Chapter 49: Confessions

Namiko handed Sasuke an ice pack for his jaw as she sat next to him on the ground. "You'd be better off to let Sakura heal that."

"She's got enough to handle right now and it's just a bruise anyway."

"I'm sorry I told Naruto without warning you, I'd hoped he would be calm after otou-san got him to focus on how he'll be an amazing uncle. It was kind of a right place, wrong time sort of thing."

Sasuke reached out and ran his thumb across the back of her wrist. "It's okay. I fully expected it would happen."

"What happened to 'Naruto's not the only one who knows how to throw a punch'?" she said with a smirk.

Sasuke scoffed. "Hn. I'll let him be the hero for today."

Her smirk turned into a sweet smile. "I think you're forgetting you helped too. Taking out those Pain puppets, especially the one with the summoning animals, helped a lot."

"You helped save people in the hospital," he reminded her.

"Yeah, and then I almost caused more damage by losing control of the kyuubi," she said with a sigh.

A familiar drawl from behind them caused her to jump, "I'd hardly say you lost control; you didn't hurt anyone or anything."

"Kakashi-sensei don't startle me like that!" chided Namiko as she and Sasuke both stood.

His visible eyebrow raised. "Are you not using your chakra sensing?"

"Oh…uh…it's been giving me headaches lately, so I've been using it sparingly." She dusted off her skirt, giving a small shrug hoping he'd drop the subject. 'Oh please don't let him have heard our earlier conversation…'

Kakashi looked between the two of them, his eye narrowing slightly as if piecing something together. His sharp gaze lingered on her for a moment, but he didn't press further. "Headaches, huh? Could be stress. After everything that's happened, it's no surprise."

Namiko forced a smile. "Yeah, maybe."

Sasuke glanced at her, his brow furrowing slightly. He knew there was more to it, but he kept quiet. They both knew Namiko was hiding more than just a simple headache.

Kakashi shifted his attention, letting his eye crinkle in a brief smile. "Anyway, I came to tell you both something. The daimyo and council are meeting later to discuss the attack and rebuilding Konoha. They want you two there."

Namiko exchanged a glance with Sasuke. "Us?" she asked, slightly surprised. "Why?"

"They want to speak with anyone who had an encounter with one of Pain's puppets and, of course, because of your, uh, transformation," explained Kakashi. His tone became more lighthearted, "Don't get worried, you and Naruto did nothing wrong."

"We'll be there," she said finally, glancing at Sasuke for confirmation.

Sasuke gave a slight nod, but his focus remained on Namiko. He could sense the unease in her posture, the way her hands fidgeted in her lap.

"Alright, I'll see you both soon. The meeting starts in an hour in the large green tent." At Namiko's nod, Kakashi waved a hand as he turned to leave.

As Kakashi disappeared into the distance, Sasuke moved closer to her, his voice low and serious. "How much longer do you think we can keep this from him?"

Namiko tensed, her hands instinctively moving to her stomach. "Not long," she murmured. "I just need a little more time."

"We've already been pushing it," he said, concern lacing his usually calm tone. "And considering Naruto can't keep a secret to save his life, it's only a matter of time before the idiot tells the whole village."

"I know!" Namiko snapped, then immediately regretted it. She sighed and rubbed her temples. "I know," she repeated more softly. "But with the village in ruins and everything that just happened, it doesn't feel like the right time to tell people."

Sasuke watched her, the storm of emotions playing out in her eyes as she avoided his gaze. He reached out, gently brushing his fingers against hers. "I understand," he said, his voice quieter, calmer. "Remember you aren't carrying this weight alone. We're in this together, remember?"

Namiko nodded, biting her lower lip as she leaned her forehead into his chest, finding comfort in his presence. "I know we're in this together…but I'm scared, Sasuke. Telling everyone—it's going to change everything."

For a moment, they sat in silence, the weight of their secret hanging heavily between them. But it wasn't an uncomfortable silence—it was filled with shared resolve. They both knew the road ahead wasn't going to be easy, but they also knew that they had each other.

Approximately an hour later, she and Sasuke arrived at the meeting tent, and Naruto had already finished his recount of the day. Sasuke answered questions and summarized his part succinctly, and now, Namiko was answering her part of the questions from the council.

