Anywho lets get started! NO Beta so sorry for any mistakes but focus on the story and enjoy! :)
IT WAS YOU
*RECAP*
"I can only tell you that it wasn't an easy thing to realize. I've always been extremely dedicated to my work. Madoka is the same. I've known the woman for over 10 years and only just asked her to marry me a year ago. We didn't even realize we liked each other until 2 years before that. Picking someone to stay by your side for the rest of your life isn't an easy choice to make. Madoka made the decision simple once I understood how I felt. With her little habits, her smile." Lin cleared his throat before meeting Oliver's Gaze "Noll, when there is someone who means everything to you, you'd destroy heaven and earth just to see them again. When you're with them, the weight you carry isn't so heavy. That's how I knew." He watched the young man take in the words, processing. Lin smiled to himself as he returned to the, not so, boring task of monitor duty. He may need to update that email again.
CHAPTER 6:
The morning meeting with the Davis' had not gone as she'd originally thought. With Noll and Lin in Japan handling the Turner case, Martin had called her over for breakfast this morning to discuss 'highly classified, important matters'. What Madoka expected was the usual, a current or upcoming case, but that had not been what was discussed. No, it was pertaining to a certain Narcissist they all knew and loved. God love them, they had called HER over to get an opinion on their choice of Noll's future partner. AN ENGAGEMENT! She recalled how well the topic had gone previously. It ended with a broken teapot and tea soaked carpet, not to mention the tea cup that was embedded in the wall by the fireplace. She thought the incident would have caused the two to refrain from it, at least for a while. It had only happened last year when Noll confronted his parents, rumors of him and Charlette had just hit the papers. Luella admitted to talks of possible future engagements and asked what he planned for his future. That coupled with the grandchildren's talk, Noll exploded. She remembered the pure betrayal and hurt on his face. Luella had tried to bring the topic back up the following morning, as she'd confessed to Madoka, mentioning setting up dates with a few women who could be a good potential partner. Luella was shocked and hurt by his reply that he wanted nothing of that future, his brother would never get the chance and he wasn't interested. So being called into a meeting to plan one behind his back had truly surprised her. She'd tried to persuade the couple to reconsider. But Luella seemed sure of herself, not wanting Noll to live a life of solitude.
Madoka could understand her concern, any mother would want their child to have love and happiness. Especially after a life of hardship and loneliness. Madoka may have been right there with her if not for the email she'd received while eating another late dinner last night. Madoka had almost choked on her food when she'd seen the attached image. Noll and Mai were so wrapped up in each other that it took her a moment to realize what was happening let alone who they were. She'd been elated at the image, probably more than she should have been. Those two danced around each other like it was a full-time job. Though honestly for them it most likely was. She'd wanted to show Luella the photo too. Just to give Noll some damn time to figure himself out. She'd refrained though, Lin was very adamant she NOT show the woman. Stating it would not only do no good to the situation with the two love birds but also send Luella into a tizzy. She'd be on the first plane to Japan. That's the last thing they needed. Madoka sighed deeply as she came to a stop next to her car in front of the Davis home. Looking up past her umbrella watching the rain coming down in a lazy drizzle, she took in the sullen sky. It'd been raining since the silent duo left. She missed Lin terribly. It had only been a few days but it was hard being away from him, especially now when they were getting married in two months. A vibration from her purse pulled her from her depressing thoughts. She glanced at the name displayed, Catherine… Her maid of honor and long time friend. They'd just talked that morning on her way over, maybe she found a cake vendor.
"Hello? Cat? Yes I can hear you."
"Madoka, I'm so sorry this is last minute and totally unexpected. I can't make it to the wedding. My father fell and Bennett and I are taking a last minute flight to Germany." The cat's voice was wet and coarse, she's been crying.
Madoka's heart sank as she asked, "Is he alright?"
"He told me he was but you and I both know how stubborn the man can be. I'll update you when we get there. I'm just not sure how much time this will take and I won't be available for any of the last minute details so I wanted you to be able to find someone who could. I will still try my best to be there. I would hate to miss it but my father.."
"It's alright Cat I understand, do let me know how he is when you find out. I don't know if anyone could replace you but I appreciate your thoughtfulness. Take care and let me know if you all need anything."
"I will. Thank you so much for understanding, Love You Madoka."
