Hello! Thanks for all the follows and reviews for this story! It means a lot to me! Here's the next chapter~!
KHR: Children of the Sky
Target 6: A Missing Father
"I'm off to school~!" Kiyomi smiled as she waved to her parents as he skipped out the door. "Takeo-nii, see you later~!"
"Yeah!" The older brother finished his orange juice and got up from the table. "Alright. I'm off to college. Dad, I'll see you after and Mom," He walked over to give her a kiss on her head. "I'll help you and grandma with the groceries, so wait for me." He saw his grandma and gave her a big hug before rushing off.
"And again, the father figures don't get the love like the mother figures." Iemitsu sighed. "Well, no problem."
"I'm glad that Taki-chi comes here every morning for breakfast~!" Nana smiled. "Living alone in an apartment must be lonely." A timer went off and she blinked. "Oh! My laundry!" She rushed off into another room and left the two men with Haru.
"I'm sure Takeo loves coming here and helping out now that he's in school again." Haru smiled. "I still feel nervous when he treats me so nicely." She remembered the oldest and sighed. "It's not easy being a stepmom."
"You've done so much. I'm sure everyone already sees you as their mother." Tsuna hugged Haru and gave her a kiss on her head. "Well, I know Kiyomi does."
"She's a sweet girl." Haru smiled.
"However, it seems like she's starting to move." Iemitsu sighed. "Her guardians are Kotaru, Zachary, and Rin so far."
"What about Eiichi and Natsuki?" Tsuna asked, worried.
"Apparently, they failed a test that Koe gave them." Iemistu sighed. "Kiyomi is letting Koe choose her guardians."
"Yet she wouldn't let me." Tsuna sighed.
Haru stared at her husband and then puffed out her chest, getting ready to scold him. "I feel like you don't want her to be independent, Tsuna-san!"
"Eh?" Tsuna blinked. "No! I didn't mean it like that!"
"Then what?!" Haru pouted as Tsuna's father got up to run away from Haru's fury.
Tsuna, letting out a sigh, looked at Haru. "It's just that… Out of the three, Kiyomi's flames are the weakest." When she heard this, Haru sat back down. "She also had a weak body growing up. She basically grew up in a hospital before you came."
"When I arrived, she was acting like Kyoko." Haru looked at the ground.
"Yeah. Since she looked exactly like Kyoko, everyone always avoided her or even pitied her." Tsuna sighed. "Because of that, she grew up not trusting nor believing in others."
"I heard from Reborn-kun," Haru looked at her husband, "when Kiyomi asked about her mother, everyone spoke about her as if she was an angel and always looked happy while talking about her."
"That's right. Kiyomi thought if she could replace Kyoko, everyone would love her." Tsuna sighed. "I couldn't look at her. Every time I look at her, I remember everything about Kyoko. How much I loved her. How much I wanted to protect her, How horrible I feel for letting her go."
Haru felt pain in her chest at his words. She didn't marry Tsuna out of love but for Kiyomi's sake. Once Haru and Koe started to stay by her side, Kiyomi started to act like a normal child. However, her first love feelings kept stringing her at times like these.
"Haru…" Tsuna snapped the girl out of her thoughts by calling her name. "You raised Kiyomi after I failed." He looked at her and smiled, the same smile from his past. "Thank you."
Haru held herself back. His smile, his voice, and his love… They don't belong to her. He doesn't belong to her. She smiled back at him. "Of course. I hope Kiyomi becomes someone great."
"Don't push your luck, Haru." She thought to herself as Tsuna leaned in and kissed her. "This spot is Kyoko's, not yours. Don't forget that he only had eyes for her. Don't forget. You're not a wife, just a mother."
"They say that Papa is gonna marry Haru-san."
A young girl's voice woke Koe from his thoughts. He looked up to see a small Kiyomi who was holding a book in her hands. He saw he also had a book but it was an Italian-to-Japanese dictionary. He also noticed that his hands were small, so he figured that he was a child. Looking around, he saw the two children in a library. Understandable since they had books in their hands.
"Koe?" The girl called out again. "What's wrong?"
"Ah, no." Koe was shocked when she called him again. "Sorry, I wasn't listening." He saw the girl in her pj's and smiled. "I don't mind being your brother."
"But they say that you can't marry your siblings." Kiyomi pouted and covered her mouth with a small cough. "I wanted to marry Koe in the future. If we become brother and sister, then I can't marry Koe."
The small boy looked at her book and saw the picture of a knight making a promise to the princess. "Then, let's make a promise before Mama and Decimo get married. I'll pledge my future to you like they do at weddings!"
"But the doctor said that I might not live past my teenage years…" Kiyomi pouted. "What if I die before we can make our promise?"
