suddenly a voice cut through the speakers.
"LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!"
"Is that Sun?!" Jaune exclaimed with wide eyes as colorful lights suddenly illuminated the dance floor..
"Yup! I remember you two had a party at Junior's club and I managed to convince him to jumpstart this one!" Yang replied with a large grin.
Pyrrha could remember that party. It's the party that let her sleep with both Jaune and Blake the first time after all.
"Speaking of which, why aren't you two dancing?" Yang laughed.
Dancing. Now that sounds like a grand idea but Pyrrha had questions that needed answering.
"Did you cum with Jaune's Semblance?"
"Pyrrha?!" Jaune screamed but it was drowned out by the noise of more people coming to the party.
"I-wow, what?!" Yang blushed but Pyrrha pushed.
"You tested it earlier. How did it feel like for you?"
"He told you?" Yang asked incredulously while looking at Jaune who only shook his head.
"Blake did."
Yang sighed at that while pinching her nose.
"Right, alright. And no, I didn't cum-"
"Would you want to?"
She didn't know what came over her but Pyrrha interrupted and she had the pleasure to see Yang immediately lock eyes with Jaune as they both blushed.
At that moment, Pyrrha felt flushed, inflamed, and she felt hot. Yes, she did want to build Jaune a harem but even she did not expect herself to be this passionate about it.
It was one thing to tease Ruby and Weiss about it. It was wholly different to just put it out to Yang out there while in public and in front of Jaune no less.
It was arousing.
Yet this was not the time.
Let it not be said Pyrrha Nikos did not know how to capitalize on opportunities however and while she wasn't planning anything involving Yang tonight, she planted the seeds for future investments.
"Think about it and talk to me if you want it." She winked, leaving Yang to gawk as she dragged Jaune to the dance floor.
"Pyrrha, what?!" Jaune asked firmly as he pulled her hand to get them to stop before they could even fully join the crowd.
"I promise Jaune, we'll talk about it later but right now there's something else we need to do." She smiled and anyone watching closely could see it wasn't just any smile.
It was a smile of invitation as she stretched out a hand, cocked her hips, and put her leg out. "Wanna dance, partner?"
Pleasure shot up her spine as she saw Jaune gulp as he looked at her from head to toe.
"With pleasure." He answers hoarsely and her smile turns bright and genuine when he takes her hand into his.
She couldn't resist however when he pulled her close to him as they joined the mass of people on the dance floor. She leaned up so her mouth was near his ears as she whispered softly. "By the way, you're going to try and make me cum with your Semblance tonight."
She smirked as he stumbled but laughter came out of her mouth as he pulled her passionately for a dance.
Jaune's heart beat loudly in his chest as he led Pyrrha through the dance floor.
While the dance started like a club party, the songs eventually transitioned to ones that actually needed dancing skills instead of just gyrating to a rhythm.
It just so happened that with seven sisters and a very energetic mother, Jaune was forced to learn almost all types of dance.
While he was initially reluctant to learn them as any young boy is when told to do something, he was never more thankful for learning them than now however.
A twist here, a turn there, a bit of push and pull to gather momentum, then a flashy twirl ending in a dip before a quick change in the beat has him pulling Pyrrha close to him again.
He gasped as her soft chest made contact with him before smiling to himself as she gasped when he trailed a finger on her firm back.
Pyrrha smirked at him and he only smiled back before she was already stepping away to create some distance that Jaune had to pull her back snappily.
He laughed as he twirled Pyrrha past him, her grace and instincts served her well as they moved in tune with the music.
He didn't know how long they were dancing but he could already feel the jealous stares he was getting from about half the boys here.
He tightened his hold on her hips as he turned and dipped Pyrrha towards the floor only to pull her quickly into a finishing pose as the music climaxed.
The world slowed and their breaths heatedly wafted towards each other as they lingered with their eyes locked together.
"You look amazing."
The words left his mouth before he could even think about it and he finds himself not regretting them doing so even if they were in public.
Consequences be damned but Pyrrha was just so beautiful that no one would fault him for complimenting her, right?!
