I Don't Own DC!

Interlude (1)

Hourman stared at the night sky in silence.

"He didn't come over huh?" Flash said finally.

"I don't blame him," Hourman grunted then turned around and looked at the area. It was a mess here. These guys had smashed apart center Gotham that it'll need some major renovation; maybe the government could actually do the people a favor and use this opportunity to replace those horrible buildings Gotham is known for for something modern.

Make Gotham look less like an abandoned asylum you know? Though he doubted they'd do that.

"Well at least he still seems to be on the good side," Green Lantern said.

"Yeah, I can't believe this is the guy you guys thought was a Nazi, I mean he's the last person I'll suspect..."

"That's why Hawkman suspected him,"

At Green Lantern's words Hourman fell in thought. What Green Lantern said wasn't completely true; the reason Hawkman had been hostile to Greek was for an entirely different reason. Hawkgirl being missing made the JSA leader go completely crazy and paranoid.

It was unfortunate that a colleague was suffering, but Hourman decided to use this opportunity to his advantage long ago. He needed to show everyone that Hawkman is not fit to lead the JSA, that way he could grab power for himself. Since he made that decision, it has been a straight ride to hell, where Hourman lied and manipulated from behind the scene.

It was not like Hourman loves power, but he felt the current JSA is too indecisive and inefficient. What started as a powerful force that protects America has become a place of flaunting riches and clashing egos in only two years since its creation. The JSA needs to be restructured, and to do that some of its biggest names most go. If that means he betrays a few friends to accomplish that, he considers it a fair deal.

Even now Hourman's scheme was going smoothly. Most in the JSA and even the greater mystery men society has started to doubt if Hawkman is the way forward. Naturally they have started looking to Wonder Woman to replace him.

However Hourman wasn't worried about her. To him that woman is easily dealt with, she's just an immigrant in the end of the day, while he has connections in the white house. If she oversteps...

Anyway his biggest threat is Green Lantern.

Hourman glanced at Alan, wondering how to deal with him, before sighing and turning around to head to one of the vans that was loaded with the captured villains.

As he walked his mind went back to a certain person..

He hoped Greek wasn't too petty, as when he eventually cleans up the JSA he'd need people like him.

The man was sending punches and kicks in quick successions, blurring before Diana's eyes.

Diana flew to the side then zoomed forward and threw a punch at his gut. The Sportsmaster went flying and crashed against the wall of the alley. He forced himself to his feet then regarded the woman with a grimace behind his dark featureless mask.

"Mercy Wonder Woman, must you make life difficult for a petty criminal like me?"

"Cut the crap," Diana said. "You better talk quickly or life is about to get more difficult. Are you one of the people that came from the future?"

A few weeks ago this man had suddenly appeared in streets of New York and since then he had been making waves in the local gang community. The strange thing was no one knew him before that, along with other reasons that made CIA to suspect his origin.

The Sportsmaster glanced at the lasso hanging on the woman's belt then chuckled. His hand slyly reached for his pocket where he retrieved a baseball and threw at her.

Diana sighed helplessly then pull out her shield and knocked the ball away. It went flying to the side before exploding, leaving her unharmed. However when she looked again the criminal has started fleeing.

Wonder Woman suppressed another sigh, though she briefly lamented her life. She placed back the shield on her back then took out the lasso. The Amazonian gave it a brief twirl before throwing it. The lasso sailed in the air and swiftly caught the Sportsmaster around the neck.

Diana dragged him before her then looked down at him with an unamused look. "Now tell me who supplied you with these weapons to begin with,"

2 AM in the morning Diana finally flew back to her residence. It was a villa up in beacon hill...

She flew down and alighted in the middle of the courtyard, beside a fountain, then walked to the mansion.

Diana found Julia, her housemate, sitting on the sofa reading a book when she walked into the house. The white haired older woman looked up and gave her an unimpressed smile. "You didn't buy the milk did you?"

Diana blinked. "Oh Hera, I forgot!" She groaned. "I'll go get it,"

Julia shook her head. "Don't, you have a visitor,"

The older woman's words made her pause. "A visitor? Who?"

Julia just shrugged and pointed at the kitchen. Diana lifted an eyebrow then walked towards the kitchen in curiosity.

She found a blond man in an apron busy cooking. "Steve?" Diana blurted involuntarily.