"Bye, love you too. Safe travels." Exhaustion tugged at her bones as she ended the call. Madoka just needed a nap. She paused as she found herself staring at Lin's contact info. He's probably asleep or most likely knee-deep in coffee number 5 of the day with hours of footage left to check. Shutting off her phone she pushed her tears away. Just a little longer. She had more important things to worry about now. The first being a new Maid of honor and then Noll's parents.
Mai's vision swam with unfocused images and muffled sounds. Her body felt like lead, as her back sunk into the floor, the images weighing her down more and more. Pushing her further under. Fuzzy images of a girl and two boys, each scene differing but always those three figures. A house, a girl, two boys. Pink trees, a girl, two boys. A well, a girl, two boys. The images continued in much the same fashion. Telling an out of focus movie. She stiffened as something smooth slid around her wrist, cool against her bare skin. Then it tightened around her wrist, her only warning before it ripped her upward. Out of the hole she was being buried in, up, up, up…. Light burned behind her lids. Groaning she brought a hand gently to her face, protecting it from the onslaught.
"I know Mai, you're most likely going to have to deal with the oversensitivity for a bit." She could hear Ayako moving around her, a glass being placed to her left and the shaking of a pill bottle.
"What time is it?" Her voice came out raspy, groggy from sleep. She peeked around her hand as Ayako placed a smaller cup, a few pills in it, with the water on the makeshift nightstand beside her cot.
"A little past 9. We've already had breakfast. Masako, John, and Housho are doing a walk-through. Getting a feel for the place while simultaneously checking the equipment. I was sent up here to get you." Ayako was glancing over her now, eyes lingering on the bandage around her head. "We should be able to remove that today. The wound was pretty superficial, head wounds tend to just bleed a lot. Though the concussion will probably take a few more days." Gesturing for Mai to sit up, Ayako moved to assist her. "Let's get you moving before Naru comes up here after us. I laid out some clothes from your bag for you. Take this and I'll take care of that bandage so we can get to base."
Mai didn't argue as she slowly sat up, her head swimming slightly. She hated feeling so out of it. They worked together to get her up and ready for the second day on the case. It was only day two and Mai was ready to be done with it. Pulling her deep red sweater over her head she moved to slide her feet into her house shoes. The black leggings and soft sweater made for a comfortable but professional look, which she was always down for. Ayako had great taste. She sat on the edge of her cot as Ayako took a seat next to her, hair brush and ponytail in hand. "Need some help?"
Mai smiled to the woman who had become a mother figure for her, "Sure, something loose and comfortable please. Last thing I need is a headache."
Ayako laughed, "Sorry Mai, I don't think you're going to escape that today, how about we just leave it down? It was in the braid all night so it won't be wild."
Mai considered for a moment, she preferred to wear it up and out of her way. She adored her long hair but there was a reason why younger Mai had kept it so short. It tended to have a mind of its own. Though today she may not have much of an option. Pulling her braid out she could feel as Ayako ran her fingers through the waves, gently brushing out any tangles before tucking some behind Mai's ear. "Beautiful as always. Now let's go get you something to eat. We wouldn't want any adverse effects from the meds." Mai watched as Ayako pushed herself up from the cot before straightening her flower patterned skirt. "Take those pills and meet me in base. I'll have something ready for you, don't take too long or it'll be cold."
"Okay mother hen, I'll be down soon." Mai smiled fondly as Ayako gave her a look and a wave as she left the room. A lot has happened in the past 24 hours. She was surely suffering from emotional whiplash on top of the injury. Downing the pills and half the water Mai stood and stretched a few kinks out of her back. She had this nagging in the back of her mind she couldn't ignore. Almost like she was missing something important, maybe forgetting something. She shut the door behind her as she tried to rack her lagging brain. Last night…There was the room. The completely obliterated room and then the kitchen. Her face burned as she recalled what had happened. Naru held her… held her as she cried. She should just go back to bed. Then she wouldn't have to worry about what he thought… What did he think of her now? She'd only wanted to apologize, let him know she hadn't meant to keep Gene a secret or even to confuse them. He had apologized too. She didn't really understand where they went from here. Their relationship had always been like walking a tightrope. One wrong word, step, choice and they plummeted. She felt like they'd found some solid ground in the kitchen together last night. Maybe she could get to know him, the real Naru. Smiling to herself and calming her nerves she walked towards base. Last thing she wanted was Ayako, or worse, Naru coming for her.