The council as a whole seemed thankful to her for keeping the hospital and the people inside safe, but the Daimyo wasn't afraid to be rude in his harsh and overly critical line of questioning, "So you lost control of the kyuubi as well? How can we trust you won't do it again?"

"Neither I nor my brother harmed anyone or anything during our transformations today." Namiko kept her composure, her posture straight as her calm words resonated in the large council tent. She could feel Sasuke's unwavering presence just behind her, his eyes sharp and alert, silently supporting her.

The Daimyo's frown deepened, his voice thick with skepticism. "That may be true this time, but history shows that the kyuubi is uncontrollable. The destruction it caused sixteen years ago is well-known. What guarantee do we have that you can suppress its influence?"

Naruto opened his mouth to argue, but Namiko spoke first. "I understand your concern, Daimyo-sama. But Naruto and I have spent our entire lives, sixteen years, dealing with the power inside us. Other than my brother's harmless pranks as a child, neither of us has ever caused a problem."

The room was silent for a moment as the council members exchanged glances. Some seemed convinced, while others were still wary. The Daimyo, however, wasn't done.

"Even if what you say is true, the fact remains that you are a potential threat," he said, his tone cold. "And with Uchiha Sasuke—who was once a rogue shinobi—as close friends and living with you both, how can we trust that you won't be influenced or manipulated?"

Namiko felt a pang of anger in her chest, and she tried to shove it down. She squared her shoulders and looked the Daimyo directly in the eyes. "Sasuke has never manipulated me, nor will he ever. Our relationship is based on mutual trust, understanding, and respect. He is family to Naruto and I. Konoha put him through intense and detailed scans of his every memory since childhood and he passed with flying colors. It was enough proof for Konoha. If you don't trust their judgment, then perhaps you shouldn't be lord over Konoha."

Behind her, Naruto snickered quietly at her snarky remark. Sasuke's expression softened for just a second, a flicker of emotion crossing his usually stoic face. He knew how much she risked by defending him so openly. Now it was his turn to defend them.

"You say they're potential threats, but you're forgetting that moments ago you praised Naruto for defeating Pain and saving not just Konoha, but all the Land of Fire." Sasuke did his best to keep his face and tone neutral, "Without him, you most likely would have lost nearly all of your shinobi defenses, as well as the civilians, who are the ones who pay your salary."

Naruto, finally unable to stay silent, stepped forward. "We've spent our whole lives fighting for peace," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "Namiko and I didn't ask to have the kyuubi sealed inside us, but we've learned to live with it. The people of Konoha trust us, and you should too."

Tsunade, who had been sitting silently throughout the questioning, spoke up, her voice filled with authority. "With all due respect, Daimyo-sama, these three have proven themselves time and again. They've saved this village, fought against impossible odds, and kept their promise to protect the people. They are not our enemies—they are our future."

Namiko looked up at Tsunade with a silent thank you in her eyes. The words felt like a small shield around her, a reminder that not everyone doubted her, Naruto, and Sasuke. Their godmother was still in their corner.

The Daimyo let out a sigh, clearly weighing his options. He glanced back at his advisors, who whispered among themselves before nodding in agreement. "Very well," he said finally, his tone reluctant. "But remember this, our patience has limits. If either of you loses control again, there will be consequences. Grave consequences. I now dismiss this meeting."

As the council members began to disperse, the tension in the room slowly eased. Namiko felt Sasuke's hand brush hers lightly, a small gesture of reassurance that only she could feel. She glanced up at him and saw the faintest hint of approval in his eyes, though his face remained unreadable.

Naruto, however, was still simmering with anger. As soon as the council members were out of earshot, he turned to Namiko, his voice barely controlled. "I can't believe they're still treating us like ticking time bombs. After everything we've done!"

Namiko placed a calming hand on his shoulder. "I know, nii-chan. But we can't change their minds overnight. We just have to keep proving them wrong."

Naruto's expression softened slightly at her words, though his frustration lingered. "I just wish they'd see us for who we really are, not just as the kyuubi's hosts."

"They will, eventually," Namiko said quietly, her eyes steady. "We'll make sure of it."

