Chapter 19 - The Day of the Dead Caper

(In a cornfield)

It was a sunny day, with a nice breeze blowing, causing an old weather vanes wheel to turn, as it creaked, while there was rustling in the cornfield below.

Flytrap and Spinkick were seen walking towards where Carmen and Naruto were, thanks to the trackers they'd placed on them, with Flytrap holding some bolas at the ready while Spinkick was using a phone to track the trackers.

They soon came upon a clearing in the cornfield, as Spinkick moved a piece of corn stake out of the way, allowing him to see two figures just standing there, wearing Naruto and Carmen's hat and coats.

Spinkick made a hand signal that caused Flytrap to stop walking, before he signalled her to go one way, while he went the other.

As they ran through the cornfield, they caused the corn stakes to move, which disturbed the crows nearby, as they squawked before flying off, as Spinkick and Flytrap jumped up out of the cornfield, with Flytrap spinning two bolas in her hands as she fell towards the two figures with a yell and a wide grin on her face, while Spinkick fell with a kick.

"Game over, Sandiego and Uzuma….ki!" Spinkick said with a grin, as he and Flytrap attacked a figure each, before his eyes widened in surprise upon seeing that they were just two scarecrows, as the straw heads fell off.

Flytrap had a scowl on her face, as she opened the coats on the scarecrows, showing that the tracking devices were on their chests.

Flytrap gave a sigh at this, as Spinkick ran over. "We have to call this in, you know" she told him with a cocked eyebrow.

Spinkick grit his teeth at this as he gave a groan of annoyance, before he clenched his fists tightly as he threw his head back and gave a yell, which sent some crows flying, squawking as they did.

Meanwhile, Shadowsan was sitting in a car on a track through the cornfields, as he gave a smirk while putting his glasses on before he drove off.

(At VILE Castle)

It was raining lightly as the waves lapped at the rocks round the castle outside, while inside the castle, it looked quite spooky, as halloween decorations were put up, as the large screen came down while ringing.

When the screen showed Spinkick and Flytrap, they both gave a gasp of shock at what they saw.

"What's wrong? Did you lose your funny bone?" Gunnar asked with a smirk, as he waved a skeleton arm while dressed like a clown, with his hair coloured green and spiked up on the sides of his head, while his face had clown makeup.

{"Professor Maelstrom?"} Flytrap asked curiously.

Maelstrom just grinned wildly as he tossed the skeleton arm away. "Tonight, call me by my parallel universe name….Charlie Pants" he said.

"Clowning around is no way to set an example for our new operatives, Gunnar," Countess Cleo said harshly, while dressed like Cleopatra.

Professor Maelstrom gave a groan at this, as an unhappy look appeared on his face. "I shall venture a guess. You were tricked by Carmen Sandiego and Naruto Uzumaki yet again" he said.

Flytrap and Spinkick bother muttered at this, while glancing off to the side.

"We were hoping for a treat," Cleo said with a frown, her arms crossed on the table.

"Such as this pumpkin spice latte" Dr Bellum said happily, showing that she was dressed as an alien, before she tried to drink the latte…..but only causing it to drip down the glass helmet that she wore.

Coach Brunt gave a growl of annoyance, as she was dressed like a cowgirl, complete with a horse's toy head on a stick. "I reckon you all best mosey on backsouth of the Mexican border and see about rustling up Carmen and Naruto's trail" she said.

"Fail again, and Mr Pants will not be a happy clown" Gunnar said, as he pulled out a large knife, as he gave them a scary look.

Spinkick and Flytrap both looked worried at this, before they hung up.

"Now, who's ready for the pumpkin carving contest?" Professor Maelstrom asked with a grin, as he lifted up a pumpkin, which the other Faculty members did, each with a smile on their face.

The roots of Day of the Dead go back thousands of years, to the traditions of worship practised by the Aztecs and other Nahua people"} Player said, as he brought up the info on the laptop. {"Today, deceased relatives are honoured with ofrendas, which are altars adorned with flowers, candles, photos, food, and even special belongings of the person being remembered."}

"The most familiar motifs of Dia de los Muertos may be the calaveras and calacas….skulls and skeletons. You'll see them everywhere as candy, dolls, face paint, even masks, representing death as a natural part of life, rather than something to be feared" Naruto said with a smile.

{"You'll be arriving just in time, too. Day of the Dead festivities typically begin the night before, on All Hallows Eve"} Player said with his own smile.

"Well, we've got about 8 hours till we arrive, so we have plenty of time to have fun and prepare" Carmen said with a grin, as she and Naruto had looked at how long they had until they arrived at Mexico City.

Player gave a nod at this, before he signed off.

{"I wish. The news reports about the recent art thefts in Mexico City totally screamed VILE to me, but I haven't been able to intercept any chatter confirming my suspicions"} Player said with a tone of worry.

"Well, that's not good," Carmen said with a frown.

{"This is the only major museum in the area that hasn't been hit yet"} Player said, as Naruto's phone pinged, causing him to look at a photo of a museum.

"Then it's sure to be the next target," Naruto said.

Carmen gave a nod of agreement at this, before she walked over to Zack and Ivy. "Guys, me and Naruto are gonna head over to a museum, which could possibly be the next place to be hit. So you're both free to do whatever you want" she said with a grin at them.

"Sweet!" Zack and Ivy yelled out with wide smiles, as they high fived.

Carmen chuckled at this, as she walked back to Naruto, before they walked off to get a bus ride to the museum.

"One of our favourite artists, who was born right here in Mexico City," Naruto said with a smile.

Carmen nodded in agreement to this. "Some of her most famous paintings are on loan for this exhibition, including this one" she said with a smile.

After looking at the painting a bit more, Naruto and Carmen turned around and walked off. "We see that there are some art students here," Naruto said, as he and Carmen walked past one that was drawing on a notepad, as they glanced at what she was drawing….causing them both to stop and look more closely at the drawing she'd done, which had nothing to do with art.