Koe got up and walked in front of Kiyomi, extending a hand to her. Once she held his hand, he pulled her to her feet. Once she was stable, he got down on one knee while holding her hand. He pressed his forehead on the back of her hand and used his other hand to cover his chest over his heart.
"I, Kotaru Miura, pledge to offer my life, heart, and future to you. My princess, my light, Kiyomi Sawada, will you accept my oath?" Koe looked up and smiled at the girl.
"Yes!" Kiyomi smiled.
Then a strong gust of wind blew into the room and Koe was now alone in a dark prison-like room. "Huh? Kiyomi? Kiyomi! Where are you?" only hearing his echo as a response, he began to worry. "What's going on?"
"So my son likes a girl named Kiyomi?" A male voice made Koe turn around to see Tsunayoshi in a suit, looking down at him. Koe got scared at first, but the loving smile made him feel a bit safe.
"Decimo?" Koe called out. "Hey, have you seen Kiyomi? I can't find her anywhere."
"Kiyomi, huh? She's Decimo's daughter?" Tsuna smiled as he looked at the ceiling. "Oh yeah, Haru married Decimo. I see. As kids, you thought making a promise before your parents married would allow you two to marry each other. How cute."
"Decimo-sama?" Koe called out again, making the man look down on the child. Now Koe got the chill. "No… Who are you?"
"Who am I?" The voice changed as well as the man's appearance. Mist flames covered Tsuna and died down to reveal a taller semi-muscular man with long black hair and long bangs that cover his eyes. He wore a dark blue Kimono and had fox ears and six fox tails. "I'm your Papa."
"P-Papa?" The young boy changed to his teenage self and gasped as the wind swirled around them both. "What…? What do you want?!"
"I want…" The man smirked as the teenager struggled to keep his balance. "Oh yeah… I want…" He disappeared and reappeared in front of Koe, showing his face and glowing red eyes. "My wife and son."
"Huh?"
Feeling the sunshine on his face, Koe groaned as he rolled to one side. It had been a month since he arrived in Japan. He reunited with Kiyomi and had to deal with some missions afterward. Tomorrow was another mission where he got to test Merlina's skills. Rolling to look out his window, he stared at the blue sky.
"So bright… What was that dream?" Koe sighed as he got up. Keeping his sweats and t-shirt on, he slipped on a pair of slippers and walked downstairs. There, he saw his grandfather making breakfast. "Morning, Grandpa." He yawned as he walked over to the fridge to get some milk.
"Ah! Koe!" Haruyoshi smiled at his grandson. "It's lunchtime now. How do you feel?" He asked, watching the boy pour himself a glass of milk.
"Sleepy." He sighed. "Oh yeah. Mom told me that you're signing me into a high school after work today."
"It's almost a month since you got back and you haven't gone to school yet." Haruyoshi sighed. "You haven't gone to school in years so we had to delay your enrollment."
"So you homeschooling me for this past month was to see if I could keep up with the lessons at school?" Koe asked, but he knew the answer. Even though he was traveling with Mukuro, the young fox boy was still reading and taking his online classes. He even learned French and English during his travels, giving him four languages that he knows perfectly.
"I heard you had online classes, but I didn't think you would take them seriously," Haruyoshi admitted, getting an annoyed look from his grandson.
"Hehe!" Koe mockingly laughed, angering his grandfather. "Okay, okay. I'll behave. But in all honesty, I loved learning new things as a kid." He spoke in English. "Non so perché sei così stressato, nonno. Je suis ton petit-fils, bien sûr que je suis génial!"
(Translation: Italian - I dunno why you're so stressed, Grandpa. French - I'm your grandchild. Of course, I'm smart as hell.)
"When did you learn French and English?" The man gasped as he heard Koe speak English, Italian and French perfectly, in a casual language.
"Grandpa," Koe called. "You have trust issues."
"And you have a smart mouth!" Haruyoshi yelled as he placed a plate of breakfast in front of his grandson. "I swear. Haru was never like this. I wonder who you got this personality from. Even Tsunayoshi wasn't like this as a kid."
"Well, Decimo isn't my father so, of course, I didn't get it from him." Koe pointed out as he took a bite of food. He found it weird to be compared to his stepfather.
"What are you saying? Of course, Tsunayoshi is your father." Those words made Koe freeze. "Haru only had eyes for Tsunayoshi since she was in middle school."
"What?" Koe blinked and stared at his grandfather. "What are you talking about? Tsunayoshi can't be my dad. My father is someone else."
"How rude." Haruyoshi sighed. "You and your siblings are all Haru's and Tsunayoshi's children. I still remember her wedding. Well, I wished that she married Tsunayoshi before she had four children with him, but they ended up getting married and my daughter is happy. That's all I could have asked for as a single father."