Tsunade approached them, her gaze softening as she looked between the two siblings. "You handled yourselves well," she said, her voice low but full of pride. "It wasn't an easy meeting, but you managed it with grace, though maybe tinged a bit with sass."

"Sorry I started to lose my patience, but thank you, Tsunade-ba-chan," Namiko replied, bowing her head slightly.

Tsunade smiled faintly, then turned her gaze to Sasuke, who had remained silent throughout the conversation. "You, too, Sasuke. The village is watching, and your actions are being noticed. The fact that you stood by Namiko today means a lot to me."

Sasuke met her gaze, his expression unreadable. "I'm only here to protect what's important to me." Namiko's heart swelled at his words, and she couldn't stop the smile on her face.

"Alright, I'm going to find Hinata. I'll see you guys later!" said Naruto with a wave before dashing out of the tent.

As they began to leave, Namiko felt a sudden wave of exhaustion and nausea. The stress of the meeting, combined with her pregnancy, was starting to take its toll on her body. She wobbled slightly, and before she could fully regain her balance, Sasuke was already at her side, his hand on her arm to steady her.

"You should rest," he said quietly, his voice low enough that only she could hear. "You've pushed yourself too hard."

"I'm fine," Namiko replied normally, shrugging off his hand even though she knew he was right. "I just need a moment."

"Namiko, I think I should check you over. With you almost having a four-tailed cloak, I want to make sure you didn't damage your body or chakra system." Tsunade's hand rested lightly on Namiko's back, guiding her into the tent used for Tsunade's office near the much larger tent used for the injured.

Namiko's eyes widened in panic because she knew their secret was about to be revealed, but she didn't argue; she wanted to make sure she and the babies were okay. 'This was not how I planned ba-chan finding out I was pregnant.'

As Namiko settled onto the cot, she glanced nervously at Sasuke, who stood silently at the entrance, his eyes never leaving her. Thankfully, there was no one else in the tent, so at least she wouldn't have an audience.

"Lie down, Namiko. This should only take a moment," Tsunade said, her tone professional but laced with concern. She activated her chakra, her hand softly glowing green as it hovered over Namiko's body, beginning the scan. "Sasuke, I know you and Namiko are together, but you don't have to be with her every moment."

"No, he can stay." Namiko felt the familiar warmth of Tsunade's chakra spread through her, but her heart raced with anxiety.

Sasuke, who was now standing near the end of the cot, noticed the tension in Namiko's body language and clenched his fists nervously. He wasn't sure how Tsunade would react when she learned the truth. 'Maybe I shouldn't be in here, but I don't want to leave Namiko alone either.'

Moments passed as Tsunade's chakra probed deeper. Suddenly, her brow furrowed, and her hand hesitated over Namiko's abdomen. Namiko tensed, her pulse quickening. Tsunade's eyes narrowed in concentration then suddenly snapped up to meet Namiko's. She knew by the look on Namiko's face that her goddaughter had already known her diagnosis.

"Namiko…you're pregnant?" Tsunade's voice was quiet but filled with shock, her usual composure slipping as the weight of her words settled into the room as she watched Namiko nod. "Do you know it's twins?"

Namiko swallowed hard as she sat up, her heart pounding. She had been trying to avoid this conversation for as long as possible, but there was no hiding it anymore. Her eyes flicked to Sasuke, who nodded subtly, giving her the strength to speak. "Yes," Namiko said quietly, her voice steady but laced with vulnerability.

The silence in the tent was palpable. Tsunade's shock quickly turned to concern, her expression softening. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?" she asked, her voice rising slightly, though still tinged with concern.

Namiko averted her gaze for a moment before answering. "I was going to tell you. I just didn't know how." She let out a shaky breath. "You warned us months ago to be careful, but it didn't matter anyway because I was already pregnant, but it didn't show up on my post-mission physical. It's been hard to process myself."

Tsunade straightened, the concern on her face growing deeper. "Namiko, this is serious. How long have you known?"

"Hinata saw them with her Byakugan when we were training on New Year's Day and Sakura scanned me to confirm."

Tsunade raised her eyebrows in surprise before furrowing them. "Sakura knows? She should have told me as soon as she knew. Pregnant kunoichi are to be removed from active duty immediately, and she knows that."

