-Understandings and Questions-
Izuku and All-Might sat facing each other. The training room was empty, and their eyes closed as Izuku pulled up One for All, the green lightning running across the boy. It spread and slowly reached out to All-Might; they had tried a few times, but something different from what had happened with the others.
Mr. Tracy: It concerns the connection between the Izuku and the others.
All-Might: It does, though it has been nice talking with you, Mr. Tracy.
Izuku: Maybe because our connection is different All-Might, more of teacher and student. The others, it was more love.
Mr. Tracy: Instead of focusing on your feelings for Izuku, you should focus on your surface for your mentor. She is in here with me, pouting like a schoolgirl that she can't talk to you, but she is here.
All-Might chuckled immediately, being able to picture Nana; he focused on the image, focused on her, the Seventh bearer of One for All. His feeling for her, how much he missed, all the questions that arise when you think of ones that have been taken too soon.
Nana: There you are. How I have missed you.
All-Might: Nana? Is that you? How is this possible?
Nana: It is me. It is a vestige of me. You see, a part of us is held within One for All, and when we pass on, a part of us stays here, and the rest goes on to whatever is after this.
All-Might: Then how is it I could never talk to you before? I never was able to hear your voice.
Nana: I wish I knew; it could be because of Mr. Tracy or because One for All has changed. The kid had been training in one of the other user's quirks; that was something that never happened before, either. Can you hear me, kid?
Izuku: Kind of. It sounds distant, and I have to strain. Dad?
Mr. Tracy: Loud and clear, like always.
Nana: The kid can't hear us, so we relayed things through Mr. Tracy. I don't know how Fourth could share his quirk with the kid, but we all will be able to do so after he has a handle on it.
All-Might: So, he will eventually manifest all the other quirks of the previous bearers of One for All, which will be difficult to explain as that occurs. Speaking of strange, do you know what happens when he links up with his friends?
Nana: We can't see or sense it when it happens; something is shutting us out. If I had to hazard a guess, it has to do with Mr. Tracy being here and One for All itself. We don't see the visions and are only aware of them as they are relayed.
All-Might: That leaves the same questions, but at least it answers a few. We can summarize that unless there is some emotional two-way connection between Izuku and whomever, he can't unlock or empower their quirk. But can he maybe boost their strength in the future or give them some boost?
Nana: That is for the future; I hope we can talk again sometime, but in case we can't, I want you to know how proud I am of you. You exceeded every possible dream or ideal I had when I passed One for All to you. But you neglected your life Yagi; make sure you live that dash with the time you have left, so we have much to talk about when you get here.
All-Might: I will, Nana, I promise. Thank you. I always hoped that I would make you proud.
The connection slowly broke. All-Might wiped a few errant tears that had escaped. Looking at his successor, he smiled. "Thank you, young Midoriya."
All-Might composed himself as he did. He could feel more energized, nothing like what was described by his other students, but there was a definite change.
"Something happened; I feel slightly empowered,"
"So going on the data that we have, if I share a deep emotional connection with someone, it seems that I can connect with them, and One for All empowers their quirk, a quirk awakening. But that didn't happen to you, but it left you energized. Is that because of Nana and your connection or One for All?" Izuku questioned.
"We don't have any way of testing that without bringing in a random person who has no connection," All-Might responded.
"That sounds like a horrible idea; hello, random person, would you like to be part of a quirk test that we can't explain and could have long-lasting effects," Izuku said with a chuckle.
"Well, enough about that for now; let's get back into training. Have you been able to up your control any higher?"
Izuku sheepishly rubbed the back of his head, "I have been able to get it up to 15%, but I haven't pushed any further after all the weird stuff started happening."
"Let's see where we are at,"
"Yes, sir,"
All-Might watched as the lightning emerged quickly from his protégé, proving he could activate much faster than before; as he watched Izuku's face, he saw a peculiar look; it passed quickly. Izuku stopped and looked at his hands, opening, and closings them with a questioning look. "Um, 25%?"
That was weird, son. Did you notice it too?
Yes, it reacted differently.
"Did something happen, young Midoriya?"
"I visualize One for All as a power plant. To activate it am turning a valve; when I turn the valve, it almost wants to explode. I have been walking around a lot with it a 7% to get my body used to channel the energy. This time as I activated it, it seemed to be calmer, less of an explosion and more like a gentle rush." Izuku explained. "When I went to increase the output, unlike other times when more flooded my body, it was the same gentle increase till I felt I had hit the right mark."
"Interesting; well, let's put this to the test. Come at me, Young Midoriya,"
-A Short Time Later-
Izuku lay on his back, hurting in ways he didn't know where possible, and All-Might's massive boot rested on his chest; his gaze drifted up to his Mentor's face.
