Still Blue
Chapter 13
It was a Saturday when Lucas showed up at Brooke's door.
When Brooke looked through the key hole and saw it was him.
She hesitated before unlocking and opening the door.
"What's going on Lucas? I thought i made myself really clear during our last encounter." Brooke questioned.
Lucas looked to Brooke she was dressed down no make up and beautiful as ever.
"Its the weekend. I know our last conversation wasn't great. But i want to spend time with Penelope she's off school until Monday."
"I want her to know me i want to know her." Lucas insisted.
Brooke sighed deeply.
"Daddy! Did you come to visit me?" Penelope asked with a bright smile.
"Yes i thought we could use some quality time today. What do you think?" Lucas asked.
"Yes! Can i go momma please?" Penelope questioned.
Brooke glared at Lucas. "Sure. Have her home by 6."
"Do you have a booster seat?" Brooke questioned.
"I do i talked with Haley and got the right one. I'll bring her back by 6." Lucas replied.
"My cellphone is on." She said. As she looked to Penelope.
Scooping the young girl into her arms hugging her tightly.
Kissing her cheek and her forehead.
"I love you honey bee." Brooke said. Smiling warmly.
"I love you too momma." Penelope replied as she broke free from her mother's arms.
And reached out her hand for her dad's.
Lucas took it holding on securely. Leading the way to the car.
Brooke watched from the porch. Waiting until they drove away until she went inside.
She settled into the living room. Turning on the tv attempting to distract herself.
But that only worked for thirty minutes. Before she grabbed her cellphone went into her contacts and called Rachel.
...
"I want to know all about Penelope." Lucas said. Once they got to the park.
"I like books. Clothes. I want to be a cheerleader. Momma. Aunt Haley and aunt Rachel were cheerleaders. But momma says i have to wait until i'm double digits." Penelope replied.
Lucas smiled and took it all in. As they made their way over to the playground.
Going down slides. Pushing on swings. Monkey bars.
Then they left the park and got lunch at the local diner.
They ate and Lucas shared about growing up with his mom.
His friendship with Haley and his friendship with the river court boys. How basketball was his first friend.
"When did you meet my momma?" Penelope asked.
Lucas ordered both of them milkshakes one chocolate the other vanilla.
"We were 16. We lived in the same town our whole lives but didnt know each other before high school." Lucas explained.
"Why did you and momma stop being friends?" Penelope asked.
Lucas sighed deeply. The memories of Brooke leaving his life were still so vivid he didn't think of that time much at all.
"You kiss Peyton and i'm pushing you away!" Brooke exclaimed.
"It wasn't a romantic moment! Ever since we got back together you've been looking for ways to sabotage us!"
"I love you Brooke! I don't know how else to say it!" Lucas exclaimed.
"How about how you show it!"
I'm not pushing you away Lucas! I'm holding on for dear life!"
"Why don't you ever just let me all the way in!" Brooke exclaimed. Her voice breaking with emotion. Tears falling from her eyes.
Lucas swallowed hard. As he stared back at his daughter.
"I broke her heart." Lucas replied.
"Why?" Penelope asked.
"I should get you home." Lucas replied.
