It was dark. Completely dark. Everything was black. It was also very, very silent. You could hear a pin drop.
Suddenly a loud gasp was heard in the eerie silence. A pair of eyes went open and looked around. He could not see where he was. It was too dark for that. He started to panic but realised he couldn't move, how hard he tried. Suddenly he saw something white under him. He tried to figure out what it was he was staring at. It moved to the left, and then to the right. It went up and down. Suddenly he realised that it was one of his own paws, the white one on his right leg. He sighed with relief and chuckled about it a little. Then he noticed in the dark something else that was white. Both of his arms. Then little by little everything started to get lighter and he could see more about the environment he was in.
He felt his was sitting on something very uncomfortable. He looked down and noticed it was a bed with a very thin and raptured matras that was hanging from a wall with chains. He then noticed that he was in some kind of room made of green brick stones. Then suddenly he realised where he was when he noticed that the room had one door in it. A door made out of steel pipes. Big, shiny ones that formed bars. He was in a prison cell!
Makenzie flew from the bed and grabbed the bars and started shaking them. ''Help, help! Someone let me out! Why am i here?''
Suddenly he felt that his paws became wet. He looked at them and to his surprise they were dark red. He looked up and noticed a red liquid dripping from those steel bars he just grabbed. Mackenzie smelled it and turned white. It was blood…
''What… what is going on here?'' he said anxious.
Suddenly a dark brown German Shepherd appeared in a police uniform nd wearing thick black sunglasses on the other side of the bars.
''Shut up you little twat!'' shouted the German Shepherd. He then hits the bars with a big baton causing Mackenzie tos care and fall hard on the ground. The shepherd proceed to open the bars and stepped in to the cell. ''Come here, it's time for your deserved punishment''. He grabbed Mackenzie at his ear and pulled him out of the cell.
Mackenzie cried in pain. ''Ouch, let me go. Tell me why i am here'''.
The shepherd turned around and hit the Border Collie hard in the face. ''You know god damn well why you are here and what you have done! Don't pretend like you are innocent you rat!'' Mackenzie had tears running on his face as he felt his face swell.
The shepherd continued walking trough the halls of the jail while dragging Mackenzie over the ground holding his ear. Mackenzie felt like it could rip from his head any moment. To his unpleasant surprise he saw big, scary looking monsters and criminals in the other jails. They all booed him and called him nasty names. Mackenzie wondered why they did that. What had he done? He was wondering where his parents were and why they weren't here for him. Did they abandon him? Again?...
Suddenly the shepherd kicked open a big door and threw Mackenzie trough the open doorway. The collie flew screaming through the air and landed on a wooden chair behind a desk. Mackenzie grabbed his head and tried to see where he was. Suddenly a hamer started to knock. Mackenzie looked up and saw someone he recognised a bit. It was a yellow labrador and he looked like Lucky's father, the neighbor kid that lived next to Bluey where he and Bluey sometimes would play with when he would spend time at the Heelers residence.
''Silence please in the courtoom'' said Patrick as judge.
Mackenzie looked around him. He saw that he was in a big coutroom. It was so big that he could not even see the ceiling. It just went on and on. The floor was made of cold tiles in the same green color as the bricks in his prison cell. He sat alone in the middle behind a old table full of splinters.
''Today we have the case of Mackenzie vs the rest of Australia'' judge Patrick said. He looked full of anger at Mackenzie. ''I aspect that you know why you are here, don't you?''
The tears came back in Mackenzie's eyes. ''No.. no sir. Really i really don't know why i am here'' he cried.
It was followed by people sitting behind Mackenzie that he could not see booing at him and make sounds of disapproval. The judge closed his eyes and shook his head.
''Mackenzie Collie, you are because of your involvement in the tragic death of your parents'' the judge said.
Mackenzie could not believe what he was hearing. His parents were death and it was his fault? ''No. That is not true''!
''Shut up you killer'' Pat the judge snapped at him. ''Let's ask some witnesses about what kind of person you really are''.
Suddenly Rusty appeared sitting next to the judge in a witness booth.
''So Rusty'' said Pat. ''Tell us more about your black and white friend over there'' he pointed at Mackenzie who stared in disbelief at the scene that was unfolding in front of him.