"No…" Koe stood up and knocked over the milk onto the floor, shattering the glass. "Grandpa, what are you-!"
"Koe! What are you doing?!" Haruyoshi sighed as he walked over to get a broom. "Making a mess like this. I swear, this is what you inherited from your father."
"Grandpa!" Koe got down and held the older man's shoulders. "Hey! Remember! Tsunayoshi married Kyoko! Sasagawa Kyoko! They had three children! I got all of Takumi and Takeo's hand-me-downs! Mom got pregnant with another man! Decimo is not my father!"
Haruyoshi sighed and looked at his grandson. His face filled with mournfulness. "Stop talking nonsense. I know you haven't been getting along with her father, but he only loved and cared for Haru since they were teenagers. I don't know about this Kyoko person, but she's not real. Now help me clean this up."
"No way…" Koe stared at the man and felt sick. "Grandpa… Your memories… were rewritten?"
"Koe!" Kiyomi rushed down the halls of the base and shouted the name when she saw her guardian. He was there with Takeo, Kyoya, and Natsuki, looking pale. Ignoring the Hibari's and her brother, Kiyomi rushed into Koe's arms. "Is everything okay?"
Koe let out a sigh. "No, his memories were rewritten. They're testing him now to see what he knows. So far, he doesn't know Kyoko exists."
"What?" Kiyomi blinked. "That's…"
"This is bad." Takeo let out a sigh. "I got in touch with dad and he's on the way with Mom." He looked at Kyoya, who nodded his head and walked away. "Takumi isn't answering either. Dammit. This is a big emergency and he's ignoring my calls."
Natsuki, who was with her father when Koe came rushing over with his grandfather, only followed due to curiosity. However, she didn't know what was going on. "Wait, how is this emergency? I'm sure Mukuro-san or even Chrome-san can help Mister Miura."
"Idiot." Kiyomi glared at Natsuki. "Did you even read about the Vongola's biggest threats? There is only one person in the world that can mess with memories!" And the fact that there's proof of him being here means…"
When Kiyomi trailed off as Koe put his hand on his shoulder. "Stop. It's not her fault." He told her, but his hand was trembling.
"But she made such a rude comment that I-!" Kiyomi stopped speaking when they heard footsteps.
"Koe!" Tsuna yelled as he rushed down the halls with Haru behind him, both looking worried. "How is he?" He asked when he reached the children.
Seeing Koe looking down, Haru stepped up, breathless. "Koe… Tell me… How bad is it?" She asked, sounding like she was about to cry.
Koe looked at the ground. "Grandpa… He doesn't remember Kyoko-san. He thinks that the twins, Kiyomi, and I are the children of Tsunayoshi and Haru. He forgot my real dad. But that's not all." He looked at his mother. "I saw him last night. In my dream. Night Fox visited my dream."
Haru gasped as Tsuna's face turned dark. "No…" She rushed inside the room, leaving them all outside. "Dad!" They heard her yell as the door closed behind her.
"He's trying to erase his existence here?" Tsuna asked no one since no one knew the answer. "That man…!"
"What good is it to erase his and Mother's existence from them?" Takeo shook his head. "It doesn't make sense."
Natsuki, who was in the dark, looked at her best friend. "Kiyomi…" She called out and was happy when the girl turned to her. "What is the problem…?"
Kiyomi felt the rage in her die and let out a sigh. "Night Fox. This man is a dangerous individual that can manipulate people's thoughts, memories, and realities. In one night, he made everyone in a city, not a town, a city think that death was salvation and a whole city burned down in ashes before the sun came up. The Vongola came across a lot of problems with him in the past, but he disappeared years ago."
"He has crazy strong Mist flames." Takeo sighed. "Not to mention that he can easily steal other people's flames to use for himself. A boss from an allied family of the Vongola had all of his powerful Sky flames ripped from his body."
"Not to mention, Night Fox has the strange power to go into people's dreams." Kiyomi looked at Koe who seemed pale. "He can enter dreams and collect anything from them. Your deepest fears, your happiness, or even private information. When you see a black fox in your dreams, it's him collecting data and your end is coming."
"Such a dangerous man is back…?" Natsuki shivered. "Wait… Why did he target Mr. Miura?"
"Because he's the grandfather of his only son." Koe sighed.
"Only son…?" Natsuki blinked. "But that means…"
"Yes," Tsuna sighed. "Kotaru Miura is the son of the Night Fox."
"No way…" The Cloud girl blinked. "A criminal's son is… Kiyomi's right hand…?"
And now I gotta take a break from this story for a while. I need to write more chapters. Look forward to updates In April!
