RWBY: Fond Memories
Sick Day
"Okay Blake….you can do this, just relax." Blake sighed heavily as she examined herself in the mirror for what must have been the 18th time today. She was adorned in a purple dress with purple glitter, matching her eyeliner, coating it, as well as a gold colored sash wrapped around it to complement her gold hoops and earrings. It was a look that could raise the beast in any man or woman, which is why her heartbeat was racing rapidly.
It had been years since she had gussied up so much for someone else. After all, she spent the majority of her teenage years hiding behind a mask or bow who she was. It wasn't ever easy
"What if I went overboard this time? Even if its Yang she might….okay Blake! Just get your head in the game it's a sure thing. Yang already confessed once….granted we we're about to die but-" she muttered to herself before smacking her cheeks to build up her confidence and ranted.
"Oh Gods! Now I'm sounding just like Ru-" Blake said before gasping in realization, her eyes widening in horror.
Instinctively she ran out the bathroom to grab on her dresser a framed photo, depicting her wife Ruby, Penny, and the former's son Thorn nuzzled together at a picnic blanket at a vale park. She was immediately washed over with guilt at the sight.
"I-I'm sorry! I'm so sorry Ruby!" She yelled at her wife's image, her eyes wide and baggy as she grew anxious. "I…I didn't know what I was thinking! Wanting to go out on a date with your sister! It's just, just-" Blake whimpered, unable to find the words to excuse herself.
Despite the vows they took saying "till death do we part" Blake just couldn't handle the knot in her stomach as she pondered the thought. She loved Ruby more than anything in the world. When she lost her she thought her world was gone. She knew deep down this was wrong, she had plenty of love to give to their son and could be spared for Yang, but she still couldn't help but feel she was betraying her wife's memory by doing this. She wanted love again, to feel the warmth of someone's touch after so long, but the heat that consumed her when she made the call the other night to Yang for their restaurant date was now replaced by a chill.
"Ugh…..y-yeah sure. Why not, this Friday at 7?" Yang sheepishly had agreed over the phone. The unease in her voice echoed in Blake's mind. This certainly wasn't kosher, but Blake had lost herself to her desire at the time, or was it a mere sense of security? Blake knew she was pretty, but she still hated the stares she'd get from onlookers, whether those of hatred for her Faunus nature or looks of lust. She knew Yang's love for her was tighter than looks, having confessed when near death once, so maybe she had asked only for a sense of self-preservation, to avoid the risk of being used. She know felt queasy as she kept pondering these dark thoughts, that call as well, and eyed her deceased wife's image more, soon rushing into the bathroom again to unload her stomachs contents.
After a few minutes of the purge, Blake huffed as she laid back against the cold tile of her bathtub, her photo still in her hands.
"Gosh I haven't been this sick since….huh?" She groaned before eying the photo again. She was particularly focused on Penny, holding Little baby Thorn in her arms tenderly.
"Wait, I remember now. This was the day after me and Ruby-" she said a bit surprised that she forgot it. After all, it was quite the wild day.
This time it was Ruby's turn to unload her stomach contents into the bathroom toilet violently, her face red from stress as tears and snot oozed from it.
"Oh *Beep* I feel like *Beep*!" Ruby screamed through her wrenching.
On their master bed laid Blake, clad only in her black bikini and purple underwear, sweat oozing from her skin pale as a ghost as her cat ears laid sideways, her usually golden eyes now bloodshot as she too groaned in misery.
"Don't bitch so loud honey *gag* " She winced painfully before exhaling heavily. "Since you undercooked the roast." Blake whined as she rubbed her stomach.
"W-Well...don't be *gag* such a lazy kitten next time and cook your damn self." Ruby moaned as she collapsed on the cold tiles, too walk from poisoning to move. She just limply crawled to the bathtub to run the hot water in a vain hope it would alleviate her stomach pain.
If it had been anyone else, Blake would have been annoyed being called "kitten", but even her wife wasn't able to annoy her right now, she was too exhausted from her cold mixed with the bacterial infection.
She winced in pain from a headache as there was pounding on the door to their master bedroom.
"Momma's" Thorn whined, making them groan. They didn't have the energy to play right now.
