"What are we really even looking for?" Tigerstar side-eyed Firestar, who stopped to take a rest beneath where an elder bush cast deep shade over the riverbank. Tigerstar sat surveying the area around them. His posture ridged and claws scraped the stones underneath him. Being gone for so long, wandering aimlessly in unknown territory, following the will of a lost ancient group of cats. It was driving him almost mad. "How are we going to help save SkyClan when we don't even know what we're trying to help them with?"
Tigerstar pondered over the question before answering, "I wonder. Maybe it's not entirely lost. SkyClan's ancestors still reside in StarClan, just in a different part of it, perhaps SkyClan's descendants also reside in another part of a further off territory."
Firestar nodded, then sighed. "But what are we to do when we find them? If the Clan still exists, and holds onto the warrior code, would they even want to talk to the leaders of the Clans that tossed them out in their greatest time of need?"
Good question. Tigerstar wasn't optimistic with a warm welcome from SkyClan if they ever found the lost Clan. No, he fully expected a more hostile reception from them. Tigerstar recalled being attacked and chased out of his own territory back when BloodClan had caught them unaware; he swore that he would return the favor next time and had reclaimed his Clan's territory with the rest of the Clan's aid.
If SkyClan felt as strongly as Tigerstar had when he was chased from ShadowClan's territory, then Tigerstar was worried for both their lives.
"I guess we'll just have to wait and see." That was the only answer Tigerstar could give the beautiful she-cat. "I'm not expecting much from this quest but that doesn't mean we won't try our best to figure out what needs to be done."
"Sometimes I wish StarClan wouldn't be so vague." Firestar meowed, standing up, appearing ready to keep moving. Tigerstar was relieved, he was getting restless just sitting around.
Tigerstar took the lead, his bulky size acting as a buffer between the breeze that picked up orange hot sand that stung your eyes and Firestar's much smaller form. Firestar didn't say anything, but from time to time he felt a gentle nudge to his flank that let him know that the ThunderClan leader was thankful for his magnanimity. The only upside was the shade from trees that grew along the hedge.
Tigerstar stopped dead in his tracks however as two or three Twoleg nests came into view. He felt his neck fur begin to bristle in silent exasperated anger. How many of these foul reeking Twolegplace would they have to go through just to find a few straggling cats that may or may not remember who they are anymore.
"Always Twolegs." Tigerstar grumbled under his breath. Firestar comes to stand at his side to survey the situation. Her slightly crooked tail touched his shoulder to help ground the dark warrior's temper.
"There's not really that many." Firestar tried to reassure. "I'm sure there is a way around them."
Tigerstar had to wonder not for the first time about Firestar's life before joining ThunderClan. The dark tabby warrior had heard of the horror's that came with the soft, weak life of a pampered housecat. How their Twolegs dictated every aspect of their lives, down from what they ate, to how they were groomed, to even venturing outside. How kits were torn away from their mother's.
"There better be." Tigerstar sharply diverted directions towards a gap in a hedge and led the way through into a field of rough grass. The two cats padded across it, skirting the fences of Twoleg gardens, until they came to a narrow Thunderpath.
Firestar paused; Tigerstar eyed the flame-colored she-cat closely as the faint and stale scent of monsters wafed around them. "We can always find a way around it." Tigerstar suggested.
Firestar shook out her pelt as she glanced back up at Tigerstar. "Do you think it's safe to cross?"
It never is. Tigerstar thought to himself but didn't allow himself to say so. Instead he gave a quick glance up and down, the gestures for Firestar to crouch down beside him, "On the count of three, we go together, alright?"
Firestar gave a jerky nod. Glancing up and down the Thunderpath a few more times, Tigerstar slowly counted up to three, before darting across. Firestar followed hard on his paws. On the other side was more rough grass, and it didn't take long to skirt the remaining Twoleg nests until the river came in sight again.
As they drew closer, Tigerstar could hear the squeals of Twolegs. Little Twolegs at that. The dark tabby warrior let out a vicious hiss of annoyance; they thought they had dodged all the Twolegs by avoiding the nests. Once he reached the path again he could see that here the river widened into a round, shallow pool. Several Twoleg kits were bouncing around in the shallows, shrieking happily and splashing one another with water. It was completely bizarre and quite disgusting to witness, and Tigerstar questioned the sanity of the Twoleg kit's parents.
As Tigerstar looked on in absolute disgust, internally judging the parental roles of Twolegs, a louder screech came from the young Twolegs. A couple of them bounded out of the water and dashed towards Tigerstar and Firestar with their paws outstretched, sending drops of water flying.
Tigerstar's back arched. His teeth bared in a silent snarl. Claws extended and looked twice his size. He was so, so, so sick of these Twolegs! Tigerstar's shift in stance made the Twoleg kits come to a stumbling halt in their tracks.
The first Twoleg kit who had reached out to grab him unfortunately was a victim to his instinctual lightning fast reflexes. Lashing out, Tigerstar slashed the small pink paw that was outstretched towards him, and it gave out a pained filled wail as it turned itself around and fled back to its caregivers.
The rest of the pack of Twoleg kits didn't hesitate to follow the now bleeding kit, screeching and wailing. Tigerstar evidently put fear into the whole lot of them.
"Did you really have to do that?" Firestar snapped. "It was just a kit!"
Tigerstar stopped himself just before he spat back a retort. Firestar saw things differently from how Tigerstar saw them, it was what led to the untimely demise of their lives together in ThunderClan, Firestar had more experience and therefore more patience with Twolegs, Tigerstar did not. Perhaps threatening a Twoleg kit was going a bit too far.
"Let's just keep going." Firestar huffed beside him. The flame-colored she-cat taking over the lead with Tigerstar following behind this time.

