The very next morning felt like it came stupid early but it was the same time as always. "Darling, its time to get up." Adam rubbed her back but she just snuggled closer. "I know but we have to start moving. You have an interview today." He felt her nod but she didn't move. "Im going to start the shower." He started to get up but she whined. "You want a little loving this morning?" He asked hoping that would get her up and moving. "Im not opposed. I still feel a little sick inside from the case yesterday. And its not finished." Kim just whined hating these types of cases. Even if it was her specialty. "Okay so then tell me exactly what you want or need this morning. Tell whats going to help." He knew she was still insecure about voicing her wants and needs. But it had gotten much better with time. He loved that she was getting more confident by the day. "I want the spinning to stop. I want to feel more at peace. I feel very lost at sea in my own head. I know that makes no sense but its tough the responsibility I feel with these cases. Especially with being the resident expert. It also sucks that we didnt even get one day back from vacation before this was dropped on us." She closed her eyes again pulimg the pillow over her mouth to muffle the annoyed scream.
"Listen all of that makes sense. The responsibility you feel, the spinning, needing peace. And yes it sucks our good vacation vibes didnt last long but we will just plan another. But for now how about we just have some loving time. Sweet, loving, powerful. Then we finish this case and get back to the fun. Deal?" He asked. "Sounds great. Thank you for understanding my crazy this morning." She looked at him lovingly. "You never have to thank me for that. I understand completely. We both have days when we need to just block out the whole world. Its normal." He stripped off the few clothes he had on and helped her undress. He knew exactly what she needed as he moved her body. Her back against hos chest. It was the perfect position to hit all her hot spots as he made love to her. The perfect position leaving her breathless and in pure bliss.
He scooped her up carrying her to the bathroom. He sat her on the sink as he started the shower. He was moving back towards when she grabbed him pulling in to a seering kiss. "I love the shit out of you!" Kim whispered as their foreheads rested on each other. "God I love the shit out of you too!" He kissed her again slower this time. "Come on. Lets get this badass washed." He noticed the steam coming out of the shower. "If I must." Kim sighed dramatically. He just laughed guiding her into the shower. The couple made quick work of the shower. They had places to be and kids to get moving. As they dressed he decided to ask about the day ahead. "So how is today working?" He was buttoning his shirt as he spoke. "Um so the mom is going to be at the school while we interview Darrien. Or attempt to. I think we should bring Mouse to record it. And then have two other people go interview the other brother. At this point we have most of what we need to bring the ADA in. But I never want to assume anything. And I never want to lose a case because I was sloppy. I think I also want to try testing Darrien on camera to see if he can pick out objects on his own. Should be interesting." Kim explained ss she strapped her boots on.
"Sounds like a good plan. Well thought out and it covers all the bases. Maybe after work we can ride for a bit. I think that would help your mindset." He watched her nod as she finished the final touches on her outfit. She moved to the kids room with Adam close behind her. Both kids still asleep but Gunner was awake and ready to head out to use the bathroom. "Gunner lets go downstairs and outside. Let Kim wake the kids." Adam brought him outside to use the bathroom but also to stretch his legs. He loved running around the backyard especially with the kids. But for now he was just trotting around enjoy the outside. Adam smiled heading inside to start making breakfast for his family. "Good morning babies." Kim announced as she walked closer to them. She watched them starting to wake up. "Oh I know. I didnt want to get up either. But unfortunately your daddy is right. We have work and you two have school." Kim saw them sitting up more.
Mia was waking up more moving to Kim for a hug. "Morning my sweet. You ready to start your day?" Kim asked her. Mia just nodded. "Okay head on in to the bathroom to potty while I get your brother moving. Mia hurried off to the bathroom needing to go. Milo had his eyes open at least now but he still didn't look pleased at getting up. "Oh I know bud. But daddy is downstairs starting breakfast so how about we get moving. You know you are hungry." Kim heard him laugh a bit. "Yup lets get moving." She laughed back. He moved to the bathroom needing to potty. Mia was on the step stool washing her hands when they entered. "Okay little miss after your brother is done we can head down to eat." Both kids nodded as Milo peed. He finished up quickly so they could get food. He washed his hands quick making a huge mess in the process.
They all headed down the stairs to see Gunner eating and the table set for them all. "Good morning kiddos!" Adam dropped down to the ground to get hugs from his kids who were running towards him quickly. He held them tight kissing each of their heads. He heard a tummy rumble so he knew they were hungry. "You two ready to eat?" Adam asked seeing them nodding. "Awesome! Eat up you both need food to keep you going at school today." He sat the kids at the table to eat while he made a coffee for himself. The family sat around eating as the kids chatted away about the day ahead. After the kids were finished eating Adam took the kids upstairs to get dressed while Kim cleaned up and made lunches. Less than 20 minutes the whole family was ready and headed out for the day. They dropped off thd kids and headed to work knowing what the day ahead was bringing.