"Not now Pup. Mommies need a nap." Blake called out.
"But hungry. I want lunch-pack!" He whined.
When no response came from his parents bedroom, a small puppy-like whimper echoed into the room as both mothers heard their son begin to pout and cry. If not for their illness, they'd rush out right now to alleviate him.
"I can't move babe. P-Please-" Ruby called out from the bathtub, her bloodshot eyes staring tearfully at her wife.
"No fair honey." Blake whimpered as she vainly tried to shrug off those puppy dog eyes.
"Mother fu- oh that's happening tonight babe. Okay." Blake groaned in annoyance.
Slowly, she tried to life herself up from bed, but her head was as heavy as an anvil, her breathing growing more labored as she tried to force herself to rise for her son, whose cries spurred her on.
Ruby felt guilty watching her wife go in her place, or at least try to go, but couldn't help but snicker as she heard her ragged breathing and saw Blake's position on the bed.
"Heh- Now you get how hard childbirth was Kitty. Laying an egg is heavy." Ruby giggled before groaning as she dunked her head into the hot bathwater to fight a migraine.
"T-That line doesn't work. We don't lay eggs, but *beep* I'll break your *f #$ing* jaw if you tell a bad joke again." Blake threatened, though knew she couldn't follow through as she collapsed in exhaustion.
"Screw this." She said defiantly as she crawled to her nightsand from the bed, weakly grabbing her scroll. It might mean a few hours of headaches and crying, but she had to wait if it meant they'd get help for their son in their place.
But a few hours felt like eternity as Thorn's crying turned into screams of anger and hunger as he banged on the door madly, further aggravating his poisoned mothers headaches and vertigo.
"Gods just kill us now." Ruby whined as she cradled her wife's head to her chest in bed.
"You first Meatloaf monster." Blake groaned as she snuggled the blankets into her like a cocoon.
"Now whose telling bad jokes." Ruby giggled.
"Who said it's a joke." Blake said deadpanned.
"If she doesn't get here in the next 5 minutes, we're going to be down one son instead." Ruby groaned as Thorn kept banging on the door.
"MAMMA! I WANT LUNCH!" He screamed. Now he ran down the hall, fed up with being ignored more than his hunger as he crotched, assuming a ramming position.
He charges on all fours as he ran fast down the hall, preparing to crash through that cursed door and get his mommy's attention already.
Just as he leaped to charged headfirst into the door, ignorant to the fact his head would split open instead, a pair of wires soon wrapped around the Dog Faunus toddler, jerking him back as he soon flailed in the black-glove covered hands as tight as a vice.
"Aunt Penny! Let down!" Thorn screamed.
"Shhhh! Mommies told me their heads have big boo boos Thorn. We gotta let them sleep little puppy." Penny shushed him as she put him under her armpit and quietly raced out the door to outside.
"But…..I wanted play with mommy." Thorn whimpered as his ears descended like Blake's, tears forming in his eyes to Penny's fright.
"I-I know sweetie, don't worry! A-Aunt Penny's gonna-" But as she sputtered those frantic words she saw his reddened face contort to a mad frown mixed with sadness that tugged at her robotic heart.
Quickly she had her computer systems search Ways to stop kids from crying and begun to try and implement it.
"Rocket ship!" She yelled as she begun to twirl him as she held him up high to his surprise.
At first it seemed to sooth the boy a bit, eliciting giggles and squeals from the dog Faunus. Penny smiled and laughed herself from seemingly completing her mission, before in the corner of her right eye an envelope icon flashed.
"Hm? Message from Ruby? Wonder what else she-"
No quicker did she think that, Penny got her answer as she opened it, all cap words basically cursing at her to-
SHUT THE F$%# UP! LET US SLEEP!
She quickly realized they were still close to the house and were shouting near the sick mothers. She ceased her playing with Thorn as she slowly lowered him down.
This did not sit well with the toddler, who started to pout and kick the ground in frustration.
"More Rocketship! More flying!" He screamed.
Penny winced as her message systems begun getting bombarded by more cursing texts from Ruby and Blake on repeat. Now she was starting to get a headache.