Her red hair trailed behind her like fire trailing a comet. Her smooth skin glistened with light sweat and Jaune could already smell her scent filling his nose.
It was heady, intoxicating, alluring, and if Jaune didn't put some distance between them soon, he was bound to do more than just dance with her.
He was going to kiss her.
"Thank you, Jaune. You look good as well."
Jaune jolted at that and he grunted in effort as he pulled them back to stand up and sway slowly together.
"Not as good as you, though." He smiled as he looked at her up and down.
Damn, he really was a lucky man.
"Even if that were true, you compensate for being a wonderful dancer." Pyrrha laughed as they swayed slowly to the start of another song.
Jaune couldn't help but puff his chest out at that with a proud smile.
"Seven sisters, remember? They taught me everything together with my mom."
Pyrrha laughed before a mischievous glint entered her eyes.
"I don't think they taught you something like this though."
And just like that, the atmosphere between them heated up.
He blushed as Pyrrha suddenly turned around to slowly brush him with her backside. He couldn't help but hold her hips with his hands.
"Careful, Jaune. Your girlfriend is watching." She smirked, albeit with a blush, as she noticed the reaction she got from him.
Pyrrha was…..different than what he thought. It wasn't bad but it was surprising from what he knew of her. He expected her to be bright and fun and she was but there was more. She was passionate, teasing, and….flirty.
"Pyrrha." He growled as he suddenly felt her push back further into him.
"What would your girlfriend say, Jaune if she sees us like this?" She whispered sensually as she leaned back towards him, her back to his chest and her ass to his groin.
They were approaching dangerous territory.
He gulped as her hands suddenly traveled upward to snake around his neck and his hands couldn't help but rub over her belly.
Forget approaching dangerous territory. They were already in it and Jaune just knew people were probably going to be talking about this.
"We need to stop." He warned reluctantly as he enjoyed the feeling of his partner's body against his.
Pyrrha moaned and Jaune felt himself tent under his pants when she leaned upwards to pleasantly whisper two words against him. "I can't."
Blue eyes meet green and Jaune suddenly understood why his mother used to warn him not to look in your partner's eyes when you were dancing passionately.
He leaned do-
"Hey there."
Jaune released a breath as he felt another body collide with his back. If people were probably talking about him and Pyrrha earlier, then they were definitely going to talk about this now.
"Having fun?" Blake called out over his shoulder as she pressed her chance against him and Jaune couldn't help but feel his heart beat faster.
There he was, dorky Jaune Arc, trapped in between two wonderful ladies. They swayed together, all three of them, right in the middle of the dance floor.
"Too much fun." He smiled at her and she only laughed as she pulled his hands away from Pyrrha.
"You could have waited a few more seconds." Pyrrha whined with a pout, turning around the both of them before pushing herself to hug Jaune from the front.
He choked in embarrassment as he suddenly felt glares aimed at him but his ladies just laughed as they sandwiched him between them.
"Sorry, Pyrrha. It's my turn now. People are starting to talk." Blake giggled before flicking her eyes around them.
Pyrrha sighed resignedly before pushing off of him and stepping away. "I suppose I must go now."
"You could always wait with Ruby before we switch later. I think she just got off foisting Penny to Yang." Blake nodded at Ruby's direction near the now iconic punch bowl.
"I guess I will. See you later, Blake, Jaune." Pyrrha laughed before leaving past him while trailing her hands over his.
Jaune could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
"Pyrrha must have worked you up, huh?" Blake whispered as he turned towards her with a smile on his face.
"Oh, you have no idea." Jaune smirked as he heard gasp when he pushed his tent towards her.
"Oh, wow." Blake shivered and Jaune laughed as they grinded against each other. "You need to use that on me tonight." Blake whispered, encouraging Jaune to hold her tighter.
"Believe me, I will." He whispered with a growl as he leaned towards her bow.
He gasped however when he felt her discreetly run her hand over his crotch. "Promises, promises, Jaune." She smirked and what else could Jaune do other than rise to the challenge?