"But one of them is sketching everything but the art," Carmen said with a small frown.

Naruto nodded in agreement to this, a frown of his own on his face. "The doors, windows and cameras. She's definitely casing the joint" he said with a raised eyebrow, as they both turned away from the woman, as she walked towards the exit.

They both moved to follow after her, but a tour group suddenly walked in front of them, stopping them.

"Frida Kahlo was greatly inspired by indigenous Mexican culture, which she communicates through her vivid, colourful imagery" the tour guide said to the group while gesturing at a painting, as Naruto and Carmen tried to keep an eye on the women, before they walked around the tour group once they stopped walking.

Once they made it outside, they looked around for her, but they saw no sign of her, only seeing a bunch of pheasants walking and pecking about.

"Damn, we lost her," Carmen said with a small frown.

"Yeah, and we never saw her face," Naruto said with his own frown.

"But she did look young. Too young to be stealing art of this calibre for herself" Carmen said, as she cupped her chin in thought.

"And she also looked to be too young to be a VILE operative" Naruto said as he gave a nod at this.

{"Do you think that you can track her down?"} Player asked curiously.

Before they could reply, they saw a poster of the painting that they were looking at earlier, which caused them both to grin.

"There'll be no need," Naruto said.

"Yeah, she'll be back," Carmen said with a nod, before they walked off.

Chief's hologram stood before Chase and Julia, with Chase still in his ruined ACME suit.

{"Have you determined exactly what in the world Carmen Sandiego and Naruto Uzumaki might have been doing at a wrestling match in Mexico?"} Chief asked with a hard look and tone.

"Besides ruining my new suit and paving their usual path of destruction?" Chase asked with a cocked eyebrow, as he gestured to himself.

"Nothing was stolen" Julia said, as she looked off to the side slightly.

"That we know of!" Chase said with a firm tone and a glare.

{"I have a theory"} Chief said, causing them both to look at her. {"There have been a series of museum heists in Mexico City during the last few weeks."}

"The period of time that the Crimson Shadow and the Whiskered One have been completely off our radar" Chase said with a smug look and tone, as he looked over his shoulder at Julia, who was scowling at him.

Chief nodded at this. {"Exactly. I'm thinking that this little pitstop was intended as a diversion, to shake us off the trail of their actual scheme"} she said with a slight scowl.

"Or perhaps Ms Sandiego and Mr Uzumaki were simply here for some other, non criminal reason" Julia said, as Chase moved to the side.

{"Like what, Agent Argent? A sudden interest in contact sports? Or do I need to remind you that Carmen Sandiego and Naruto Uzumaki recently hacked classified data from ACME?"} Chief asked with a firm tone, as she glared slightly.

"Yet I simply cannot see a likely motive for them to steal masterworks from museums other than dropping them back into our laps unharmed and revealing the weak links in security to the museums that they borrowed them from!" Julia said with a firm tone of her own, as she walked up to Chief's hologram and glared back at her, with Chase looking from one to the other, before he raised an eyebrow at this with his hands on his hips.

Chief narrowed her eyes at this. {"Devineaux, take a walk"} she said with a hard tone, as she gestured down the hallway.

Chase raised an eyebrow at this, before he put his hands in his pockets and walked off, glancing over his shoulder slightly as he did.

Once he was far enough away, Chief looked back at Julia. {"Look, Argent, you are among ACME's finest, when your head is in the game"} she said with a hard look and tone.

Julia returned the hard look with one of her own. "My head is in the game, Chief. It's my heart that isn't. Not anymore" she said with a downcast look, as she looked off to the side.

{"If this is about being partnered with Devineaux, I can fix that"} Chief said with a raised eyebrow, as she moved her eyes towards the hallway Chase went down, who was looking round the corner, before he quickly hid himself.

Julia gave a sigh, before she looked up at Chief. "This is about realising that I need to believe in my work" she said.

Chief closed her eyes at this. {"I see. I'll arrange for your transfer back to Interpol"} she said, as she opened her eyes.

Julia looked off to the side slightly at this, before looking back at Chief. "Actually, I've been wanting to put my second degree to use. There's an open position in the ancient history department of a rather prodigious university" she said with a smile.

Chief gave a nod to this. {"The door is always open if you ever have a change of heart"} she said with slightly narrowed eyes, as Julia gave a small smile at this, before she left the building with Chase watching her go, with a sad look on his face.

(Meanwhile)

Back in Mexico City, it was nighttime and everyone was enjoying the festivities. People were standing on the sidewalks, as they watched a parade go down the streets, with some people wearing costumes while others were playing instruments, as those in costume were each carrying a lit candle.

While this was happening, back at the museum that Naruto and Carmen were at earlier, the pheasants were minding their own business….as the door into the museum swung about, squeaking as it did.

Someone walked forward, revealing it was a woman thanks to the outside lights and that she had her face painted, so that no one would recognise her, along with a large blanket wrapped around her waist, before they used a remote to deactivate the cameras and all other security systems.

They then walked towards the paintings on the wall, as they looked around, before seeing the one that Naruto and Carmen were looking at earlier.

She then walked towards it, and after looking around for a moment, she took it off the wall with a wide smirk and placed it on the ground before she wrapped it up in the blanket, before she picked it back up with a wide grin.

She was then about to leave with it, before she had a look of surprise appear on her face for a brief moment which soon turned into a smug grin, as she turned around and saw Naruto and Carmen leaning against the wall on the other side of the room, while dressed in their mission clothes, with their hats obscuring their faces.

"I don't think that belongs to you," Naruto said.

"It does now" the woman said smugly, before she ran towards the doors.

Naruto and Carmen ran towards her and tried to grab her, but they missed.

Carmen then activated her grappling gun and fired it at the door handle, which she used to pull the door closed.

