CHAPTER 21: A HAPPY MORNING
Sara woke up feeling somebody gently nudging her and whispering her name. "Sara, wake up. There's something I want to show you." Sara finally opened her eyes and jumped a little when she saw a creature with glowing eyes and stripes on him but they weren't so bright that it woke everybody up but just enough so that you could see where you were going. Like a candle. It was Janner. Sara propped herself up on her elbows. "Janner, what are you doing?"
"There's something I have to show you." He whispered, "It's something very special. But we have to go now to see it."
Sara yawned while rubbing her eye, "Okay I'm coming."
"Alright I'll be waiting outside the door." Janner quickly went out the door and closed it behind him without making a sound. Sara stepped onto the cold wooden floor and got dressed. Everyone was spending the night in a town by the cliffs. The innkeeper was happy to let them stay the night but of course he was a little nervous around Amrah, Laylah and Janner who looked like cloven. But everyone reassured him that they were safe. Sara smiled when she saw Artham with the biggest smile on his face. Well, everybody was excited but Artham and Esben were the most excited. This was their home and they never thought that they would be back. There were even some people who pointed out Artham and Esben which reminded Sara that Esben was once the King of Anniera making his children the princes and princess. She blushed at the thought of Janner being a prince. Once they got settled in at the inn the innkeeper's wife gave them all a change of clothes and told them that breakfast will be served as soon as they wake up.
Sara slowly walked to the door, looking over at Leeli and Laylah who shared a room with her. She opened the door and was greeted with a warm light coming off from Janner. "Okay Janner I'm ready. Where are we going?" She whispered.
"You'll see. Just follow me." He said with a smile. She followed him down the stairs, to the front door of the inn then outside and walked down the street to the edge of town. " Janner where are we going?" She asked forgetting to whisper. There was no one else awake so Janner and Sara were the only ones walking through town. In only a few minutes they were near the cliffs. "Janner what are we doing here?"
Janner turned towards her, "Close your eyes." Sara was confused but closed her eyes. Then she felt Janner grab her hands and guide her forward for another minute. Then they stopped and Janner lifted her head up a little bit then said, "Open your eyes." Sara opened her eyes to see a giant cliff towering above her but it wasn't the cliff that amazed her, it was the beautiful flower that was as big as Leeli and it started to glow. " Remember how you wanted to see it bloom and you invited me to the bridge in Glipwood. But…we never got to."
Sara stood there with her mouth open, "How did you find it?"
"Well, when we were arriving at Anniera there were so many scents that I could smell but the one that stood out to me was this flower."
"Do your parents know you're here?"
"Yeah, I'll told them about it and they gave me permission. As long as we come back before breakfast of course."
Sara smiled, "Thanks Janner."
Janner's ears went down as he smirked, "You're welcome."
Then they looked up at the flower as the sun rose. The flower bloomed in the sunlight taking in the warmth of the sun as Janner and Sara looked up in awe. "It's beautiful!" Sara said.
Sara wasn't exactly sure but she thought she heard Janner say, "Like you." but it was to quiet so she said, "What?"
"Oh! I, uh…said…uh, it is beautiful!" Suddenly a light started to surround Janner again and once it disappeared Sara gasped. Janner looked just like his human self. He looked at his hands and feet and behind him at where his tail had been and felt the top of his head where is ears were. "I'm…I'm…" Sara squealed as she ran to him and fell into his arms. Janner smiled and hugged her tightly not noticing how his heart was beating even faster. It had only been a minute when they noticed they were hugging each other and quickly backed away a bit as they laughed nervously.
"I'm glad you're human again." Sara said while playing with her hair.
Janner laughed again while rubbing the back of his neck, "Yeah, me too." Sara looked into his bright green eyes while he looked into her blue eyes and she noticed how they looked like emeralds. Janner blinked a couple of times before clearing his throat and blushing, "We should probably be heading back."
"Yeah we should. Thanks for showing me the flower and remembering how much I wanted to see it." Sara smiled.
Janner smiled back, "You're welcome." They began to walk back to the inn quietly. When they got into town they saw a few people opening up their shops for the day. Once they got to the inn they snuck back upstairs to their rooms and Janner quietly said, "Oh and Sara um… would it be okay if we kept this a secret?"
"Sure. I promise I won't tell anyone." Sara smiled.
"Thanks."
"You're welcome." Then they both closed the door to their rooms.
….
Janner sat at the little table next to the window in his room quietly writing in his journal. Apparently Kalmar had taken it with him on the journey as a way to comfort himself when he missed Janner. Naturally Janner would've been annoyed with Kalmar taking his things but he wasn't. Who was he to be upset about Kalmar looking through his things when he was grieving? Instead Janner had only smiled especially when he saw a drawing in his journal. It was a drawing of when the brothers were playing Zibzy together. So, Janner went to the next page to write about what happened that morning. Just when he was finished he heard something move and then gasped. He turned to where Kalmar's bed was, who was sharing a room with him, and saw Kalmar sitting looking scared so Janner rushed to his side. "Kalmar are you okay?"