Her steps grew less confident as she approached the door to base, the stairs looming above her. Just yesterday she'd fallen down those steps, injuring not only herself but Akio. Her gaze focused on the bottom of the stairs, looking for any traces of the incident. Whoever had the task of cleanup had done a phenomenal job. The floor seemed to glow in the morning sun stretched across it, it looked brand new, her poor clothes hadn't been so lucky. She snapped back to attention as the door knob turned in her loose grip. Bringing her face to face with Naru. Instinctively she smiled and said good morning as she released her hold on the door allowing him to open it halfway, pausing at her presence.
His brow lifted as he looked her up and down, "Good morning Mai. I see you remembered your shoes this morning." The smirk on his stupid face as he teased her made Mai want to scream. She wondered if he knew that too because it only widened as he waited. He was messing with her for fun... This man was going to be the death of her.
"Naru don't make me threaten your tea supply. It is too early, my medicine hasn't kicked in and I'm hungry so I suggest we play nice for now." His eyes narrowed in amusement as he held her stare. What was going on behind that deep indigo? What did he think of last night? She wanted to ask but… she wasn't sure she was ready for an answer. He kept her gaze as he lowered his head and propped his shoulder against the door frame, his left hand holding the door in place, closing the distance between them as he spoke in a mirthful whisper, "Are you well this morning?" A British accent heavily lacing the question.
How dare he… He had no right to use that against her. Her knees felt a little less stable, was it hot in here? She only noticed she'd leaned into him when she went to answer and felt his breath against her face. It took all her focus to gasp out, "I.. I feel fine." She glanced at his lips briefly before they heard a cough from behind the door. Naru didn't budge at the sound as she turned bright red and backed a few steps away, her heart hammering in her chest. From her left she could hear the sounds of Ayako's heels down the hall. She needed to remember to breathe… breathe Mai! Ayako appeared in the next moment, adjusting her bracelets.
"Ah, your food is on the table in base. Lin asked me to grab the others for a meeting so I'll be back soon, I want you eating when I get back." Mai nodded her head, attempting to appear normal, and smiled as Ayako swept past her and up the stairs before disappearing over the landing with her last instructions echoing behind her. Please don't let Ayako figure out what just happened. She'd never hear the end of it. Her heart stuttered in her chest when she turned back to the man in front of her. She had barely caught her breath before it was stolen from her again. His gaze set every inch of her on fire as he continued to block her path through the door. Fighting her hummingbird heart Mai attempted to move past him. Except as she moved closer he didn't move, not even an inch. He just watched her approach, his eyes darkening as she got closer. Deciding she couldn't handle that look she averted her focus to the door, placing her hand on the wood she pushed it slightly, silently asking for entrance. When nothing happened she pushed again, a little firmer this time, wondering if her stare would burn through the wood like his seemed to burn through her. Why wouldn't he move? She began to internally panic as she felt his breath against her ear, "You look beautiful by the way." Then he was gone. Cool air licked against her raised hand, open air replacing wood. She stood in the now open doorway, dumbfounded. What just happened? She scrambled to pull her thoughts together as she took a step into the room. What the hell just happened? Her face burned as she avoided looking at him or Lin, bee-lining for the table where her breakfast sat. God what was he thinking? Was he just messing with her? Or did he maybe… no. It was a tease, that's definitely something he'd do. She just didn't know how many more of those close encounters her poor heart could handle.
The team were all sitting around the table in base discussing what they knew. The white board had been pulled over to the table. The red, black and blue markings surprisingly abundant for it being so early in the case. "So we figure it's more than one spirit?" Monk questioned.
"Yes we believe so, it's the most logical answer so far, unless Miss Hara has anything new." Naru didn't look at Masako as he addressed her.
"There is more than one. There are two very bright presences within the home but there's another… it's hard to get a read on. The atmosphere in this house makes it near impossible to sense them."
He looked to her then. A question on his face as John added, "I know what you mean Masako, I can't get much of anything, it all feels just out of reach."
Naru paused as he wrote something down in his notebook. "We know two for sure, a possible third."
"The question now is who are they and why are they stuck here?" Yasu pondered, hand on his chin. "I've looked into the past owners but none of them had any incidents of the paranormal, at least that we know of."
"What about the last family?" Mai asked. Glancing over the board she continued, "Didn't they have two sons?" She recalled a fuzzy image of two boys. Did she dream last night? Where had she seen them?
She focused back on the conversation when Monk added, "Well Akio said he was attacked by a female right? Is it one of the daughters?"
