The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the Mushroom Kingdom, painting the castle in shades of amber and crimson. Inside, the grand hall glowed warmly, candles flickering in the twilight. Despite the setting, tension clung to the air like an unwelcome mist, wrapping itself around every soul in the room. Princess Peach stood at the center of the large table, surrounded by her allies—Zelda, Daisy, and Donkey Kong—all wearing expressions that echoed the turmoil in her heart.

The sound of creaking doors interrupted the silence. Peach's heart skipped a beat as the unmistakable echo of metal footsteps approached. All eyes turned toward the entrance as Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass, Rush, and Treble walked in, their presence radiating power and purpose. They moved with a confidence that brought immediate reassurance to the room.

Peach took a moment to gather herself, then stood tall, smiling as she approached the newcomers. Her voice wavered slightly, her emotions still raw.

"Thank you for coming," she began, swallowing her uncertainty. "I... I don't know how to express my gratitude to you all. Especially since you're not exactly from here." She wrung her hands together, nerves making her movements fidgety. "What do I offer as thanks to robots who've saved my kingdom?"

Mega Man stepped forward, his calm blue eyes meeting Peach's. "Your thanks is more than enough, Princess. Dr. Light is on his way as well. For now, he's provided shielding technology to reinforce your defenses at the warp zone. It should stop anyone from breaching your kingdom again."

A wave of relief washed over Peach, and she let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. "That's... incredible. Thank you."

Before she could say more, Zelda took a step forward, her excitement bubbling over. "Oh my gosh, it's Mega Man! The Super Fighting Robot Mega Man!" She clasped her hands together, eyes wide with awe. "I've only heard stories, but they don't do you justice! You've fought so many battles, saved countless—"

Daisy, ever the one to bring levity, laughed and nudged her friend. "Zelda, breathe. You're gonna pass out."

Zelda blushed, but her smile remained. "But it's really them! Mega Man, Proto Man, and even Bass! Bad guy turned ally!"

Bass, standing at the back with his arms crossed, raised an eyebrow at Zelda's enthusiasm but couldn't hide the slight grin tugging at his lips.

Donkey Kong, who had been observing quietly, nodded approvingly. "You've got a solid team, Mega. It's good to know we've got more help on our side." He reached into his stash and pulled out a banana, offering it to Rush, who sniffed it curiously before wagging his tail in thanks.

Proto Man chuckled. "I don't think he's programmed to eat bananas, but the thought counts."

For a moment, the heaviness lifted, replaced by genuine smiles and laughter. It was a precious moment of light in the darkness, a chance to feel the warmth of hope.

Suddenly, a toad burst into the hall, panting and wide-eyed. "Princess Peach! We've just received word... The Great Fox is requesting to land at the castle"

Peach's heart tightened with unease. "The Great Fox, here? They've never left the Corneria system before." She exchanged a worried glance with Zelda, then turned to the toad. "Allow them to land, but have guards stationed around the courtyard. Be ready. It may not be them."

Together, they all made their way outside, just in time to see the Great Fox descend from the sky, its engines humming with a low, resonant sound. As it settled, its ramp lowered, and out stepped Fox McCloud, his stride as confident as ever but with an unusual weight in his eyes.

Peach moved forward to greet him, calling off the guards and forcing herself to smile. "Fox, I am Princess Peach. I have heard a lot about you from Samus." She noticed Fox's expression, unsettling her. "I wasn't expecting you. What's happened?"

Fox bowed slightly, his voice tinged with urgency. "Princess Peach, I'm sorry for the sudden arrival. There's something... you need to see. It's not good."

A cold shiver ran down Peach's spine. The gravity in Fox's tone made her stomach twist in knots, but she forced herself to stay composed. "Show me," she said, her voice steady though her heart pounded painfully in her chest.

Fox nodded grimly and gestured for her to follow. The group moved in silence, the atmosphere thick with unspoken dread. Each step seemed to echo louder than the last as they made their way toward the castle's hangar bay. The tension was palpable, suffocating, as if the very air around them was bracing for something terrible.

Peach's mind raced, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't settle on any explanation. What could Fox possibly have discovered that had shaken him so deeply? Her thoughts spun in circles, each possibility more unsettling than the last, but none prepared her for what lay ahead.

She glanced at Zelda walking beside her. Zelda's usually calm expression was strained, worry etched into every line of her face. Daisy, on her other side, walked quietly, her usual light-heartedness replaced by a somber, tense silence. Even Donkey Kong, who typically exuded confidence and strength, appeared ill at ease.

The door to the hangar bay slid open with a low hiss, and the cold, metallic air hit Peach like a wall. She hesitated for just a moment before stepping inside, her eyes adjusting to the dim lighting. There, bathed in shadows and flickering light, lay the remains of Samus's gunship.

Her breath caught in her throat.

What was once a sleek, powerful vessel, was now a crumpled, blackened heap of twisted metal. Sparks flickered faintly from scorched wires, and shattered panels littered the floor. The ship was barely recognizable—its destruction complete, total.

Peach's knees buckled as her thoughts spiraled into chaos. She collapsed onto the cold floor, her hands clutching at her chest as if the pain would tear her apart from the inside out. The scream that tore from her throat was raw and filled with anguish. "No...!"

Zelda and Daisy rushed to her side, their arms wrapping around her, but Peach couldn't feel them. The world around her blurred into a haze, and all she could focus on was the wreckage before her—the undeniable reality of Samus's ship, destroyed beyond repair, crashing down on her like a wave of cold darkness.

This can't be real... it can't be. The thought looped endlessly in her mind, desperate for some shred of hope. But why...? Why this? Why now...?

Her tears blurred her vision further, and the gnawing emptiness in her chest consumed her. Nothing made sense. She couldn't grasp the reality of it, couldn't fathom how everything had fallen apart so quickly.

Zelda's voice cut through the fog, shaky but determined. "Peach... Samus is strong. This doesn't have to be the end."

But Peach couldn't hear her. She was drowning in grief, each breath ragged and heavy as she tried to hold herself together. But it was no use. The pain was too much. Too real.

Fox knelt beside her, his expression soft with sympathy, but his eyes still held that ominous shadow. "Peach... there's more."

She barely registered his words, her sobs still choking the air. She lifted her tear-streaked face to meet his eyes, her voice no more than a broken whisper. "What do you mean?"