"Don't be upset with her, I made her promise not to say anything, and she made me promise no more combat training until I told you," pleaded Namiko.

"While she was right to do that much, she should have reported it to me for your safety. Pregnancy makes chakra unstable for a normal kunoichi because your chakra is diverted to the growing fetus. But being pregnant with twins means your body would be working doubly hard which can make using jutsu difficult and even dangerous," Her tone was sterner now, but there was no anger, just fear for her goddaughter. "Add in your struggles to contain the kyuubi's chakra…I'm honestly shocked you were able to do ninjutsu at all, especially Sealing Chains and Flying Raijin, though no more using ninjutsu anymore for your own safety. Using that much chakra, especially using the kyuubi's chakra, while carrying twins—it's dangerous, Namiko. Incredibly dangerous."

Sasuke stepped forward, his voice low and calm but full of resolve. "I tried to stop her from pushing herself too far, but the situation escalated." His gaze shifted to Tsunade, silently pleading for her understanding. "She'll be more careful now."

"I'm pretty sure I was just running on adrenaline and the kyuubi's chakra." Guilt settled in Namiko's chest. "I didn't hurt them, did I?"

Silence filled the room as Tsunade scanned her stomach carefully with medical ninjutsu, before straightening up and crossing her arms. "No, they're fine and healthy, but you very well could have. It looks like you're about eleven weeks."

"Eleven weeks? Sakura told me last week that I was about eight weeks since we knew the date I got pregnant, so wouldn't I be nine weeks?"

"We typically add two weeks when only the date of conception is known. Conception may have been nine weeks ago, but you'd be eleven weeks pregnant." Tsunade sighed, rubbing her temples in frustration. "It's still early enough that we can terminate—"

"No!" snapped Namiko and Sasuke simultaneously.

"You two want to be parents, to twins no less, at the age of sixteen? This isn't like playing house as kids; you're fully responsible for two other lives." Tsunade looked accusatorially at Sasuke. "You especially."

"I'm well aware," he replied. "But I'm with her one hundred percent and Namiko knows that. We obviously didn't plan this. However, it's not like the twins asked to be here. We're keeping them."

"I respect that you two are trying to accept the consequences of your actions, but I wish you would have told me earlier." Tsunade scowled and groaned, as if she'd just aged ten years. "Part of it's my fault that you didn't know earlier; it's standard procedure to do repeat testing a month after a mission, but somehow it must've slipped through the cracks."

Tsunade, still processing the revelation, exhaled heavily. "Namiko, you need to rest and avoid using the kyuubi's power at all costs from now on. The strain could affect the twins. Your chakra network is mostly stable right, but if you push yourself like this again, it could put both your life and theirs in danger."

Namiko's heart sank at the thought. "What do I do?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"You let us handle the Akatsuki or any other enemies," Tsunade said firmly, her eyes softening as she placed a hand on Namiko's shoulder. "And from now on, your only mission is your health and the health of your children."

Namiko nodded and stood, tears stuck in her throat. "I can do that."

Sasuke moved to stand beside Namiko, his hand reaching for hers. "I'll make sure of it," he said, his voice filled with quiet determination.

Tsunade gave a final nod, her voice softening as she said, "You're carrying more than just your own future on your shoulders now, Namiko. You have to take care of yourself." She breathed out forcefully through her nose, straightening her spine. "Now, as Hokage, I ask that you keep this all on a need-to-know basis. For now, when you see fit, you are allowed to tell your teammates only. However, I am ordering you both to tell your former teachers. Today."

It took Naruto quite a while to find Hinata again due to all the congratulations he was getting. By the time he found her, it was nearly dusk. He noticed she was talking to someone but couldn't really see who it was because they were facing away from him.

The second she saw him, Hinata smiled brightly and gave a small wave, motioning him over to her. He happily jogged up to her but froze when he finally saw who she was talking to: Hanabi and Hiashi.

Upon locking eyes with Hiashi, Naruto instantly paled. The last time he saw the head of the Hyuuga clan, he had demanded Naruto stay away from Hinata, but he had done the exact opposite. Suddenly, Naruto would rather be fighting Pain again than face his girlfriend's father. "Oh…hello…"

"I heard you are the man of the hour," began Hiashi, his face as neutral as ever, "and also that you saved the lives of not only my daughter but the whole village."

