Raindrops hitting the window was the only thing that could be heard inside this bedroom. No cars or the sounds of the city, not even the laughter of bypassers either. She had no idea where she was but it was peaceful here. Silence was a rarity in her life. Being in universaity, silent was not in the vocabulary for most of the student body. If there wasn't a party going on, there were people pulling pranks and causing an uproar. Or someone pulled a fire alarm. Or there was some protest of something she didn't hear about until an hour after the protesters gathered. All of that was seemingly gone...maybe now she can get peace and quiet. Memories however were clawing their way out of her mind. The memories of an attack...something had attacked her while she was driving...This was enough to force her tired eyes open. Looking at a room she did not reconize. The bed was soft and comfortable, unlike the beds they had in her dorm. But this only begged the question of where was she?
Just as she was about to sit up, the door slowly opened. This made her heart sink. What kind of horror was awaiting her? Was she kidnapped and chained to the bed post and not even know it yet? Tension filled her chest as she watched the door reveal the figure entering the room. Eventually the stranger was in full view, it was a girl in her very early 20's from the looks of it. Medium length brown hair and wearing a black hoodie. The hoodie just being long enough to cover her entire body. She didn't look up right away as she was playing on a portable retro game console in one hand and eating some kind of chocolate treat in the other. It wasn't until she took two steps towards the chair set right next to the bed that her inhuman red eyes looked up to her.
"Oh...you're awake...?" The stranger said in a very casual manner, "Ok hold on." She turned on her heel yet again and called out to someone outside the room. Afterward the brown haired girl turned off her game and set it off to the side before sitting herself on the chair. "She'll be in here in a sec to check in on you."
There was an awkward air of silence between the two of them. The once peaceful silence now felt like painful torture. There wasn't even much noise outside the room, making the quiet even more awkward. "I'm Mary." Mary introduced herself.
"Yuul B. Alwright." Yuul finally spoke, her voice feeling a little hoarse.
"...What? I know I'll be alright. You should be more worried about yourself."
"No..." Instead of explaining or going through this routine again, Yuul just pulled out her student ID. Her named printed 'Yuul B. Alwright' clear as day.
"Oh! Yuul B. Alwright! Oooooh! What a weird name. Your parents must have a great sense of humor though." Mary chuckled then took another chomp from her snack.
The door opened once again, this time a slightly older woman entered the room. This one had long black hair that flowed down her back. Wearing a brown leather coat that was completely drunched. Her eyes weren't as striking as Mary's with her normal green hue. She seemed different from Mary in every way, being much taller than her. "How are you feeling? Had a nasty accident on the way over here didn't you?"
"Uh..." Yuul can only remember bits and pieces of what had happened. She remember something charging toward her while driving but not much else. "What exactly happened?"
"Well I was hoping you could fill in the blanks. We got a call to help you right where you crashed. Whoever warned us knew to call about 10 minutes before it happened too. I couldn't gather much from the crash site but I can tell you didn't hit an animal...but I'm guessing you knew that."
"No...it was some creature..."
"Vampire most likely. From what I understand, you've had quite the history with them right?"
"You could say that..." Yuul couldn't lie, this woman has certainly done her homework. "So um...are you just going to take care of me until I get better?"
"Yes, the person hired us to help you. They couldn't offer much in terms of money but they said you could help solve this case. The case that seems to revolve around you." The woman pointed at Yuul's chest, "Seems someone wants you dead and someone else wants you alive. That is a mystery waiting to be solved."
"Uh, what do you guys do anyway?"
"We're an occult detective agency. I just call it Occult Agency though."
"Oh...no...I can't get involved in anything occult related. A worm god will kill me if I did."
Mary looked confused, finishing her snack cake. "Worm god...? The fuck?"
"Like it or not someone dragged you back into the occult world. Be it your friend or enemy someone made you break your promise. For all you know this god could be the one that's behind this attack of your's."
Yuul didn't really know what to say. She only sank back into the bed, looking up at the ceiling. Uncertain if she really wants to step back into this life or not. It didn't seem like she had much of a choice. "So...what are we going to do? Am I just going to help you solve my case?"
"Well yes, you are. You might even help us with a few other ones. Normally I wouldn't involve you but it's probably better you stay close to one of us at all times until we get to the bottom of this. This person or group of people might try gunning for you again."
"Well...if it means I don't become vampire lunchmeat..." Yuul sank further back into the bed and let out a sigh.
"Don't worry. We know quite a few people to help out. You're in good hands." The dark haired woman smiled and placed a hand on top of Yuul's blanket before pulling it up to her chin. "For now though, get some rest. We can talk about what's next when you're feeling better." Giving Yuul's shoulder a pat before turning and heading out of the room. "Oh, my name is Shana by the way. It's nice to meet you Yuul."
Shana left the room, carefully shutting the door behind her. Leaving Yuul with Mary. Without so much as a word, Yuul sunk into the bed. Closing her eyes hoping she will get some more sleep. Maybe a few more minutes.
"So...vampires out to get you huh? What did you do to get them rattled up? Or do you have special blood?" Mary seemed more interested in starting a conversation instead.
"Beat them at a card game...and hunted them..." Yuul's mind wandered back to her time as a Hunter, never did she imagine her life would take such a turn. It all started when she decided to go to a frat party too. It was almost comedic that an introverts world was turned on it's head by trying to socialize.
"Did you cheat them out of all their money? Can't imagine those stiffs try to kill you over poker."
"It wasn't poker. And I was playing for my life. My friends were too."
"Do you think those blood suckers are after them too? Or do they just have it out for you?"
Yuul's eyes opened again, that was something she didn't even consider. Each of them made enemies of some sort back then. None of this should've happened anyway. All of them made a promise not to get involved with the supernatural. Would their promise still hold when something supernatural involves them out of the blue. "I don't know...it's been a long time since I've spoken to anyone..."
Mary leaned back in the chair, slipping her hands into her hoodie pockets, "Well maybe give them a call once you're up?"
"I will...in 5 minutes." Yuul pulled the covers up past her shoulder and turned to her side, facing away from Mary.
"...You've slept all night last night..."
"Good night."
"But it's daytime!"