"Okay!" She whispered yelled as she grabbed Thorn and, without thinking, ignited her Jet boots and flew away from the house.
Thorn felt the highspeed winds blast his face, his tongue practically smacking his cheek like a dog with its head stuck out a car window as they circled the island of Patch, the boy squealing in excitement as his playtime resumed and in greater force.
Penny soon saw in the corner of her eye the messages cease. She sighed in relief as her lovers begun to sleep once more.
"Mission accomplished. Just hope I have enough fuel to buy them a few hours."
3 Hours later….
Blake was still feeling a bit weak, her head light, but smiled as she yawned peacefully after her nap, no longer feeling pain in her head at least despite some mild stomach irritation. The medicine they drank was bitter, but it was finally working wonders. She saw that first hand as she looked down and saw her Wife Ruby snuggle it with her whole arm peacefully dreaming. She smiled as she cherished moments she saw her smile in sleep, due to the abrupt nightmares both got over the years, for her Faunus hunters, and Ruby well….she hated to think about him she just wanted to feel her wife's true bliss herself.
"What could make this more perfect?" Blake thought warmly as she knelt down and kissed her sleeping wife on the forehead and cradled it.
No sooner did she think that, her ears picked up the sound of jet fuel spurting as it begun to run out outside their home. Quickly the door to their room was opened, still careful and considerate of the two ladies sleeping before to have a ginger haired girl with green eyes check, before she sighed in relief and just pried it open, revealing Thorn fast asleep in her armpit.
"Batteries drained. We both need a recharge now kitty wife." Penny whispered exhausted, mindful of Ruby.
Blake just chuckled as she patted the bed. "Well come her then. Bedtime for everybody."
As the Android and her honorary nephew snuggled up into the bed with Ruby and Blake, both mother's bodies warm up and ease of tension as they felt their son and Robotic lovers embrace. Ruby, though still asleep, could almost tell exactly what was going on as someone touched her body, recognizing the warmth that made her heart rumble fondly.
"Hmmm that's nice." She hummed in her sleep to everyone's joy. Both she and Blake cherished times where skin contact made her feel warm and secure, as opposed to the stinging shock she at times had from her trauma.
"I'll always be here for you my sweet flower" Blake whispered lovingly as she cradled her family and closed her eyes as she heard Penny whisper "And your Family for you Kitty."
As she opened them up again, she found herself back in the present, her dress a bit wrinkled like the photo she saw she was gripping. Quickly she gasped for air as she realized what happened and gently pressed the photo, careful not to ruin the source of a great memory. But soon her face grew crestfallen as she pondered Penny's words to her more.
"But….where's my family now? Thorn's at school, and you both are….dead." Blake whimpered, wiping tears from her eyes as she spoke that painful reality.
"Just saying hi to mom." Blake soon recoiled as she heard Ruby's words, darting her head around as she tried to find the source.
"R-RUBY!?" Blake cried out.
Her heart nearly ruptured when she didn't see a source. Her knees grew wobbly as she focused on sitting down on the living room couch to keep herself vaguely composed. As she sighed dejected from her seemingly sick head game her eyes soon widened as she looked out the living room window, noticing the full moon light outside.
"Wait…full moon?" It was then she realized from that thought what she heard, another memory.
"Blake, meet my mom, Summer Rose." Ruby had said 5 years ago on the Cliffside of Patch Blake now saw herself looking towards. It was the night Ruby learned she was pregnant and felt so lost and unsure. Hell, they all did. Blake and the others had no idea how to counsel their friend through her ordeal. It was that night much like this one that plagued Blake with doubt that Ruby went to her mom's grave, as if seeking guidance as if she was alive.
In the blink of an eye, Blake soon found herself there, staring blankly at the same tombstone, only now the scene was much harder for her as two stones stood side by side. Blake knew her instincts were pulling her there, screaming at her to get her own guidance from her lost beloved, as if to lie to herself for comfort she were still alive and hadn't left her widowed and alone, depriving Yang her promised presence and herself the closure she knew she was avoiding.
"I know I shouldn't here Ruby. I just needed…Huh?" Blake muttered with guilt in her tone, before raising her eyebrow as she noticed something. To her own shock, Blake found she really wasn't alone at the cliff, a familiar mane of gold was waiving towards the sea in front of her wife's grave.
