KHR: Children of the Sky
Target 0.4: Reborn
Ah, that brat is learning faster than his father. Reborn sighed in thought as he walked down the halls. He had just finished, sparring with the second oldest Sawada child, and was actually tired for once. The young boy had been training ever since he awakened the use of his flame. After knocking the boy out cold, Reborn used this chance to run away.
Oh well, he was always close to me. With the way his training is going, he might be a good candidate for the next Vongola boss. Well, he's already reached where his father started when he was a teen at the age of 12. He thought to himself but stopped in his tracks, erasing his presence, when he listened to some people talking.
"You heard as well, correct?" One maid spoke. There were three maids and one butler. They were cleaning up a guest room. This room belongs to Haru, who was staying here for a couple of days.
"Yeah, apparently she proposed to the Master and he accepted." The only male spoke up, sounding jealous and annoyed.
"To think he would remarry after losing his wife. It's crazy to even imagine." One of the maids sighed. "Sure they have been seeing each other for 3 years and now they're going to get married?"
Ah, talks of Tsuna marrying Haru? So she came to save a broken man? Well, she could do it since she was closer to her* than any of us. Maybe he'll love Haru. What a twisted way of marrying your childhood crush, Haru. Reborn snickered but was caught by surprise when the last maid spoke up.
"Not to mention, she's with a child." The maids' words sent a ripple down his spine. "I saw him playing with the princess and he seemed to be normal, but I can't imagine what kind of influence he'll be. I mean, sure, he's able to control her outburst, but he's also corrupting her. What if he falls in love with our princess?"
"I saw him! He looks just like his mother." One of the maids giggled. "He gave our princess an old and worn-out fox plushie. Our princess has so many beautiful toys yet he gave her something that should be in the trash? I think that commoner is already in love! Haha!"
They all joined with laughter, except Reborn. He held his head and sighed. "She ended up having the child?" He sighed. "I've been away for too long." he looked out the window to see the bright sky. "Maybe I should kill that brat now?" He growled to himself.
"What did you say?!" A girl's voice boomed in the hall.
Reborn blinked to see from his hidden spot, a small girl at the door of the room where the servants were cleaning. She had long honey blonde hair with two stands framing her face, tired with two blue ribbons. Her light blue dress matched the white rabbit doll she had that wore a bow. The moment he saw her face, he knew who she was. "Kiyomi." He whispered.
"Princess!" The servants got down and bowed at the girl. "Please forgive our late greeting."
He watched in awe as the small girl walked towards the group and kicked the mop bucket so it would splash on them. "I asked you a question! What did you all say?"
The male spoke up. "We said that Lady Haru brought an unwanted child." Oh, was Reborn in his own world that he didn't hear that?
"What else?" Kiyomi asked, clearly annoyed.
"That he was just an unwanted bastard child." Man, Reborn was losing his game.
"And?!" Kiyomi yelled again.
"He would be a bad influence to our Princess…" The last maid spoke up, now tearing up. Ah, Reborn caught up.
"How dare you all say such things." The small girl stared at them all, clearly angry. "Haru-san is our guest and yet you speak so badly of her. She's going to marry my Papa so she's going to be my mom! That means, she's your next mistress!"
Reborn watched the girl and smirked. Unlike the oldest who was careful with his actions and planned his next step after his action, and the second troublemaker who sprint ahead without thinking, this small girl was able to stand up for her future family. What's her next step? Now he was entertained.
"Pl-Please forgive us, Princess." One of the maids spoke up, looking at the girl with a smile. Reborn could see that she was looking down on the small girl. Well, no surprise there.
"Are you saying for me to forget your words?" The child's words slapped that smile off the woman's face and replaced it with despair. "How dare you mock me. Do you think I'm that much of a fool to forget your words and act as if you didn't commit treason?"
"Princess?" The maid spoke as the small girl turned to one of the flower vases and knocked it to the ground, making it shatter into many pieces. "Princess! Please be careful."
With a slick move, Kiyomi grabbed a piece of the broken vase and pointed it to the maid's lips. "As punishment, how about I take out that tongue of yours so that this mistake won't happen again?" She asked, holding the vase piece with one hand and a cute rabbit in another.