"You ready to do this?" Adam asked holding her outside the district. "Yeah this needs to be done. We need to get justice for Darrien. Lets do this." She kissed him softly as they entered the building. Adams hand was on her back as they moved up the stairs in to the bullpen. He knew she needed the strength to get through the day. "Morning." Kim stated as she walked in. "Hey you ready to finish this and hand it over?" Jay asked knowing it was killing her. "Yeah I want this done. It wont be easy but it needs to be done." Kim started making a tea as Adam made a coffee. "Agreed this needs to be done." Jay agreed. Voight waited till everyone was seated before he greated them for the day. "Okay now that everyone is here. We have a dead body but we still have to work yesterdays case. So Kim, you and Kevin will interview Darrien at his school woth his mother. Take a camera so you can get it on video. Torres and Lindsey, get with the other brother for an interview. Preferably here but you can go there. Its just an interview. The rest are heading to the crime scene. Lets get going!" Voight stated as they headed out.
Jay hugged Erin tight. "Be safe please!" He begged. "Its just an interview but I will. I promise." Erin whispered. "Hey Er! Just in case take my knife. Its carbon fiber and fits in the back waist band of your pants." Kim handed over her knife. No one but Adam knew she carried it. "Thanks I appreciate it." Erin had Jay place it for as they headed out. "Gunner come please." Kim decided to take Gunner with since he was good at emotional support. Kevin had grabbed the camera as they headed out. "Are we sure this is the best idea?" Kevin asked. "Well we dont have a choice. Hes a victim and we need to interview the victim." Kim shrugged as they drove to the school where Darrien was. "I just dont want to harm him more." Kevin admitted. "I agree but honestly asking questions to him cant hurt. If his mind really is so young it wont hurt since he wont understand." Kim knew this was new to most people. They arrived heading inside with Gunner in tow.
"Good morning Ms Jones. This is Gunner, hes trained emotional support. Are we ready to start?" Kim asked shaking the womans hand. "Good morning. Yes lets do this. I explained you were coming but I dont think he understood." She admitted. "Thats fine. I actually expected that. I just want to ask a few questions, try to see of he knows what items are and just show him a photo of his abuser to get his reaction on camera. These are all normal things in these cases. I will be gentle I promise. As a victim myself I understand what hes going through." Kim assured her as they moved to the classroom. They set up the camera on the table as Darrien was led over to the same table. "Good morning Darrien! Im Kim and this is Kevin. Would it be okay if I ask you some questions?" Kim asked seeing he wasnt looking at her and couldnt keep his head straight looking at her. Constantly moving around.
"Can you tell me your name?" Kim asked as he just grunted. "Is your name Darrien?" Kim asked watching him nod a bit. "Great thank you. Are you 23 years old?" Kim asked. He was silent. "Hey thats okay I forgot how old I was for a few years. Covid cased me to lose track of time." Kim laughed a bit. "Okay Im going to show you a few objects. I will ask you to point to things I ask about okay?" He whined so Kim placed a few items on the table in front of him. "Can you point to the cup?" Kim asked watching him point to a pen. "Okay can you point to the apple?" Kim asked watching him pointed towards paper. "Okay one more. Can you point to the cookie?" Kim asked as he pointed towards the cup. "Okay one last thing I want to show you a picture okay?" Kim placed the photo down after showing it to the camera.
Darrien took one look at the photo and started almost yelling banging on the table. But what shocked them most was he starting to grab at his crotch area. Kim was startled by it. Gunner jumped into his lap licking him trying to calm him down. Darrien soon calmed down. "Okay Im going to let you get back to class. Thank you for speaking with me today." Kim shook his hand as they started to leave. Gunner close to Kim as they headed back. The car ride was quiet but that was okay. What they had seen was disturbing. They entered the district heading right to the bullpen. "Hey boss. You want to see the video?" Kim asked dropping on the couch with Gunner next to her. "Yeah was it that bad?" He saw how she was acting. "Um he freaked out when he saw her photo. Started grabbing his crotch. It was shocking. Im not really sure what that actually means. Other than he associates her with his penis." Kim shrugged closing her eyes, leaning her head back.
"Sounds shocking. Start writing up your reports. I will call the ADA to get this moving forward. Relax a bit or try." Voight sent her to her desk. Kim sat at her desk with Gunner right next to her. She worked as she noticed her team mates were coming back from their own case. She just kept her head down working wanting this to stick. She knew Adam was back since he brought her tea and snacks through out shift. They noticed ADA Stone arrived. Gunner growled right away. "Gunner. Down boy! He's a good person!" Kim scolded but knew he had the best intentions. "Sorry Peter!" Kim got up to hug him. "Its okay! Im happy you have some one protecting you. Its awesome! Should I assume this is your case?" Peter asked knowing the odds were in her favor. "Yes it is. We have a lot on video. I know thats important." Kim shook her head sighing heavily.
