Play fetch!
Ed and Al were enjoying a rare moment to relax in Resembool. Ed was playing fetch with Den and Hayate, who was staying with the Rockbells until Riza returned from a long away mission. Unfortunately, the tennis balls eventually ended up in the river, and Ed didn't want to risk himself or the dogs getting dragged off by the current, which was particularly strong today, after the heavy rainstorm the day before. He returned to the Rockbell home to look for more tennis balls, or perhaps something to transmute into more.
He stopped by the kitchen for a drink of water and saw a familiar-looking basket of round yellow objects on the counter. Isn't that the basket we got those lemons in when we left Xenotime? How are there still so many? Ed took a closer look. He found, not lemons, but... Tennis balls? Why would Granny Pinako be storing tennis balls in this particular basket on the kitchen counter? Deciding not to worry about it, Ed grabbed a couple of the tennis balls and led the dogs back to where they were playing before.
"Alright, fetch!" So saying, Ed threw two tennis balls out for the pair of dogs. In a picture-perfect moment, both Den and Hayate caught their tennis balls in their jaws mid-jump. And then both proceeded to drop them and run to the river's edge to lap up some water. Ed chased after them and made sure they didn't fall in. (If something happened to Hayate, he risked a bullet to the automail. If something happened to Den, he risked a wrench to the head.) After both dogs backed away from the river, Ed gathered up the dropped tennis balls. They felt sticky, but not from dog drool. Why do these tennis balls smell like lemon juice?!
Meanwhile, Al was helping Winry in the kitchen. "You said you needed two dozen lemons for the lemon meringue pies you're making for the big picnic, right? There are a couple missing."
"That's odd," Winry said. "I counted them out myself when I put them in the basket earlier." She looked up from the pie dough she was kneading. "Al. Those are tennis balls. Where are the lemons?"
"Hm? Oh, right. I saw a list of crazy things to do with lemons in Brother's notes the other day, so I transmuted the lemon skins to look like tennis balls instead, but I kept the insides the same."
Suddenly, a repetitive banging sound could be heard just outside the kitchen. Al sneaked over as quietly as possible for him and found Ed pounding his head against the door frame.
"O-oh, hey, Brother! What's up?"
Ed paused his barrage against the door and turned to his brother. "You hid the lemons from me, and then I used the tennis lemons to play fetch with the dogs. That's what's up."
A/N: As of writing this note, it is still 10/3/18 where I live.
Notes regarding my other fics: I have a draft for the next Fandom vs Fandom, and it can be assumed that I have not given up on BGK unless I explicitly state such. I do still work on it, but I keep getting ideas for later scenes, rather than the next one to be posted. -_-
God bless!