The woman had a look of annoyance appear on her face, before she grinned and jumped on the rope of the grappling gun and used it to jump high into the air, causing Carmen to stumble slightly, as she kicked the window above the door open, and once she landed on the ground, she took off running again, as Naruto and Carmen pushed the doors open and were right behind her.

As the woman ran out of the museum grounds, she crossed the street and jumped over a wire gate in an alleyway, before she continued to run.

She soon noticed that she was heading towards the festival, before she narrowed her eyes with a smirk, as she exited the alley. She then looked around for a moment, then she saw a stand next to her that was selling hats, as she grabbed one and put it on her head, before she walked off with a triumphant look on her face, thinking that she'd given Naruto and Carmen the slip.

But what she didn't know was that Naruto and Carmen were watching her from the rooftops, a smirk on their faces, as they followed her.

(Inside a room)

A woman was sat at a desk, as she typed on her laptop. She had her hair done up in a high bun, with earrings on her ears and she wore a purple dress, and the room was filled with what looked like expensive pieces of art.

"Did someone order an original Frida Kahlo?" the woman with the painting asked with a grin, as she entered the room and walked over to the desk, as she placed the painting on it before she sat in a chair and placed her feet on the desk, while pulling out her phone to scroll through it.

The woman behind the desk gave a smile at this, as she closed her laptop and picked up the painting as she gave a hum of approval with a raised eyebrow. "Well done" she said, before she stood up and pulled out a small notebook and opened it, and ran her finger down a page for a moment. "I know just the buyer for it" she said, before she walked around the desk while putting the notebook away.

"Good to know" the face painted woman said absently, as she began taking pictures of herself with her phone.

The woman in the dress gave a slight chuckle at this, as she waved the woman's feet off the desk while leaning against it. "Though, a masterpiece such as 'Self Portrait with Monkey' is certain to fuel a bidding war" she said with a grin, as she picked up the painting, before she noticed that part of it was folded up the back, causing her to frown.

"Is there something wrong?" the face painted woman asked curiously, as she stopped taking pictures of herself, while the woman in the purple dress handed her the revealed fake.

"You have been duped," the woman said with a scowl, as she walked away from the desk.

The face painted woman raised an eyebrow at this, before she unfolded the back part, seeing that it was really a poster for the painting.

A look of concern appeared on her face, before she stood up and smiled confidently. "Then I'll just go back and steal another" she said, as she looked at the woman in the dress, who was looking out a window.

"Not tonight, there is too much risk" the woman said, as she glanced over her shoulder slightly, causing the face painted woman to scowl.

"I can get in and out, no one will know I was there," the girl with the face paint said with a smirk.

The woman in the dress turned around sharply at this, causing the girl to jump slightly. "Someone clearly knew that you were coming the first time," she said with a scowl.

The girl gave a sigh at this, as she looked at the floor, before she looked up as the woman walked over to her.

"Sonia, you know that I want what's best for you" the woman said, as she cupped Sonia's chin and lifted her head up slightly. "Have you considered my offer?" the woman asked with a small smile.

"Vocational school? Boring" Sonia said with a flat tone and a roll of her eyes.

"As I have explained to you before, this isn't just any vocational school. Do you not want financial security?" the woman asked her.

Sonia scoffed at this. "I already make plenty of money," she said, as she looked off to the side.

The woman gave a sigh at this, as she placed her hand on Sonia's shoulder, causing Sonia to look at her. "I'm talking longer term, Sonia. Because I really do believe that you are meant for more" she said with a grin.

Sonia gave a shrug at this. "I'll think about it," she said, before she walked towards the door.

"Let me know, tomorrow" the woman said firmly, as she walked back over to her desk. "And Sonia, no museum visits."

Sonia turned around and gave a short nod at this with a small frown, before she walked off.

The woman then sat down and pulled out a phone with a grin, before she hit the speed dial, which caused Countess Cleo to appear on the phone.

{"Ah, Miss Contreras"} Cleo said with a smile.

As Sonia exited the building and walked down the street, Naruto and Carmen were on a rooftop opposite as they watched her go.

"Now this doesn't look suspicious at all," Naruto said sarcastically, as Carmen used her compact computer to take a picture of the building Sonia came out of and sent it to Player.

"Player, see if you can turn up any intel on this address, while we track our junior art enthusiast" Carmen said, as she put the compact computer away.

{"Aye aye, matey"} Player said in a pirate-like voice.

"Um, excuse me?" Naruto asked curiously, as he and Carmen both raised an eyebrow at this.

"Uh, I mean, I'm on it" Player said with a salute, while wearing a pirate hat, an eyepatch over one eye and a stuffed parrot on his shoulder.

Naruto and Carmen just shook their heads at this, before they followed Sonia.

Meanwhile, back inside the room Sonia left, an interesting conversation was happening.

"Cleo, do you happen to recall that talented young art thief that I've been grooming? I fear that she has reached the limits of her potential without the proper training. I consider Sonia to be an ideal candidate for the academy" Miss Contreras said with a smirk.

{"Well then, we are in luck. With the delays caused by the move, classes will begin with the winter quarter this year"} Cleo said with a small frown.

Miss Contreras gave a smile upon hearing this. "Give me 24 hours to see if she'll bite," she said with a grin.

(With Sonia)

Sonia was walking along a street, before she entered an apartment building and climbed the stairs and headed towards one of the apartment's doors.

Once she reached the door, Sonia pulled out a key and used it to unlock the door, before she opened the door and entered her apartment, then closed it behind her.

After taking off her shoes and leaving them at the door, Sonia walked over to a bookshelf that was under a window that had purple curtains, which had a picture of a baby girl and her parents in the middle, with a large cake that had her name on it. There was a vase of flowers on either side of it, two large candles and a small plate of food in front of it.

Sonia adjusted some of the flowers and the curtains, before she picked up a box of matches and lit one of the candles with a sad look on her face.

Sonia smiled slightly at the photo, as she ran her fingers over it.