"I WIN," All-Might said with his trademark smile. "I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT YOU HAVE MADE STEADY AND STRONG IMPROVEMENT, MY BOY, AND ALSO, I WAS RIGHT ABOUT FEELING ENERGIZED; I FELT BETTER THAN I HAVE IN A WHILE DURING THAT FIGHT. IN FACT, WHY DON'T WE CALL THE OTHERS IN DO IT AGAIN."
"Are you sure?"
A smirk passed over All-Might's face as he hoisted his protégé, "DEFINITELY, AND POWER THEM UP. I WANT TO SEE THESE NEW ABILITIES IN ACTION."
-New abilities-
All-Might immediately leaped at his students only to be intercepted by an unseen barrier; he quickly broke it, sending Eijiro skidding back and grunting in pain. Mina's control over her acid was something he was aware of, but he did not expect the girl to be able to use it as a whip and take his feet out.
He let them play out the rest of their plan for Ochaco to use Black Hole. At the same time, Izuku came crashing down on top of him; the immense gravity that the girl was using was incredible. He nearly regretted his action as defending himself from Izuku's attack was brutal.
He could tell that his students had trained hard with their new quirk applications and had worked out various team aspects as well, it was, of course, still clumsy, but he could tell they had put much effort into working together.
He was smiling as he engaged them, watching them adjust and react. They had good instincts, and it was clear that Torino had beat some sense into them. He kept ramping up his speed while holding his strength steady not to overwhelm them completely.
Eijiro went down first as he was absorbing the most damage, followed surprisingly by Izuku, who made a reckless attack to try and end the conflict. True to her vow to protect Izuku, Mina went down next, but not before she pelted All-Might with a hail of acid arrows. He could tell that Mina was shocked by the attack as much as he was. He turned to Ochaco and smiled; his heat was warmed as the girl rose to her feet with a smile. "Bring it," she spat.
All-Might rushed her; he watched in surprise as she didn't fall for his feint but instead was able to slip in a palm strike to his gut, negating his gravity; he allowed her to follow through as she barreled into him with her should pushing them up, she did her best to wrap her arms around him. All-Might, wanting to see where this was going, landed some solid elbows to her back, not wanting to make it too easy. When they reached the ceiling, he heard her yell, "STAR FALL" Feeling gravity increase, they plummeted into the concrete floor.
All-Might was impressed; had he been lesser, he would have been unconscious. It was a powerful attack but somewhat foolish, as he could have done severe damage to her while getting up with her. With a decisive blow, he knocked her out, ending the gravity effect.
As he rose from the crater, he was grinning like a fool; he had been searching for a successor and had stumbled upon one. Not only had he found one, but three others would have made acceptable candidates in their own right. Now with the unexpected change in One for All, it had changed the other three, giving them the most exciting power-ups. All-Might could see it clearly as he had fought them, the connection and love they shared.
They would be unique heroes, pillars of their rights. And they hadn't even made it to U.A. yet. What other connections would be made? What other posts would be formed?
-Moving Forward and changes-
Mina's head was resting on her desk as she groaned; Eijiro had his head tilted back in relief; their final exams were over. Now they just had to wait for the results. As their senses returned, they saw Ochaco and Izuku smiling while packing their bags.
"That's it, I am fried," Mina said, rising to her feet; looking over at Eiji, she laughed. "I think he is broken."
"It wasn't that bad," Izuku said, earning a death stare from Mina.
"Yea, I feel I did very good," Ochaco said.
"I am pretty sure I passed, but that was ridiculous. I don't want to think what the entrance exam will be like," Eijiro said, staring at the ceiling.
Mina shuddered. "Don't even mention that right now. Let's get the hell out of here."
Eijiro nodded and gathered his things. "Are we still going to see our new place tomorrow?"
Izuku smiled, "Yea, let's go pick up your bags, and we can celebrate finishing our finals."
The words of celebration perked up Mina and Eijiro; Ochaco giggled and stole a quick kiss from Izuku. "I can't believe this is all happening; finals are done; the condo is ready; we have our driver's licenses, graduation, moving, Entrance exams, the wedding…."
"HAWAII!" Mina yelled.
"These next three months are going to be insane," Eijiro added. "Thankfully, I am almost done packing. Mina hasn't even started yet."
"NARC," she said with a pout, "Between training, studying, and relaxing, how was I supposed to pack."
Ochaco laughed, "I think you said it yourself."
"Ochaco, you are supposed to be on my side," she whined. "Izu, you will defend me from these monsters, won't you."
