Time goes on

2069

Looking back, Sally Tracy knew that she had lived a rather extraordinary life, full of many experiences most people would never experience.

How many people could claim to be the mother of one of the most famous people on the planet, the first man on Mars, and then have grandchildren that helped save the lives of people that otherwise couldn't be saved by normal means?

Not that all those experiences were good mind - there were many days where she wished her beloved husband and daughter-in-law, were still with her and her family, that many of her old friends were still alive to experience some of her experiences with her…

But that was a part of growing old she guessed, people come and go from life, be it from people's paths crossing temporarily before moving in another direction never to be seen again, or they reached the end of their road, sometimes prematurely…

She knew she was reaching the end of her road…

Her grandsons, while they would undoubtedly miss her, would be fine…

They all had gotten married and had children in the last five years, their life course's were set and they were happy…

Speaking of her granddaughters-in-law, they had taken over the day to day running of the Tracy Island household years ago, leaving her to finally enjoy her retirement, and spend time with her great-grandchildren…

She wondered how much they would remember about her, or if they would remember her, Scout, the oldest was nearly four, and Kevin, the youngest, and very likely to be the last child that any her grandsons would have, unless John and Belle have another miracle, was only two months old…

But she just didn't have the strength to chase after them, not in the way she did their fathers, and a couple of their mothers…

She was worried about her son, even though she knew her grandsons would care for him, he constantly missed his wife, and even after all this time there would never be another woman that could ever fill the void Lucy left…

But her son still had a long and full life ahead of him, he had grandchildren to spoil, and with any luck he would also get a chance to potentially meet his own great-grandchildren, to see his boy's become grandparents themselves…

"It's time, Sweetheart," Grant told her softly. "Jeff and the boys will be okay, but it's time you came home to me."

Jeff was the one to find her the next morning, he had gone to check on her when she failed to come down to breakfast with the members of the family that hadn't left for an early morning rescue.

Sally Ruth Tracy had died peacefully in her sleep.

The private family funeral was held in Kansas a week later, where she was laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

She was 91