''First of all. He was and will never be a friend of mine. I just tolerated him because he was in the same class as me'' Rusty said with a angrily expression on his face. ''He was a loser. At school he would only stare creepily at the sky while alone with his sad little mind or play barky boats with himself, not even inviting others to join him. And when he didn't to that, he would dig big holes in the sandbox. Like why?! Nobody else could play safely in there because of him. Everytime there was a change of other children fallen in to them. The fact that nobody broke a bone in all of those years is a fucking miracle to be honest''. Rusty was visible angry and spurted more. ''Hack, out of pity the girls sometimes let him play with them. Other times me and Jack had to drag him with us to play. He never wanted play army with us. I mean, he is a Border Collie. Aren't they supposed to love games that exciting and serious as that?. From that moment i knew he couldn't be trusted''.
Mackenzie was hurt by these words and stared in disbelief. He wanted to say something, but the judge cut him off.
''Í think we heard enough. Thank you Rusty'' Judge Pat said. ''And now the next witness..Jack Russel. Are you present?'' Rusty suddenly disappeared and Jack appeared in the witness booth.
''Here i am Judge, sir. Officer Russel reporting for duty''.
''Tell me Jack. What do you think of that monstrosity over there?'' asked Pat friendly towards Jack.
''Well. From the first time i met him i just knew there was something off with him. It's not that crazy when you think about it and his parents probably knew too. He is a only child. Probably meaning that he was so fucked up that his parents did not want other children, afraid they would turn out like him''.
If Mackenzie wasn't already hurt enough. He just sank further into his chair while he just listened to it all.
''Mackenzie had always the best results with tests. His reports were always so good. Too good if you ask me. Wouldn't suprise me if he cheated. He is not as smart as people think. Ha! He even once thought everyone jumped on sheep''. The whole court room started laughing at Mackenzie's expence.
''Right, thank you Jack. So not only a creep, loser and crazy but also just a dumb cheater. Noted'' said Pat. Jack then mysteriously disappeared like Rusty earlier. ''Any one else like to witness againt this bum''? asked Pat. Mackenzie shut his eyes. He wanted to cry but he felt like his eyes couldn't handle it no more.
Suddenly a high pitched voice answered the judge and said ''Yes. I do''.
Mackenzie opend his eyes. He reconised that voices from miles away. But he wished it wasn't here. He looked at the witness booth and to his dismay it was. There sat Bluey.
''What would you like to say about this critter'' asked Pat to Bluey.
Bluey sighed. ''I just wanted to say and make clear that i hate him. Nothing more and nothing less''.
Now Mackenzie really felt like a tree just fell on top of him. His heart shattered in a thousand pieces. The tears that didn't want to come just earlier suddenly came back and began pouring out of his eyes.
Bluey continued. ''He is a creep. I know he has a small crush on me and i'm disgusted by it. There i said it. And after what he did to his parents, i never want to see him again!'' she shouted full of anger. She did not look at him.
''Bluey.. please. I…i.. don't know what is happening. I don't know why i am here or what i have done. Please believe me. Please tell me what is going on!'' Mackenzie bagged and stood up from his chair. Bluey just turned away. He heard the people behind him shouting. They called him liar and murderer. He turned around and saw many people he knew. All of his classmates, his grandparents, his aunt, his cousins, Bluey's parents and Bingo, Jack's parents and sister, Rusty's whole family, Major Tom, Captain and Mia, Hercules, Lucky, Chucky, Stripe, Muffin, Socks, his neighbors and a lot of unknown dogs. All booed him.
''Enough'' judge Pat shouted. ''I came to a judgement. Let's make this one easy and quick. Mackenzie I hereby sentence you to death by firing squad''. He banged the gavel and the crowd started juicing.
'Noo.. no. No. No. No. This can't be happening!'' Mackenzie shouted in disbelief.
Suddenly he heard the sound of a gun clicking. He turned around to see Snickers loading a gun and pointing it at him. ''Wait Snickers, it's me. Please i didn't do anything..''. Snickers did not reply. He just pulled the trigger. Mackenzie heard the shot and then everything went dark again.
He opened his eyes after a while and saw nothing. He didn't understand what was happening. He looked around and started walking. Was he dead now? Was this heaven or hel? It sure felt like the last one. Suddenly he had to cover his ears because of loud sounds. He heard loud screaming and the sounds of cars crashing and tires screeching over a road. He turned around and he noticed that he was standing on a high way. But he didn't saw anything that could have caused those sounds. He suddenly felt the presence of someone standing next to him. He turned around and saw that it was yet again a police officer, but this time a king Charles spaniel. A older dog who just shook his head and looked at the pup.