Naruto awkwardly rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah…well, Hinata gave me the strength to keep going. I honestly thought I was stuck until she started knocking out those black rods."

Hanabi couldn't hold herself back any longer. She ran up to him, wrapping her arms tightly around his stomach, looking up at him with the same lavender eyes as her sister. "Thank you so much, Naruto-san for saving my sister!"

"You're welcome," he said gently hugging her back, "Your sister means a lot to me…and I…" He paused, glancing at Hinata who smiled sweetly at him. "I love her very much." Naruto straightened his back and looked Hiashi in the eyes, preparing for an incoming order to stay away again.

"You have my blessing."

Naruto blinked confusedly. "Huh?"

Hiashi chuckled ever so slightly. "You have my blessing to date Hinata. It's obvious you love each other very much; it reminds me of how I fell in love with my wife."

Hinata gave Naruto a knowing smile; she must've already told her father they were dating before Naruto got there. He broke into a huge grin. "Thank you so much, sir!"

"I want to apologize," said Hiashi as he bowed slightly, "I unfairly judged you based on the fact that you are the kyuubi's vessel without ever getting the chance to know you. I realize now just how foolish it was of me. I hope you can forgive me."

"No hard feelings, I promise."

Hiashi stood straight again and folded his arms across his chest. "I'm assuming you wanted to see Hinata, so go on you two." He motioned for them to leave. "Hinata, you know where to find the Hyuuga clan's tent if you need anything. We were told Godaime is having everyone rest for tonight and rebuilding will start tomorrow. So go have fun."

Hinata nodded, quickly grabbing Naruto's hand and pulling him in the direction he came from. Naruto followed Hinata through the makeshift camp, weaving through tents and fires until they reached a secluded area just beyond the tree line, away from the crowd.

The sky was now painted with hues of pink and purple as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a soft glow on the two of them. Hinata stopped by a quiet spot under a large tree, the light breeze playing with the strands of her dark hair.

Hinata laced her fingers with his. The silence between them was comfortable, filled with the sound of the rustling leaves and distant campfire chatter. Naruto watched her for a moment, the way her lavender eyes shimmered in the dim light, her hair framing her face perfectly. She was so beautiful.

Without thinking much about it, Naruto stepped closer, his free hand moving to cup her cheek. "You know," he said softly, "I meant what I said back there...I really do love you."

Hinata's breath hitched, her eyes widening slightly before she closed the distance between them, her lips brushing against his in a soft, tentative kiss. Naruto's heart raced, his hand moving to her waist as he deepened the kiss, pulling her closer. The world seemed to melt away around them, leaving just the two of them at that moment.

Hinata's hands slid up his arms, resting on his shoulders as she pressed herself against him, the warmth of his body sending shivers down her spine. Naruto's other hand tangled in her hair, his lips moving more urgently against hers now, the intensity of the kiss growing with each passing second.

When they finally pulled apart, both were breathless. Hinata rested her cheek against his chest, her eyes still closed, her heart pounding in her chest. "Naruto-kun...I love you too," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Naruto grinned, still holding her close. "I could get used to this."

Hinata giggled softly, her face flushed, but she didn't pull away. Instead, she reached up to kiss him again, and Naruto happily obliged, losing himself in the warmth and softness of her lips, his arms wrapped tightly around her.

Hinata's kisses became more confident as she melted into Naruto's embrace, the soft warmth between them growing with each moment. The twilight air around them felt cooler, heightening the heat that built between them as their lips met again and again. Naruto's pulse raced, but for once, his usual nervous energy was replaced by something calmer, more intimate. It felt like time had slowed, leaving just the sound of their breaths and the gentle rustling of leaves.

He pulled her even closer, his hands now resting on the small of her back, tracing gentle circles as their kiss deepened. He could feel the quick beat of her heart as she pressed herself against him, her fingers running through his golden hair. Hinata's boldness surprised him, but he welcomed it, loving every moment of it.

