The castle grounds were quiet that evening, a stark contrast to the bustling energy of the Quidditch pitch earlier that day. Ginny had been restless since the match, unable to shake off the lingering adrenaline and confusion over Draco's actions. She found herself wandering the corridors aimlessly, needing air and space, but unable to find any relief within the stone walls.

Just as she reached a secluded courtyard, she spotted Draco leaning against the stone archway. He looked up at her approach, his expression guarded but curious. She hesitated, part of her wanting to turn and leave, but the unresolved tension between them pulled her forward.

"You always lurking around dark corners, Malfoy?" Ginny said, her voice lighter than she felt, trying to mask the turmoil inside.

"Only when there's a Weasley wandering about," Draco replied, a faint smirk on his lips. He straightened up, his gaze never leaving hers. "What are you doing out here?"

Ginny shrugged, her hands slipping into her pockets. "Needed some air." She paused, glancing at him. "What about you?"

Draco seemed to consider her question, then shrugged as well. "Same, I suppose. After today, I figured it was better to avoid the common room."

Ginny raised an eyebrow. "Still licking your wounds?"

Draco chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Not exactly. Just avoiding questions I don't want to answer."

She knew what he meant. The looks and whispers after the match last week had been bad enough for her, and she hadn't even saved the enemy. It must have been a thousand times worse for Draco, especially since he told off Nott.

Silence settled between them, thick with unspoken thoughts. Ginny leaned back against the wall, staring up at the darkening sky.

"Why did you do it?" she asked, her voice breaking the stillness.

Draco glanced at her, his brow furrowing slightly. "Do what?"

"Save me," Ginny clarified, turning her head to look at him. "Why did you go after me like that?"

Draco's gaze held hers, something unreadable flickering in his eyes. "What was I supposed to do? Let you fall?"

She shook her head, frustrated. "No, I mean - why did you care? Why risk yourself?"

He hesitated, then stepped closer, his movements slow and deliberate, as if he was afraid she might bolt. "I don't know," he admitted, his voice lower now. "I just...I saw you falling, and I didn't think. I acted."

Ginny swallowed, her heart thudding in her chest. There was something raw and honest in his tone that she hadn't expected. She looked away, her thoughts swirling, a hundred questions and emotions tangled together.

"I don't get you, Malfoy," she murmured, more to herself than to him.

"Join the club," he muttered back, his lips smirking slightly, though his eyes remained serious.

They stood like that for a while, the silence stretching between them, but this time it felt different. The courtyard seemed to shrink, the space between them becoming the only thing that mattered. Ginny felt her pulse quicken as Draco took another step forward, closing the distance between them.

"Ginny..." he started, his voice uncharacteristically hesitant.

She looked up at him, surprised by the way he said her name. Not Weasley. Ginny. It felt different coming from him, softer, almost tentative. Her breath caught as he reached out, his hand brushing against her arm, the touch sending a jolt through her.

"What are we doing?" she asked, her voice barely more than a whisper.

Draco's eyes searched hers, and for a moment, she saw the same confusion and uncertainty she felt reflected back at her. But then his expression hardened, resolve replacing the uncertainty.

"I don't know," he said quietly, stepping even closer.

Ginny's heart raced as he leaned in, his face inches from hers. She could feel his breath on her skin, her pulse hammering in her ears. She knew she should say something, push him away, but she couldn't move. The air between them was charged, every nerve in her body screaming at her to close the gap, to stop thinking and just-

Their lips brushed, barely a touch, but it was enough to send a shockwave through her. Ginny's eyes fluttered shut, her breath hitching as Draco's hand slid up to cup her cheek, his thumb brushing against her skin. The kiss was tentative, almost questioning, as if he was waiting for her to pull away.

But she didn't.

Ginny leaned into him, her hands reaching up to grip the front of his robes, pulling him closer. The kiss deepened, all the frustration and confusion of the past few weeks melting away in the heat of the moment. She could feel the tension in his body, the restraint, and it only made her want to push him further, to see just how much control he could hold onto.

But just as the kiss threatened to consume them both, the sound of approaching footsteps shattered the moment. They broke apart, both breathing hard, their eyes wide with shock and something else - something neither of them wanted to name.

Ginny glanced over her shoulder, spotting a group of students rounding the corner. Her heart still racing, she turned back to Draco, her voice breathless. "We should-"

"Yeah," he agreed quickly, his gaze lingering on her for a beat longer than necessary before he stepped back, putting some distance between them.

