Hello! Thanks for all the following and reviews for this story! It means a lot to me! Here's the next chapter~!
KHR: Children of the Sky
Target 2: The Test
"Are you sure you can skip school?" Koe asked as the couple walked into the secret entrance to the Underground base. The two had decided to leave the school grounds to go on a date. However, instead of taking the front door, Kiyomi wanted to make the report about her new guardian so they went the way she left.
"Sure, I'm sure." Kiyomi smiled, holding his arm. "Besides, making the report that you're my Storm is very important."
"If you say so." Koe sighed as he used his flames to hide their presence. "You know that my mist flames aren't as strong as my storm so the cameras will see us."
"I don't want people messing with my moment with you today. After making my report, I want to go on a date with you~!" The girl smiled.
"Fine." He finally gave in. "However, I want you to at least understand that this isn't a date. It's just us hanging out and catching up."
"So a date?" Kiyomi smiled and giggled when he made a face. "Okay, okay. This is just a family outing… With just us step-siblings."
That's right. These two were step-siblings since Kiyomi's father and Koe's mother married each other. Kiyomi's mother, Kyoko Sawada, passed away when Kiyomi was born and her father remarried Haru when Kiyomi was 8 years old. The two children, plus Kiyomi's older brothers, got along swimmingly.
However, why are Kiyomi and Koe kissing as soon as they see each other? … Well, there were things that were kept secret from their parents.
Once the two had finished their business, they left the underground base and Kiyomi wore some casual clothing. Her long hair was loose and styled in a half-up braided ponytail. Standing next to Koe, the two looked more like a couple on a date than siblings.
"So, how was it? Are you stronger now?" Kiyomi asked as Koe brought their drinks. The two were at a cafe and grabbed some snacks and drinks to start their day. Now sitting down, Kiyomi wanted to hear about Koe's adventures.
Smiling, the boy nodded. "Mukuro is no joke." He chuckled. "I honestly thought I was going to die. However, I did pick up some tricks and such."
"Like what?" Kiyomi asked and then blinked when Koe's face changed into someone else's. Actually, it wasn't just the face but this whole appearance had changed, "Woah! No way!"
"This is the appearance that everyone but you can see." Koe chuckled as he reverted to his original look. "I can stay in this appearance for about three weeks straight." He smiled. "I can make a few Real Illusions, but they don't last long. Depending on the size, small objects can stay for days but large objects or even people, I can do for about 5 hours." He shrugged and then smiled at Kiyomi who was clapping her hands.
"That's awesome!" Kiyomi giggled. "I want Mist flames too." Kiyomi sighed and then took a sip. "What about the places you saw?"
He frowned. "Those places weren't all sunshine and rainbows, Kiyomi." Shaking his head, Kiyomi looked at him, worried. "He showed me how much the world can corrupt. I thought Mukuro was bad, but those places… whoever caused them were monsters."
Kiyomi looked away. Mukuro was tasked with going around the world and cleansing the world of corrupted mafias. If a family stepped out of line and endangered innocent people, Mukuro and his team were to kill or erase that family. This was something that Mukuro and Tsuna agreed on since Mukuro stepped down as Tsuna's Mist guardian, allowing Chrome to be the sole Mist Guardian for Vongola Decimo. Kiyomi never met either Mist user but she knew she could trust both of them since Reborn recommended them for Koe's training.
"What about you?"
Kiyomi jumped at the question and looked over at him. Seeing his warm smile made her giggle. "Well, I came here to train under Hibari-sensei. I am learning how to run a squad and how to control my flames."
"How's your HDWM?" Koe asked, now very curious.
"Incomplete." Kiyomi sighed. "The process is going well and I can stay in that mode for hours, but…"
"That Zero-Point Breakthrough, huh?" Koe chuckled as the girl slumped in her seat, nodding. "I'm sure you'll get it." He spoke before taking a sip from his coffee.
"You say that, but…" Kiyomi looked at the sky and sighed. "Aiming to become a boss is harder than it seems."
At that moment, the boy blinked. "Oh yeah." He put his drink down and smiled. "Why do you want to be the next boss?"
"Huh?" Kiyomi asked, clearly shocked at his question. "Oh, uh… It's not important right now since I have a couple of regrets." She shrugged. "For now, let's go shopping~! Papa and Haru should be arriving in a couple of hours and honestly, I don't want to go back to school." She smiled as she walked over to make the boy stand up. "I want to get matching outfits or something. Let's go!"
