Fandom: The Evil Within

Ship: No set ship Ruvik/Kagome one-sided/obsession, i don't necessarily ship the two romantically but do think based on his personality he would warp some form of attention onto her.

Tags/Warnings: delves into mental health issues given the setting of the game is a mental health hospital, i do my best to be mindful, as someone who struggles with mental health issues but i am not perfect so if my wording is wrong please correct me!

Spoilers: no major spoilers

Origin date: Circa 2019

Other things of note: this is mostly messy thoughts i had around the first game, i didn't play it myself but watched mark play it and the idea came to me upon a rewatch i think and wrote this,,i did try and edit it/make it a bit more cohesive,,,but once again forgive me for any missed mistakes,, i also haven't watched the playthough of the second game, i did read the wiki and my feelings are mixed, i might have more ideas once i actually see the gameplay tho,,

Light in Shadow

So my idea is essentially that Kagome has always wanted to help others. In the Edo, a lot of stigma surrounded those who are not like others; like demons and hybrids but also to treatment of people who she recognized as neurodivergent. i think she could also see between her, inuyasha, sesshomaru and kikyo, how misunderstandings, passed down traumas/generational trauma and in general not working through your feelings fucks you up.

So when she gets back to the future, while she might not have been able to change the past she can change the future so she goes into medical work is what i originally thought, but it makes more sense for her to be a psychiatrist/medical mental health specialist, im not sure of the exact class but a psychiatrist that works IN the hospital ya know?

and at first she wants to tether down to her own home country but decides she wants to travel/work outside of japan, and she makes her way to the u.s. where ya know the healthcare system is a mess but she sees it as a place of maybe she can make a difference? and from there she finds her way to Beacon mental hospital working as a nurse.

She genuinely wants to help the patients and part of her Miko abilities allow her to use her Aura to help give a sense of serenity and security (i know this is sort of vague but there isn't one way to treat mental health issues/but having someone to ground you/give comforting presence is a big plus), she also just generally treats them as people because they're just people with mental health issues and she is completely unaware of what's going on in the underbelly of the testing with ruvik and the doctor with all these underhanded methods.

So even though kagome looks nothing like Laura, because of her kindness and some of the similar traits like her long dark hair, ruvik sort of sees images of her from the imprints of memory from the patients and he becomes obsessed. especially devloping a fasciantion with the fact that she seems to radiate some type of power or control on her paitens, So when everything goes to the crapper, like Kidman, she isn't affected by the twisting of the mind like most other people who have been sort of brought into the center, like Casiano and Joseph. she's still somewhat affected by the monster but she doesn't get those rage thoughts that Joseph gets

But also ruvik never wanted to hurt her he just kind of wants her so his intent was never to invoke fear, and at first when they're transported to I guess Ruvik's mind, she's kind of Hidden Away in a room and she realizes that everything isn't quite real, and sets out on her own mission of finding out what's going on and discovers the horrible mutations of all the patients and doctors.

At first not wanting to harm any of them because they're her patients and coworkers but she also knows to leave them as is doing them more of a disservice because whatever is happening to them wherever they are, they're in more pain being left as is then shooting an arrow at them.

When she's able to disperse them it's for good and there's no sort of respawning. So when Joseph and Castellano find her there at first thinking she's somehow in on it, then they realize that she can disperse them the creatures that the people have become play more efficiently than they can and that she's not affected so then they sort of become her bodyguards but she also becomes their beacon in a way to get back to the hospital.

Ruvik wants to disrupt this because he wants to capture her for himself but he also doesn't want her to see her as he is so that causes some other issues.