Ginny took a shaky breath, her mind spinning. She didn't know what had just happened, or what it meant, but one thing was clear: whatever this was between them, it wasn't going away. And she wasn't sure if that terrified her or thrilled her.

Maybe both.

Ginny made her way quickly through the castle corridors, her mind racing with what had just happened. She needed to talk to someone - someone who wouldn't immediately jump to conclusions or blow things out of proportion. That meant finding Hermione.

Pushing through the portrait hole, Ginny spotted Hermione by the fire, surrounded by books and parchments. Ginny sighed and marched over. She dropped into the seat beside her, the words tumbling out before she could stop herself.

"Hermione, I need to talk to you."

Hermione looked up from her book, eyebrows rising in concern. "Ginny, what's wrong?"

Ginny glanced around the common room to make sure no one was within earshot, then leaned closer. "I kissed Draco."

Hermione's eyes widened, and she sat up straighter, clearly taken aback. "You - what?"

"I kissed him. Twice, kind of," Ginny clarified, feeling a weight lift just by saying it out loud. "And it's messing with my head."

Hermione stared at her for a long moment, clearly processing this new information. Finally, she let out a sigh, shaking her head. "I'm trying really hard to keep an open mind here, Ginny, but you have to admit this is...unexpected."

"I know, I know," Ginny said, her words rushing out. "But it's not just that. There's been more. He saved me at the Quidditch match last week when I fell off my broom. And he stepped in when Nott was harassing me. And we almost kissed in the potions lab the other night…" Ginny burried her face in her hands.

Hermione's brows furrowed in thought, and then she sighed, her gaze softening. "Ginny, I know Draco seems like he's been better to you, but...are you sure he's not just trying to get you back in bed?"

Ginny's eyes widened in shock. "Hermione, I-"

"I'm not saying you don't know what you're doing," Hermione interrupted gently, "but this is Draco Malfoy we're talking about. He's not exactly known for his integrity. What if he's just trying to see if he can sleep with you again?"

Ginny felt a surge of frustration with herself. "You think I haven't already thought about that?" she said, her voice tight with anxiety. "I've been driving myself mad wondering if that's all it is. But it doesn't feel like that, Hermione. I think..."

Hermione was quiet for a moment, clearly weighing her words carefully. "Okay, so let's think this through. He's saved you, defended you, and now he's kissing you. That's...a lot more than what most people would expect from Draco Malfoy."

Ginny nodded slowly. "I know. And every time Ron or Harry brings it up, it's like I can't help but defend him. Because it's not just about what happened between us. He's actually been decent, Hermione. I don't know how to explain it, but I've seen a different side of him."

Hermione's expression softened, her voice more cautious now. "I get that. But just because he's been decent to you doesn't mean his intentions are entirely good."

Ginny let out a frustrated sigh. "I know. But it's more than just him being decent. He's been...human, you know? I can't stop thinking about him, about what we did, and it's driving me crazy."

Hermione's gaze turned more thoughtful, her tone gentler. "Ron's constant badgering is probably making it worse. He's so determined to hate Malfoy that it's just putting him on your mind even more."

"Exactly!" Ginny exclaimed, throwing her hands up. "They're keeping him in my head, and now I can't tell if it's real or just because I'm being rebellious. And then tonight, when we kissed...I don't know, Hermione. It felt real."

Hermione was quiet for a moment, then she took a deep breath. "You kissed him tonight?"

Ginny closed her eyes and let out a sigh, tipping her head back. "I literally kissed him five minutes ago…"

Hermione took a moment, clearly still struggling to process everything. "I just don't want to see you get hurt, Ginny. You need to be careful. Don't let yourself get swept up in the idea of him, okay?"

Ginny's shoulders slumped, the weight of it all pressing down on her. "I don't even know what I want, Hermione. I just...I need to figure this out."

Hermione reached over, squeezing Ginny's hand gently. "Maybe it's time you talk to Draco. See where he really stands."

Ginny looked at her friend, seeing the genuine concern in her eyes. "You think I should?"

Hermione nodded, her expression earnest. "I think it's better than driving yourself mad wondering. And if he's serious, he'll be honest with you. If not...well, then you'll know."

Ginny took a deep breath, the knot in her stomach loosening just a bit. "Thanks, Hermione. I needed to hear that."

Hermione smiled softly. "You're welcome. Just promise me you'll be careful, okay?"

Ginny managed a small smile. "I will."

They sat in silence for a few moments, the crackling of the fire filling the room. Despite the chaos in her mind, Ginny felt a little more settled, a little more sure of what she needed to do.

Whatever this thing with Draco was, she couldn't ignore it any longer.