''Son'' he said softly with pain in his voice. ''Why did you cause this?''
''What did i do?'' asked Mackenzie. ''Why does nobody tell me what i have done!'' he said now with anger and while stomping his feet.
''If you really don't know what you did and why that judge sentence you.. just see for yourself what you caused'' said the dog and then pointed with his finger. Mackenzie turned around to see where the finger was pointing to. When he saw the scene he was devastated. He saw a burning, orange Suziki Jimny. He knew that car. It was his parents car. '
As fast as he could he run towards it shouting ''Mum!'' ''Dad!''.
He opened the door on the drivers side and backed away in shock. In front of him he saw his dad. He was sitting in the driver's seat. He was bleeding heavily. Blood was dripping out of a big hole in his chest, ears, nose and mounth. Suddenly he slowly opend his eyes and looked at his son.
''Son.. what did we ever do to you to deserve this?''
''Dad.. i…i.. i never wanted this to happen!'' Mackenzie said. Again the tears began to fall.
''Then why did you let us die like this. Why did you cause our deaths. We loved you. We gave you everything!'' his dad grunted at him.
''I love you to Dad. I would never…''
''NO!'' his dad screamed at him. ''You don't love us. You killed us!''.
''Mackenzie''. Mackenzie heard his mother saying his name. It sounded hurt and broken. He looked behind his father. His mother was sitting on the backseat with her back turned around to him. '
''Mum… i did not kill you or dad'' said Mackenzie desperate.
''Is that so. Then why didn't you answered one simple question.'' His mother said stone cold. ''Your father asked what you wanted to do on family day. But once again your empty head couldn't think of anything. So me and your dad had to think of something to do didn't we?. Well. If you had chosen something, we probably would have gone somewhere else and we wouldn't have driven on this road. Then we wouldn't have this accident and we would still be alive. But no. Thanks to you we are gone''.
''No mum. I'm sorry. I did not want this to happen. Believe me..please! I want you back''. Said Mackenzie. He tried to reach for his mothers shoulders.
''Well, it's too late for that don't you think? It just shows that you never loved us'''.
''No mum, don't say that. I do! I do love you!'' Mackenzie cried.
''Then why didn't you think of anything to do so we didn't end up on this road were we died. WHY DID YOU CAUSE THIS!'' His mother turned around. Mackenzie screamed in horror as what he saw was not his mothers face looking at him, but a burning skull. He turned around to where his father sat. To his horror his dad turned into a skeleton aswell.
Mackenzie backed away and shut the door before running away. He runned down the road, dodging other cars.
He looked behind and to his horror he saw his parents car chasing him. The car was full engaged with flames. He didn't know where to go or what to do. The car was getting closer and closer.
Mackenzie heard all kind of voices he heard earlier. He heard Rusty saying that he was a loser, Jack saying he was a nobody, Bluey saying that she hated him and his parents screaming in agony asking him why he did this to them. He runned faster trying not to get run over by the car chasing him while covering his ears in hopes the voices would stop.
Suddenly he heard a other voice coming through. A voice he hadn't heard before the whole time. It was calling out his name. The voice sounded nice and trusted. Unlike the other voices this one sounded like it was worried about him. And that voice was calling out for him. He suddenly recognised it. It was the voice of his teacher; Calypso.
''Calypso! Is that really you?'' he shouted.
As soon as he shouted that, everything disappeared. The car was not longer chasing him, the other voices disappeared and everything went black again. He was now floating in that darkness.
''Mackenzie, please if you hear me, wake up please'' he heard her saying.
''But i'm not sleeping. Where are you?'' he cried out.
''Mackenzie. Please, wake up. Come back to us''.
Mackenzie did not understand it. Was he sleeping? What was happening?
He floated further and decided to go where he though the voice was coming from. He kept hearing her calling out his name.
With all his strength he desperately tried to move his floating body to the direction her voice came from. The darkness around him began to disappear. It began to turn white instead. And everytime Calypso's voice became louder and louder. He felt stronger with each movement but struggled a lot. Every step he took was exhausting.
Suddenly the white became very bright and blinded him. He could not see anymore where he was going.
The last thing he heard was Calypso calling his name again.