"There's a possibility it's one of the wives as well." Yasu added, "The property was owned by the same family until it was abandoned and purchased by the Turners. I couldn't find any indication of problems with the original family. Now Mai mentioned the twins, Asahi and Akio. There wasn't too much on them in the records or papers."
"Anyone else find it interesting that one of the twins is named Akio?" Ayako supplied, picking at her nails. "That could be mere coincidence but the current Akio living here has had some pretty targeted attacks." Ayako straightened her back as the silence settled over the room. Everyone at the table was looking at her. She glanced around looking for help, brow raised. Finally, having enough she snapped, "What?"
"Never thought Ayako would be the one to piece that together before the rest of you," Naru said, enough of an answer for him. Ayako looked as though she wasn't sure she should be offended or take the compliment.
Monk sat up from his relaxed position, complaining, "Hey now Naru, we would have gotten there. Don't act like you already made that connection. If you had, it would have been on the board."
Naru ignored the Monk's comment as Lin drew a line between the two Akio's, noting the possible connection. "We need to dig deeper into the previous women who lived here." Not the twins? She knew they had something to do with what was happening here, she needed to make sure they were looked into. "The…
"The twins as well. Yasu, you mentioned them being ill as children." Mai came up short as Naru continued to address Yasu. "I need you to find any information on their medical records if possible."
"Got it Big Boss." Yasu distractedly replied, his hand already moving roughly across his notebook.
Naru continued, not looking up from his hand dandy notebook, pen in hand pointing around the table, "John, Masako, I need you two to walk the house again see if you can get a closer feel for the third one. Then look for specific locations on the other two." The pen stopped on Ayako, "Ayako, work on some more charms for the team, higher grade if you can." He ignored her sputters of annoyance at his jab, the pen finally coming to a stop on her and Monk. "I need you two outside. Take a look around the property to see if anything peaks your interest." His eyes locked onto hers as he finished speaking. As if he was telling her directly. She wasn't some dog that could sniff things out.
She huffed in annoyance, rolling her eyes at him as she and Monk spoke in unison, "Yes sir." Though hers carried a little more sarcasm.
"Once we pinpoint a location we'll start cleansing the house. You are dismissed." Naru ignored the group as they stood and prepared to complete their tasks. Pulling her sweater on, it had started getting cold in the last few weeks, she felt Monk come to a stop next to her. His presence was a familiar warmth, it made the bundle of nerves in her stomach relax. If only slightly, there was an unfamiliar shift in the house's energy and it had her on edge.
"Ready Jou-chan?" Monk playfully questioned, sporting his own lightweight coat.
"Let's get this done. I'd like to be in by lunch." Mai said, spinning on her foot and walking towards the door of base, Monk falling in close behind.
"Spoken like a true boss! Careful Naru, she may give you a run for your money!" Monk called over his shoulder as they left the room. They missed Lin's cough as they exited base.
The outside of the home was gorgeous. The cool chill of the day refreshing with the sun shining overhead. Readjusting her, doctor ordered, sunglasses she took in the barren trees surrounding the property, the cherry blossoms in hibernation for the winter. She wondered just how bright the pink petals were in spring, it would be a beautiful view. She and Monk were making their way through the grounds of the large property. They had already been out here for about an hour without much luck after checking the large garden and entertainment patio on the other side of the property. Monk was by the garden shed checking out the large carved stones leaning against the old building.
"You would think they'd rebuild the garden shed when they did the house." He called to her as he approached. "That thing is probably original and on its last leg." She half-listened as she scanned their surroundings, there was something here. But where? She tuned monk out further as she heard the echo of a sound. She'd heard it so many times before.
Drip…
Splash…
Drip…
Splash…
Drip…
Splash…
She started towards the sound, oblivious to Monk trying to get her attention. "The well," she barely said aloud, "the well is this way."
"What… Mai! Wait!" Monk yelled after her. She knew he'd follow, she needed to find the well. Walking back towards the garden shed she headed straight for the tree line. The sound grew louder now, less of an echo. It was calling to her, asking her to follow, to find its source. Rounding the shed she moved faster now, she had to get to the well. Feeling the sound within her, each breath it pulled her closer. He would be there, she had to hurry. With each beat of her heart it tugged harder. She needed to run or she wouldn't make it in time. As she made to take off in a sprint a hand gripped her arm. Making her thrash in an attempt to remove it.
