Hello! Thanks for all the follows and reviews for this story! It means a lot to me! Here's the next chapter~!
KHR: Children of the Sky
Target 4: Mission Done
Kiyomi was drinking some tea with her brother when Eiichi walked up to them. The two danced to three songs and many people came and left to greet them and talk to them. Kiyomi had a sweet smile the whole time, but Takeo gave them all a scowl every time they looked at him.
"Um… I'm sorry I'm late." Eiichi spoke, unsure of what to say. He couldn't get near them until now.
Kiyomi only giggled. "It's fine. Please don't worry about it." Kiyomi walked over to him and handed him her glass. "I know it got a bit crowded after my brother and I danced."
"Such a formal tongue." Takeo sighed as he finished his drink. "It's almost time. I'm leaving."
"Eh?" Eiichi blinked, confused as to why Takeo was leaving. The leader was thinking of asking Takeo for help if the mission went south, but the second strongest person he knew was leaving. "Already?"
"Yeah, I warned the pest to stay away from my sister. Later, Mimi." Takeo waved and walked away.
"Bye-bye, Nii-chan~! I had fun~!" Kiyomi smiled as she waved bye to her brother and looked at Eiichi. "Let's dance?"
"Um… Yeah…" The boy perked up at the offer and guided her to the dance floor. As they began the waltz, he let out a sigh. "It looks like I don't have enough skills to plan a mission very well. I hope those guys are doing fine."
"I'm sure they'll be fine." Kiyomi giggled. "After all, Koe is with them."
Feeling a bit jealous, Eiichi looked away. "You seem to like your step-brother a lot, Sawada-san. You have so much trust in him."
The Vongola Princess nodded. "That's because he's on par with Hibari-sensei." She pointed out and took a step back when the boy tripped. "Are you okay?" She asked with a worried tone.
"Y-Yeah…" Eiichi smiled, nervously. "He's as strong as Hibari-san?"
"Since we were kids, his flames were so strong that they could easily overpower my father." Kiyomi continued. "When he left those years ago, I made him promise me to be my guardian. Now, after years of training, Koe is so far on par with Hibari-sensei or stronger."
"No way…" Eiichi blinked when the room was now in a dark red light. The windows had shutter locks and the doors were closed. "Eh? What?"
Kiyomi stepped out of Eiichi's arms and her flames engulfed her. Once they died down, she was wearing a white short skirt kimono dress with a white rabbit mask. Her hair in a ponytail and tied with a red rope.
"Looks like that team failed. Good luck, Koe." Kiyomi giggled under the mask.
With a snap of her fingers, flames engulfed her hand and took shape. Once they died out, in their place was a golden rapier in her hands. She used the end of the weapon and pointed at all the walls except the doors and shot her own dying will flames from it. Some men, seeing what she was doing, rushed over to stop her but she dodged them quickly and even knocked out the persistent ones.
"What's going on?" Eiichi asked as he watched his boss in horror. "It's way too early for them to be caught…"
"That's why Koe made a backup plan." The scared boy turned to see Takeo standing behind him. Surrounding him were his own flames that covered the innocent people behind him.
"You came back?" Eiichi blinked. "I thought you left?"
"I left so you wouldn't ask me to help you." Takeo sighed. "This is your test. Right now, I'm under the command of my little sister's guardian. My orders were to make sure everyone got to safety while Kiyomi went wild. Let's go."
"Eh? Kotaru-san's order…?" Eiichi blinked. /Did he know that this would happen? Was my plan too naive? Hibari-chan helped me make this plan… No way… I was going to protect Sawada-san, but now…/ Blushing with embarrassment, he turned when he heard an explosion.
Kiyomi was in the middle of the room with flames dancing around her. Bodies were on the ground but weren't near the girl, some even pushed against the wall. He watched her in awe, finally realizing his mistake.
"She doesn't need to be protected…" Eiichi whispered. "She needs to be stopped…"
"Dammit…" Natsuki muttered as she saw her vision darkening. "I can't die… Kiyo-chan… save me…"
"Don't ask for someone that isn't here!" A familiar voice yelled from behind her.
In a moment, the girl was in the sky and in someone's arms. She was starting to breathe normally, but her lungs were already starting to hurt from the damage. Weakly, she looked to see that her rescuer was Koe.