Amazing. One thing that Kyoko did well was to make sure everyone didn't look down on her for being a pretty wife of a mafia boss. She trained herself with a dagger to be able to stand up for herself. Reborn had trained her after all. However, it was like the body of the small girl was possessed by Kyoko's soul to stand up for her best friend. Her words, movements… Was this really an eight-year-old child?
"PLEASE FORGIVE US!" The maids screamed together and snapped Reborn back into the present. He saw Kiyomi pull the maid's hair and cut it off with the vase shard while the others were slowly backing away from the crazy child.
"I should stop this." Reborn sighed as pulled out his gun. Stepping into the room, he gained all the attention. "Enough, Princess." He called the girl who was frozen at the sound of his voice.
Kiyomi looked back at the man and walked over to him. "They said mean things about Haru-san." She pouted, clearly not wanting to apologize.
"I heard." Reborn smirked as he took his hat and placed it on the girl's head. "Now close your eyes and ears, Princess. I don't think kids should witness this." His shadow covered the faces of the servants before he pulled the trigger.
…
"Did you kill them?" Kiyomi asked as she held onto the rabbit in her arms. While Reborn took care of the servants and asked others to clean up the mess, Kiyomi used the hat to cover her eyes and her hands to cover her ears. Without seeing or hearing anything, Kiyomi could get an idea of what had happened.
"Yeah." Reborn sighed as he carried the girl. "I didn't like the way they spoke about Haru."
The small child leaned against the man's chest and smiled. "Really? You like Haru-san too?" When she saw his nod, she giggled. "That's great! I always thought Reborn was a scary person, but you like Haru so that means you're nice!"
"Hehe, I wouldn't say that." He chuckled, remembering his past with the said woman. "By the way, you stood up for Haru and her son, correct? I'll make sure no servant dares to say such things."
"No, they should." Kiyomi pouted. "If they do, then I'll get rid of them." The way it was said meant that she could punish them, but to Reborn, it felt like she meant that she would have them killed. What would have happened if he let her loose?
"Princess," Reborn spoke up, getting her attention. "Are you, by any chance, insane?"
The girl looked at him with a blank stare and looked down. "I dunno."
"This is the cost of not watching your children properly, Dame-Tsuna." Reborn smirked. There had been rumors of the girl being an exact copy of Kyoko. Other times, it would seem like Kiyomi was a person that lost their mind. Today was proof of that. Interesting. "Do you wish to be the next boss of the Vongola Family?"
"Not really." Kiyomi spoke. "I don't know what a boss does, but I don't think I'll like it."
"Tell me then," the hitman smirked, "what do think of Haru's son?"
"Kotaru?" so that's his name. "He's really nice to me. I love being with him and he makes me calm. Whenever I get angry, I run to him to calm down." She spoke while looking at the rabbit. "I can't let him see that bad side of me."
"But that's not possible." Reborn told her, making her angry.
"Why is that?" She growled.
This child is trying to intimidate me like the way she did with those maids? Reborn thought. This child really is something else. I know she can feel how strong I am by me carrying her. She must be testing me.
"Everyone will speak badly since Kotaru has a horrible father." Reborn told her. He was pleased to see her curious expression take over her face.
"His father?" She repeated. "Who's Koe's father?" Reborn stopped walking and whispered in her ear, making sure only she could hear. After telling the child, he was shocked to see her expression. "What… No way. That man is…"
"Shh." Reborn continued his walk. "Not even Kotaru knows, so don't say it out loud. Now…" he smiled when she covered her mouth, "since you know that, you'll end up as Koe's enemy. But if you…"
He whispered again in her ear as they walked, the girl looking bored. However, Reborn could tell she was interested in his words. Once he was finished, he saw the girl staring at her rabbit, looking pleased.
"Hmm, that doesn't sound bad at all." Kiyomi smiled and jumped out of the hitman's arms. Spinning in a circle, she swung the rabbit around and around. "Alright. I'll do it. Set me up, Reborn. Or should I say, Sensei~!" She turned to smile at him, shocking the hitman.
Instead of a strategic and insane child or even Kyoko's small clone, there stood a child that was calm and innocent, hugging her rabbit. It was like she had a split personality, but Reborn could tell that it was the same girl.
