FATE/Blood
Fate/Stay Night x Bloodborne Crossover.
Chapter 1: By Iron and Blood
It all started one night, a young boy named Shirou Emiya stayed late to help out with the maintenance of the Archery Club, he stayed a bit later than usual, that is until he began to hear a strange sound, a rapid banging of metal on metal sound.
Curious he slowly made his way towards the cacophony of sounds.
A man dressed in red was fighting with a sword against a man in blue who held a crimson colored spear.
They exchanged blows at speeds that could only be called INHUMAN.
Noticing that if found he would be taken care of he decided to flee, however, to his luck, there was a VERY DRY branch, which cracked like no one's business.
The man with the spear looked towards the source of the sound "WHO IS THERE?!" he yelled, and without waiting for an answer began to search for the interloper.
Shirou trying to avoid the man in blue. Only when he felt that enough distance had been done between them he decided to take a breather.
Only to find it hard to do so
Then he looked below.
"Oh… that's why…" he muttered.
There was a spear in his heart.
Then the man in blue appeared as if he was a ghost.
"Sorry kid, it's nothing personal, but the rules state that there just be no witnesses, curse me if you must, or curse your own bad luck." The man in blue said as he really looked remorseful at this action he had to take.
As the boy fell to the floor the man in blue looked in anger and annoyance, he was a hero… not a murderer.
He then left the scene.
Normally a young girl dressed I'm red and with twin tails would come, however this particular scene would not happen, or rather COULD NOT, after all… the dead body…was no longer there.
The only thing left was a pool of blood.
-line break-
Emiya Shirou woke up… he was strapped into what seemed like a gurney. Probably in a hospital of sorts, he understood the restraints, anyone who went through a traumatic experience like that would frank out and become detrimental to itself AND others due to panic and fear.
However he saw the place looked much… darker than a hospital should.
He was in a gurney and a man with bandaged eyes spoke to him, his voice raspy, he was an old man in a wheelchair.
"Oh, yes... Paleblood... Well, you've come to the right place. Yharnam is the home of blood ministration. You need only unravel its mystery. You suffer. Your loved ones suffer. It's like a curse. But there is hope for you yet. The blood used in ministration, the trade of Yharnam, is a special thing indeed... The only thing that can cure your sickness...Well then, let's draw you up a contract shall we?" he said.
Shirou couldn't understand, what was this? Was this a dream created by my ailing brain now that I was dying? Was this just a figment of his imagination?
Since this was obviously a dream created by his subconscious... He decided to accept.
He felt a cold grip on his spine.
Something was wrong, VERY wrong.
"Good. All signed and sealed. Now, let's begin the transfusion. Oh, don't you worry. Whatever happens... you may think it all a mere bad dream..." The man said with a dry chuckle as he hooked him up to a (thankfully) clean IV needle as the blood flowed from the bottle towards me.
Fire... it felt like fire in his veins. As if his circuits had been fully open.
Shirou began to shiver and foam from the mouth... He tried to get up... but his arms and legs were tied up to the gurney.
It was then when a skinless canine looking monster began to crawl its way up from a puddle of... was that blood?!...
Is... this a dream?
As the dog-like creature stalked closer and extended its grotesque front legs... as if asking to join it... And then, it suddenly started to combust.
This can't be a dream... no.
This can only be called nothing less than a nightmare
The smell of flesh burning on fire... the smell of blood.
Familiar scents he wanted to forget, scents he couldn't forget.
Then he saw small white creatures in his chest, grotesque little things, he couldn't move at all, not even an inch... they were by his head now too. He closed his eyes.
A gentle and soothing female voice spoke "Ah, you found yourselves a hunter"
With that, he closed his eyes to the horror.
-LineBreak-
I appeared in what seems like a cottage of sorts.
The whole area has a western gothic architecture
There was many white flowers growing, and a person was resting on the wall.
"Are you alright?" Shirou asked as he touched the person, only…
"A puppet?" He said as he took in it's features, too beautiful to be human, too flawless yet he could feel the care and love on its craftsmanship.
A sudden and sharp wave of pain surged at him.
The image of a red spear… a pair of dual blades…
"W…what?" He asked himself as he found purchase on the wall.
It was sudden and then he remembered what happened.
He touched his chest, finding it with no wounds.
He looked around "what is going on?" He asked himself out loud.
Staying where he was would be the safest, however nothing would change and thus decided to investigate the cottage up the stairs.
As he walked up he saw the small white creatures raised from the ground, it seemed like they were offering him… weapons?
All of the weapons were vicious-looking.
A sharp wave of pain once more manifested.
It felt like tv static… the slowly the images began to form.
He was shocked… somehow… he understood these weapons design and even history.