"My poor, poor Mina," He said, giving her an exaggerated hug and patting her pink curls. Mina giggled and stuck her tongue out at Eiji and Ochaco.
The four of them laughed and made their way out of the classroom; they lingered slightly as they did so. After next week they would be officially done with high school. The graduation ceremony was Saturday, and the movers were scheduled for the following Wednesday. All-Might had already left, as he had duties to full fill telling them he wouldn't see them again till after the exams. Torino had also returned home; they were still training, but it was on their own.
That's the thing about life, son. It never stops moving or slows down.
I know, Dad, a lot is going on right now.
You are coming into adulthood or the very beginning of it, graduation, moving, college, it isn't going to slow down anytime soon. Enjoy the quiet moments when you and your friends can grab them, like tonight or on the Hawaii trip. After you complete the entrance exams, it will be hero training and schoolwork.
If we all are together, it will be worth it.
That's what having friends and loved ones do. You can have all the money and success in the world, but what does it all mean if you have no one to share it with?
"So, what's the plan again?" Mina asked.
"Saturday, we are going to get up and go do the final walk-through of the condo with Mom and Alex, Ochaco and I have paperwork that we have to sign, Furniture shopping, Dress fittings, and suit fittings for the wedding, and then we can check into the hot springs and relax, come home Sunday night."
"I can't wait to soak in the Hot Springs," Eijiro said.
"It's nice that our parents are going to be there kind of like one last party before everything kicks into high gear," Mina said.
"Yea, it was amazing that they were all able to get the time off," Ochaco said.
-Mina & Ochaco-
Two girls were lounging in bed after commemorating the end of their final exams. Their casual encounter with other students quickly turned into a grand celebration. The night had been pleasant, and now the girls found themselves in the spare bedroom at the Midoriya residence.
"So, Ochaco, are you getting nervous?"
"About?"
"You know everything, the move, exams, Hawaii, sleeping in the same bed with Izu?" Mina said the last part in a husky playful tone.
"Mina!" Ochaco said, happy the lights were out so Mina couldn't see the blush.
"Well?"
"A little; we have fooled around quite a bit. But I think we are ready. We have been together for a while now, the promise rings, the talks, and most importantly, I love him."
"I have to say I am a little jealous. Not that you stole Izuku kind of way, but I wish I had someone I was in love with as well."
"You will, Mina; we are attending college and meeting many people. I am sure you will find someone you have a connection with."
"Thanks, Ochaco,"
"Anytime, Mina, Goodnight"
"Goodnight…"
Ochaco snuggled in, getting ready to drift off thinking of the future when "So Ochaco, you said you fooled around how far…?"
Ochaco turned and saw Mina very close to her, causing an eep to escape her lips. "Ok, but you can't say anything to anyone," Mina nodded. Ochaco pulled the pillow over her face so Mina could not see how red she was about to be dark or not. "Oral."
Mina gasped. "How… How was it?"
Ochaco peaked over the pillow, "Amazing! He is very giving."
Mina giggled and threw the blanket over them conspiratorially, "Ok, deets now!"
Ochaco couldn't help but giggle. "Ok, so we were making out, and he had my top off…."
-Izuku and Eijiro-
"Bro, what was it like?"
"Oh, Eijiro, I can't explain; it was so hot, warm, and amazing."
"I can't wait to experience it for myself."
"You will on Saturday night, I promise."
"You serious?"
"Of course, you are best friend. How could not?"
"Man, you are the best."
"Trust me, after you get a taste, you will wonder how you lived without it."
"I am salivating at the thought."
"Chicago Deep Dish Pizza will blow your mind, Eijiro."
-Furniture Shopping-
"Alex and I are going to look at some living room sets; why don't you and Ochaco pick out your bedroom set," Inko said.
"What about the one I have?"
You will want something much bigger than a twin, my boy, for extra curriculars.
-The Weekend-
It was the first time that Eijiro and Mina had seen the finished condo and were walking around taking it all in; a playful argument about bedroom assignment was being had, settled with Mina pouting her way to victory. The only difference between the rooms was the location, one closer to the living room and one closer to the back. They both had their small private balconies, and each had a pleasant view. The patio for the condo was spacious and had room for an entertainment area which the two teens were already dreaming of a hot tub.
Izuku and Ochaco reviewed the paperwork in the kitchen with Alex and Inko regarding allowance, bank accounts, bills to be paid, and other fees. It was explained that there would be a little left over each month that they could use to upgrade or purchase different things for the condo. That Ochaco had a right to live there and could not be removed from the lease except in severe circumstances such as death, infidelity, and things of that nature.
