Lucy had never felt so nervous in her life. After receiving the news at the clinic, her mind had been spinning with how to tell Chris. She'd been quiet on the drive home, her thoughts a whirlwind of anxiety and uncertainty. Tim had offered to stay with her, to support her in whatever way she needed, but she knew this was something she had to face alone.

Now, standing outside Chris's apartment, her stomach twisted in knots. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself, and then knocked on the door. A few moments later, Chris opened it, a smile on his face that quickly faded when he saw her expression.

"Lucy, hey," he said, his brow furrowing in concern. "What's wrong?"

"Chris, we need to talk," Lucy said, her voice trembling despite her efforts to stay calm.

Chris's concern deepened, and he stepped aside, letting her in. Lucy walked into the living room, her heart pounding in her chest. She had rehearsed what she was going to say a hundred times on the way over, but now that she was here, the words seemed to escape her.

Chris sat down beside her, taking her hand in his. "Lucy, you're scaring me. What's going on?"

Lucy looked at him, her eyes filling with tears. "Chris…I don't know how to say this, but… I'm pregnant."

The words hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. Chris stared at her, his expression unreadable as he tried to process what she had just said. For a moment, there was silence, and Lucy's heart raced as she waited for his response.

"Pregnant?" Chris finally said, his voice low, as if he could barely believe it. "Are you sure?"

Lucy nodded, the tears spilling over. "I went to the clinic today. They confirmed it. I'm pregnant, Chris."

Chris pulled his hand away from hers, running it through his hair as he stood up and began pacing the room. Lucy watched him, her anxiety growing with every step he took.

"This…this wasn't planned," Chris muttered, his mind clearly racing. "We weren't ready for this."

"I know," Lucy said, her voice pleading. "I didn't plan for this either, but it's happening, and I…I need to figure out what to do next."

Chris stopped pacing and turned to her, a look of disbelief on his face. "Lucy, how did this happen? We were careful. This doesn't make sense."

"I don't know," Lucy replied, her voice breaking. "But it happened, and now we have to deal with it."

Chris was silent for a moment, his expression hardening as a thought seemed to cross his mind. "Lucy…are you sure it's mine?"

The question hit Lucy like a punch to the gut. She stared at him in shock, unable to believe what she had just heard. "What? Chris, of course, it's yours. How could you even ask that?"

Chris didn't respond immediately, his eyes narrowing as he took a step closer to her. "I don't know, Lucy. You've been spending a lot of time with Tim lately. You're always together, even outside of work."

Lucy's heart sank as she realized where this was going. "Chris, no. Tim and I are just friends. We work together. That's it."

"Are you sure?" Chris's voice was sharp, laced with accusation. "Because I've seen the way he looks at you. And now, suddenly, you're pregnant? How do I know you didn't sleep with him?"

Lucy felt a surge of anger and hurt rise within her. "Chris, I would never do that! I've been nothing but loyal to you. I love you. How can you even think that?"

"Because it doesn't make sense, Lucy!" Chris shouted, his voice trembling with anger and hurt. "We were careful! And now you're pregnant out of nowhere? It doesn't add up!"

Lucy stood up, her own anger boiling over. "I can't believe you're accusing me of this! I'm telling you the truth, Chris. I haven't slept with Tim. I haven't slept with anyone but you!"

Chris stared at her, his face a mask of confusion, hurt, and anger. "I don't know if I can believe you, Lucy. This…this just feels wrong."

Lucy's heart broke at his words. She had expected this to be difficult, but she had never imagined that Chris would accuse her of cheating, especially with Tim. The man who had been nothing but a friend and protector to her.

"Chris," Lucy said, her voice shaking. "I need you to believe me. Please. I didn't do anything wrong."

But Chris's expression didn't soften. He shook his head, his voice cold. "I don't know if I can trust you, Lucy. This changes everything."

Tears streamed down Lucy's face as she realized what was happening. "Are you…are you breaking up with me?"

Chris looked away, his jaw clenched. "I can't do this, Lucy. I can't be with someone I can't trust."

Lucy felt like the ground had been ripped out from beneath her. She had come here to share something terrifying and life-changing with the man she loved, and instead, he was walking away from her, leaving her alone to face the future.

"Chris, please don't do this," Lucy begged, her voice raw with emotion. "I need you. We can work through this."

But Chris's eyes were cold as he turned to face her one last time. "I'm sorry, Lucy. But I can't be with you anymore."

And with that, he walked out of the room, leaving Lucy standing there, shattered and alone. The weight of everything that had just happened pressed down on her, suffocating her with a grief and pain she had never imagined.

She sank onto the couch, burying her face in her hands as sobs wracked her body. Everything had fallen apart in a matter of minutes, and now she was left to pick up the pieces of her life—alone.

After what felt like hours, Lucy finally pulled herself together enough to leave. Her steps were heavy as she walked out of Chris's apartment, the door closing behind her with a finality that echoed in her heart.

As she made her way down the street, her mind raced with thoughts of what to do next. She was pregnant, single, and terrified. But through the haze of fear and sadness, one thought kept resurfacing: she needed to talk to Tim.

He had been there for her through so much already, and now she needed him more than ever. She didn't know what she would say or how he would react, but she knew one thing—Tim was the only person she could trust right now.

With a deep breath, Lucy pulled out her phone and sent Tim a message, asking if they could meet. She didn't have a plan, but she knew she needed to see him, to talk to him, to find some semblance of stability in the storm her life had become.

As she walked away from the life she had known with Chris, Lucy knew one thing for sure: everything had changed, and there was no going back.