"What…? How dare…" She couldn't finish her words due to her weak body and throbbing throat. /'Dammit, I can't speak. It hurts. I inhaled too much smoke and now it's hurting me.'/
"This is why I told you to know your place, Brat." Koe sighed and flew to the roof and placed her there. A moment after, Rin rushes to the roof and sees his friend weak. "Hey, Rin. Protect her."
"What? What about the mission?" Rin asked, clearly lost.
"We have to go with plan B. Watch her." Koe sighed as he pushed back his bangs and his hair grew longer.
With the long hair, the boy's clothes change to a black short kimono shirt with some pants. His eyes changed from dark brown to bright red. A long vest covered his back, its colors going from red at the top to purple at the end. Lastly, a black fox mask with red markings appeared over his head.
"No way…" Natsuki stared at this new image and paled. "The Black Fox…" She began to shiver. She heard of the child and hated Rin for explaining who the Black Fox is.
"The monster child that Mukuro-sama trained and is able to destroy a whole family single-handedly?!" Rin blinked. To think someone so strong was with them. However, he didn't seem strong until now, so that clearly meant that the boy was hiding his skills.
"Rin, did you find the basement?" Koe asked as he pulled his mask over his face.
"Ah, no… I found the office though," Rin stated, now nervous.
"You heard him," Koe spoke to the wind. "Find the basement for me."
"Wha-? *cough, cough*" Natsuki blinked and gasped when Rin's shadow moved. A person walked out of the shadow and stood behind the Black Fox. "Wh-Who…? *cough, cough*"
A tall teen stood up straight and looked back at the couple on the floor. His blonde hair was short but still flowed in the air around them. He was wearing a white button-up and black pants. His feet were bare but looked stained with black pants at the bottom. However, his eyes were a big shock. One eye was a dark blue, almost indigo, and the other was red with a romaji 6 in the center. And lastly, the boy looked a bit transparent and dead to the two teens.
The blonde looked at Koe and nodded. "Okay. The basement is connected to the office. I'll do both jobs if you want to distract those men." He sighed as he snuck into the shadows once more.
"Yeah." Koe jumped and flew to the center of the buildings. With a snap of his fingers, the ground changed to lava and all the men began to burn in agony. The smell of burning flesh poured over the area and its surroundings. "Burn, fuckers."
The ghost teen returned and had a group of children with one teen girl. They were all in tattered clothing and covered in dirt. "I returned and did my job, Black Fox. Can I sleep now?" He asked as Koe returned to the rooftop.
"No, we gotta get out of here. Help me get them home, Zach." Koe ordered.
"Aw, man…" The ghost called Zach sighed. "Okay…"
Natsuki stared at the two teens as they took charge. She was stunned. A moment ago, they were in trouble, but now, everything was under control. Like this whole thing was planned. She remembered Koe talking about a plan B. She wanted to ask, but the smoke hurt and she couldn't speak. She had so many questions that won't get any answers. However, it was clear that she failed this mission.
"Reading the report here, you did well," Reborn smirked as he walked down the halls. He had a folder in his hand and was reading its contents. He was walking down the halls of the Foundation and was being followed by a certain teenager. "Looks like you didn't disappoint me this time, Kiyomi."
The blonde girl only giggled. "And why would I?" She smiled. "Besides, I have two trustworthy guardians now." She giggled.
"Yeah." Reborn put the folder away and turned to look at her. "I wonder who else you will choose as your guardians."
"That's no longer up to me." Kiyomi giggled as she walked ahead. Once she was far from Reborn, she turned the hall and entered her office. Passing everyone inside, she walked to her desk and sat on her chair. "Well, let's start this meeting."
Inside the office Rin, Natsuki, Eiichi, and Zach are waiting for their boss to arrive. The three were sitting on the three-seated couch while Zach was sitting in front of the desk, leaning against it as he started to nod off to sleep. Rin was at the edge, looking at Natsuki worried. Natsuki had an oxygen tank and a connected mask to help her breathe. Eiichi had his head in his hands, shaking a bit.
Rin was the first to speak to Kiyomi. "Hey, Sawada… Koe and this Zach… Who are they?" He asked, very concerned. "I mean, I heard rumors of the Black Fox but…"
"To think that he's your step-brother?" Kiyomi asked, smiling. "Yes, but he's been famous even before that." She saw Zach move his head and then closed her eyes. "This man is Zachary, Father's foster child and he's also a student of Mukuro like Koe. His code name is Phantom."