"Yeah," Kalmar rubbed his eyes, "I just thought that-" He immediately stopped and stared at Janner who was human again. And his eyes started to fill with tears. "Janner?"
Janner laughed knowing that Kalmar would want a hug too. So he sat next to his brother and opened his arms to him.
"JANNER!" Kalmar exclaimed as he quickly crawled up next to Janner hugging him tightly.
"Shhh. Kalmar you'll wake up everybody." Janner's smile slowly went away when he noticed that Kalmar was crying softly into Janner's shoulder. "Hey, what's wrong."
"Please tell me this isn't some sort of dream." Kalmar said softly.
Janner smiled, "It's not a dream, Kal. I promise it's real. Everything that happened really did happen."
"Last night I had a dream that you didn't come back. That's why I was scared."
Janner hugged him even tighter, "It's okay Kalmar, I did come back. And the Maker blessed us with a good home. We're safe now. It's okay now."
Kalmar stopped crying," It's okay now." He repeated. A few minutes later Janner felt Kalmar put a little more weight on him as he slowly went back to sleep. Janner gently rubbed his hand on Kalmar's back just like how his mother would when he and his siblings needed comfort. He leaned his head on top of Kalmar's until he heard soft footsteps come up to the door. The door slowly opened as Esben walked into the room, he first looked surprised to see Janner as a human again then looked at Kalmar who was sleeping peacefully in his brother's arms and smiled as he walked into the room and sat on the bed. "Are you boys okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, we're okay. I was just writing about this morning when Kalmar woke up. He said that he had a bad dream that I didn't come back. But soon he calmed down and now he's asleep again." Janner explained.
"So, did you get to go see that flower?" Esben whispered extra quietly.
"Yeah, I did. Hopefully Kal won't find out 'cuase then he'll never drop it for about a week" Janner whispered back.
Esben laughed, "Well, that's what brothers do. I remember when me and mother went on our first date, Artham would always tease me about it. Then when I told him that I was going to marry her Artham shouted 'Called it!'"
Janner giggled but then stopped when Kalmar started laughing. "Thanks for the idea Papa. I'll be sure to do that when Janner asks his 'girlfriend' to marry him."
"Were you faking it the whole time?!" Janner asked.
"Maaaaybe." Kalmar said before laughing again.
"And also she's not my girlfriend."
"Your journal says otherwise."
Janner put his hand to his forehead, "Oh, I forgot that you took my journal."
Kalmar laughed while Janner's face turned red.
"Listen, boys I got to wake your sister and her friends. So you two get ready for breakfast okay?" Esben said with a smile.
"Okay Papa." The brother's said. Then they both crawled to Esben who gave them a big warm hug. "I love you, my sons."
"We love you too, Papa. JINX!" The brother's said at the same time. They laughed as Esben got up and walked out of the room. He went across the hall and quietly knocked on the door and heard a quiet cheerful voice say, "Come in." Esben slowly opened the door to see Sara sitting at a small table happily talking with Leeli who sat next to her. "Papa!" Leeli exclaimed as she ran to Esben. Who picked her up into a hug and gave her a kiss. "I see you girls are ready."
"Well, except for Laylah." Leeli said as she was being set down on the floor. They all turned to the third bed in the room where they saw a big hump of blankets. They couldn't exactly see Laylah but the snoring told them that she was fast asleep.
"She's a heavy sleeper too." Sara said as she walked up to Esben. "Leeli accidentally dropped her crutch but Laylah didn't even move."
"Well, we'll just let her sleep for a little bit longer then if she's not up by breakfast time you two can come and wake her up. How does that sound?" Esben said.
"Okay." The girls said as they walked out the door with smiles on their faces. Esben walked out of the room right as Janner and Kalmar walked out. He let them down the hallway first and followed them only to feel two hands grab him by the shoulders and heard a hissing noise. He yelped and jumped while turning around to see who it was. It was Artham who was laughing. "Gotchya." Artham said. Esben only stared at Artham and realized that his hair looked quite nice today and how it would to be shame if someone messed it up.
"Oh yeah go on and laugh. Ha ha." Esben said with a mischievous smile. Then Rudric came out of his room while yawning. Perfect timing. Rudric would love to be witness. Esben thought. "Hey, what's so funny?" Rudric asked.
"I scared Esben and you should've seen him jump." Artham said while laughing.
"Oh was that what that sound was?" Rudric asked.
Esben crossed his arms and smiled before reaching up and making Artham's hair a big tangled mess then running down stairs with Rudric at his heals. Yes, even Rudric knew that if you messed up Artham's thick hair he was going to be upset. "So it's gonna be that type of day, huh?" Artham said. "Well, two can play at that game." Then he went down stairs thinking of another prank that he could pull on Esben. And maybe Rudric.