They broke apart, both panting softly as they leaned their foreheads together, the warmth of their breath mingling in the cool evening air. Naruto's eyes locked with hers, his voice coming out in a whisper, "You're amazing, Hinata. I don't know how I got so lucky."

Hinata shook her head. "No, I'm the lucky one. Being able to say I'm yours is better than anything I ever dreamed possible."

Naruto's gaze softened even more at her words. Without thinking, he leaned down and kissed her again, this time slower and more tenderly. He wanted her to feel just how much she meant to him, even if he wasn't always the best with words.

The moments passed in comfortable silence as they simply held each other, stealing gentle kisses under the darkening sky. The world around them faded, and for a while, it was as if they were the only two people in existence.

After a while, Naruto spoke again, his voice a little sheepish as he realized how late it had gotten. "We should probably head back before everyone starts looking for us…but I don't want to let go just yet."

Hinata smiled, her hands still resting against his chest. "I don't either," she admitted, her voice soft.

Naruto chuckled lightly and gave her one last lingering kiss before finally pulling back slightly, though he kept one arm wrapped around her. "We'll have plenty of time together, I promise. Now that everything's calming down, I'm not letting you out of my sight," he said with a playful grin.

Hinata's eyes softened at his words, and she nodded, her heart full. They stood together for a moment longer, just enjoying the peace between them before they finally started making their way back to the camp.

As they walked hand in hand, the night falling around them, Naruto glanced at her, feeling like the luckiest guy in the world. No matter what challenges lay ahead, he knew one thing for sure, he would never stop fighting for the future they could have together. And judging by the way Hinata smiled back at him, he knew she felt the same.

Sasuke and Namiko had agreed to split up and tell their respective teachers alone. Sasuke found Kakashi half-heartedly listening to an animated story by that green-jumpsuit-clad ninja that always followed him around.

Kakashi noticed him instantaneously. "Hey Sasuke, can I help you with something?"

Sasuke kept his mouth closed and just nodded to the side to signal Kakashi to follow him. They walked away from the crowds of people and into the nearby woods. Sasuke kept his hands in his pockets, his gaze low as he led Kakashi deeper into the forest. His usually stoic expression faltered slightly as he struggled to find the right words.

Kakashi, always the keen observer, noticed the change in Sasuke's demeanor. "You've got that look in your eyes," he said casually, his voice calm but edged with curiosity. "What's on your mind?"

Sasuke stopped walking and leaned against a large tree, facing away from his sensei, his voice lowered, "Namiko's pregnant."

Kakashi's single visible eye widened briefly, but he remained outwardly composed. "I see," he responded slowly. "That's...a lot to process." His tone was neutral, but there was an undercurrent of concern as if he already understood the gravity of the situation.

"Go ahead and say it," bit out Sasuke as he leaned against a tree with his arms crossed over his chest.

"Say what?"

"That I fucked up."

"I'm pretty sure you don't need me to tell you that because I can see all over your face that you've been beating yourself up about this already."

"You warned me to be careful and I was cocky and refused to listen." Sasuke let out a barely audible groan. "Not that it would've mattered anyway. She got pregnant right before we came back to Konoha."

"So she's already a couple of months in…"

"And…she's pregnant with twins."

For the first time, Kakashi's demeanor wavered, his eye widening slightly behind his mask. "Twins?" he repeated. The weight of the news settled between them, the implications rippling outward in Kakashi's mind. 'The prophecy…' Namiko carrying twins with Sasuke. Children with both Uchiha and Uzumaki bloodlines. The significance was undeniable. 'Onyx and fire united indeed.'

"Does Naruto know?" Kakashi asked carefully.

Sasuke nodded. "He knows. He's…dealing with it in his own way."

"I guess that explains the punch to your face earlier." Kakashi let out a sigh, scratching the back of his head. "Who else knows?"

"Hinata, Sakura, and Tsunade. Namiko is telling Kurenai now."

"Well, I'm glad to hear that, at least. But this is big, Sasuke. Do you two have a plan?"

Sasuke tensed, his gaze hardening. "I'll protect her. I'll protect all of them." There was a fierceness in his voice, a determination that bordered on desperation.