He grabbed her ass and watchers be damned, squeezed as much as he could.
"Meooo~w."
"Meooo~w."
Pyrrha froze just as she managed to reach the punch bowl where Ruby was at when the moan cut through the air.
She knew that moan.
Her eyes snapped to Blake and while she didn't have a clear view of them in the middle of the crowd, she saw just enough to assess the situation.
She giggled as she saw Jaune cupping what Pyrrha could only assume was Blake's ass.
Pyrrha just knew both her boyfriend and girlfriend were blushing.
She giggled again as she heard Ruby squeak beside her.
"What are they doing out there?!" She hissed nervously and Pyrrha bumped her friend gently with a laugh.
"Do you really want to know?" She waggled her eyebrows just for good measure before getting a cup and taking a sip of the punch.
It was fruity, strong, and tasted of peach and strawberries in a way that Pyrrha liked
Heat rushed through her face however as she saw Ruby blush and aim a pout at her.
"Pyrrhaaaa, you promised not to do that anymore!"
"Promise what? Seduce you into our harem?" She winked while leaning forward and she laughed loudly as she took another sip of the punch.
"Yes, that! Jaune is just my best friend!" Ruby exclaimed and they were lucky the music was so loud and most of the people were focused on the dance where Jaune and Blake started dancing.
"Well, I'm not. I'm just asking a question, that's all." She laughed as Ruby's eyes widened in realization before blushing adorably.
The atmosphere must be getting to her because Pyrrha only put an arm over Ruby's shoulders while leaning towards her.
"There's no reason why he couldn't be both your boyfriend and best friend, you know?" She whispered happily and laughed once again when she heard Ruby squeak.
"I-I-I mean there's no reason to be his boyfriend either." Ruby pointed out and Pyrrha pouted at her before taking another sip of her punch only to find her cup empty.
She did not like that one bit.
"There's a lot of reasons why he could be your boyfriend." She thought loudly as she removed herself from Ruby to find the punch bowl and refill her cup. "He's handsome, kind, caring, brave, and getting stronger everyday." Pyrrha enumerated as she successfully found the punch bowl before her thoughts turned to another direction. "He also has a big di-mmphp!"
"Alright, alright! You've made your point!" Ruby interrupted as she immediately covered Pyrrha's mouth with both hands.
Rude.
It would be a simple matter for her to pull Ruby's hands down but she was still busy refilling her cup. Thinking better about it, she decides to fill one for Ruby too.
Pyrrha only nodded as Ruby started to say her thoughts.
"I mean, I know Jaune is a wonderful guy, it's just that…a relationship is not what I'm looking for, you know? I want to be a Huntress."
Pushing the cup towards the smaller girl, Pyrrha successfully gets her to release Ruby's hold on her mouth.
"Do you think Blake and I don't want to be Huntresses then?" She asked with a small frown on her face while taking a sip of her cup and Ruby immediately shook her in panic.
"No, no! I know you want to be Huntresses! It's just that….I'm not sure that kind of thing is for me." Ruby mumbled and Pyrrha's eyes narrowed at her words.
"Romance? Love?" She tilted her head as Ruby only nodded before sighing loudly.
"Yeah, you know I always wanted to be a Huntress. It made me think I'd be a lot closer to my mom if I became a hero just like her."
"And?" Pyrrha hummed as she contemplated Ruby's words. None of those were any reason why romance could not be involved in her friend's life.
Ruby only shrugged with a sad smile.
"I guess all I saw for my future because of that is me fighting Grimm, saving villages, and being a badass Huntress. I don't see myself settling down with that kind of lifestyle."
"And why is that?"
Pyrrha saw Ruby's face make a complicated expression at that question before shaking her head and drinking her own cup in one go.
Pyrrha sighed at the dismissal and she was just about to take a sip of her own when Ruby suddenly spoke.
"Because my mom left and never came back."
And just like that, the words rang in her ears.
Pyrrha gasped as her hand immediately patted Ruby's shoulder comfortingly.