What they were used AGAINST.
Shirou gave a single step back in horror.
"No…this… how can something like this…?"
Bloodthirsty monsters, attacking people and killing them, and the people who bravely fought against them…
These were the weapons of hunters that had passed on, now looking for worthy user to combat the scourge.
The hunters who owned these weapons got overwhelmed, they were just a bit better than novices with some experience, yet held in their hearts the desire to serve and protect the people of this land.
They fought to their last. Gruesome end.
This land, wherever he was, he would NEED to arm himself.
He grabbed the one closest to him, the saw cleaver.
As he walked about he saw a tool bench and many half made weapons and some strange gems, he found a few books that actually helped inform him about his current situation a bit better.
He sighed after closing the journal.
"I am in a different world" Shirou said, in equal measures of numbness and shock.
He was sure he had died. The fact that he was alive AND in another world told him quite a lot.
In order to do things that deny providence and the natural order would take something more than what he, a failure of a magus, could do.
Sorcery, true magic.
He knew he had no such ability, if he had his father would have told him.
So some being had to, but who?
In the end…did it matter?
All he could do now was continue and walk forward, discover a way to go back if possible.
Shirou clicked the hidden button and the saw cleaver extended itself.
Doing some testing swings to get used to the weapon in both modes until he was fairly familiar with it. He walked around and saw no way to exit this place, that is until he noticed a gravestone..
That in a macabre way had HIS name.
Shirou got closer and touched it… then he saw words appear in his mind's eye.
"Clinic"
He sexted it and felt his body become lighter and then vanished.
He opened his eyes a second later and was back where he started, only this time with his newly acquired weapon.
He reinforced his senses as it was too dark and saw a large figure stalking about a few rooms further down. The scratching sounds gave away that it was an animal… and from the sounds of it none too friendly.
From what he gathered from the weapons almost everything and everyone will try to kill him, so he had to be relentless and attack to kill first.
He steeled himself. He had to go back.
As soon as the animal appeared by the door frame he extended the weapon and slashed at the beast, surprising it and launching it back.
The monstrous animal howled in both pain and rage, however Shirou rather than backpedal charged once more and slashed the creature as it gave a howl of pain in the throes of death.
He then felt something odd… something from the beast had flowed INTO him.
As he exited the clinic he noticed this world was in disarray. Coaches had been strewn about making make-shift barricades, many coffins strewn about as well and blood.
There were haggard looking men with torches and farming implements as weapons.
Thanks to his reinforcement he could see that they looked gone, they were becoming animalistic, not unlike a lycanthrope, their eyes yellow and foaming as if they have rabies.
He quickly dispatched the few who were around once he felt the area was secure he began to hyperventilate.
He had killed.
True, those people were far gone but still…
He blamed his own inadequacy… had he been able to learn magecraft perhaps he could have done something.
Something then got his attention. It was something shining. He picked it up, it was a package with 3 white pills.
"I should save them for later, maybe I will find someone who is not so far gone who can tell me what they are." He said.
He continued to attack the others as he continued to explore the area more. He found some locked gates and thus had to backtrack to find an alternate route.
It was when he encountered a new type of enemy.
It was something that looked like a mutated crow, the size of a grown man. It damaged him quite a lot.
Seeing his injuries and in pain he grew furious and attacked with reckless abandonment…it was then when he noticed that his injuries had healed a bit.
"It seems like, if I get injured and counterattack within a window of time I am able to heal myself somewhat?" Shirou said to himself unable to truly digest this new ability he had. It seemed that when bathed in the blood of the opponents his injuries healed, however there was a time limit on how the ability is used.
Or maybe he always had it and never came to be due to not living in a world like the one he currently was? In a land where life was so easy to be lost.
He continued exploring and found a treasure chest that contained clothing, looking at it he felt the static come back as well as some pain.
It was armor of sorts, it would give better protection than the clothes he currently had.
While offense was good a good defense should never be overlooked, the winner was the one who was able to remain alive after all.
He changed his clothes, it was tight, but still allowed for maximum mobility.
He also found that this outfit could be reinforced without worry as it greedily drank into his OD strengthening it.
He continued attacking and being attacked… he was surprised he felt tired but with a shirt break retired himself to normal, stamina wise.
Something he found was a couple vials he held in his hand, he then saw a small lamp where the white creatures were and touched it.
He then felt a connection to it.
From it another journal came to be, it explained what the vial is, what it contained and what it did.
He decided to save it for later.
This armor was quite good, the blood did not stick to it like it did to his own original clothes. Also the attacks did less damage to him considering that he reinforced it it made sense, but didn't expect such increment.
