Chapter 9: Echoes of the Past
The morning after their success in the village, Team Natsu reconvened at the guild hall. Though the immediate danger had passed, the looming threat of the dark magic weighed on them. The remnants of their battle—the eerie shadows, the twisted forms, and the strange crystal—remained fresh in their minds.
Lucy sat quietly at one of the tables, writing in her journal, documenting everything they'd discovered so far. Her brow furrowed as she scribbled down her thoughts. Dark magic was spreading, and they had only scratched the surface.
Erza approached, her armor clinking lightly as she sat down across from Lucy. "Still thinking about what happened last night?"
Lucy nodded, closing her journal. "It's hard not to. The shadows, the crystal… it's all connected to something bigger, and I feel like we're missing a piece of the puzzle."
Erza leaned forward, her gaze steady. "We'll figure it out. We always do."
Before Lucy could respond, the guild doors burst open. Levy ran in, holding a stack of old scrolls and ancient texts. Her face was flushed, and her eyes were wide with urgency.
"I think I found something!" Levy exclaimed, rushing toward Lucy and Erza. "I've been going through old records, and I found a reference to something that matches the crystal you described."
Gray, Natsu, and the others gathered around the table as Levy spread out the scrolls. The parchment was old and fragile, covered in faded writing and strange symbols.
"It's called the 'Void Crystal,'" Levy explained, pointing to an illustration. "It's an ancient magical artifact used to amplify dark magic. According to these records, it's one of several crystals scattered across Fiore, hidden away centuries ago by an unknown dark guild."
"Void Crystal?" Natsu repeated, his fists clenching. "How many of these things are out there?"
Levy bit her lip. "It's unclear, but there could be as many as five. Each one is connected to a larger source of dark magic. If someone is gathering them, they could be planning something catastrophic."
Gray crossed his arms, his expression grim. "So, whoever is behind this is trying to gather these crystals and use them to spread dark magic. We've already destroyed one, but there are more out there."
Wendy, who had been listening quietly, asked, "Do the scrolls say anything about how to track them?"
Levy nodded. "There's a spell, but it requires a powerful magic user—someone who can sense the unique energy of the Void Crystals. I think we could modify it to work, but it'll take some time."
Erza stood, her resolve clear. "Then we don't have time to waste. Levy, work on the spell. We'll prepare for whatever comes next."
As the guild members began to strategize, Lucy couldn't shake the feeling that there was something familiar about the crystals and the dark magic they were encountering. She excused herself from the group and wandered outside to get some air, her thoughts swirling.
She leaned against the railing of the balcony, staring out at the bustling streets of Magnolia. A soft breeze ruffled her hair as she reflected on everything they had faced. Why did it feel like these dark forces were linked to something she should know?
Just then, a voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Lucy."
She turned to see Loke standing beside her, his usually carefree demeanor replaced by an air of seriousness. He crossed his arms, leaning casually against the railing next to her.
"You're thinking about the Void Crystals, aren't you?" Loke asked.
Lucy nodded. "It's strange. I can't shake the feeling that there's something about them I should remember. Like there's a connection I'm missing."
Loke's eyes narrowed. "The Void Crystals are dangerous, Lucy. Even we Celestial Spirits know of their existence. They're ancient, older than most forms of magic in this world."
Lucy looked at him, surprised. "You've heard of them before?"
Loke sighed, glancing up at the sky. "Yes, but only in whispers. They were used long ago in a war between powerful mages and dark forces. The magic they contain is primal, uncontrollable. The spirits aren't directly affected by them, but we've seen their effects on the human world."
Lucy's heart skipped a beat. "Do you think there's a way to stop whoever is behind this?"
Loke looked at her, his expression softening. "With your strength and the strength of your friends, I believe you can stop this. But you need to be careful, Lucy. Whoever is behind this is using ancient magic—magic that could be beyond even the strongest of wizards."
Lucy nodded, her determination returning. "We'll figure it out. We have to."
As she returned to the guild, her mind was focused. If there were more Void Crystals out there, they needed to find them—and fast. Time was running out, and the dark magic was spreading.
Levy and Freed were working on the spell, with various scrolls spread out across a large table. The guild members worked together with a sense of urgency, preparing for their next mission.
"We've modified the spell," Levy announced after hours of intense study. "With Wendy's help, we can track the energy of the Void Crystals."
Makarov nodded approvingly. "Good work, Levy. Now, we just need to locate the nearest crystal."
Wendy stepped forward, her hands glowing with magical energy. "I'll start the spell now."
The air in the guild grew thick with magic as Wendy concentrated, drawing on her power to activate the tracking spell. A glowing map of Fiore appeared in the center of the room, with several points of dark energy marked across it.
"There," Wendy said, pointing to one of the spots on the map. "There's another Void Crystal near a town on the outskirts of Fiore."
Erza, Gray, Natsu, and Lucy exchanged determined looks.
"Then that's where we're headed," Natsu said, his eyes burning with resolve.
Lucy nodded, her heart pounding. This was it—the next step in their journey to stop the dark magic from spreading. With her friends by her side, she felt ready to face whatever came next.
As Team Natsu prepared to set out, the echoes of ancient magic and dark forces lingered in the air. The past was catching up to them, and with each step forward, they were drawn deeper into a web of mystery and danger.
The hunt for the Void Crystals had begun in earnest, and there was no turning back now.