"Ruby, you don't-"
"No, no. I think I need to say this. Did you know when I think of the word mom I sometimes see Yang's face?" Ruby asked as Pyrrha stayed silent beside her friend. "I was only three when my mom died and I don't have many memories of her other than her singing lullabies to us and baking us cookies but even then….I remember how bad it was when we realized she was never coming back."
"I see." Pyrrha contemplated the words before sighing resignedly.
"Dad and Yang were hit the worst. While it took me a while to realize the truth, they both knew immediately. After that, dad broke down and Yang had to step up until Uncle Qrow came to take care of us."
"That's why you don't see yourself settling down." Pyrrha sighed as she looked sadly at her friend.
Ruby nodded before turning around to refill her own cup with some punch. "Yeah, can you imagine having to choose between people who needed to be saved at cost of your own life or saving your own life at the cost of others to return to your family?"
Cold fear gripped Pyrrha's heart as she imagined herself being in such a situation. She had to take a sip of her punch just to warm her up before shaking the fear off of her head.
The question made her head buzz however as she tried to think of an answer to it.
Did she have it in her to choose the right thing in such a situation? What even was the right thing? And suddenly a lot of things started making sense inside Pyrrha's head.
Ruby however only shook her head as she answered her own question.
"I don't know if I could choose in that situation but I'm sure I wouldn't want anyone experiencing the same thing I did, so…I'm taking one choice out entirely."
And leave only one choice, were the words unsaid.
This explains a lot of things.
Ruby's sense of heroism? Her innate goodness and desire to honor and be closer to her mother has her pushing herself to be as heroic as she can.
Her reluctance to have a romantic relationship? It's not just because of shyness or her young age but also because of deep-seated trauma from losing her mom at a young age in this profession.
Pyrrha frowned at that however.
If Ruby did not want it then Ruby did not want it. Yet she did not say she did not want it but more than that….Ruby was setting herself up for death.
"Do you want it though?" Pyrrha asked tentatively, her brows scrunched in worry.
"What?"
"Do you want a family?"
"Pyrrha, did you not hear me?" Ruby frowned but Pyrrha only shook her head.
"I did, but you never said you didn't want a family. But before you answer that, I want you to think about some things. Are you listening?"
Ruby nodded slowly and as green eyes met silver, Pyrrha opened her mouth.
"Do you think your mom regrets having you?"
Ruby's eyes widened but Pyrrha was not done yet.
"Do you think she regrets loving your dad? How about taking care of both you and Yang? Do you think she wasn't happy when she was with her family?"
"I…" Ruby started to answer before gulping as she contemplated Pyrrha's words.
Pyrrha stayed silent however, letting Ruby reach her own answer and eventually….tears gathered on Ruby's eyes.
"No…..No, she was happy but…." Ruby starts to answer but she stops as a sob escapes her throat.
Pyrrha's hands immediately move on their own. She grabs Ruby's cup and both their cups lie forgotten on the table beside them as she instantly pulls Ruby in a hug.
"It hurts, Pyrrha. It hurt when she chose others instead of coming back to us." Ruby cried as she returned Pyrrha's embrace but Pyrrha winced as she saw others start to turn towards the sound.
Thinking quickly on her feet, she pulls Ruby with her to hide behind the punch bowl for more privacy.
"Hush, Ruby. It's okay. It's okay." Pyrrha whispers comfortingly and her dress might have been wet with tears but the comfort of her friend was more important than her dress.
Muffled sobs vibrate through her body and it was either a blessing or a curse that Yang didn't manage to find them yet to help Ruby or punch Pyrrha for making her sister cry.
Regardless, Pyrrha was the one here and she was getting desperate. "It's okay, Ruby. It's okay." Another round of sobs echo through her and Pyrrha cringes as she immediately resorts to what her mother does when she cries.
She sings.
Or in Pyrrha's case, hums a lullaby.
It took a while but Ruby eventually managed to calm down enough to pull away from Pyrrha.
Pyrrha cringed as she saw her friend's wet face. This was not her intention. Not in the slightest.