Eiichi stood up, shocked. "N-No way. The one that can easily control his enemies and the dead?" He asked, already terrified.
"I don't control anyone." Zach yawned. "I can predict people's movements because I leave them with no other options. Also, the undead is illusions to scare people." He pouted. "I can't actually bring back dead people."
"Zach's skills are lower than Koe's overall, but his usage of Mist flames is higher than Koe's since his flames are only Mist," Kiyomi explained. "Koe can use Storm and Mist, but as I said, his storm flames are stronger than Mist."
Eiichi blinked. "Is Zach… your Mist Guardian?" At that question, Kiyomi smiled and Zach held up his hand to show his Mist ring half. "I see."
Kiyomi nodded. "Koe and Zach are in charge of finding my other guardians. Like Koe, I asked Zach when we were children."
"I was surprised but I knew it was coming." Zach got to his feet and walked over to the couch. "Koe told me that only one of you passed his test so…" He pulled out a Vongola ring half and showed it to Rin, revealing that it was the Rain ring. "Congrats, Rinto Mochida. You are now the Rain Guardian of Kiyomi Sawada, the third candidate for Vongola Undicecimo."
"Eh…? What…?" Rin looked at the other two and then at Kiyomi. "But we failed the mission…?"
"You were the only one that passed, Rin. Congratulations~!" Kiyomi smiled. "I have high expectations~!" Her gaze turned cold as she looked at the other two, a smile still on her face. "If you can't accept Koe, then I can't accept you. So, know your place."
"Okay, looks like everyone is healthy and good for now." Koe smiled as he looked at the group of lightning users. "Now, we don't have an orphanage in Japan that can handle your abilities, but we do have one in Italy. I mean, we can build one here, but…"
The group was in the medical wing of the base and Koe was taking care of the children with other Foundation workers. After the children were cleaned and given new clothes to wear, they had to do a flame scan to see how powerful their flames are.
"A-Are you going to make us work?" The oldest girl asked, glaring at Koe.
Koe stared at her and smiled. "No, those guys made you make that fabric for armor and abused you all. Because of that, the young kids have even more powerful flames due to the work. Making fabric out of flames takes a lot out of people so the fact that you all can make over a hundred kilograms of fabric and still be standing, that's almost inhumane. So if you guys can't find an outlet to help you control your flames, you'll get sick and die."
"No! I don't wanna die!" The youngest child ran into the oldest girl's arms. "Lina! Don't let me die!" He cried, burying his face on her shoulder.
The girl, Lina, paled. "Can we not be healed? Please, most of us have families back home! They took away our certifications so we can't leave Japan." She held the crying boy and looked at Koe with worry, while the other children hid behind her.
"Well… That's… a problem…" Koe stared at them all and sighed, scratching his head. After all, he burnt that place to the ground. Those files might be gone so looking them up with medical records might be a good idea. He stared at the paperwork. "I'll have to talk with Father. Maybe we can look up your certificates?" He sighed but blinked when a familiar flame entered the room. Turning around he saw a familiar face. "Takashi-san!"
"Yo! How's it going so far?" The Tenth Rain Guardian asked as he entered the room. "Oh? Are these the children you recused? Good job!" He walked over and messed with Koe's hair.
"Takashi-san!" Koe groaned but let the man do what he wished. "What are you doing here?"
The Rain looked at the worried children. "I became a foster parent."
"Eh?" Koe blinked.
"Eh?" Lina blinked.
"Eh?" The crying child blinked as Takashi walked over and patted his head. "You're going to be my Papa?"
"Ah! It's been a long time since I heard that~!" Takashi laughed and then nodded. "Yeah, so let us help you. What's your name?" He asked the small child.
"A-Arthur Pendelton," The child sniffed as he held onto the girl, "and I'm five years old."
"And you?" Takashi asked the oldest.
Merlina stared at the Rain and blushed. "I'm Merlina… Merlina Jones. I'm eleven years old."
"I'm Takashi Yamamoto." The man smiled. "I'm 40 years old. Will you come live with me until we can heal you up and get you back with your families?"
Koe watched the scene and smiled. "I might have found Kiyomi's Lighting Guardian." He whispered, smiling at the family scene. He then paled as other children began to say their names as well. "Wait, those are all English names… were they transported to Japan? These kids are illegally here…. Ah, fuck."
And that's the first official chapter! Thanks for reading everyone! Please stay tuned for the next chapter~!