Ochaco read everything carefully and saw that her parents had already signed off on the agreement; it seemed to protect her rather well in case her and Izuku's relationship failed. It had bothered her initially that such a thing was being written up, but her mother had told her it was for her protection. No teen or young adult ever envisioned their first love ending or failing, but it could and had happened. With her living with Izuku and attending U.A., it was to make sure that should that unforeseeable thing happen; she wouldn't have to give up on her dream.
Izuku mentally understood, but emotionally was a different story as the things that would facilitate Ochaco being removed from the lease were beyond what his mind could reasonably fathom; they were also painful to think about. No one wants to imagine their loved one doing such terrible things, but Mr. Tracy explained simply that while there were people who could see the future now in the age of quirks, they were few and far between, and no one they knew could do that.
The enjoyable part written in the paperwork was if/when the two married and how it would become a joint asset, and that it would become theirs entirely upon graduation. Inko took both their hands and smiled so warmly at the two of them.
"As far as I can see, with the investments and everything else that has been put in place, you two will have ten years of support to focus on your dreams and make them a reality. I love you both so much."
Ochaco and Izuku were stunned into silence at the notion that his mom was giving them ten years of financial support. Supporting them through U.A. and the beginning of their hero careers and if their dreams were coming true at the beginning of their marriage.
The young couple could only wrap their arms around the matriarch and hold her tight; they both muttered their thanks and whispered of making her proud.
Mina and Eijiro were called to review and sign their rental agreements as they composed themselves. It was less of an emotional affair, but in the end, all four stood holding the keys to their new home—next stop furniture store.
Izuku and Ochaco blushed furiously, sanding in the furniture store and standing in the bedroom section. Inko had told them to pick something nice and ensure it was sturdy; she added a wink before walking off to join Alex.
Izuku could still hear Mr. Tracy laughing and adding more comments before he could raise the wall. They had been practicing it as a particular aspect of Izuku's life drew closer. Privacy was a critical aspect of growing up.
The couple looked at the mattresses before their blushes and stammers led them to look at the sets. Soon they calmed themselves and looked at the furniture learning what the other liked and disliked. It took a little while for them to decide, Ochaco wanting to stray towards less expensive options out of habit and Izuku not understanding furniture quality. Ultimately, it took Mr. Tracy talking to Ochaco about how investing in a quality set would save money in the long run and to his son about what to look for in a quality set.
Soon, they settled on a lovely set with matching nightstands, dressers, and vanity table for Ochaco, which she protested, but Inko insisted on. The mattresses were still embarrassing as they had to lie down and find what each one liked more. This was settled for them by Alex, who pointed them to a luxurious adjustable model and then ordered it for them in a king size. Telling them that while a queen size was excellent, they would appreciate the extra room that a king size would provide in the future should they have children.
The most fun was the four kids picking out living room furniture and dining room sets, rugs, and other accessories. Mina and Eijiro were surprised when their parents showed up and had them pick out new bedroom pieces for themselves as well. The teens protested only to be shot down by their parents, telling them they chose for themselves, or the parents would choose for them. The whole experience was terrific. After a great lunch, of which Eijiro and Izuku split and finished an entire Deep-Dish Pizza, the ladies split to go for their dress fitting, and the boys went to handle their suit fittings.
Alex and Eijiro were surprised when the adults had them fitted with more than just the suit for the wedding but with a few others for special occasions. Mina and Ochaco were blushing when Inko and the ladies took them to a high-end lingerie store and had the girls grab undergarments for themselves. Ochaco nearly died when Inko and her mom had her pick out some lingerie and were giving the girl "advice."
The groups reunited to head to the hot springs for their overnight stay. It was fun to see the families intermingling and laughing; it was amusing watching the men who had retreated to an outside garden for cigars and drinks after dinner and the ladies to a separate playground for wine and conversation. The four teens enjoyed the evening by attending the festival and firework show.
Izuku was stunned when he saw Ochaco in her kimono; he leaned in and kissed her cheek delicately, "I just fell in love all over again, Ocha, you look so beautiful."
Ochaco blushed deeply and kissed his lips tenderly, "You make me feel like I am the most beautiful girl in the world."
"That's because you are."
"I think you are biased."
"That may be the case, Ochaco. It doesn't make it any less accurate.
*Authors Note*
So, the next chapter will be the entrance exam and probably the wedding. Then the U.A. arc will begin properly, Bakugo's re-introduction to the story and how or if he has changed in the years since he and Izuku have crossed paths.
So, One For All
There must be a proper emotional connection between the two for an awakening. If not, then it will function as a type of boost.