"NO! NO NO NO NO! LET ME GO I HAVE TO GET TO HIM!" Whipping her head back and forth, she screamed at the hand. He needed to know. Her chest ached as it tugged harder at her to hurry. She couldn't wait here any longer; it would be too late. The sound was screaming at her now, urging her to hurry. She pushed and clawed at the hand, trying to get loose. She needed to be at the well now. "LET G…"
"HEY!" another hand grabbed her chin, halting it in its shaking. Forcing her to focus on the man in front of her. "What is wrong?!" That push was there again urging her forward, into the trees. Begging her to hurry, come to me, it pleaded. He needed to let her go or it would be too late. The man looked at her in shock as tears ran down her face.
She pleaded, "Please… Please… LET ME GO!"
She started to fight against those hands as another voice called out from the trees stilling them both, "Hayami…" It was a cool, deep voice. It carried a longing in it that she felt reverberate through her core. There was that incessant pull, to answer, to go to it, to him. She wanted to tell him she was here but the man covered her mouth, silencing her cry.
In a whisper the man holding her asked, "you heard that?" She wanted to scream yes, to scream at him to let go but could only nod her head as a cool breeze drifted through the clearing, the clouds covering the sun causing a chill to settle over them. They stood there silently for a moment, staring into the tree line. The trees danced in the breeze as the clouds passed before finally revealing the warmth of the sun. Then it was gone… the sound that had thrummed through her very being, the pull, his voice. Then she was Mai and totally confused. What just happened? She felt like she'd been asking that question way too much lately. She wasn't herself just now. Just like when they'd first arrived she'd been overwhelmed. Monk removed his hand from her mouth once the otherworldly presence disappeared. Shaking his hand off her arm she suddenly felt very dizzy.
"That thing, whatever it was, called a name… I didn't quite catch it though." Monk stated as he continued to stare into the trees looking for any signs of what had once been there.
Mai squeezed her eyes shut, her head beginning to pound as the world around her spun, "Ha-hay-ami." She supplied almost breathlessly.
"I don't really understand what happened with you either Mai." Monk began, not quite hearing her. She needed to steady herself before she fell. Putting her hand out she stumbled back towards the garden shed. Her hand brushed the stone from before as her world turned black.
Her eyes adjusted to the low light of her astral plane. The pounding in her head still present as the space around her seemed to thrum. She began to recognize the rhythmic vibrations as the sound from the woods. It had entranced her then and pulled her to its whim, but this place was hers. No one controlled it but her. It had taken 3 years of disciplined practice and study to learn to manipulate and maintain her astral plane. She'd taken care to learn protective measures as well. She followed the pulse in the ground, causing ripples across the watery surfaced floor. The rhythmic movement acting as her guide. As she walked darkness became a blur of colors around her, before she fully stepped into the plane and the space took shape.
The Cherry Blossoms were in full bloom around her. The pink vibrant and alive. Mai took in her surroundings, she was at the front of the tree line. Just shy of the entrance to the trail she now stood on was the shed, but it looked fresher, old but well maintained. Her eyes followed the call of the birds above her as they flew between the trees and down the path, toward the source. The thrum from before had gone silent, only the whistle of wildlife surrounded Mai. Then she heard the sound of footsteps. Mai turned quickly on her heel to see a handsome dark haired young man. Her heart seemed to still at his smile. She wasn't just observing? Who was she playing as? She had so many questions that halted as she started to speak then the plane shifted. She was now walking down the path, her body moving of its own accord, The day had shifted to night. She carried an oil light in her right hand moving down the same path as before. Then she was rounding the corner of the path, the area lined by rose bushes, her heart seemed to pick up pace with her feet as she took sight of the same man as before resting against an old stone well, the man smiled at her while pushing himself off the well. He walked right up to her and held her face within his hands, gently kissing her forehead and then the plane shifted again. Now she was leaning up against the well, the sky beautiful hues of orange, and the same man but older, more matured was watching her. He was before her now presenting a beautiful hair piece, the item made of gold and littered with shiny pink, white, and red jewels.