He continued his travels where a single lapse of attention cost him very heavily, he was attacked by a pack of monster wolf like creatures, he managed to get them in a narrow passageway, he switched his weapon to a compact mode and began to attack the beasts that got stuck.
He gasped and decided to test the vial, he jammed into his leg and was astonished to see his own body mend itself before his very eyes.
He encountered another set of enemies, gigantic humanoids that had a walking cane and were not above using it to attack in brutal ways.
It slammed it's cane at Shirou's exposed chest and sent him flying to a wall.
He had to spend another vial as he felt that his rib had broken and pierced his lung.
He restored himself back to perfect health and continued to attack the enemies.
He found many gem-like stones with some geometric patterns and others that looked like, to his shock, solidified blood.
He then heard a howling sound that sent shivers down his body.
It was as if something deep inside him knew WHAT it was, and recognised it as DANGEROUS.
Still Shirou continued to explore the streets and fighting back and getting hurt and healing himself back. It was a vicious cycle but he learned much quickly how to fight with his weapon.
The entities in this city were human-like, he could even believe they could have been, at one point, human.
As he continued to slash and cut them he wondered how it all came to be?
After reaching a bit further he noted he found a few vials that seemed like molotov cocktails and urns that contained what seemed like oil.
The roars continued, it felt he was getting closer to it.. Or perhaps IT was getting closer to him.
He found a few skulls that he picked up… he put them in a bag he found and carried them to give them a place to rest once he found one for the poor souls.
It was eerie, this whole place, the scent of rotting bodies and blood…
Yet he did not feel like this was new.
In a way, he was right.
A cursed fire.
The lives it took.
His inability to do anything to save anyone.
He made a fist and shivered due to the pressure and then opened again, he took a deep calming breath.
He finally found out the source of the howling and roaring.
He walked towards a building from a bridge… when he heard the painful roar.
A monster that towered over Shirou… at least this monstrosity… ṫ̷̺ḣ̷̫ȉ̶̹s̶̖̎ ̴̯̽à̶̠f̷̑ͅf̸͎̔ṟ̶͐o̵̬͑n̴̩͒ṭ̶̿ ̸̻̿t̶͉̍o̸̞̾ ̶̗̒ń̵̰ã̶̯t̵̳͐ụ̷̃r̵͉̊e̶̯͘.
It was at least 26 feet tall… towering over Shirou.
Shirou took a step back.
That thing was n̷̩͛ó̶̡t̶̯͊ ̶̤͠n̸̨̕ã̵̼t̷̻̍ǘ̸̺ṙ̴͖a̴̜͘ľ̶̯.
It roared and jumped towards him.
He almost took too long but managed to roll out of the way.
He slashed at its hind legs making the beast howl in bigger agony.
Then, it happened. The beast reacted faster than he was expecting and slammed Shirou against the floor with its malformed huge appendage that was its frontal arm of sorts.
"GAHHH!" he yelled as blood flew from his mouth. His whole chest felt like it broke, he could taste blood and breathing was getting hard to do.
He rolled out of the way… he used one of the vials and jammed into his chest.. He felt some of his health come back as his body absorbed the liquid in the vial, his bones mended together, the blood returned to its proper place. It was a miraculous thing… unnatural even.
The beast's attack was easy to read, as Shirou continued to stay on its backside.
It was then that he decided to test the items he had found.
Throwing the oil urn, he drenched the monster you, and then, he threw the Molotov cocktail at it The monster was
The monster turned around quite a bit, but thankfully it was somewhat stupid.
He managed to throw a few more molotov cocktails and continued to hack at the monster.
The monster's attack was easy to read even to his untrained self, Shirou managed to learn the beast's habits. How it attacked. And this continued to hack at it until the beast finally staggered.
Shirou then rushed at it and gave a powerful jump. With his whole body twisting he used the added centrifugal force to enhance the power of his attack, finally slicing deep into the monster, which gave a final roar that was akin to a mix of sorrow and gratitude. As the monster feel blood sprouted from it's wounds and bathed Shirou.
His whole outfit was covered in viscera and blood… the body of the monster began to vanish in wisps of white fog.
Shirou dropped to his knees… he was emotionally tired.
He panted as the adrenaline of it all wore out.
His hands were shivering… he had no idea what came over him, he just killed what could be considered a phantasmal beast!
He laid on the ground to rest for a bit, as the area was now safe… at least for now.
He needed to catch his breath.
It was when he rolled to the side he noticed the lamp with the little white creatures clinging and coming from the ground.
He touched it lamp and was transported to the place called "The Hunters Dream"
His body vanishes as a white wisp only to reconstitute once more into that beautiful, yet eerie place.
