I don't own the Pender Wicks rice belongs to Jean Birdsall.
This is just a rewritten version of the first book of the series of Pinder Wick series if you enjoy me writing a rewriting this series this book let me know if you want me to do more of the Pinder Wick series or if you want me to do more of these rewritten versions of their stories with their mother Elizabeth alive if you do, let me know some of them will have to be tweaked a bit, but I hope you enjoy this fun summertime story.
No, we returned to the story and where we are everyone's getting ready to leave to go on their fun little summer adventure this will be a fun story. I hope you like it.
The girls are younger than the ages they were when the main story starts Rosalyn is 12 sky is 11 Jane is 10 and Baddie is 10
And don't forget hound he is still here too.
For a long time that summer, the Pender Weck sisters taught nothing about but Aaron gel their mother too. They talk about the gardens and how much they loved it and about how lovely the gardens were and how much Elizabeth love loved the gardens and Jane would point out and say, there are better gardens probably in heaven mom you're right Jane she would say wouldn't have to run into Mrs. Tifton there sky pointed out true she said.
And the way we got there it was fate that drove us there said Jane no it was the person who messed up our vacation the soldier vacationed home with Cape Cod commented Sky.
After that, they would talk about other things until the topic came back about Erindale later.
And that faithful day when their vacation home was taken or sold after Mr. Puig heard a friend of a friend say that there was a lovely cottage in the Berkshire mountains. He snatched it up and asked his wife if this was a perfect place for our summer vacation for a few weeks, Elizabeth agreed this would be a lovely place for our vacation. She agreed to that.
Then it settled that is where we're going sad Elizabeth Martin agreed yes dear we will go here we'll get a map and find the location she said.
Yes, that will be wonderful. Mr. Pinder said to his wife, let us get the children together.
Got everyone together, speaking in Latin to make sure everyone was there they had a lot bigger vehicle bigger car with all their luggage and hound in the back.
All those things I said were in the past now they were in the car and they were on their way to Erindale and of course, they were lost.
The seating arrangements were like this, Mr. and Mrs. Pinder were in the front they took turns driving and why navigated with the map, but they didn't have the map now Because it was gone.
Rosalind, the oldest at 12 sat next to her younger sister Sky who was 11 behind them in the next row were Bad and Jane Jane was 10 and he was four.
And of course, behind them was the hound they're a big black dog, big level, big, lovable, clumsy, dog hound, Pinter, Wick, and daddy's best friend. He was always on her side about things.
The arch is supposed to have a big pen for the hound to be in that would be lovely too.
The trip was supposed to take a few minutes, but they've already been on the road for three hours actually would take at least a couple of hours but they were on the road for three hours tops. Everyone was getting annoyed and hot and bothered. And arguments started to break out. Especially about the map.
Maddie said it sounded faulty. He ate the map and Hound wouldn't have eaten the map. If you hadn't hidden your sandwich in it said Rosalind maybe it's fate that he ate a lot. I ate the map. Maybe it's fate that we need to be lost. Maybe we'll discover something amazing said Jane.
Maybe you're on the right track Jane said their mother Rosalyn said bad how long are we going to be on the road for? We've already been on the road for three hours?
Perk up Rosie maybe maybe like Jane said we'll discover something amazing.
All right, then, Rosalyn's side.
I discovered when I'm in the back too long with my younger sister Jane I want to murder her said Sky.
Relax troops send Mr. Pinder down with his family we'll get there soon. Don't worry.
How do to go to the bathroom? Betty says. In a minute, honey her mother says.
Then there was a loud sound in the back. It sounded like there was almost a murder breaking out a fight in the backseat, so Elizabeth turned around to look, but it was only the baddie trying to turn around in her car seat to see the hound.
But it was only the baddie trying to turn around to see the hound in her car seat backward so she could see the hound. Jane was riding in her favorite blue notebook so everyone was doing fine. She could tell that they were both OK. Roslyn was drawing I guess or doing something writing a letter to Anna maybe She was writing a letter to Anna telling her how bored she is right now the sky was poking out her face to look like a fish meant she was bored with the sky honey. Please don't make that look sad Elizabeth it makes you look unattractive. But I'm bored stated Sky. I know her mother said, but please don't make those faces.
Atas said Jane, the weary traveler is weary of their journey, trying to work out their conflicts James mumbling to herself to figure out what she's gonna write next in her new nurse series the Sabrina STAR series she was trying to find ideas for what Sabrina should rescue next Sabrina. STAR wasn't heroin and Jane's books that she wrote first came Jane Ricky rescues a baby sparrow cricket or something and finally Sabrina STAR rescues a groundhog.