"You must really miss them," Carmen said from behind her, causing Sonia's eyes to widen in shock before she turned around with a frown, and saw Naruto and Carmen walking towards her.

"Yeah, we know how ya feel, Sonia" Naruto said with a nod at her.

"Hey, how do you know my - never mind" Sonia was saying with a frown, before she stopped and looked at the picture, then walked over to them, with her hand held out at them. "Where's my painting?"

"Where it belongs, in the museum," Carmen said.

"Who are you anyway, the art police?" Sonia asked with a scowl, as she crossed her arms.

"We're not here to turn you in," Naruto said with a cocked eyebrow.

Sonia scoffed at this, before she walked past them. "I'm outta here" she said, as she left her apartment, with Naruto and Carmen watching her go.

"We're gonna follow her, right?" Carmen asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yep, as she might try and steal something else, either from another building or from someone" Naruto said, as they both ran after Sonia.

Once they were out of the building, they looked around, before seeing her quickly walking down the street, causing them to jog after her.

"Sonia, look we get it, fending for yourself and living on your own ain't easy, but there are other ways to make ends meet" Carmen said, as she and Naruto walked on either side of Sonia, who glanced over her shoulder at them both with a glare.

"Hey, stealing pays well, and I happen to be pretty good at it. And besides, it's not like I'm hurting anybody" Sonia said with a grin and a shrug, as she swiped a wallet from a woman's bag, as she walked past.

"Trust us, stealing does hurt people" Naruto said, as he took the wallet from Sonia, who had a look of surprise at this, and he ran over to the woman, as he quietly and carefully placed it back in her bag, before heading back to stand next to Carmen.

"Wait, your thieves too?" Sonia asked with a look of confusion and a raised eyebrow, before she gave a frown as she turned and walked away. "But why didn't you steal the painting? Don't you know how much you could get for that thing?"

"Yeah, we do. But then we'd be preventing museum visitors from seeing an amazing cultural treasure" Carmen said, as Sonia swiped a golden watch from a man sitting at a restaurant, which Carmen swiped back from her, before placing it back on the man's wrist.

Sonia turned around with a smug look on her face, while holding her hands up to show off the watch that she'd taken, only for a look of shock to appear on her face, as she noticed that she didn't have it anymore.

Naruto and Carmen gave Sonia a smile. "Listen, you can go to school and -" Naruto was saying, before he was cut off.

"What is it with school tonight? Everyone is wanting me to go" Sonia said with a groan of annoyance, as raised an eyebrow.

Naruto and Carmen looked at each other for a moment, before looking back at Sonia. "What kind of school?" they asked together with narrowed eyes.

"A vocational one. Imports, exports, something like that" Sonia said with a shrug, as she turned around and tried to walk off, before Naruto grabbed her wrist.

"Trust us, you don't know what you're getting yourself into," Naruto said, as Sonia pulled herself free from him.

"Yeah. This school would lead you down the wrong path" Carmen said with a nod of agreement,

Sonia narrowed her eyes at this. "And how do you….Wait, you both went there, didn't you?" she asked with a wide grin.

"Crap" Naruto said with a frown, as they looked away.

"Heh. Well, now, I definitely want to go" Sonia said excitedly.

"What? No" Carmen and Naruto both said together with a scowl.

"Hey, I've seen what the two of you can do. If this school can teach me cool stuff, then I'm so in" Sonia said with a wide smile, as she crossed her arms.

"This school might seem cool at first, but they would eventually order you to cross a line that you never thought you'd cross," Carmen said with an unhappy look on her face.

"And once you'd cross that line, there'd be no turning back," Naruto added with a frown, as he placed his hand on Sonia's shoulder.

Sonia had wide eyes at this, as she looked at Naruto's hand on her shoulder, before she pushed his hand off. "Thanks for the career advice" she said with a grin and a raised eyebrow, before she walked off.

Naruto and Carmen watched Sonia walk away, both with frowns on their faces.

{"Guys, the address of that building belongs to a high-end art collector, who goes by the name Marta Contreras. Shadowsan confirms that she traffics in stolen art for VILE"} Player said in their comms, as they watched Sonia walk by a stall, where she took a straw hat off it, before turning around and bowing at them then took off round the corner.

"All these heists were tryouts!" Carmen and Naruto exclaimed in shock with wide eyes.

"And Sonia fits the profile. She's young, skilled and orphaned. And we're not about to let VILE recruit her" Carmen said with a scowl.

"Indeed we're not," Naruto said with his own scowl and a nod of agreement.

(At VILE Castle)

The four Faculty members were each looking at the pumpkin carvings that they'd done, and left them where they each sat.

"And for our next spooktacular activity, I present to you…." Professor Maelstrom said with a grin, as he gestured to a large cauldron nearby, which was filled with some sort of liquid while something floated in it.

Coach Brunt looked into the cauldron with a raised eyebrow.

"Those do not look like apples" Dr Bellum said, as she too looked inside the cauldron, with Maelstrom and Cleo walking over.

"A most astute observation, Alien Space Commander Bellum. Bobbing for haggis, anyone?" Gunnar asked with a wide smile.

Countess Cleo gave a gasp at this. "Sheep's innards? I've never tried them before" she said with a smile.

Gunnar smiled widely at this. "Scotland's national dish, seasoned to perfection. You first, Cowpoke" he said to Brunt with a grin.

Coach Brunt looked nervous at this, as she gave a gulp. "Um, I don't think that -" she was saying with a nervous smile, before she was cut off.

"You'll never know whether you like it, if you don't try" Maelstrom said with an evil smirk, with Brunt sweating slightly, as she bit her bottom lip while looking at the cauldron. She then gave another nervous gulp, before she placed her hands on the edge of the cauldron and lowered herself down with her mouth open, while Saira and Cleo watched from the side curiously, as Gunnar watched with an evil grin.