"I'm sorry." She mutters quietly as she rubs Ruby's hair comfortingly
"That bad, huh?" Ruby chuckled resignedly as she rubbed her eyes and Pyrrha immediately shook her head.
"No, no! You look beautiful, Ruby!"
"You don't have to lie to me." Ruby looked away but Pyrrha instantly grabbed her shoulders at that.
"I'm not lying, Ruby. You are beautiful and I'm sorry I made you cry."
"...Thanks, Pyrrha." Ruby mutters, still looking away from her.
Pyrrha sighed at that before removing her hands from Ruby.
"Look, Ruby. I'm sorry if I pushed you that hard-"
"You didn't…I just…I just felt like saying it, you know?" Ruby interrupted but Pyrrha shook her head.
"No, you only felt like that because I asked you some questions and I'm sorry. It wasn't my intention to make you cry but…"
"But?" Ruby frowned suspiciously at her and Pyrrha had to take a deep breath before answering.
"I promise not to leave you."
"...What?" Ruby blinked.
"Whether as a friend or something more-"
"Oh, come on. This again, Pyrrha?" Ruby groaned exasperatedly and Pyrrha had to chuckle embarrassedly before clearing her throat to continue.
"Look, Ruby. What I'm saying is whether as friends or something more-
"Friends."
"-I won't leave you and I don't think Jaune or Blake will leave you either."
"You can't promise that, Pyrrha." Ruby crossed her arms and grumbled as she looked up at her.
"I can and I do. I don't know what the future holds and whether we have f-families or not but I promise I will always be with you and I will cherish our memories together." Pyrrha however only nodded firmly before blushing as she finished her sentence. "Besides, you never said you didn't want a family. What better family could there be than a family of badass Huntsman and Huntresses?"
Both girls stayed silently before Ruby slowly shook her head in amazement at her.
"You're something else, Pyrrha."
"I won't push you if you really don't want it but I notice that that is not a no." She smiled, causing Ruby to roll her eyes exasperatedly.
"It's not a yes either. Does Jaune even know-"
"Know what?"
"-what you're…trying….to….do?" Ruby finished slowly as both she and Pyrrha slowly looked to the side and there he was.
Jaune Arc, standing across the table where the punch bowl was together with Blake Belladonna.
"What did we miss?"
Jaune tilted his head as he assessed his girlfriend and best friend behind the punch bowl. Eyes flicked toward their faces and then their dresses and he eventually connected the dots.
"Ruby, were you crying?" He asked worriedly only to receive a desperate shaking of her head.
"N-No! I was-"
"Yes, she was. You need to take her for a dance." Pyrrha interrupted, taking Ruby's hand and dragging her towards them.
"What?" Jaune frowned as he saw the tear stains on Pyrrha's dress.
"You, Ruby, dance now." Pyrrha answered as she pushed Ruby into his arms, causing his best friend to squeak.
"I-I can't dance!"
"Ruby, we've seen you fight gracefully with a scythe bigger than you. Trust me, you can dance." Blake added as Jaune saw her taking two cups and filling it with punch.
"You don't understand! It's these lady hilts!" Ruby answers embarrassedly as she pulls away from Jaune to show her feet.
Jaune laughed as he took one of the cups from Blake. "Is that why you were crying? Because you couldn't dance?"
Was it childish? A bit, yes, but Jaune could still remember his younger sister Violet crying horribly because she couldn't dance with him and their sisters. Ruby was most likely experiencing something similar.
Pyrrha's glowing face was agreement enough. "Yes! That is exactly it!" Pyrrha shouted excitedly, getting everyone's attention around them.
"No, it is not!" Ruby countered with a red face but Jaune only laughed lightly.
His best friend must have vented out her frustrations on his girlfriend and now that they were here, she was embarrassed about it.
"It's okay, Ruby. There's no shame in admitting it. We wouldn't leave you here alone just because you couldn't dance. Here, let me teach you." Jaune offered, stretching his hand as he took a sip of his cup with the other.
He hummed however as he felt the familiar taste on his lips. It was fruity, crisp, and it had a sharp smell that reminded him of-
"Oof!" He grunted as Pyrrha shoved Ruby towards him again.