Her mother knew that she was trying to figure out what Sabrina should ask you next sky suggested a man-eating crocodile that would eat the heroin and put it into these stories and these books, but the rest of the family loves Jane's books, especially her mother who said she had the most amazing imagination in the world it was the eighth wonder of the world and she should cherish it so she did and listen to her mother.
And not sky maybe we should play a game suggested their mother. Maybe we should play I went to the zoo and I saw she said the rest of the family agreed that they should. It was a time of the last time that they could do to keep themselves from being bored.
I will start said their mother I went to the zoo and I saw an anteater. She said Jane your turn I went to the zoo and I saw an anteater and a buffalo, Jane. Said.
I guess it's my turn, said Rosalind, even though she was behind her mother they skipped her. We didn't know if you wanted to play. I don't mind. She said I went to the zoo and I saw Buffalo and. A Cracker Barrel. That's a good one said Elizabeth, Jane, and Sky even agreed that's a really good one Rosie Rosie they said Rosalyn smiled.
Even Sky agreed that's a good answer, Rosalind.
Sky was next I went to the zoo and I saw a theater, a buffalo a kookaburra, and some ducks said Sky.
Now it was Maddie's turn she had to remember everyone's answers. It was very difficult since she was only four, but she could try. She had E next that was her letter. She had to think of some good animal that started with E. I went to the zoo and I saw an anteater at Buffalo a cuckoo barrel, ducks, and. an elephant that said baddie. That's good Betty.
Thank you Betty said Wolf said hound behind her. He always agreed with her on everything even if she was right or wrong.
It was bad for their mother's turn in the game. They played several rounds until they made it to Z once that ran out they still were bored, and it was still they were still lost, but the game was distracting enough to keep their mind on where they were going and for their mother to keep it to keep everyone under control that was Elizabeth's job in this.
Luckily, batty wings did not hit anyone always. Betty wore her butterfly wings. They were her security blanket. It made her feel safe and secure.
But it was fine at least she didn't hit anyone with them and she was not harming anyone with them on.
Then Mr. Pinwood at Mr. Pinder Martin asked his wife Elizabeth Lizzie what do you remember about the map Martin? She said we're supposed to pass the sign that said friendly and then look for Stafford Street and look for number 11 little town called friendly and then find Stafford Street and then look for number 11.
Dad Rosalyn spoke up then we just passed friendly not too long ago and look then we passed this field with those cows before good good eye Rosie sent Martin to Mr. Pinder looking at her mother and giving her a thumbs up thank you Mom said, Rosalind.
Rosalyn beamed, smiling to herself.
I could've seen that too said Sky no, you couldn't have said Rosalind. You were too busy thinking about a way to murder Jane.
She couldn't help thinking that she wanted to murder her younger sister. She had to share a room with her after all it was so annoying.
Why didn't you get your math book out in the back of your suitcase and work on those problems that you wanted to do suggested her mother to the sky I didn't think about it. Sky said I should have Jane riding in a book. Maddie is trying to see Hound and I'm just bored. Don't worry sky. Said Roslyn will be there soon.
Oh, there's a tomato stand, not too far away Santa Elizabeth, Mrs. Pinder said oh nice maybe we can ask for directions. Pinder, they pulled up to it. It said Harry's tomatoes tomatoes a man says his shirt said Harry's tomatoes on it. That would be nice Elizabeth but we need our directions.
Directions to where he asked number 11 Stafford St., Arrindale Harry asked We don't know about any Arrindale but we know we have to rent a cottage at that address that is Erindale Mrs. Tifton's place is all good out too oh dear send Mrs. you'll be fine though as they were exchanging things, Jane asked to ask if they were magic tomatoes before you knew it the sky was pulling Jane back into the window then they were pressed up because the next thing Harry said was very shocking to them.
You better stay out of her gardens. She's very touchy about those gardens you know. But don't worry nice surprises are waiting for you there and Arrendale but you don't wanna keep your blonde child out of control why me sky said listening in I can always fit. I can always spot the troublemakers. I was one myself.
Forget my younger sister's rudeness said Rosalind it is fine. I had six younger sisters myself Roslyn tried to think of all her sisters having six younger sisters, but all she could think about was her sister is turning into each one turning into twins which frightened her a little.
Now here is a bag of tomatoes. Oh no, we can't send Elizabeth. Oh yes, you can tell your husband that they are present from Harry. They're on the house. He says you never know when you'll need them.