"Hello, good hunter. I am a doll, here in this dream to look after you. Honorable hunter, pursue the echoes of blood and I will channel them into your strength. You will hunt beasts and I will be here for you, to embolden your sickly spirit." a female voice called out.
Shirou blinked when he saw where the voice came from.
"Wait… you are…" Shirou said as he saw that the doll he saw the first time was now moving and actually talking!
She gave a small curtsy "Good hunter, it is good you can finally interact with me, it seems you have acquired the insight to do so"
Shirou was taken back… what did she mean by that… and also…
"I am sorry, but what is your name?" he asked.
"Name? I am simply referred to as 'the Doll', you are also free to refer to me as such" the doll answered.
Shirou felt bad about it, but if that's what she decided for herself…
"Master Gerhman here wishes to speak to you, please head into the Hunter's Workshop and please, have this" she said as she pointed at the small creatures, called the messengers and handed him a beckoning bell.
Also… There was someone else here? And a sane one at that?
He walked up the stairway towards the cottage… Once he got inside Shirou saw a man wheelchair bound.
He moved to see Shirou
"Ah-hah, you must be the new hunter. Welcome to the Hunter's Dream. This will be your home, for now." he said
Shirou was taken back… what is this place, and Hunter? What is going on?" He asked, "Sorry I am Shirou Emiya, and you?"
"Oh… a polite young man? It has been quite some time, I am... Gehrman, friend to you hunters. You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it…" he said.
"What is this place?" Shirou asked.
"This was once a safe haven for hunters. A workshop where hunters used blood to enhance their weapons and flesh. We don't have as many tools as we once did, but... You're welcome to use whatever you find. ...Even the doll, should it please you…"
He felt a huge wave of discomfort about that last one.
Gerham then showed the workshop, he explained what they were for.
"You can fortify the weapons, but cannot insert blood gems on them, we had a tool , but it got lost with time…however fortification will strengthen your weapon even more, making stronger, sharper… also we have two bird baths that have bath messengers, the little white beings, they will sell you useful stuff in either blood echos or insight…" he explained.
Shirou did not understand, "What are those?" he asked.
Gerhman looked a bit gone… but he refocused his eyes and looked at Shirou "Blood Echoes are the echo of someone's will. Like a ghost is the lingering image of a person, Blood Echoes are the lingering presence of their will that stays long after the person has passed away… so the stronger the being you put down, the more of it has, and in turn you may use it to either strengthen yourself, your weapons or purchase items with it as it's a form of currency as well, insight is arcane knowledge it's inhuman knowledge that may drive you mad… but it is also a blessing, as knowledge is at times a man's greatest weapon, however, you may also spend it to relieve yourself of such knowledge"
Gerhman looked at him in detail "you seem to have quite a lot of insight in you boy.. In the meantime do strengthen your weapons and yourself… you will need it, if you wish to do it to your body ask the doll… she will help you"
Shirou had no option than to listen to the old man… if he wanted to survive and go home… we would need to be stronger.
After upgrading his cleaver saw, he could TELL the difference on how it was, and how it currently is.
He went down to where the Doll was as she greeted Shirou once more.
"Did you speak with Gehrman? He was a hunter long, long ago. But now serves only to advise them. He is obscure, unseen in the dreaming world. Still, he stays here, in this dream. Such is his purpose." she asked.
"Ah… yes, I did, he was somewhat informative" Shirou answered, still feeling awkward at talking to a now moving and living doll."He said you could help me become stronger?"
"Very well, let the echoes become your strength. Let me stand close, now shut your eyes" she said as she held Shirou's hand, he was shocked to feel warmth from her touch.
She then instructed on what parts he wishes to enhance… Vitality, the ability to resist damage, Endurance, how well you can resist physical fatigue, Strength, the ability to carry heavier things, some weapons will require your strength to be higher to be able to be used effectively, then Skill which has to do with nuanced attacks, certain weapons required a lot of skill to use and may increase their damage output due to it, Bloodtinge, an attribute that deals with weapons that uses your blood to attack or enhance itself with them, it also helps for firearms that use quicksilver bullets…and finally but not least, Arcane, it enhances weapons and abilities from Arcane Items and weapons"
Shirou gasped… if he increased his Arcane… would his magecraft also increase?
He would invest in it later, right now… he needed to increase his strength, skill, and endurance, followed by arcane.
Once he was done he felt a small change in his body.
The Doll then told him that they were done and Shirou thanked her for her services "Farewell, good hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world."
Shirou nodded as he walked towards the tombstone to go back to the palace he came from.
"It cannot get any worse from here on out right?" He said, accidentally tempting fate. As little did he know that what he just experienced was just the tip of a rather long and deep iceberg.
Chapter end.
