The next day Mackenzie and his parents woke up early. He and his mum started packing for the day and then Mackenzie helped his dad to get his surfboard out of the garage and cleaned off the dust of it. After breakfast they left the house and road to the beach. His dad knew a remote spot where it was quiet and not many people would come.
They had a great time togheter. Mackenzie's dad failed miserably at surfing, much to the amusement of his son and wife. Mackenzie played with his father in the sea and together they build a giant sandcastle that Mackenzie proudly named Fort Collie.
Mackenzie's mum relaxed and sat in a chair she brought and spent the time reading various magazines, a book she promised herself to read and to have some short sleeps in between. Mackenzie's dad laid in the sand reading his magazine about motorsports and to sunbath inbetween while Mackenzie himself was busy digging holes around the beach. When they left he digged up to twelve holes. A record he was proud of. His dad at one point forgot his son's special hobby and felt into one of the holes when he really just wanted to reach the sea for a refreshing dip. When the heat really became unbearable they decided to leave. Mackenzie's mum helps her son to close and fill the holes while his dad took everything back to the car.

His parents decided to make a quick break at a mall nearby where they had lunch and a bathroom break. Unbeknownst to Mackenzie, when they entered the mall his parents spotted a giant electric digger in the toy shop. They both looked at each other and instantly had the same thought. As it was Mackenzie's 10th birthday soon they decided to buy it as a birthdaypresent. They knew he would love it. They also hoped that this would mean Mackenzie's paws would be damaged less and his fur would stay cleaner when he would dig in the garden or at the creek. A bit later when Mackenzie was standing in line with his mum to order their lunch, his father told him he had to go to the bathroom. In reality he went to the toy store, bought the digger and made a delivery appointment that the shop would deliver the present a day before Mackenzie's birthday. It was a day he would be at home and Mackenzie would be at school, so that was the perfect opportunity.

The family went back into the car and rode off to the botanic gardens. It had cooled down a bit and they strolled along the park. They ended they day at the lookout on top of Mount Coot-tha. The point of interest Mackenzie's mum's co-worker, Frisky, had suggested to visit. Mackenzie got a coin from his dad to use the binoculars. He was amazed at everything he could see from up there. He could see his school, Bluey's house, the former house of Winton and his dad (some blind dog was swimming in the pool now), the Hammerbarn, and other places he has visited over the years. Unfortunately he couldn't find his own house before the binoculars went black again. He went to sit down with his parents and his dad bought them all some ice cream. As they were happily sitting together on a bench they looked how the sun went down, closing the day.

At the time they decided to go home, Mackenzie felt very tired and sleepy. He managed to get himself in the Suzuki Jimny of his parents and his mum helped him fastening his seatbelt. His father went behind the wheel and his mum sat next to his dad. His father then drove off back to their home.

''So son, how did you like tihs day?'' His father asked interested with a smile while looking at his tired son in the mirror.

Mackenzie jumped up in his seat enthusiastically and gave his last bit of energy to his parents; ''It was great!'' he cheered. ''What a lovely day it was, i had so much fun. Can we go to that look out again some day? I just know that i can spot our house the next time with that telescope!''.

''Hahaha you mean binoculars. And yes ofcourse we can go back there soon. It's not that far.'' Mackenzie's dad said.

Mackenzie then slowly began to lose his battle at tiredness. He tried not to fall asleep but he couldn't help it. It was a long day. Before his eyes shut he wanted to say something for one reason to his parents.

''Mum, Dad?''

''Yes sweetheart?'' his mum said.

''Thank you for today. I really appreciated this. I love you both''.

Both his parents begin smiling from ear to ear and both said at the same time; ''We love you too Mackenzie.''

His dad added: ''No need to thank us, just hapy to hear you enjoyed your day''.

Mackenzie then finally felt asleep.
His mum turned around to look at her son. She was filled with love and pride. ''Awh, just look at our little pup. Completely burned up and tired''.

''Can't be surprised. Was a long day. A hot day on top of that'' her husband said. ''And we did a lot. He has walked a bit and then all that digging this morning on the beach'' his father chuckled thinking back of all those holes in the sand. ''He was quite busy today''.

Mackenzie's mum turned back. ''I am so glad you saw that electric digger in the shop. What will he be happy to receive that'' Mackenzie's mum said to her husband. ''Did you managed to let them deliver it to us?''.

''Yup, on the 9th so one day before his birthday. I'm home the whole day so i can collect i tand wrap it before he gets home from school''.