Koe blinked as he was being pulled away. Was she hiding that reason from him? Yes, but why? He had no clue. However, he was sure that she was going to tell him soon. Oh well, let's just go have some fun.
Kiyomi and Koe arrived at the Sawada household and surprised Nana and Iemitsu. The grandparents haven't seen the child since he left for his training, just like Kiyomi, but unlike the girl who would receive letters from the boy, they could only rely on her letters to know if he was doing well.
"Papa is already in Japan now?" Kiyomi asked, blinking at the information. "Is he working?"
"No." Her grandfather spoke up. "He's with Haru to see her father."
"Oh!" Kiyomi looked at Koe. "Did you see your grandpa?"
"Yeah. I'm staying at his place for the time being." He sighed when the girl pouted. "As much as I love this place, it's going to be packed when Tsuna-san comes back. Plus, Grandpa lives alone so I should keep him company since I'm here."
Kiyomi sighed. This house had a remodel and now had three rooms instead of two. One room belonged to Kiyomi, her father's old bedroom, another was for Nana and Iemtsu, and the last room was for I-Pin. However, since Tsuna, Haru, and Tsuna were returning home, there was a chance that Tsuna and Haru would be in I-Pin's room, and Kiyomi would share with I-pin. Reborn usually stayed in the underground base, mostly because he had an office there.
"I'm glad that Tsuna is coming back but your brothers are coming back next week." Nana sighed. "I wanted to see my grandchildren all together."
"Patience, Nana." Iemitsu chuckled. They all heard a car door close and smiled. "Looks like they're home."
Kiyomi got to her feet and raced out the door to see a black car and the driver open the backseat. The first person to step out was a tall man with curly sideburns. He placed the fedora hat on his head and smirked at the girl as he took a step to a side. He helped a woman with dark brunette hair out of the car. She had long brunette hair that was in a low ponytail and wore some slim framed glasses. Wearing a cute dress with a pretty floral pattern at the edge of her dress, the woman looked like a friendly woman.
"Mom!" Kiyomi rushed over and hugged the woman. "I missed you so much~!"
"Kiyomi-chan~!" Haru giggled as she hugged the girl back. "I missed you too." She looked up to see her son and froze. "Koe…?"
Koe only smiled as Kiyomi slid out of the hug to let Haru walk up to her son. Just like Kiyomi, Koe wrote letters to his mother and Kiyomi only. Of course, some were postcards, but he always managed to send one per month.
"Hey, Mom." Koe smiled as he held his mother. "I'm home."
Kiyomi turned to Reborn as Nana escorted the two Miura's inside. "So? While they're having a family moment, I need to speak with both of you."
"Get in." A voice spoke from inside the limo.
Reborn looked at the girl and nodded his head. Kiyomi looked back to see Iemitsu walking toward them and hopping into the car after her. The last to enter was Reborn. Inside the limo, there were two sets of seats that faced each other. In the front left sat a man with gravity-defying hair that spiked up. He wore a black suit with a gray striped vest and orange tie.
Sitting in front of the man, Kiyomi smiled. "Hello, Father~!" She smiled. "I see you have been well."
"Drop the act." Tsuna frowned. "Tell me. Did you give Koe a ring?"
The innocent smile vanished and a frown was on the girl's face. Before, she had a nice and sweet aura, but now it became twisted and slightly annoying. "I did. Problem?"
"I don't want him," Tsuna argued.
"Remind me when I actually care about your opinion." Kiyomi flipped off the man and smirked. "Well, I'm excited to see what he can do."
"Eichi is a better option." The father sighed. He pulled out a binder and showed her the said boy's file. The binder had other files of other potential candidates for Kiyomi's guardians. "It's either him or someone else, not Koe."
"Please, he's nothing but a puppet." Kiyomi sighed. "Besides, it's not like you actually see Koe as your son." She smirked when her father glared at her. "Don't act as you care. You never saw us as your own."
"Kiyomi!" Iemitsu snapped at the girl but she looked out the window. "There's a difference between Koe's just as a member of the Vongola and being your guardian."
"If she wants him and he's okay with it, I don't see the problem." Reborn shrugged, earning a glare from his old student. "It's already been done. Now, as for the next guardians…"
"I got it covered." Kiyomi smiled. "And for that, I need you to give me leadership over it Reborn." She crossed her legs and smirked at the man. "Well, wanna step down and see what I have up my sleeves?"
"She disappeared before school started and now texts us to meet us here at her office at midnight?!" Rin sighed. "What the heck is wrong with her?"