As Coach Brunt got closer, she slightly retched when she smelled one of the sheep's innards, before swallowing it as she was sweating even more, while Professor Maelstrom's grin got even wider.

Brunt looked at the haggis as she was nearly there, when….

DING-DONG!

The doorbell of the castle rang.

"I'll get it!" Brunt yelled, as she quickly stood back up and ran towards the door.

"Now, whomever could that be?" Cleo asked curiously.

Coach Brunt opened the door, and saw that it was the Cleaners dressed up in their own Halloween costumes; with Vlad dressed as Count Dracula and Boris dressed as Frankenstien.

"Trick….or treat" Vlad then Boris said, in the voices that fit with their costumes.

(Back in Mexico City)

Marta was sat at her desk, writing something down in her notebook, before she placed it and her glasses down on her desk. She then got up and walked over to the windows, as she closed one that was open….causing a look of surprise to appear on her face, as she saw Naruto and Carmen standing behind her in the reflection, who were both glaring at her.

She soon composed herself, and grinned over her shoulder at them. "Naruto Uzumaki and Carmen Sandiego. I should have surmised that you were responsible for the fake" she said.

"We're here about Sonia. You need to forget that you ever knew her" Carmen said, as they both scowled at her.

"And why on earth would I do that?" Miss Contreras asked with a smirk, as she turned around.

"Client list?" Naruto asked as they both gave smirks of their own, as he held up the notebook that she'd left on the desk. "It would be such a shame if it fell into the wrong hands."

Marta narrowed her eyes at this, before she smiled. "You are clever, Naruto and Carmen. May I call you that?" she asked, as she walked past them, with Naruto putting the notebook in his jacket as they turned around. "But the two of you do have one flaw" Miss Contreras said, as she glanced over her shoulder at them with a grin.

"Oh? And that would be?" Carmen asked, as they both cocked an eyebrow at this while crossing their arms.

"You both care too much. You can not save everyone, you know. Or everything" Marta said with a smirk, causing Naruto and Carmen to narrow their eyes at her.

Miss Contreras then stood next to a small statue, before placing her hand on it. "Take this one of a kind pre Columbian artefact, for example. Quite exquisite, no? But anything is disposable, for a price" she said with a smirk, as she grabbed the statue and threw it up into the air.

"No!" Naruto and Carmen both yelled out as they ran forward, and caught the item just as it fell down before it hit the floor….which caused them to get zapped by it, before they fell to the floor knocked out, while dropping the item.

"Guys, are you there?" Player asked curiously, as he saw Naruto and Carmen's hat icons flashing on his computer screen, before they disappeared.

{"Naruto? Carmen?"} Player asked over their comms, as Marta walked over to them and took her book back from Naruto, before she walked past them.

She then looked around for a moment, before she looked at a large jar that she was standing next to and smirked as she placed it inside it.

She then pulled out her VILE phone and hit the speed dial, causing Countess Cleo to appear on the phone's screen again. {"Ah Marta. You must have the recruit"} she said with a grin.

"Even better," Miss Contreras said with a smirk, as she looked at the unconscious forms of Naruto and Carmen.

(Meanwhile)

As all this was going on, Zack and Ivy were walking in the streets of the city, as they'd enjoyed the festivities.

"Ooh, Ivy! How many tacos is too many tacos?" Zack asked with a groan, as he held his stomach.

"Maybe just once, bro, you should try not eating like you're trying to win a contest" Ivy said with a scowl, as Zack had a look of discomfort on his face.

Before either of them could say anything, Ivy's phone rang, causing them both to stop walking, as Ivy answered her phone. {"Guys, I lost contact with Naruto and Carmen"} Player said over the phone, causing them both to gasp in shock at this.

"Where were they last?" Zack asked.

{"I'll guide you both to their last location. Hopefully they'll both still be there"} Player said.

"Thanks Player" Ivy said, as she and Zack ran off, with Player giving them directions.

After a while, they arrived at the building that Naruto and Carmen entered.

"Is this the place?" Zack asked, as he and Ivy looked at the building.

{"Yep, that's the last place where Naruto and Carmen's signals were before they disappeared, which was on the second floor of the building"} Player said over the phone.

"Come on, they might need some help" Ivy said, as she ran into the building.

"Hey, wait for me sis" Zack said, as he ran after her.

The two of them raced up the stairs and headed towards a closed door, which Ivy shoved open by slamming her shoulder against it.

"Carm? Ruto?" Ivy shouted out, as she and Zack looked around the room. "They must have moved them, there's no one here" she said into her phone.

Player looked at his computer screens, seeing that nothing was coming up on them. "I can't track their location, but they did mention a client list. Do either of you see any loose papers, or maybe even a book?" he asked with narrowed eyes.

"Naruto and Carmen have both gone missing, and you want us searching for some stupid book?" Ivy asked with a frown, as she walked around the room while looking around it.

"It's a roadmap to a whole lot of priceless art. And you know that Naruto and Carmen are gonna want it" Player said with a firm tone.

Ivy frowned at this, as she looked off to the side. "Okay, me and Zack will look for it now" she said after a moment of silence, before she hung up and they both began looking around the office.

(On the road)

A car was seen driving on the road, with Marta behind the wheel.

As she drove along, her phone began ringing, causing her to smile widely at this, as she pressed a button on the centre console to answer it. "Sonia. I hope this means that you've given my offer more thought" she said with a smile.

Sonia was seen in her apartment, standing before a mirror. "I'm in" she said into her phone with a firm tone.

{"Excellent. Pack a bag. Our flight leaves for the school at dawn,"} Miss Contreras said.

Sonia hung up and placed her phone on the table, before she picked up a wet face wipe and used to clean the face make up off her face before placing the straw hat she'd taken from the stall back on her head. "School is gonna be cool" she said with a smirk.

(Back with the siblings)

Ivy looked around the office, opening drawers and cupboards, while looking for a book or pieces of paper that might look like a list.