"She says yes!"
"N-No, I don't!" Ruby denied, as her head pushed against his chest.
Was she always this small?
His free hand automatically found itself ghosting her back as he returned his cup to Blake while frowning at Pyrrha. "Pyrrha, it's not nice to push your friends."
"Sorry, Jaune. I was just too excited." Pyrrha cringed and his smile softened before nodding towards Ruby.
"It's not me you have to apologize to."
Ruby's eyes widened before she turned towards Pyrrha while still leaning against him.
Pyrrha nodded at him with wide eyes before meeting Ruby's gaze.
"I'm sorry, Ruby. I was just too excited but I really think you should try with Jaune."
Okay, weird emphasis with the word try but it was a sincere apology enough. He grinned as his best friend and girlfriend regarded each other before he looked down at Ruby.
"What do you think, Ruby?"
She only looked at him with wide eyes before clearing her throat
"Do you know what…."
Her words trailed off as a blush began to overtake her face.
She must be embarrassed but it was no big deal, Jaune could infer what she meant.
"Do I know what I'm doing? Of course! Didn't you see me dance with Pyrrha and Blake?" He smiled as she nodded.
"Right…Dance…yeah."
He laughed as she gulped. Yeah, she was nervous alright.
"Don't worry, Rubes. I'll be teaching you the ropes. Trust me when I say this, you are going to have a good time."
"Ropes….good time….right." Her face only glowed brighter.
Hmmm, must be her nerves. Quickly deciding to himself, he pulls her straight to the dance floor before she could even back out.
She screamed in surprise but Jaune only laughed as he held her tightly against him.
"I've got you, don't worry." He whispers down at her and he smiles when she stops screaming.
"R-Right, you've got me."
He grinned however as he tightened his muscles. "Now, come on! Let's dance!"
"Wait, what?!" Ruby screamed again as he pulled her into a twirl.
Blake watched with a smile on her face as she saw Jaune pull Ruby for a dance.
This was good. This should pull the attention away from her and Pyrrha dancing with Jaune earlier.
With him dancing with other girls, it was now a lot more probable for the masses to think Jaune dancing with Pyrrha was just him being friendly.
She took a glance at her girlfriend and laughed as she saw her smiling brightly at Jaune and Ruby.
"Do you think it was intentional?" She asked with a smile on her face and Pyrrha immediately grinned as they locked eyes with each other.
"The innuendos? No. We both know Jaune is just that dense." Pyrrha shook her head as they laughed together.
Blake shook her head in mirth as she handed Jaune's cup towards Pyrrha for her to take. Clinking their cups together before taking a sip, Blake's eyes immediately widened as she identified the taste.
No, it wasn't just the taste. It was the slight burn on the back of her throat that clued her in.
"Pyrrha, this is alcohol."
Her eyes widened however when she saw the redhead immediately downing the whole cup.
"What?" She asked incredulously, finally getting Pyrrha's attention.
"Hmm? Did you say something, Blake?"
"This has alcohol in it. Why did you drink it in one go?" She answered while seeing Pyrrha's cheeks start to go red.
"I mean…Jaune drank from it?" Pyrrha shrugged with a nervous laugh, making Blake shake her head.
"How many have you had?"
"Two, three?" Pyrrha scrunched her brow as she answered.
Blake breathed a sigh of relief at that. Okay that was good. Judging by how Pyrrha was looking, she was just buzzed while not being drunk.
She froze however when she remembered Pyrrha wasn't the only one here earlier.
"How many did Ruby have?" She asked immediately.
"Uhm, one? But she didn't finish it I think."
Huh, that wasn't so bad.
Turning to her leader, she sees her laugher and yelling at Jaune as he taught her how to dance. At least she was having a good time.
Clack! Clack! Clack!
Her ears twitch as she hears the sound even with the music on. Turning to the source, she sees Weiss stomping towards the corner near them.
She doesn't seem to have noticed them however and it only took Blake one glance to realize why.
Weiss Schnee was crying.
:)
Did you like it?
