I want to remember us until the end-Chapter 13
McGarrett's home, 4:00 AM, Honolulu, O'ahu, Hawaii
Like every morning, Steve woke up early, but his eyes frowned when he saw it was just 4:00 AM.
He looked at the other side of the bed, sure to find Catherine asleep, but it was empty and for a little time now because the sheets were cold.
He stood up and went to find her. She was on the beach, sat down of one of the chairs. Eddie was on her sides and Steve walked silently, trying to make no noise. And when he saw Cath's expression, he felt very surprised: she looked like in pain, fixing the sea while twisted up her engagement ring. Steve began to think she regrated what happened this last evening, regretting their engagement and he began to worry seriously.
He walked a few steps forward and arrived next to Catherine, who noticed him.
-"Hey" she whispered.
-"Hey, Cath, you okay?" Steve asked sat down next to her.
-"I couldn't sleep so, I came here to reflect" she replied.
-"What happen, Cath? You aren't happy? You regret that…"
-"No, Steve! No, I don't regret anything because I'm happy right now. I… I was just thinking about the fact I never tell you the right reason why I've left for the CIA, and I don't want to hide you something because we gonna be married and, for me, marriage means each other must know everything about the other, you understand? I want anything between you and me."
-"I understand, Cath. I listen" Steve said, but he was a little bit scared about what Catherine wanted to tell him.
Some tears appeared on Cath's face, because she had the impression everything she gonna say next can spoil her story with the man in front of her, and it was the last thing she wanted to happen. She reassured herself when she felt Steve's hand wipe away her tears.
-"I don't know how to begin" she confessed.
-"Everywhere you want, Cath. That's okay."
-"Do you remember when you and Danny were under the building? she asked and Steve nodded. It was the CIA, you know that and you have killed one of the agency."
-"It was an accident. It was me or him."
-"I know, sailor, I know it but CIA is not as nicest as me. After, we went to Afghanistan to find Najib and the end is not beautiful".
-"I'm okay now, Cath but why the fact we've gone to Afghanistan is important now."
-"A CIA's officer asked you of you were alone."
-"I've said yes." Steve declared.
-"I know it, but they found me just after I took Najib home, almost two months after my departures. They told me I hadn't to be here, and I saw the agent's smile when he saw in my bag your papers, because I couldn't destroy it. They showed me the movie when you were tortured while I had my contract at the CIA in my hands. They told me if I wouldn't sign, it will be them who gonna do that again on you."
Catherine stopped her story during a minute for crying in Steve's arms. They were snuggled up together.
-"I…I can't live in a world without you, sailor, you know? I signed this paper, and I was scared about what going to happen next." Cath said.
-"Why when you were in Hawaii for Kono's wedding, you hadn't told that to me?" Steve asked.
-"I wouldn't make you worry for me. I was sure they going to be nice with me and let me go away, but I was wrong. I was honest when I told to Danny that stay was the thing I wanted the most, but I couldn't."
-"Does Doris knew that? This story?" Steve asked again.
-"When we were in the plane after Morrocco, she asked me some questions because she was surprised to see me at the agency. And she was angry when she learnt the story because she said to me she entered in the CIA to protect you, Mary and your father but the CIA going to destroy you. She said to me she always saw that you and me were soulmate, and she's right."
-"Yeah, she's right" Steve laughed slowly.
-"I'm sorry, sailor, so sorry. Trust me."
-"I know you are. But you haven't to do that for me."
-"This is love, Steve, just love" Catherine whispered.
He nodded before kissed the woman of my life and his dreams.
TAADAAM! Now, we know why Catherine had to left Hawaii and Steve. I always thought it can be the only reason for because we can see the love in their eyes when they are together.