Kakashi's expression softened. "I know you will, but this isn't just about protecting them, Sasuke. There's a lot more to consider—being able to provide for them as well as how the babies will change things between you and Namiko. Because having a baby, especially two, will change your relationship with Namiko."

"I know." Sasuke frowned, his jaw clenching. "If my parents were alive, they'd probably be disappointed that we weren't married first, but I'm not sure she'd want to jump into something so big."

Kakashi stepped forward, his voice quieter now. "I recommend you two talk about it sooner than later. Raising one baby is an A-rank mission, but two are an S-rank mission. You'll need to be a united front. Don't carry this burden on your own. You have friends and family to back you both up, including me."

Sasuke met Kakashi's gaze, searching for something in his teacher's eyes. Finally, he gave a curt nod before he pushed off the tree, his eyes hardening again as he turned to leave. "Thanks…"

Kakashi watched him go, concern deepening in his chest as the weight of what Sasuke had revealed lingered in the air. The future was uncertain, but one thing was clear: the prophecy was definitely about Sasuke and Namiko. He needed to talk to Tsunade.

Namiko found Kurenai at one of the campfires deep within the heart of the encampment. Her heart pounded in her chest, not from the exertion of the walk, but from the secret she was about to share. Several others already knew, but this felt different. She was coming to Kurenai not just as a fellow kunoichi or a student, but as someone who understood what it meant to be a mother.

Kurenai smiled, her sharp yet kind eyes softening when she saw Namiko approaching. "Namiko," she greeted warmly. "I'm so glad to see you. I heard you helped out quite a bit today. I'm so proud of you!"

Namiko glanced at Kurenai's growing stomach, mumbling a small "thank you." She pressed her lips together anxiously, her hands fidgeting with a loose strand of her hair, and took a deep breath. "Kurenai-sensei…can we talk in private? I need to talk to you about something. Something important."

Kurenai's expression shifted, her curiosity piqued, but her voice remained gentle. "Why don't we go sit in my tent? Whatever it is, you can trust me."

Namiko followed her inside and sat down. She glanced down at her hands, gathering her courage. "I'm pregnant," she whispered, the words barely audible.

For a moment, Kurenai was silent. Then she smiled, her hand reaching out to cover Namiko's in a comforting gesture. "Namiko…how are you feeling? How far along are you?"

"Exhausted. Emotional." Namiko looked up at her, relief mingling with her anxiety at Kurenai's non-judgmental response. "Tsunade says I'm eleven weeks. But...there's more. I'm...I'm having twins."

Kurenai's eyes widened slightly in surprise, but her smile grew even warmer. "Twins? That's a rare and beautiful blessing."

Namiko nodded, her voice trembling. "A small part of me is excited but mostly I'm terrified, sensei. I don't know if I'm ready for this...for any of it. I'm only sixteen."

Kurenai shifted closer to Namiko, her voice taking on a motherly tone. "Namiko, no one is ever truly ready to become a mother, no matter how old they are. It's something that changes you and challenges you in ways you never expect."

Namiko's throat tightened, tears threatening to fall. "But what if I mess up? What if I'm not enough for them?"

Kurenai smiled gently, pulling Namiko into a soft embrace. "There will be moments when you'll mess up and doubt yourself. I have them too and Mirai isn't even here yet. But you won't do this alone, you have Sasuke, Naruto, and your friends. And you have me. If you ever need guidance or just someone to talk to, I'm here."

She pulled back slightly, her hands resting on Namiko's shoulders. "And remember, being a mother isn't about being perfect. Your children won't need you to be flawless; they'll need you to love them, to guide them, and to be there when they fall. And I know you, Namiko, you have so much love and strength inside of you. You'll be more than enough for them."

"Thank you." Namiko sniffed, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand and groaning. "Ugh! Will I ever stop crying at the drop of a hat?"

Kurenai chuckled as she put a hand on her own rounded stomach. "Probably not, I definitely still do." She placed her other hand on Namiko's mostly flat stomach, her expression softening even more. "These babies, they'll teach you as much as you'll teach them. And they'll bring you a kind of joy you can't even imagine yet. Don't be afraid of the unknown, Namiko. Embrace it."