"Blake?" Yang asked surprised to see her date's presence here at night. She quickly put something behind her back on her wheelchair that Blake noticed. Her Faunus eyes might be riddled with tears, but were still sharp.
"Why are you here too? What you got there behind you?" Blake asked curious as she pointed to Yang.
Yang sighed as she slowly revealed a bouquet of Roses from behind her back.
"A bit cliché for a first date don't you think? Where's the chocolates?" Blake couldn't help but joke.
"Despite what your thinking…these we're for Ruby." Yang said sadly.
The air practically froze as Blake heard this.
"I, I just wasn't sure if I should have done this. I know what I said to you in the caves back then but I…"
Yang didn't even need to finish her awkward confession, Blake knew what she meant.
"I know this isn't exactly Kosher. A part of me feels a bit sick to my stomach trying this." Blake confessed.
"Pff! Yeah, eyepatch and one leg's kind of a turn off for the boys so-" Yang half-joked. Blake's eyes widened as she realized her insensitivity. Yang never once mentioned to anyone how she lost her eye and leg, it was a closely guarded secret Blake realized she treaded upon. It made her stomach knot
"NO I-! I-I I just meant Ruby I felt I-" Blake frantically screamed in defense, but froze as Yang just chuckled again.
"You too huh? I know I said "I've loved you and those cute ears for so long" all those years ago. I came here because I never told Ruby I said that to you though. It churned my gut like tonight." Yang said sadly as she put the roses on her sisters tombstone.
Blake felt her own churn as she heard that, realizing Yang was feeling the same guilt she did right now.
"How are we gonna get past this rump of ours?" Blake asked the thought on both their minds without thinking.
"I….I don't know. This is like a disease. I can't get Ruby out of my mind ever. I feel like I'm betraying her and every loving hug we shared when I think about you, about us being a family Blake." Yang tearfully confessed.
"Family" Blake's eyes widened as she once more heard Penny's words, seeing the image of her hugging her and Ruby with Thorn.
"We're always there for you." It was when she whispered her robot lovers words did Blake know what she had to do. She rushed up and hugged her wife's sister in the tightest squeeze she could to her shock.
"W-What's this all of the-" Yang couldn't even finish her sentence before her lips were assaulted by Blake's.
Once they separated, soft amber eyes met lilacs, nearly assaulted by their eyelids that grew heavy. Blake and Yang blushed heavily from this bold action, but Blake inhaled deeply to compose herself. She told herself to be strong, like the two girls in her mind she knew would. She had to say this because she knew they would, to help them both move on.
"Penny and Ruby. We lost them." Blake said sadly. "But before we did, Penny once told me Family would always be there for you."
"But there…gone." Yang sadly countered as she clasped Blake's hand tenderly.
"Yet Ruby came back here for hers. When she got pregnant, she came here to see Summer Rose for guidance, just like we did for Ruby's. She may be gone Yang, but when she lost Summer she lived her life still. Maybe that's what she wants us to do now?" Blake asked.
Yang's eye widened as she heard these words, looking towards her sister and stepmother's grave's with it.
"She always did talk like Summer was still here." Yang chuckled sadly.
"And we always talked like Ruby was too. Maybe she is? We'll still have our memories of her." Blake countered.
Yang just sighed heavily at that notion.
"Every time I so much as look at you, think about us I see her. Think I'm-" Yang continued, but blake cut her off.
"That's good, I want to keep thinking of her too when I see you, keep her alive with that memory. Maybe that makes US better than we thought. We can have the sad and the glad when we try this." Blake suggested as she held her hand out.
Yang just sat there pondering deeply whether she should take this hand of her true love before her. Her hand trembled as it felt the temptation to take it and go on their date, the grave behind the arm though locked it in place as if silver daggers gazed upon it and kept it in place. This was her sister's wife, her blood nephew's adopted mom after all.
"I either take this hand and go on my wildest mission yet….or go home and keep things normal for Ruby's sake." Yang thought, more seriously than she ever did about any decision in her life. She didn't know what she wanted for once.
What would make her happy?