Time trickled on as the pair moved throughout the remainder of the day. Stopping only to hunt or rest and occasionally get their bearings. They still haven't spoken since the Twoleg Innocent, when Tigerstar had defended himself against the defenseless Twoleg kit. The silent disappointment from Firestar was one Tigerstar knew would pass but it was also one he couldn't stand for long.
"I'm sorry I hurt the Twoleg kit." Tigerstar finally spoke when they came to a cliff face beside a waterfall. Moss-covered rocks jutted out of it, with clumps of ferns spilling over them. "But they are also unpredictable and I didn't want to take any risks. Especially right now."
Firestar's ear twitched to show that she'd heard him; though her jade green eyes were still contemplating.
Suddenly Firestar walked out towards the waters bank, glaring down into the water as though she were mad at the river as a whole. A couple of heartbeats later, the sleek ginger furred she-cat darted a paw down into the water; silver flashed in the air, and a fish lay wiggling on the rock. Firestar planted a paw on it to stop it from flopping back into the pool.
Tigerstar snorted in amusement at how proudly Firestar held up the floppy fish within her jaws as the flame pelted she-cat continuously had to adjust the hold or else the dead fish would slip away from her.
Firestar came to join Tigerstar once again on the bank, Tigerstar shaking his massive head in total disbelief and in awe.
"Don't go saying I'm a RiverClan cat," Firestar warned, "The stupid creature practically came up and begged to be caught," she told him, dropping her prey at his paws.
Tigerstar very much wanted to tease her, the light that showed back at him from her eyes practically radiated a warm feeling inside him, but Tigerstar held back.
"We can share it," Firestar continued, nudging it closer towards the ShadowClan leader, "you have first bite, tell me what you think."
Tigerstar shot a deliberately impassive look her way, because of course Firestar wouldn't try something scaly without first having someone else take the first bite. With a dreamlike slowness Tigerstar took an exaggerated bite from the fish, and furthered that by taking a ridiculous amount of time chewing before swallowing. All while underneath Firestar's impatient scrutiny.
Tigerstar had eaten fish a time or two in ShadowClan. Frogs, lizards and small fish are not uncommon, but Tigerstar found this unfamiliar taste a much better quality than the ones found in his Clan's territory. Looking back at Firestar he nodded, and watched with whiskers twitching as Firestar devoured her share.
"The cliffs don't look that hard to climb," he meowed, glancing upwards. "We'd better try, before the sun goes down." Tigerstar glanced over at Firestar, asking only with his amber eyes if she were ready, she nodded in return.
He started to claw his way up the rocks, his unusually sharp claws sinking easily through the rock face and his superb upper body strength making it easy to climb in comparison to how Firestar was fairing. Pulling himself up onto a flat rock, he paused for a moment to turn back to check on Firestar, he spotted her balanced precariously on a boulder at the bottom of a sheer slab of rock.
"Will you be able to make it?" He called down to her. "I could come down and get you."
Firestar gazed up at him, looking unsure. "But you're already way up there. And I think I can manage."
Tigerstar sharply flicked his tail from side of side. His massive jaws clenching as he wanted to object but allowed Firestar the space needed for her to make the leap up beside him, she leaped flawlessly, but Tigerstar still reached out to steady her.
"Wasn't so hard." Firestar gasped, looking completely worn out and short of breath from that jump alone. "It was as easy as catching that fish."
Tigerstar let out a little huff of relief, unaware of how close he was leaning before he found himself pressing his muzzle against hers. He instantly jerked back, his spine stiffening and what felt like a million judgmental eyes staring at his pelt. They weren't mate's, they weren't Clanmates, and they were two opposing leaders.
Firestar herself was blinking rapidly, taken by surprise at Tigerstar's forward behavior. Though she didn't comment. They began to climb again. Tigerstar's breath came out fast and shallow, his pelt bristling with tension by the time he hauled himself up over the cliff edge and collapsed onto level ground. Tigerstar was shaking, but he wasn't shaking from the physical aspect of the climb. A heartbeat later Firestar joined him and flopped down by his side. He felt her warm pelt brush against his, but not as close as it had been before.
"I hope we don't have to do much more climbing." Firestar meowed, looking off ahead of them, where the river grew narrower, and the banks rose until it were a sandy gorge, close to the water. "I don't know if I can make another jump like that."
Tigerstar murmured in agreement as he looked over the flame-furred leader. Firestar was for all the power and skills she possessed; short.
The flame-colored ThunderClan leader was sadly shorter than every current leader in the forest. Her deputy, and other Clanmates, were taller than Firestar as were almost every single one of their kits. The only cat as short as Firestar that he could think of was their daughter, Squirrelflight. Sad as it was for their bushy tailed daughter who was teased relentlessly for these inherited traits.
"We'd better find somewhere to spend the night," Tigerstar suggested. "If there are any signs of SkyClan here, we could miss them in the dark." And missing any signs of the lost Clan was the last thing Tigerstar wanted to happen.
Firestar nodded once more in agreement. They found a small cave in the side of the gorge, sheltered by a stunted gorse bush, and crawled into it. The sandy floor was more comfortable than Tigerstar expected, though a nest made of pine needles wouldn't be a cat's first choice, and it was not long before he slept with Firestar's scent all around him.

This wasn't how I expected this chapter to go. I was expecting to do way more than what I wrote. I plan to make up for that in the next chapter!!!
Fun Facts;
Firestar is short and Squirrelflight is the only one that takes after her. Everyone else is taller!
Tigerstar and Firestar's romance is rekindling!!! Not that they ever lost that spark!!! Just wanting to get back into the groove so it's not just weirdly randomly happening!