By the time Namiko found Sasuke and Naruto, the two were standing off to the side of the small campfire next to their tent, speaking intensely in hushed tones. "Well, neither is throwing punches, so I'm going to take that as a good sign," she said as she sat down next to Hinata.

Hinata smiled at her best friend. "Naruto-kun apologized for that and Sasuke pulled him over there to talk, though I don't know what about."

Hinata's cheeks were rosy and Namiko wasn't sure it was from the fire. Just as she was about to ask about it, Sakura and Kiba walked up to them and Namiko scooted over to give them room. "Sakura! Are you okay?"

Sakura flopped down on the log next to Namiko. "Beyond exhausted, but thankfully everyone is out of immediate danger so Shizune told me to rest. Kiba was helping me find my parents, but we ran into you first."

Kiba sat across from the girls, raising an eyebrow at Namiko. "You okay after today?"

"Huh? Me? I'm fine. Tsunade checked me over thoroughly and gave me the all-clear," said Namiko, her tone light and bubbly.

"So, then the fox is finally out of the bag?" Kiba nodded in Sasuke's direction. "And Tsunade didn't castrate him?"

Namiko blinked several times. "What are you talking about?"

Kiba snorted, leaning forward to whisper to spell, "The b-a-b-y? Or should it be i-e-s?"

Namiko's eyes went wide. "You know?!" she hissed quietly.

Kiba leaned back to pet Akamaru's head. "Of course I've known. I've known for weeks. The nose knows," he said, tapping the side of his nose.

"Why didn't you say something?!" Namiko snapped, and it caught Sasuke and Naruto's attention.

"It wasn't my place," Kiba replied with a casual shrug.

Suddenly things clicked into place in Namiko's mind. "Is that why you insisted on being the one to spar with me so much and went easy on me? So I wouldn't get hurt?"

Kiba nodded as he stood back up. "You're my teammate, of course I'm gonna watch out for you." He offered a hand to Sakura to help her up. "You ready to go? You look like you're going to fall asleep sitting up."

Sakura groaned and accepted his hand before quickly letting go. "I'll see you all later." She caught Naruto and Sasuke's attention and waved goodbye as she left with Kiba.

Hinata stood and stretched. "I should probably get back to otou-sama and Hanabi."

"I'll walk you!" shouted Naruto as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders. He turned his head to call teasingly over his shoulder, "You two don't do anything I wouldn't do…oh wait…too late."

Namiko rolled her eyes as Sasuke pulled her to her feet and led her into the tent they were sharing. "You need to rest too. You heard what Tsunade said."

"Trust me, I'm not going to argue," she said as she removed her sandals. "Why are two futons smushed together?"

"That's what I was talking to Naruto about." He sat down on the futons and motioned for her to sit, and she crawled next to him, warming her legs under the blankets. "It's not like we haven't been sharing a bed every night since we've been back. There's no reason for me to fake sleeping in the living room anymore."

"And he was just okay with that?"

Sasuke scoffed as he laid down, pulling her against his chest. "Not really, but he'll come around. He said, and I quote, 'doesn't want to hear us doing anything'."

"To be fair, we never did anything when he was home." She laughed for a moment before sighing. "Still, I guess we can't expect him to be thrilled. He's protective. Always has been," Namiko said, resting her head against Sasuke's shoulder.

Sasuke's fingers traced absent patterns along her back, his voice low as he replied, "He's protective of you, but he also knows I won't let anything happen to you or…them." His hand moved to rest gently over her belly. "Whatever happens next, we'll face it as a family."

Namiko's heart softened at the tenderness of his touch as she drifted to sleep. "…family. I like the sound of that."

A/N: This chapter ended up being way longer than I intended but it was all conversations that needed to happen. Now both Team 7 (minus Sai and Yamato) and 8 are fully informed of the situation. I hope you all liked the nice NaruHina moment in there too.
Important announcement! September 30th marks one full YEAR of writing this story and I want to do something to celebrate it. (We've also officially hit the 250k word mark!) I'd like to have you all write suggestions of something you'd like to see in the story and I'll pick (at least) one to include in a later chapter.
Thank you all so much for supporting me through this whole adventure and there's still more to come! I'll see you all next week!
Love, Eriisu

PS: Comments are my tip jar!
