Chapter 12-King County
Amy's P.O.V
The sun was rising in the air as Amy climbed off the couch inside of the R.V. She looked at Andrea who was sitting at the table. "Were you watching me sleep?" Amy asks with a smirk.
"No," Andrea answers. "Want some coffee?" Amy nods as she sits down beside her sister. "Do you think we should leave?"
"I think if we continue to see walkers, this place can't stop a herd," Amy tells her sister. Andrea nods.
"Can I ask you something without you tearing my head off?" Andrea asks her sister who nods. "Daryl, how do you really feel about him?"
"I care about him, a lot. He's made me stronger, showed me how to take care of myself. But to answer the question that you want to know, yes, I like him," Amy answers as Glenn comes into the R.V.
"Daryl's truck is gone," Glenn tells Amy who stands.
"What?" Amy asks as she follows him out of the R.V and sees that the truck was gone. "Did you check his tent?" Amy asks Glenn who shakes his head as Amy starts to walk towards the tent. She gets to the bottom of the hill and opens the tent to see Merle staring at her.
"Good morning, blondie," Merle says.
"Where is Daryl?" Amy asks.
"I have no idea," Merle says. "Last night, he packed up a bag and said he would be back later today."
"Where the hell would he have gone by himself?" Glenn asks. Amy sighs.
"I don't know, I mentioned King County to him yesterday but he said he was going to wait until after the run to Atlanta," Amy tells him.
"Should we go after him?" Glenn asks.
"No," Merle says making them look at him. "You both trust, Daryl, right?" They nod. "Then trust that he'll be back, my baby brother can handle himself better than those folks up there. He'll be back," Merle says. "Now one of you help me up."
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl stops his truck inside the fence of the police station and climbs out. He could see a jeep. He grabs his crossbow and slowly enters the police station. He slowly moves in the police station. He turns the corner and runs straight into two men and a boy. "Back up right now!" The black man says as he raises his gun at Daryl and the other man does the same.
"Drop the crossbow!" The man in the sheriff's uniform says. Daryl watches them but stops when he sees the man's badge and looks at his face.
"Rick?" Daryl says making the man loosen his grip on his gun. "Rick Grimes?"
"Yeah, who the hell are you?" Rick asks.
"How the hell are you alive?" Daryl asks as he lowers his crossbow.
"Who are you? How the hell do you know who I am?" Rick asks.
"I'm Daryl Dixon," Daryl says as he puts his crossbow around his back. "I know your wife and son, Shane too."
"They're alive?" Rick asks as he lowers his gun.
"Yeah, in a camp, bout three hours outside the city," Daryl answers as he looks at the black man. "You can lower that gun, I ain't here to fight. I came for the guns."
"Is Shane here?" Rick asks and Daryl shakes his head. "But they are alive? Lori and Carl?"
"Yeah," Daryl says. "Who's your friend."
"Morgan and Daune, they saved my life," Rick says.
"How are you alive? Shane said you died."
"I don't know how I'm alive, someone must have taken care of me," Rick says. "Let's get outside," Rick says and Daryl nods as they walk outside. "You said you have a camp? How many?"
"Twenty five," Daryl says.
"Why aren't you in Atlanta, the refugee camps?" Rick asks and Daryl chuckles.
"You're kidding me right. How long have you been awake?"
"A day," Rick answers.
"The city is overrun with walkers, there ain't no refugee camp, it's a pipe dream," Daryl says. He looks at Morgan and Daune. "You coming with us?"
"This place, is it safe?" Morgan asks.
"Safer than here," Daryl answers.
"I'll join you in a couple of days, I got something I gotta do," Morgan says and Daryl nods. Rick goes to the squad car as Daryl goes to the truck and grabs a map. He marks the camp down and walks over to them as Rick hands him a radio.
"This is our location, don't know how long we're gonna be there but it should help," Daryl tells Morgan who nods.
"You're a good man, Rick," Morgan says as he shakes Rick's hand. "Make sure he gets to his wife and son," Daryl nods as Morgan goes to the car with Daune.
"Let's get on the road," Rick says.
"Hold on, you know any jewelry stores nearby?" Daryl asks and Rick looks at him confused. "Do you?"
"Yeah," Rick says as Daryl goes to the truck.
"Well come on officer," Daryl says and Rick follows.
Amy's P.O.V
Amy stood on top of the R.V. "Amy," Shane says as he walks up to the R.V. "Where the hell is he?"
"Why would I know, Shane?" Amy asks him.
"Because you spend more time with him than his brother does," Shane replies.
"My best guess is King County," Amy says making Lori look up from where she was.
"Why the hell would he go there?" Shane growls as Amy climbs down.
"Because I heard you and Lori talking yesterday and told him about the police station, the guns that could still be there," Amy says.
"Guns?" Madison asks from where she sat.
"Shane and Lori are from King County, Shane was a cop, apparently the police station was stocked with guns and neither of them wanted to mention it," Amy says. "That is probably where Daryl went," Amy says as she walks away.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl climbs out of the truck and walks into the store. "Is there a reason we are shopping?" Rick asks with a smirk as Daryl looks around.