"Just how much did she suffer at your hands, Tsuna?"
…
In the meeting, Tsuna sat down with Basil on his left and Xanxas on his right. Behind him were Hayato Gokudera and Takashi Yamamoto. On the other side of the room were Reborn, Mukuro, Chrome, and Hibari. Behind Basil was Oregano, who had become his right-hand woman and behind Xanxas was Squarlo, looking very annoyed.
"Today, I came to the decision that my successor will be Takeo." Tsuna spoke up, gainning everyone's attention. "He's already surpassed my old-self and is training every day. Isn't that correct, Reborn?"
"Yeah. It's amazing since he's a bit of an airhead." Reborn chuckled.
"I disagree, Tsuna-dono." Basil spoke up. "Takumi-kun is weaker than his twin, but he clearly has a great mindset for the future of the Vongola Family."
"I second that, Boss." Hayato stood forward.
"Really?" Takashi frowned. "Takeo is the better option for the state this world is going in."
"That's why Takumi is the better option." Storm sighed. "We need brains instead of power in the future."
"VOI!" Squarlo yelled. "Power over brains! Besides, that brat can learn how to use his head!"
"Enough."Tsuna sighed. "As the tutor of the current boss, I would like to hear Reborn's opinion. Do you think that my sons should battle for the title?"
Reborn saw his chance and smirked. "Sure, they can fight for it, but neither will win." He spoke as he walked to the table and sat in the chair opposite from Tsuna's seat.
"What do you mean, Reborn?" Tsuna raised an eyebrow.
"I think Tsuna should choose Takeo Sawada, Basil should choose Takumi Sawada, and I…" He kicked his feet on the table, " your daughter, Dame-Tsuna. I choose Kiyomi Sawada."
The silence in the room was broken by Hibari who only smirked. "Wow. The baby is sponsoring the bunny?"
"I heard that she's a bit insane." Mukuro thought about it. "Aiming to be like her mother, she's interesting indeed."
"She looks just like Kyoko." Chrome mumbled as she looked at Tsuna. "However, she acts like Boss."
A small crack could be heard and then the whole table broke, making Reborn's feet land on the floor. "What did you say?" Tsuna growled.
Like father, like daughter. "I choose your daughter." He repeated. "Got a problem with that?"
"Stop joking, Reborn," Tsuna spoke. "Takeo or Takumi. Choose."
Seeing his calm student getting mad, Reborn stood up. "Kiyomi. I see she has what it takes to be a better boss than you. I actually witnessed it today and told her that I want her to be boss. She agreed to it, Tsuna. Isn't that great?"
Xanxas stared at the hitman and sighed. "Then let her at it."
"I trust Reborn." Basil closed his eyes and then looked at Tsuna. "Don't you, Tsuna-dono?"
The air was still as Tsuna thought about what he heard. After a minute, he let out a sigh. "Okay. I'll approve of this. As for their tutors, Dino has volunteered for Takumi due to Basil's request. Takeo will be under your wing, Reborn." He stared at the hitman, who was unfazed.
"And for Kiyomi?" Reborn asked.
"I'll take her." Hibari spoke up, shocking everyone. Well, except for Reborn. "My daughter has been asking for a friend. I'll take her to Japan."
Tsuna stared at his cloud and sighed. "Okay, I'll leave her in your hands, Hibari." He got up to his feet and looked at the other people in the room. "Alright, now, the meeting is adjourned." He turned and let his cape flap in the air.
Once everyone was out of the room, Reborn looked at Hibari. "Have you met Kiyomi?" He asked.
"Seen her from afar." Hibari spoke, staring at the broken table. "She was with The Fox's son."
"I told her about that fox." The hitman sighed. "She needs to control herself. Teach her that."
"Hmph." The Cloud smirked. "This is going to be interesting. Can I change a lion into a rabbit?" He saw Reborn walking towards the door. "Well, do you think she can be boss?"
"She has a goal." Reborn chuckled. "And, I know she can change this world. She's her mother's daughter, after all."
…
"Why is Kiyomi a candidate, Tsuna-san?!" Haru yelled, clearly angry. "You said that you can only have two opinions!"