"It couldn't be helped." Eiichi smiled. "She had to run to meet with her parents." A boy with reddish-brown hair smiled. This redhead was Eiichi Nishimura and was the student council president. He was also the boy that trained under Kurosawa and had a crush on Kiyomi. His blue eyes locked with annoyed brown eyes. "Come on, Hibari-chan. Forgive her."
"She disappeared," Natsuki growled. "She didn't tell us anything. I asked my father if he had seen her and he knew she was going to leave to meet with her parents. However, that was after school." The girl hugged herself and sighed. "They talked about a fox this morning…"
"A fox? Now she has a pet fox?" Rin yelled, clearly angry. "You gotta be kidding me!"
"Well, well, well…" Koe chuckled as he saw the three standing against the door. "Looks like people like to talk shit." He wanted to laugh so hard when Natsuki and Rin stood in a fight stance and glared at the boy. "Oh? What's this?"
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Natsuki asked, readying her hand to grab her weapon. "Answer now before I beat you to death."
"Oh? Well, go for it." Koe grinned as he showed her the ring on his finger. Their shocked faces made him shrug. "Figures that she never spoke about me. I'm that fox she was talking about this morning."
"What?" Eiichi asked as the Storm walked up to them and opened the office door. Inside was empty and the redhead watched as the newcomer sat at the desk. "Who are you?"
"Kotaro Miura," Koe answered as he logged into the computer. "You can call me Koe for short."
"Koe?" Rin asked as they entered the room. "Wait, that's…" he couldn't finish his words as Natsuki walked forward. "Nat."
Slamming her hands on the desk, she glared at him, "That computer and desk don't belong to you. Get up." Natsuki demanded.
"As Kiyomi's right-hand, I need to prepare everything for her meeting with you three," Koe told her, not even flinching at her movements. "Sorry if you don't like it, but I'm doing my job as her assistant."
"What?!" Natsuki slammed the desk again. This time, again, the boy ignored it. "I, Natsuki Hibari, am Kiyomi Sawada's right-hand woman! If Kiyomi needed me to do something, she would have asked me herself!"
"He's not wrong though."
The three that were standing looked back to see Kiyomi walking in with a hoodie dress, tights, and some sneakers. Her hair was down and loose, looking a bit wet. Her innocent smile made the all very confused.
"I'm sorry, Nat-chan." Kiyomi started. "However, Koe is my first Guardian, Storm. I decided this a long time ago." She walked over to the desk and peered at what Koe was doing. "This boy is my step-brother, even though he doesn't share the Sawada name. He is like family to me."
"You do not treat me like family tho…" Koe whispered, blushing as the memories from their reunion flashed in his mind. She got really good at kissing… He thought to himself but dared not to say it out loud.
"Koe…?" Natsuki looked at the boy and then at her boss. "Kiyo… I…"
"Nevermind that." Kiyomi smiled. "For now, we will talk about the mission tomorrow night." She looked at all three and smiled. "Reborn is withdrawing from this mission and I am now put in charge of it."
"Wait, but you're the leader!" Rin argued. "If you're in charge, you can't lead the mission!"
"That's why I invited Eiichi." Kiyomi smiled. "Eiichi will act as leader."
Koe smirked at the redhead who blinked in shock. "Of course, I will be in your group for the mission as well. However, I'm just a side character so don't mind me."
Eiichi looked at Koe and then at Kiyomi. "I accept, but…" He looked at Koe once more, "I thought that I was going to be your Storm."
The Vongola tilted her head. "Um, I never said that." She smiled. "I never said that any of you would be my guardians. After all, you all are under the Foundation, not me."
"What?" Natsuki blinked as Koe stood up. "What do you mean…?"
"However, I see potential in all of you three," Koe spoke. "So, as I stated, I am a side character for this mission, but I'm also a judge. To see if you're worthy to be in Kiyomi's Famiglia, I will personally select her guardians and train them as I see fit."
The three looked at Kiyomi. Seeing her step back as Koe took center stage, the three were dumbfounded. Some new guy was going to see if they were worthy?
Natsuki didn't like that thought. "Then I'll judge you! To see if you're worthy of that ring, I'll watch to see if you have the potential to even stand beside her!"
Koe saw Kiyomi's sweet smile flinch and stepped in front of her. "Alright, go for it." He then smirked. "However, my word is above yours so know your place, Brat."
Sorry, been busy so I just posted this! Thank you~!