"Hey, I could use some help here, bro!" Ivy said with an annoyed look and tone, as she glanced over at Zack, who was walking around the office, still holding his stomach as he did.

"Ugh. I don't feel….too good" Zack groaned out, before he quickly put his hands to his mouth as his cheeks bulged out slightly, as he ran over to a large jar.

Before he could do anything, he noticed something at the bottom of it, causing him to look over at Ivy and make mumbling noises while pointing at the jar.

"What?" Ivy asked, as she ran over and put her arm in the jar to grab what was at the bottom, which happened to be the book Marta had hidden in the jar.

"And Bingo was his Name-o!" Ivy said with a wide smile and a fist pump, as she walked away….just as Zack threw up inside the jar.

"Phew, so much better," Zack said with a smile, as he walked over to Ivy.

Before they could do anything else, the door to the office opened up, causing them both to quickly turn around, while Ivy hid the book underneath her shirt.

"Well well, who do we have here?" Miss Contreras asked, as she walked inside.

Zack and Ivy both made momentary looks of surprise on their faces, before they scowled at her. "Where are Naruto and Carmen?" Ivy asked.

"What did you do to them?" Zack asked, as he raised a fist.

"They were both here, and then they left," Marta said with a shrug, as she walked over to the small statue she tricked Naruto and Carmen with. "But they did take a rather keen interest in this treasure. A one of a kind pre Columbian artefact."

Marta then flicked a switch on the back of it, causing electricity to briefly appear under the switch, showing that it was on. She then gave a smirk as she grabbed it and threw it in the air….before it fell and cracked to pieces on the floor.

Zack and Ivy looked at it for a moment, before looking at Miss Contreras. "Hope that wasn't worth a lot" Ivy said, as she gestured at it.

Marta gave a frown at this, before she smirked. "Anyway, you are much too late. Your friends are about to catch a flight" she said with a wide grin.

Zack and Ivy both gained looks of shock at this, before they ran off out of the room.

Miss Contreras gave a chuckle, as she walked to the jar where she'd hidden the notebook "One which you'll never make on time" she said, as she put her hand into the jar….before her eyes widened as she felt her hand in Zack's puke.

Marta gagged at this, before swallowing the bile in her throat as she moved her hand about, while holding her breath as she tried to find the notebook.

After a while, she began retching as she looked at the jar, before she stood up straight. "My book!" she exclaimed in shock.

(At the airport)

Sonia was walking towards a large plane with a duffle bag over her shoulder, which had its back ramp open, showing Spinkick and Flytrap were waiting for her at the top of the ramp into the plane, both with smirks on their faces.

"You must be Sonia" Spinkick said as he looked at her, before he jumped down and kicked out at her, causing her hair to move slightly but she didn't flinch, as she had an unimpressed look on her face.

"I'm Spinkick" Spinkick said, as he backed away.

"And I'm Flytrap. What's your thing?" Flytrap asked curiously.

"Uh, my thing?" Sonia asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah. You know, your skill" Flytrap said with a cocked eyebrow, as she tossed her poncho over her shoulder and took out one of her bolas from one of her pouches before spinning it.

"Oh. It would be this, I guess" Sonia said with a smile, as she held up Spinkick's boot that he'd used to kick at her.

Spinkick and Flytrap both had looks of surprise at this, as they saw that it was removed from Spinkick's foot.

Spinkick frowned at this, as he took it back and put it back on. "Cute. Come on, it'll be wheels up soon" he said, as they all walked onto the plane.

Once Sonia had got onto the plane, she saw that Naruto and Carmen were tied to the seats along the side of the plane, with a cloth wrapped around their mouths, along with their hats and coats being removed.

The two of them watched Sonia, as she walked with Spinkick and Flytrap, who narrowed her eyes at them, before she stood in front of them.

"Check out our precious cargo" Spinkick said with a grin, as he gestured at the two.

"Is this the kind of thing we learn at school?" Sonia asked, as she dropped her bag on the floor.

"Oh yea" Flytrap said with a smirk, her hand on her hip.

"Cool" Sonia said, as she looked at Naruto and Carmen with a blank look, causing the both of them to widen their eyes at this, as Sonia sat down and strapped herself in.

Spinkick and Flytrap both chuckled at this, before Spinkick went and closed up the ramp, while Flytrap went over to a phone that was hung on the wall, as she picked it up. "We're all aboard and ready for takeoff," she said into it, just as the ramp closed up.

{"Roger that. We've just been given clearance for takeoff"} one of the pilots said, as the propellers began starting up on the wings, as the pilot and co-pilot began pressing buttons, flipping switches and turning dials, before the plane started moving down the runway.

As this was happening, a jeep drove onto the runway, before chasing after the plane.

Flytrap was walking past a window, before she looked out if it, and gained a look of surprise at what she saw, which was the jeep driving next to the plane. "Hey, were we expecting other students?" she asked curiously, as Spinkick came over and looked out the window himself with wide eyes.

Zack was driving the jeep as fast as it would go, while Ivy stood on the back seats, as Zack drove the jeep as close to the plane as possible.

"Keep it steady so that I can get aboard!" Ivy yelled out.

"To do what, exactly?!" Zack yelled back at her.

"I don't know! I'm just trying to think what Carmen and Naruto would do if it was me in there. And I know that they'd get on that plane" Ivy said with determination, as she grabbed the jeep's railing, getting ready to jump….before a bola was wrapped around her, trapping her arms at her sides, causing her to fall onto the seats. Ivy squirmed a bit, before she looked at the front of the plane. "Head's up Zack" she said in warning.

Zack raised an eyebrow at this, as he looked at the plane, before he had to quickly duck his head slightly, as a bola flew over him, as Spinkick and Flytrap stood at an open door, with Flytrap spinning another bola.

Naruto and Carmen were both looking at the door the two VILE agents were at, when they both turned around and saw Sonia next to them, her finger at her lips, telling them to be quiet. "It's okay, I was only playing along" she said, as she removed their gags.