Thank you Mrs. Pinder we will be able to use these. She said she put the bag of tomatoes at her feet. No, tell your husband to go down the road a little ways then turn left and turn right until you come on to do you see two pillars and then look turn left turn right and then look for number 11 got it and like I said, please stay out of Mrs. Tipton's Gardens. She's very picky about them and stingy about them. Oh dear, you'll be fine. Enjoy the tomatoes, thanks we will.
I wonder what he meant by that said Rosalind and who is Mrs. Tifton commented Jean I'm not sure about that sky, but we'll have an adventure I guess yeah I guess so said Jane Howell needs to go to the bathroom bad now said Batty not now, honey just in a minute OK do you remember what Harry said left than right then look for number 11 send Mr. Pinder to his wife.
The mansion
Mr. Pender turned left then right and then stopped and amazement. There were two elegant stone pillars one said Arondale across one and the other said number 11.
But what did they think about a summer cottage? They figured that Mrs. Tifton lived in a cottage next to theirs and grew certain plants that were not what they expected to see as geraniums and things that weren't completely untrue and the gardens they stared and that's just from the parts that the Pender wicks could see from their car. And from the lane, they kept driving down the lane both Rosalind and their mother were fearing something Dad said to Rosalind that is not a cottage. Yes, I agree. Said Elizabeth it isn't no that's a mansion, said Mr. Pinder..
Great we're still lost hounds about to bar said bad. The sisters knew the drill and so did Mrs. Pinder. They got out help to get out and then they got bound out. They got out of the back but he didn't make it. He threw up all over he puked all over Jane's sneakers hound as she tried to move her yellow hightops, he still said Rosalind slashing it all over the place I'll get the paper towels and send Mrs. Pinder. It didn't. It took her a while to find the paper towels because they were so buried and all their things under Mr. under her husband's computer and a soccer ball, but she grabbed a bunch and ran back.
Oh, hound how could you but hound and care he went off to expect a bush.
As that was going on, and Jane and Sky started to put leaves on top of it, Betty leaned down and expected the mess look there's the map don't touch it said Roslyn and Mrs. Pinder at the same time I'm not going to touch it. Please hold still as the paper towels were ripped jeans, cleaning Jane's sneakers.
A teenager without pushing a real bear came near them need some help he asked we want to know if we're in the right place as Mrs. Pinder yes, you are here. This is Aaron Dale Hall the cottage yellow, and the tea is under the map. You won't miss it. Thank you.
Come on honey she said pulling on her husband. Cagney said hi to everyone. Roslyn thought he looked nice that boy was probably about 1819 years old too old for her, but she could tell anyone by their hands well that's what Anna said. The boy was wearing gardening gloves at the moment, then he took them off and she expected them, but they just looked like hands to her nothing special.
Also, when they were cleaning up the mess, Jane and Sky were commenting about the mess about how many different times the town had gotten ill by eating different things he shouldn't have and gotten sick he said the cottage you want is on the other side of the estates. It's in the backside it used to it used to be the guest house for the main house back when General Friendly and Mrs. Friendly were alive, but it's quieter now with Mrs. Tifton oh my they used to be parties, and all kinds of things then.
The key is under the mat you won't miss the bright yellow buttery color of that it's really cute and snug oh how wonderful and Mrs. Pinder.
And by the way the gardener here at Arrindale Hall, so if you need anything, just let me know. Thank you, Cagney and Mr. Pinder, said we can have another talk about plans later in Latin. I would love that. He said as he left.
And everyone got back into the car and drove around to the backside of the estates.
Everyone but Jane was ready to go back to find the cottage, but Jean was staring at it. I think I saw a boy at the window you imagined him saying sky come on no I don't think so. He was up there where third row on the right he's not there now, come on. Fine but I'll prove you right one day, but I don't think so but he has given me a good idea for my book said Jane.
The cottage
As they left and went around to the back of the estate when they saw their cottage, it was not just yellow but it was the baddest creamiest yellow they have ever seen cozy so this is Pinder. It looks great. Roslyn agreed.
And there was the key under the mat like Cassie had said they went inside the outside. The inside was just as charming as the outside with a little kitchen and everything inside a cute little living room and everything you need for a cozy little cottage like this it was three floors high three stories high.
With at least several bedrooms.
Mrs. and Mr. Pender, Elizabeth, and Martin snatched at the little study area with a sleeping couch, but it was a lot bigger than I thought. It was like a try not quite a trundle, but similar to like a futon that they cleaned right away.
Saying they wanted to stay away from the crowd as much as possible at least Mr. Pind directed Mrs. Pinder to be more involved with her children, but she couldn't separate from her husband for this.
Ending here I hope you enjoy this chapter. I will tell you what the next one's gonna be about. Somewhat next time.