"Calm down, Haru-san." Enma chuckled as a maid poured some tea.
The three were in a meeting room, enjoying tea. Meanwhile, just right outside, Kiyomi was sitting down, making flower crowns with a red-haired girl and a younger white-haired girl. It seemed like just a get-together for the two bosses and Haru.
"Reborn sponsored her, I didn't." Tsuna sighed. He looked at his daughter and smiled when she let out a giggle. "To be honest, I can't see her as a boss."
"I can." Enma smiled. "In the mafia world, I know it's bad, but females don't have a good reputation. It's either they are heavily protected or they become monsters, beyond human common sense. The weak ones are usually the males that have no training or those protected females."
Haru looked at her tea. "I hate to admit it, but you're right…" He looked at the three girls and sighed. "If Koe was a girl, I wouldn't have let her near the Vongola Family."
Tsuna sighed. "To be honest, Reborn doesn't have a say in the succession, but he has a good judge of character… When the Ring battles were going on, I had both my father's and Vongola Ninth's support. Xanxus only took Ninth's support for himself in order to fight for my half of the ring. In a way, Kiyomi is in the same position as Xanxus from back then."
"Except, she has people supporting her. She might not have your support nor the CEDEF's support, she'll be fine." The three turned to see Xanxus walking into the room with Squarlo behind him. "After all, she has a strong mindset, unlike the young foolish me."
"Thanks to me neglecting her as a child." Tsuna sighed, gaining attention from Haru who patted his back. "Thanks…" He looked at the three girls. "I never thought of Kiyomi as the next boss, but… I have to admit since Reborn brought it up… I wanna see what she can do."
"So you're going to let her run to be the next boss?" Haru asked, watching the girls run over to the glass door that allowed them to enter the room. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah…" Tsuna smiled as Kiyomi was the first to enter. "Kiyomi, come here."
The small bunny skipped to her father's side and smiled. "Yes, Father?" She asked, tilting her head. The redhead went to her father, sitting on his lap. While the white-haired girl ran to Squarlo's arms and was carried by him.
"Reborn told me that he wants you to be the next boss of the Vongola family. I know that doesn't make sense how, but you are in the running. I can't give you my full support but if you get scared, it's okay to back out." Tsuna explained. "Also, I'll find you some guardians that can support you."
"That's okay, Father! I already have two guardians in mind!" Kiyomi cheered. "I want my storm to be Koe!" She shocked everyone in the room with this statement. "And the second one, I want Zach!"
"Koe and Zach?" Tsuna blinked. He could understand Koe, but why Zach?
Zach, also known as Zachary, was a boy that Chrome found during her missions. She brought him back and with Tsuna's help cared for him as her own. He grew close to Takumi and Tsuna actually thought that he would become Takumi's Mist. Now, Kiyomi is asking for him.
Kiyomi smiled as she walked towards the door. "I gotta go and tell them. If I get rejected, I'll let Father know! Bye, bye~!"
"Ah, Kiyomi!" Tsuna tried to call out to her to stop her but it was too late. "What is she thinking?"
"Interesting." Xanxus chuckled and followed the girl out, Squarlo following him with the small girl in his arms. "Later, Sawada."
"Later, Brat." Squarlo sighed as the small girl waved goodbye.
"We should get going too, Mami." Enma got up, holding the red-haired girl's hand. "We'll be going home soon."
"I wanna go with Kiyomi!" Mami yelled, pouting. "She said she going to Japan. I wanna go too!"
"Ah… We'll see about that. For now, let's go to our room." Enma chuckled as he carried his own daughter. "Good night, Tsuna-kun. Haru-san."
"Yes, please enjoy the rest of the day." Haru smiled as the father-daughter duo left. Once they were alone, Haru looked at her husband and smiled. "Tsuna-san… Kiyomi…"
"She's just a candidate that no support from the Vongola boss and CEDEF. Xanxus killed the other candidates when we were in middle school. Less competition." Tsuna sighed. "Either way, she's the underdog in the competition."
"That's not what I meant." Haru sighed. "I want you to promise me…" She went and hugged him from behind, "Please protect your daughter."
"Of course." Tsuna blinked and then smiled. "I'm glad I married you."
