Another holiday season arrived in Arendelle, and at the castle there were many preparations being made for Christmas in the castle ever since Elsa had closed the doors.

Brooklyn himself was feeling excited to enjoy doing Christmas with his girlfriend Elsa. He and Anna were examining the food laid out for everybody and the two spotted an interesting cake that was rings stacked on top of each other. The gargoyle thought it looked pretty tasty, reaching out to try it when suddenly a certain someone somehow jumped out of the cake.

"Surprise!" Cheered their snowman friend when he came out of the cake into Anna's arms, body coming apart as usual. Anna had giggled when catching him while Brooklyn jumped himself. "Don't scare us like that Olaf, and it is not time yet!" He said in irritation but smiled slightly. Olaf was put back together as he did his laugh. "Brooklyn's right, our surprise holiday party doesn't start until after the Yule Bell rings," the gargoyle heard his girlfriend say, setting up her own decorations.

He felt himself blush when seeing her in a pretty winter outfit. Elsa always looked stunning to him in any kind of dress. He went up to her, taking her hand and planting a kiss on her cheek when Olaf spoke. "Sorry, the suspense is tearing me apart!" Anna petted his head. "I'm excited too, Olaf. This is Arendelle's first Christmas in forever!"

That made Brooklyn feel happy, for during those times of lonliness when Elsa was locked away in her room away from everyone and especially when the king and queen passed he often missed having Christmas with his own family. It soon made him frown just a little, looking down. "The first of many to come— and what's wrong, my love?" Elsa asked in concern, stroking his cheek.

"I just… miss celebrating with my own family Elsa. I'm glad you all are my second family now, however, it, isn't the same as Christmas in Manhattan. The city is normally all lit up with bright lights that we use electricity, like lightning," He said, his sad smile on him. That made Elsa give him a hug. "We will make sure you get the best Christmas with us and soon help you find your way home again, we promise," She said gently, giving him her own kiss on his beak. "Thank you. Should we get it started? I think I hear them," He asked, his ears hearing the coming of the crowd.

Anna glanced out the window. "They're coming!" She exclaimed.

"Look at everyone, they don't realize!" Olaf gasped "Who?"

"We planned a party as a big surprise!" Anna sang again, gesturing to the door, as the trio walked over to open the doors. "This is overdue," Brook heard Elsa sang as his heart fluttered from her voice. Anna put a bowtie on Olaf. "Gotta look our best," Olaf oohed. "I've never been so nicely dressed!"

Brooklyn couldn't help himself with lifting an empty glass, wishing his clan could be here with them. "We'll be hosting and toasting the whole night through…" Elsa took his arm. "As we ring in the season, with you!" She finished singing for him. Anna danced them around a bit. "It is our first Christmas in forever since we opened up the gates!"

Elsa put a hand on the door handle. "And it's the first Christmas I remember to date, and it is already worth the wait!" The doors opened, Brooklyn saw them being greeted by a large crowd of people all cheering. The cheering felt good in his ears. "Look at all the joy!" He and and his friends sang.

"All the joy!" Sang the crowd. "And it is everywhere! I feel the Christmas spirit - in the air - Feel the spirit and the party will soon start at the strike of noon. And we will ring in the season, so soon…" Brooklyn spotted Sven hauling in the Jule Bell with Kristoff leading. Olaf gasped. "Oh, look! It is Kristoff and Sven! And the Jule Bell… why am I excited about this?" Elsa giggled. "Olaf, the Jule Bell signals the start of the holidays in Arendelle." She explained. "It's been done for a long time," Brooklyn also said, Olaf glancing up at him with his excited face.

"And it is almost time to ring the bell

We'll hear it chime through Arendelle

It's finally here and it is happening fast! We'll make up all for what we have missed in the past!"

Brooklyn and Elsa hugged one another before they and Anna and Olaf all took hold of the rope after Kristoff gave the bell to them. "It is time to celebrate as we ring in the season… at last!"

The Jule Bell rang out in the courtyard, causing everyone to cheer out loud. Brooklyn tugged on the rope like he once did the first time when Elsa was little, still enjoying the sound. After that Elsa raised her arms. "Let the holidays begin!" She next nodded to her friends. "Ok, now!" They pushed the doors open. "Surprise!" Olaf cheered, but to their own surprise; the crowd was dispersing and heading out. Brooklyn's ears fell. What happened?

"Uh oh," Olaf muttered, as Elsa and Anna both tried to invite them to come in. "Hold on, hold on, going so soon?" Anna asked. One mom with a girl smiled at Anna. "The Jule Bell rang, I must get back to our holiday tradition: Rolling the Lefse." She said as she left. Brooklyn's head turned to a man who spoke. "Ours is putting out porridge for the Tomte." He explained.