Then he and the gift were gone and it was dark, she only knew she was still in the woods by the sounds of the insects and animals around her. The muscles in her body tensed as she waited. She was waiting for something or someone when the sound started. Drip… splash… drip… She whipped around as the hairs on the back of her neck stood up, the well was glowing ominously in the dark forest. She could hear the water dripping down and hitting the bottom, a drop at a time. Then she heard the scratching, rough sounds against stone. Then came the muttering, harsh and wild. Everything in Mai was screaming for her to run, get out now before whatever was in there got out and found her. The thing grew louder as it approached the top of the well, she stilled as a cool hand slid around her wrist. Mai whipped her head around to come face to face with none other than Eugene Davis. Mai stared wide eyed at the Davis twin as he motioned for her to stay quiet. She was quickly reminded of their current situation and whipped her head to the well. She watched as a pale, bone thin hand hit the top of the well. Long nails scratching along the stones, then came another and Gene was pulling her down the path away from the well. Oh shit they stayed too long, she really did not want to know what was in that well. They had rounded the corner, the rose bushes wilting as they ran by, when the earth shattering scream rang across the plane. She stumbled in her running, Gene saving her from face-planting by pulling her right back up mid fall. He hadn't changed, he still looked as he had all those years ago. It would have made her bust into tears if they weren't in a life threatening situation. They cleared the trees and ran past the garden shed as the thing screeched again. The ground seemed to quake beneath them at the sound. They turned the corner around the house as she caught a glimpse of something between the trees. It was moving fast and she had a feeling she knew where it was heading. Gene yanked her up the stairs of the porch and pushed her through the front door, slamming it shut and locking it. He steepled his hands as he placed a protection spell over the door, buying them some time. "It won't hold long, you need to get out of here."
"Gene… you're here? What.." Mai tried to ask, she couldn't keep up with what was happening.
Gene looked at her in exasperation, "Mai now isn't the time for questions, we are dealing with a life or death situation here!" He placed two fingers on her forehead as the pounding on the door began. That creature was at the door, they were out of time. "Later." He promised and then pushed against her forehead sending her back… back… back. Darkness cocooned around her as she heard the door splinter and bust open. Then she was floating in that darkness, her eyes growing heavier as she settled back into herself and succumbed to sleep.
Maybe he should refrain from interactions of that nature around Lin. Though the man had saved them both from the embarrassment of the group he might have preferred it over this. Lin had been giggling like a school girl since the incident. Naru ran a hand through his hair in exasperation. "Enjoying yourself?" Lin glanced at him from over his shoulder, a hint of a smile gracing his features.
He'd been reviewing a few records Yasu found. Seated at the table the documents were laid before him. The twins had been extremely susceptible to illness in their earlier years, nothing abnormal for the time especially with them being twins. He and Lin were the only ones currently in base, the rest of the team would be back in an hour for lunch. He didn't know if he wanted to wait that long with Lin acting like a child. He sometimes missed his friend from before Madoka. He'd been the perfect silent companion, similar to himself in many ways, but Madoka had changed Lin. Now the man joked around and actually participated in the time wasting habit of gossip. It was an idiotic pastime that many of his coworkers and even his parents participated in. Naru sighed as he decided to be more private with his experiment. He didn't think Lin being present would be an issue but he'd learned otherwise. He wasn't sure what results he wanted but he couldn't leave things as they were. He knew Mai wouldn't easily answer that question. Me or Gene? But he needed an answer. Lin had enlightened him earlier, he needed to test his theory though. He couldn't just tell her what he was doing either, Mai wouldn't willingly participate then. Her reaction to his first test surprised him. He'd expected little reaction or irritation. Though she had at first it had quickly changed to something else, dare he say more. He wouldn't get an answer from one single test. So he'd need to think this next one out. Glancing back down to the papers strewn across the table, first he'd need to figure out what is missing.
An otherworldly screech shredded the silence as the shaking started. Immediately on their feet the silent duo moved in unison for the door to base. Lin threw it open making his way for the stairs to retrieve the team. Naru moved in the opposite direction, Outside. He didn't know what was making that sound but he needed to make sure the team was fine first. The giant chandelier above the entrance made him give pause for just a moment, it swayed back and forth violently, rattling from the abuse as shards of the crystals fell like snow around him. Not wanting to waste anymore time he rushed through the foyer and out the door. Skipping the steps all together as he looked around the large clearing. Where were they? The screeching came to a halt then the world around them slowly came to a still. In the sudden silence Naru could hear the collapsing of trees in the surrounding woods, The shattering sounds echoing through the clearing. Where the hell was Mai and Takigawa? He heard them before he saw them, from the right side of the house Monk appeared, his head bleeding, with an unconscious Mai laying limply in his arms. His heart sank, what the hell was going on?