"You found that line you couldn't cross pretty quickly," Naruto said with a grin.

"Or maybe I just don't feel like going to a school for losers" Sonia said with a grin of her own, before she began untying them.

Meanwhile, Zack was still driving alongside the plane, making sure that Flytrap's bolas didn't catch him, as Ivy had finally got loose from the one that had tied her up. She stood up on the seats with a glare, just as the plane took off.

"No, no!" Ivy yelled out in worry, with her hand stretched out towards the plane.

"Guys!" Zack yelled in concern.

Naruto, Carmen and Sonia looked out of the windows, with Sonia having a look of worry on her face.

"Um, next time I'll try and make any crucial decisions before the plane takes off," Sonia said with a sheepish look and tone, as she moved away from the windows.

"Quick, grab a parachute. We need to bail" Carmen said, as both she and Naruto had frowns on their faces.

Sonia nodded at this with a frown of her own, as they ran towards where the parachutes were.

But before they could grab the parachutes, a bola wrapped around Naruto and Carmen's wrist and the metal beams of the rack the parachutes were on, trapping them in place before another wrapped around their waist, trapping their other arm, which caused them to look at the front of the plane, and see that Spinkick and Flytrap were there.

"Hey! Aren't you supposed to be on our side?!" Spinkick yelled out with a scowl, as Flytrap was spinning a bola in her hand, before she reached into a pouch and grabbed another one with a smirk on her face.

"Eh, first day crime school dropout" Sonia said with a smile, as she shrugged her shoulders while holding a parachute in her hand.

Flytrap threw both of her bolas at Sonia, while Spinkick ran behind them with a yell.

Sonia then quickly grabbed another parachute off the rack, and threw them both at the bolas, causing the bolas to wrap around them instead, before she had to dodged Spinkick's punches, before he sent a kick at her, which sent her into the rack the parachutes were on, causing many to fall off.

Sonia stood and had a smirk on her face, as she held up Spinkick's shoe.

"Hey! That's my shoe!" Spinkick exclaimed in shock and anger. "Give it back!"

"Sure, here ya go" Sonia said with a grin, as she then threw the shoe at him with a scowl, causing Spinkick to lean to the side to dodge it, before he spun around with a double spin kick.

Sonia moved back to dodge the first kick, before she moved to the side to dodge the second one, causing Spinkick to pull the lever down that his foot hit….which opened the ramp at the back of the plane.

Everyone had looks of shock and surprise at this, as anything and everything that wasn't held in place got swept out.

Spinkick jumped back before he was taken, but Sonia wasn't as lucky, as she fell to the floor and tried to grab hold of something, as she was dragged towards the back of the plane, before she was able to grab hold of a hole in the floor.

Spinkick landed near Flytrap, and looked at her with a frown, who gave him a look of concern.

After everything that wasn't strapped down had flown out of the plane, Sonia looked out of the ramp before she stood up and ran towards Naruto and Carmen. "Er, parachutes usually work best when you're wearing them, right?" she asked with a sheepish look, as she helped untie the bolas from them.

Seeing this, Spinkick and Flytrap ran over with a yell.

Meanwhile, in the cockpit, the pilots were flying the plane along, when Miss Contreras appeared on a screen, an unhappy look on her face. {"Turn that plane around immediately! I need those operatives to retrieve my blackbook"} she said with a firm look and tone.

One of the pilots nodded at this, before he and his co-pilot turned the plane, which caused it to tilt to the side.

This also caused Spinkick and Flytrap to be sent stumbling in the back of the plane, as Spinkick grabbed hold of a crate held in place, while Flytrap hit the side of the plane, causing her to drop her bola, which ended up at Naruto's feet, just as the plane levelled out, who used his foot to toss it up into his hand, as Sonia had freed him and Carmen from the bolas holding their arms against their waists.

Naruto looked at Sonia who backed away with a smile, as Naruto gave a wide smirk, as he spun the bola over his head, causing Flytrap and Spinkick to look worried, before he threw it, causing it to ricochet around, with Spinkick having to duck as it flew over him, as it cut through some straps holding a large box in place, before ending up at Flytrap's feet.

"That's not how it works," Flytrap said with a smirk, before the plane tilted to the side again, causing the box to hit Flytrap and trap her against the side of the room, while also knocking her out.

"Heh, I put my own spin on it," Naruto said with a snicker, before he and Carmen began untying the bolas holding them to the racks, with Sonia helping them.

Meanwhile, Zack and Ivy were both worried and concerned, with Zack pacing about slightly while Ivy sat on the side of the jeep, before Zack lifted his head up with a cocked eyebrow as he heard a droning noise, and looked up to see that the plane was coming back. "Whoa! Ivy!" he shouted out to be heard over the noise.

Ivy looked up with a raised eyebrow and a curious look on her face, as the plane flew over them, before they both hopped into the jeep and chased after it, as it began landing.

On the plane, Naruto and Carmen were free from the bolas holding them to the racks, rubbing their wrists slightly while smiling at Sonia, before they saw Spinkick jump over the box, that was keeping Flytrap trapped, as he fell down at them with his leg stretched out and a yell.

Naruto and Carmen frowned up at him, as they pushed Sonia back, just as Spinkick hit the floor, causing them both to dodge him, with Carmen having jumped up the racks while holding on to them as Naruto had rolled to the side.

Carmen then landed back on the floor and sent a sidekick at him, which he blocked, before he and Carmen began sending punches and kicks at each other.

Naruto got up off the floor and rushed over to help his girlfriend, but even with it being two on one, Spinkick was doing quite well in fending them both off.

Spinkick leapt in the air and sent a kick at both their heads, which they ducked under, but this turned out to be a trick, as Spinkick then sent reverse spin kicks at them both, causing them to hunch over while holding their stomachs in pain.