''Awesome planning of yours. That is why i love you'' she said after hearing that.

''What? Only for that you love me?'' he said a little bit teasing.

''Ahaha, i love you for more things and you know that''. She plucked the fur on his head while saying that, teasing him a bit. ''Do i need to give you some examples why i love you?''

''Yes, go on. I wonder why'' he said with a big grin on his face.

''Well, reason number one: being a awesome dad, two for being a great husband and three.. because you are a goofball. Hihi, you should have seen yourself on that surfboard this morning'' She laughed while thinking back to that.

Mackenzie's dad turned his eyes. ''Well thank you for that''.

''Only kidding. I love you dear'' she said.

''And i love you honey''. He said. They gave eachother a quick smootchy kiss'. She then got her phone and started playing a mobile game to pass the time while he focused back on the road before him.

After a couple of minutes however things started to change. The whole day was sunny and hot and all of the sudden without a warning the weather changed in an instance. Dark clouds began to form and a heavy rain began falling from the sky. Somewhere in the distance a dark grey pitbull was also surprised by the weather. He was riding in his Ford pick up truck and had it stacked with steel pole pipes for a project in his garden. Not only was he surprised by the weather, he was also very drunk. He went that afternoon to the Hammerbarn, bought the pipes and then went to a party. He drank to much beer and still decided that he was capable of driving. For some reason the Pitbull decided that all the other cars were riding to slow. So he stepped up the gas and decided to drive three times the permitted speed so he could reach his house earlier to drink more. Because that was all what was on his mind now.

It didn't take long before he lost control on the now very slippery road. His car beging spinning.
Just behind him was Mackenzie's dad driving. He saw the whole thing happening in front of him.

''My god what a fucking idiot!'' Mackenzie's dad shouted. ''Where is the police when you need them? This dent head should not be on the road''.
''Honey, be careful. Just go to the other side of the road before you hit him or he hits you'' his wife said calmly to him.

Mackenzie's dad was furious. 'That daft cunt clearly has to much alcohol. where does he get the courage from to think he can drive and bring others in to danger!''.
Mackenzie's dad then overtook the drunk pitbul and couldn't resist giving him the middle finger. The pitbull saw that and without a warning he angrily immediately crashed into the Border Collie's car on purpose. Mackenzie's mum screamed in fright, Mackenzie's dad immediately regretted what he did and it woke up Mackenzie. Mackenzie was still a bit sleep driven and didn't fully register what was going on. He only felt a bump and heard his mother's scream.

The pitbull tried another time to hit the Collie's car in rage but in doing so spinned again. The steel pole pipes this time came loose from his car and flew on the road in all directions. The pitbull did not tie them tightly to his car. Mackenzie's dad tried his best to avoid the falling steel pipes and swung in all directions while cursing as a sailor. But while he was trying to avoid them, he did not see that one steel pipe decided to go in a other direction. Instead of falling on the ground It flew right through the windshield of the car, hitting and impaling Mackenzie's dad.
Mackenzie was sitting behind his dad and nearly avoided being impaled himself. He instantly set up straight and was fully awake now; ''MUM! WHAT IS HAPPENING''? he screamed.

Mackenzie's dad was gasping for air while one of his hands reached out for his wife and landed on her leg. He let out one small, final scream and cough and then closed his eyes as he sank in his seat, falling over the steering wheel as his soul was leaving his body. The pitbull meanwhile spinned of the road into the railing. His car was totally wrecked and the impact caused him to be knocked unconscious.

Mackenzie's mum tried in despair to take over the steering wheel but it was jammed by the steel pipe that was still in her husband's body and wouldn't cooperate. The car drifted to the right and Mackenzie's mum saw what they were heading toward too; the back of a big, blue truck. Without hesitating she unbuckled her seatbelt and turned around to her son who was now in tears and confused. She basically jumped on him and held him tight against her body. Mackenzie was now under his mother and felt her warm fur against his body. She hold him tight against herself .

''Mackenzie, hold on thight and brace yourself'' she said confident but a little bit shaken and with fear in her voice. ''Everything will be alright, i'm here to protect you''.

''Mum what is happening?!'' Mackenzie shouted in tears.

''No worries Mackenzie. I'm here for you, always. And know that me and your dad love you to death''. She said while tears where running down her face now as well.

Then the car crashed with full speed into the back of the truck. A ball of flames appeared and engulfed everthing.

A perfect and fun family day abruptly came to a terrible end…