"Trying to find something," Daryl says as he looks around the store.
"For?"
"My friend," Daryl says as he stops by a case with some necklaces. "You going to arrest me if I break this?"
Rick chuckles. "No," Rick says as Daryl hits his crossbow against the glass and reaches into it and pulls out a mermaid necklace. "You sure it isn't for a girlfriend."
"She ain't my girlfriend," Daryl says as he tucks it in his pocket. He looks towards Rick and raises his crossbow. Rick quickly turns around and raises his gun when they see a man standing outside.
"I don't want any trouble," The man says. "I just need food,"
Daryl and Rick share a look as the man removes his gun and sets it down. "I'm Chase." He says.
"Daryl, Rick," Daryl says as he looks at him and lowers his crossbow. "Where you from?"
"Atlanta," Chase says as he looks at Rick. "I seen you before, with another man, you're a cop, worked here. There was a storage unit with a picture of you in it."
Rick nods. "We have a camp," Daryl says. "You pull your weight and you can join our group."
"I would appreciate it," Chase says
Daryl nods as he walks past him to the truck. Chase climbs in the bed and they leave heading for their camp.
Glenn's P.O.V
Glenn looked at Alicia as she walked up to him. "I want to join you on runs," Alicia says.
"Why?" Glenn asks. "No offense Alicia but you have barley left the group in the last two months, out there you aren't safe ever, you're always watching your back."
"I want to carry my weight, Glenn. I can't hunt, but I can help you gather supplies," Alicia says. "Let me help, Glenn."
"Alright," Glenn says. "But you aren't going to Atlanta with me, we'll start small and we'll see how you do," Glenn tells the woman who nods. "Once Daryl get's back we'll set up a run with him and Amy and see how you do."
Alicia nods as she walks away from Glenn.
Rick's P.O.V
Rick looked at Daryl as he drove down the road. "How have Shane, Lori, and Carl been?" Rick asks making Daryl look at him.
"They're fine," Daryl replies.
"You aren't their biggest fans are you?" Rick asks.
"We don't get along," Daryl answers. "Haven't since the start, only really got two friends in that camp, Amy and Glenn."
"Shane hasn't liked you since the start has he?" Rick asks and Daryl nods. "He's judged a few people like you, came from rough families, been surviving sense they were born. He's hotheaded sometimes but he's a good man, I just met you but I think you are too," Rick says.
"This world changes good men," Daryl says. "We should be there soon," Rick doesn't say anything else as he looks out of the window.
Daryl's P.O.V
The sun had set as the gates to the camp opened and Daryl drived the truck in. He stopped the truck as he looked at Rick. "Let's go see your family," Daryl says as he climbs out of the truck. Rick climbs out. He takes a few steps forward and saw Carl and Lori.
"Dad!" Carl shouts as he sees his father and runs towards him. Rick walks and hugs him son falling in the dirt as he picks him up and kisses his head. Lori walks up to her husband and hugs him as Rick kisses her cheek. Amy runs up to Daryl and hugs him. After a moment she lets him go.
"You asshole, what the hell were you doing?"
"Helping us," Daryl says as Glenn walks up to him and hugs him.
"You found Lori's husband and a new guy?" Glenn asks.
"That's Chase," Daryl says as Rick let's Lori go and hugs Shane.
"It's good to see you brother," Shane says with a grin. "How the hell?"
"I woke up yesterday and I ran into a man named Morgan, today we cleared out the station and ran into Daryl. I was going to go into the city looking for you guys. Daryl stopped me," Rick says making Lori and Shane look at him.
"Thank you," Lori says to Daryl. "Thank you for bringing him back to us."
Daryl nods. "You're welcome," Daryl says as Rick walks up to him and holds his hand out to him.
"Thank you," Rick says and Daryl shakes his hand.
"It's been a long day, Glenn can you get Chase somewhere to sleep?" Daryl asks Glenn who nods as he walks towards his tent. Amy follows him.
"You can't do that," Amy says making Daryl look at her. "Okay, you can't just leave during the night and not tell anybody."
"I know," Daryl says. "It was stupid but it worked out," Daryl says.
"I was worried, okay promise me you won't do something that stupid again," Amy says and Daryl nods.
"I promise," Daryl says as he lays his hand on her shoulder.
"You're an idiot," Amy says with a small smile.
"I know," Daryl says. "I'm gonna go check on my brother," Daryl says as he walks down the hill and into the tent.
"Did it go well?" Merle asks him and Daryl nods.
"Yeah, got the guns and two new people. One of them is Lori's husband."
"The dead one?" Merle asks Daryl who nods as he lays down on his sleeping bag.
"I'm going to bed, night."
"Night."
Thanks for reading. Next chapter Rick settles into the camp and starts to learn about the events that has happened, Merle continues to try and walk and the group must deal with a new problem. As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