Steven turned and flashed her a bright smile. "Welcome back Diana!"

Diana kept her shield by the door then walked further into the kitchen. "How are you here? I thought you'd be gone till the war ends,"

"Well, the president gave me a Christmas break,"

"Really?" Wonder Woman lifted an eyebrow and smirked. "You are not here for work? Out with it Steve, we are ways past Germany. I am not easily fooled anymore,"

The smile froze on Captain Clever's face. "I wasn't trying to deceive you. I just wanted us to catch up before we talk more boring subject,"

"Boring subject like work? Is this another mission? If not this is Christmas and I was planning to take a day off,"

"Actually, its not a mission. And we are soldiers Diana, we don't have convenient day offs,"

Diana rolled her eyes at how fast he contradicted his earlier words, a good lair that he is. She pulled a stool and sat. Her face turned serious. "What's it?"

Seeing her like this, all business, Steve felt at loss. Even the way she calls my name has changed, he thought. Finally he sighed and went back to business. "It's about the new guy,"

"Greek?"

It was just a single word but Steve sensed her defensiveness. It irritated him for some reason, but he controlled his emotions so she wouldn't notice. "Yes him," he said deliberately emotionless. "Your All Star Squadron is shaping up well, the President wants this guy in it,"

"...Why?"

"Because he's strong?" Captain Clever shrugged. "I heard he's as strong as they get. It goes without saying that we want him close at hand,"

Diana lifted an eyebrow at that. "We?"

Captain Clever shrugged again. "Me, the president, the government? I mean the people I represent, the good guys," he couldn't help the bitterness that crept into his words. Just as fast Steve took a deep breath, regretting it, then turned around to check on the food on the stove.

Diana watched him stir the pot with a frown, calculating all the implications of his words. In the end she realized nothing was that troubling. But there was a problem. "He's disappeared," she said.

"We know... That's why I am here,"

Diana sighed. "You want me to find Greek and recruit him officially. What do you know about him anyway?"

"Me? Nothing. I am not privy to a lot of important information. For a spy, that's rather ironic right? Anyway I suspect even the higher ups have nothing on this guy. You might be the person that knows him the most..."

Diana sighed yet again. Since the battle at Gotham a few days ago, Greek has been reportedly missing. Both the JSA and the US secret services couldn't find him. Now she'd have to find him and convince him to work for people he probably don't trust anymore.

Ah, being Wonder Woman isn't easy. "I'll find him, but after Christmas," she said finally, her weariness creeping into her voice.

"But.."

"No buts Steve, keep cooking, I'll go get something,"

She left the house to go get that milk. The alternative is to endure Julia's nagging for generations to come.

Vandal Savage walked across the dark room towards the holographic screen in the middle of the room. The technology to make this hologram was more than a century ahead of this time period, but Per Degaton had giving it to him, along with other advance tech, easily as if gifting throwaways.

Savage wasn't sure if that was a good thing or bad thing. On one hand he got his hands on useful tech, while on the other it means the time traveler didn't take him as a serious enough threat to hide his tech from him. Does that mean his conquest fails in this era?

Further does that mean his conquest fails hundred years from now?

Fails forever? In the life of an immortal these thoughts often plagues him. If only I could know the future, he thought; not hear it from second hand knowledge from lairs and backstabbers. If I can see the future with his own two eyes...

That was just wishful thinking, for now that had eluded him. Per Degaton, Rip hunter and Greek are all time travelers. But they wouldn't share, they all look at me with that sneering contempt. Vandal Savage realized with a suddenness that he hates time travelers.

He hates their disdain towards him, their knowing smirk, their trickery and advance knowledge. He hates seeing their ugly faces.

Yet the person he's going to speak with this time is also a time traveler. But the difference is this guy might share.

Vandal Savage stopped before the hologram screen. Staring at him is the floating three dimensional image of a man dressed similar to the Flash, with the lightning sign in his costume and all. "Hello Vandal Savage," the man said.

"Hello, Eobard Thawne,"

"You have something I want,"

"You have what I want too,"

"Good, give me the amulet and I'll give you the time machine. How does an exchange sound?"

Savage could smell treachery even behind the veil of technology. But he still grinned fearlessly. "Sounds good,"

The man can scheme, he sneered. I scheme too. In the end I'll have it all in my hand and the time traveler would be a cold corpse.

I hate time travelers after all.
