Chapter 8: A Day at Rocky's Scrap YardRocky wakes up to Ryder calling over his pup tag.
"PAW Patrol, to the lookout," Ryder said.
"Ryder needs us," responded the pups.
Rocky heads up to the lookout. When he got their Ryder said that it was going to be a nice, warm, sunny day.
"Anything fun you pups plan to do today," Ryder said.
"I told captain Turbot that I would help him lift some heavy crates with my helicopter." Skye yipped with a happy mood.
"I want to go and play at the beach," Zuma said with an exited tone.
"Alright, that all sounds fun, well have a good day pups, PAW Patrol is on a roll," Ryder said.
"I'm going to get some work done at my scrap yard today," Rocky said to Rubble as they walked down the stairs.
"Oh, that reminds me, I've got a pile of copper pipes and wire at a demolition site on main street if you want it," Rubble said
"Sure, I'll stop by after breakfast on my way to the scrap yard," Rocky said.
Rubble had already had breakfast as usual. But Rocky was hungry. So he walked over to the pup treat dispenser and filled up his bowl. After all, you can't work on an empty stomach. After breakfast Rocky hops in his recycling truck and heads of to pick up his copper.
"Don't lose it, reuse it," Rocky said as he put the copper in his truck.
Rocky's junkyard was mostly just a whole city block full of, well junk. Yeah, that's Rocky for you, Rocky the recycling pup, nothing goes to waist on his watch. There was a big pile of unsorted scrap metal right in the center of the yard. Around the big pile there were smaller piles of sorted scrap. Then there was the cool car crusher, surrounded by cars, crushed and uncrushed. Before he crushes the cars he takes all the parts, working and broken parts alike, off. He uses the working parts to repair cars that come into his auto repair shop. Then there was a shed like building that acted like his scrap storage and auto repair shop building. And then there was the great big machine shed where Rocky keeps he's scraping machines.
"Ruff, garage door open," Rocky barked. Rocky puts on his pup pack and hops in his scrap claw and dumps a few scoop full's of metal onto an open spot on the ground. Then he hops in his ten ton electro magnet and separates the steel from the copper, aluminum, and lead.
Later in the day some people drove up to Rocky's scrap yard. They beeped their horn and Rocky came over to the window. Rocky assumed that they had some scrap to sell.
"Hello, got some scrap metal to sell." Rocky said with a smile.
"Yes, we've got old AC radiators, do you take them," asked the man.
"Yes, I take them, I'm going to need to see your ID, please."
Little did Rocky know, that the ID card was stolen! After Rocky weighed the scrap and calculated the cost, he went over to the window to hand the man his money. But Rocky noticed that the guy seemed a bit on edge and jittery.
"Oh, uh, thank you, uh we'll be going now," The guy said as he drove away rather quickly.
"That was kind of weird," Rocky Puzzled with confusion, then Rocky walked over to his recycling truck and dumped the copper out. Then he used his angle grinder to cut the brass and steel ends of the pipes. Then he finished he's day of by crushing some cars.
"Okay put the car in here, and crush um. Oh yeah, I enjoy crushing cars," Rocky said with a satisfied grin.
"PAW Patrol to the lookout," called Ryder over Rocky's pup tag.
"Oh, Ryder needs us," Responded Rocky as he shut down his scrap yard.
At the lookout Ryder asked the pups about they're day.
"I wealy had fun playing at the beach," Zuma said in a playful mood.
"I finished the demolition the big building on Main Street." Rubble said with a satisfied grin.
"I enjoyed helping Captain Turbot move the big crates," Skye said
"And I worked on scrap," Rocky said
"That all sounds fun, how about you Chase," Ryder said.
"It's strange, people kept on reporting stolen air conditioners. I had to respond to about 10 different calls," Chase said with an exasperated look on his face.
"Hmm, Chase, I think I know who took them," Rocky said.
"Ryder, can Rocky and I stay up a little bit longer, I need to see what evidenced he has." Chase said with a very serious look.
"Yes of course, but go to bed when you're done."
Chase and Rocky race back to the scrap yard. Rocky quickly finds the record and ID of the person who sold the AC radiators.
"That's him, he seemed like he was on edge, and he was very jittery," Rocky said.
"How many radiators did he sell to you," Chase asked.
"Let's see, my records say that it was ten whole AC radiators."
"Thanks Rocky, this is great evidence."
"Are you going to arrest the guy," Rocky asked.
"Not yet, I need to do a little more digging, but this helps a lot," Chase said.
Chase wrote everything down and took a picture of the ID card and the records. When they got back to the lookout Chase talked to Ryder for a little bit. But Rocky was to tired to listen in, so he went to go to bed. When they got to the bedroom the other pups where sound asleep. So Rocky and Chase quietly slipped into their bunks and peacefully fell asleep, Chase thinking about the case, and Rocky thinking about scrap metal prices.
A scrap metal thief, curious, what is dose this thief want with Adventure bay, and who is it, come back next week for another chapter in Adventures of the PAW Patrol.