Then two girl twins spoke. "We're making the traditional bordstabelbakkels!" They said at the same time, making Brooklyn blink. What the heck even was that? Olaf himself was grinning as he spoke. "And I'm gonna filete the krumsakringlekakke!" Yet another fancy word for me… Brook thought, rolling his eyes as Olaf paused. "That's a thing, right?" He asked Anna who shrugged. Brooklyn found himself approaching an elder couple. "Hey, uh, you guys are welcome to hang if you want," The red gargoyle invited. The husband smiled. "Thank you, guardian. But Oiga and I have to get home to our tradition. To knit socks for our grandchildren."

Oiga nodded. "It is our tradition." Her husband laughed. "And we don't want to intrude on your family traditions." He said, as the two walked away. Brooklyn felt his happy bubble burst, seeing the courtyard now empty. "Oh, so the surprise is that everyone left," The snowman stated in his still cheery tone. It made Brooklyn fold his arms, lowering his head, wishing they could've had their party.

"Hey, I say it is their loss," Kristoff spoke behind them. Brook turned to see him in a grass cape with a string instrument. "Who needs a big party anyway?" Elsa stared in surprise. "Kristoff?" She asked. Brooklyn pointed. "What's with the getup?" He questioned curiously. Kristoff just grinned. "I'm just gearing up for my favorite traditional troll tradition!"

Brooklyn remembered that Kristoff had been raised by trolls so of course they would have had some kind of holiday if not Christmas. Kristoff began to play a song. "Ok, it starts with a gathering song. The Ballad of Flemmingrad." Olaf cheered. "I love ballads!"

"Every December we all gather around

To pay our respects to a troll so renowned."

The beaked gargoyle saw Sven walking in rhythmically carrying in a strange looking something on a wagon covered in a tarp.

"In remembrance of the friend we had, a jolly old soul we called Flemmingrad Tempa!" He unveiled the statue of said troll which looked rather unnerving to Brooklyn whose ears flattened as Olaf gasped. "Whoa, gross!" Anna said, trying to smile.

"We all dig deep down and we uproot the past. We shove up his nostrils a fistfull of grass!"

Brook cringed as Kristoff held up a wad of grass toward him, holding up his hand. "Not me," He muttered as Kristoff kept singing. "We shape his likeness bless his soul! Oh Flemmy, the fungus troll!"

Kristoff leaned over the statue. "Now, you lick his forehead and make a wish!" He did so, Brooklyn holding his stomach, nearly barfing, as was Elsa. Kristoff grinned invitingly. "You two lovebirds? You're both up." He said teasingly to Brooklyn and Elsa. Brook shook his head, still gripping his belly. "M-m," He mumbled. Elsa grinned awkwardly."Come on, tastes like lichen!" Kristoff tempted, nudging Brooklyn.

"Uh, sorry, not my taste," Muttered Brooklyn, stomach nauseous. Olaf whispered to Anna. "You're a princess, you don't have to settle." Kristoff chuckled awkwardly, realizing he embarrassed Brooklyn and Elsa greatly. "Guess not so much of a couple or royal thing, I get it. But wait until you taste my traditional Flemmy stew. It may smell like wet fur, but it is a real crowd pleaser."

Now that didn't appease Brooklyn either, backing away. "Sorry, all of us had a big breakfast," He apologized quickly. Kristoff shrugged. "Well, more for us then," He said, as he and Sven went off to make the stew.

The group went back inside, disappointed that the party decorations went to waste. Olaf jumped in excitement. "I can't wait!" Brooklyn raised his brow. "For what?" He asked. "For Anna and Elsa's tradition. What is it? And your gargoyleish traditions too, Brook!" Brooklyn cleared his throat awkwardly, having quite forgot. His clan never really celebrated many holidays before the humans came into their home and introduced them to Christmas.

Anna looked at Elsa. "Do we have any traditions, Elsa?" She asked. Brooklyn gazed towards his girlfriend in some curiosity and sadness when he saw the sad smile on her face. "Well… I remember…"

"It was long ago…

They would ring the bell.

We could hear it chime through Arendelle

I remember the way that I felt back then

We would ring in the season.

We would ring in the season…"

Her voice trailed off, and Brooklyn recalled those days when there were hardly any traditions he got to enjoy with them, making him miss Christmas in Manhattan all the more. "But the Jule Bell was for the kingdom. What about us?" Anna asked.

Elsa sighed. "After the gates were closed, we were never together, even with him," She said softly, eyes on Brooklyn who now felt awkward once more, seeing his love wandering to her room. "I'm sorry guys. It's my fault we don't have a family tradition," She said in a choked voice, wiping her eyes and running inside, closing the door.

Brooklyn ran to the door but it was too late, his mind receiving flashbacks of closed doors. "Elsa please…" He begged softly, but no answer. Sighing he turned away, knowing Elsa needed her alone time. He wandered out of the castle, Olaf looking back and forth before following Brooklyn out, knowing he had to do something to help.