They raised an arm each, to protect themselves from a kick that Spinkick sent at them, before they looked at him weakly, seeing that he was smirking confidently at them, as he raised his leg to send a kick….before Sonia charge tackled him from behind, causing him to stumble.

Naruto and Carmen both quickly capitalised on this, as they both grabbed hold of the railing of the racks to pull themselves up, while wrapping their legs around him, keeping his arms pinned.

"Hey!" Spinkick yelled out, as he struggled to get free, as Sonia ran over to where she left her bag and picked it up, before throwing it over her shoulder with a grin.

"Let me go!" Spinkick shouted, as he kept on trying to get loose from Naruto and Carmen's legs wrapped around him.

"Heh, sure thing" Carmen said with a smirk, as she and Naruto unwrapped their legs and pushed him forward, before letting go of the railing on the rack to drop down. Spinkick glared over his shoulder at them, before he looked forward and gained a look of worry, as Sonia swung her bag at his head, which sent him flying towards a locker, that knocked him out and caused the door to open, showing Naruto and Carmen's hats and coats were hung up inside it.

"Ah, so that's where you've been hiding" Naruto said as he and Carmen smiled, while Sonia walked over to them.

"Come on, let's get dressed so that we can blow this popsicle stand" Carmen said, as she walked over to the locker, before putting her hat and coat on.

"I couldn't agree more, babe," Naruto said, as he followed her before putting his own hat and coat on.

Soon after they put their respective hats and coats on, the plane came to a stop.

"Come on, let's get outta here" Carmen said, as she walked towards the still open ramp.

"But how are we gonna leave? There's no vehicles about, and I'm sure that we can't outrun them" Sonia said in concern.

Before either of them could respond, they heard a knock on the ramp of the plane, which caused the three of them to look over and see Zack and Ivy standing there, both with grins on their faces.

"Hey guys, you need a lift?" Ivy asked with a smile.

"One way express away from VILE" Zack said with a chuckle.

"Oh, you guys are a godsend," Naruto said with a wide smile, as he and the two girls ran down the ramp and hopped in the jeep with Zack and Ivy, before Zack quickly drove off.

Meanwhile, in the cockpit of the plane, Marta had a hard scowl on her face. {"Well? Have the operatives been dispatched yet?"} she asked impatiently.

Both pilots looked at each other, not sure how to answer, while in the cargo area, Flytrap and Spinkick both woke up and looked around with wide eyes, seeing that there was no one else there with them.

(With the group)

Zack drove the jeep along a road heading for the city, with Ivy in the passenger seat while Naruto, Carmen and Sonia sat in the back, with Naruto and Carmen leaning against each other.

"And check it out fellas. We scored that client list you were after" Zack said with a grin, as Ivy held it up.

"Yeah! Go us!" Ivy yelled out with a wide smile and a double fist pump.

"So you guys run around tripping up thieves and stealing back stolen things?" Sonia asked in confusion with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah, pretty much," Carmen said with a grin.

"Righting the world's wrongs. It's our jam" Naruto said with his own grin.

"So, where to next fellas?" Zack asked curiously, as they entered the city.

Naruto and Carmen both looked at each for a moment, before looking at Sonia.

"Do you know where the cemetery that everyone goes to is, to pay their respects or honour their loved ones during the Day of the Dead?" Carmen asked with a curious look.

"Um, yea, I know where it is. Why do you ask?" Sonia asked with a cocked eyebrow.

"Because we both have someone to honour and pay our respects to," Naruto said.

Sonia gave a nod at this, as she directed Zack on where to go.

(Later)

Once the group had arrived at the cemetery, they all climbed out of the jeep and headed towards where people had laid down photos of their loved ones and gifts for said loved ones, while Sonia walked off.

Naruto and Carmen both opened up their lockets and knelt on the ground, as they placed them down amongst other photos.

"Is it odd to honour the memories of someone that we don't actually remember?" Carmen asked.

"Yeah, it kinda feels weird," Naruto said with a nod.

Ivy placed her hands on their shoulders, as she knelt down next to them. "Neither of you ever got to know your dads, but you'll find your mothers, guys. They're both out there, somewhere" she said reassuringly, before she stood back up.

Naruto and Carmen looked at their photos for a moment, before they both grinned and stood back up.

"Where is that black book?" Carmen asked Ivy with a smile.

"Yea, we've got some stolen art to liberate," Naruto said with a nod at this.

Ivy began stuffing her hands in her pockets, before she began patting herself down, as a look of worry appeared on her face. "What? No, it's gone! Guys, I swear that I had it" she said to them.

Naruto and Carmen both smiled, as they looked at each other knowingly.

(With Sonia)

Sonia was back in her apartment, as she looked at the black book that she'd grabbed from Ivy's pocket.

"I stole em' so it's only right that I steal em' back" Sonia said with a grin, as she gained a determined look on her face, as she walked out of her apartment. And once she exited the building, she stopped to untie her hair, letting it hang free down her back, before she walked off.

(At VILE Castle)

The Faculty were seated at the high table, with Spinkick and Flytrap on the large screen in front of them.

"So you're telling us that you lost Carmen Sandiego, Naruto Uzumaki and our new recruit?" Coach Brunt asked with a scowl, which caused them both to divert their eyes, as she slammed her fist on her pumpkin with a yell, causing it to break into pieces and spread all over herself, the other Faculty members, part of the back wall, the table and their chairs.

"Worst. Halloween. Ever" Cleo said with a flat tone and a frown, as Brunt panted heavily.

"But, Halloween isn't over until it's over, my undead queen. Have you forgotten that the Cleaners are currently enroute to New Orleans, for what promises to be an even great haunt" Maelstrom said with a smirk.

Authors Note: To those who want me to lemon/sex scenes in every chapter or so, I can't as I need to find the right time/moment to do them. Such as, on their plane, in a hotel room or in a train's sleeping carriage. So please, stop asking me to keep adding them, as I'll do them when I please.