"Thank you for that. I will watch all the videos if I have other question I will ask you. But for now I will just watch the videos and read the reports. You will have to testify Im sure. I doubt she will take a deal with what Voight told me." He patted her shoulder and headed into the office to talk to Voight. Adam had been watching the full thing. He knew she needed a break. "Come on. Lets head outside with Gunner for some fresh air." He pulled her outside walkimg them directly into the sunlight. He knew that would help her. That it would heal her soul. Even if just a bit. She found a bench sitting down, putting her head in her hands. "You're doing good. You just need some fresh air and some food. So I will order it while you rest a bit." He watched her looking up at the sun taking all the vitiam D she could. "Thank you for giving me a break. I really did need it." Kim sighed. She leaned into his embrace. Needing his strength to get her through.
"You ready to head back in?" He saw her calmer. "Yeah. Lets go. Im ready." Kim smiled as they headed back. Platt handed him a take out bag when they arrived back. He thanked her and guided her back up the stairs. He got her situated with her food and let Gunner loose. He stayed by her side. She ate quietly still working on paperwork but she could still see Peter in the office. It was a lot to work through. The rest of the team was working on their dead body case. When Torres and Lindsey came back they went to talk to Voight. But Erin stopped at Kims desk handing her back the knife. "Thank you. I didnt need it but thanks for the back up." The ladies hugged before Erin headed in to talk to Voight. Kim finished her lunch before she was asked to join in the office. She walked with her drink in hand. "Yes sir." Kim sat in the chair.
"We just want you to know that we are going after her for rape, abuse of power and fruad. Fruad is going to be hard to make as she truly believes in facilitated communication. She was taught by her mother who believes in it too. I talked to her while you were out and refuses to take a deal. She honestly thinks she can beat the charges. But shes going to court. You did good Detective. Be proud, always. Thank you." Peter stood to shake her hand as he took the files and left. Kim stood taking a deep breath, holding back tears looking up at the ceiling. "He's right. You did good. You always do. You should be damn proud of yourself." He got up to hug her. Knowing she needed it. "Thank you! I truly appreciate it. Its still tough. These cases still effect me. No matter how many I solve or dont. Its still hard on my heart and soul." Kim nodded ready to head back to work. She walked out controlling her breaths as she went. She sat finishing up her paperwork so she could leave and go ride a bit before getting the kids.
She had zoned out not realizing Adam was watching her. It was just about 4 when he came over to rub her back. "We are getting cut loose for the day. So lets get you on the back of a horse to relax for a bit." He watched her smile. "Thats my girl! Lets go!" They put the leash on Gunner and headed to the stables. The couple headed out with Adams arm wrapped around her shoulders. He held her close as they moved to the car. Platt saw the heaviness from the case wearing on her. They rode in silence to the stables but Adams hand never left her leg. They arrived at the stables. They headed in with Gunner ready to ride. "Hey Detective! Your back Officer! Lets get you both ready to ride." Matthew was happy to see them again. "Thanks its been a shit case so this is needed." Kim got on a smaller horse and started towards the ring. Gunner was sitting by the ring watching Kim ride. Adam joined her shortly afterwards.
Kim was happy to ride looking towards the sun. Kim started to trot around the ring but she really wanted to get on a trail. She needed a trail ride. She really needed to find one. As they came to the end of the ride Kim and Adam moved inside. Kim leaned back a bit. "Next time you can go bareback. I can see you thinking about it." Matthew stated. "Yeah that and a trail ride. I love just lying back on a horse looking up at the stars. It brings you so much peace." Kim smiled as she got down from the horse. She helped brush out the horse, brush his mane and gave him some treats. Adam was still watching her seeing the weight lifted slightly. "Here is the name of a trail ride company. It should be right up your alley." Matthew handed her the brochure. "Thank you! I appreciate this." Kim started to leave with Gunner in tow. Adam not far behind her. "Lets get the kids then head home to run around outside for a bit." Adam knew she was all on board for that.
"Yes I would love that! They would love that!" Kim was excited to spend time outside with the kids. "Oh I know. We still need to start packing. But that can wait till tomorrow. And we still have 30 days after that to finish moving everything. "All very true. Im good at packing though. So Im not too worried about that. Should be easy enough with all the help from the team." Kim smiled knowing it would suck but it would be amazing once it was finished. "Very true. I really cant wait to sign those papers. Our first home we bought together. Im so excited for it." Adam hugged her tight throwing her over his shoulder as they moved closer to the car. He held her legs as her hands patted his butt. They were both laughing. "Alright my love gets go get our kids!" He helped her down kissing her hard. "Till later!" Kim winked jumping in the car. Adam just laughing getting in next to her.
Kim turned the radio up a bit and jammed out as Adam drove to the kids school. She was dancing in her seat, singing along as they went. Adam loved that she was relaxing some. Her head moving side to side on beat. He really needed to get her to the club. She was having a great time dancing just in the car. He could only imagine how much fun she could have in a club. They arrived at the school jumping out with Gunner to head to pick up the kids. They waited in line for the kids seeing all the other parents waiting as well. They had nothing in common with these people. As soon as people heard they were cops they lost interest. They were okay with that. They had plenty of friends so this was fine with them. The twins came out with their teacher close behind them. The couple was confused. "Is something wrong?" Kim asked hoping it was nothing major. "Nothing too crazy but we got a call from their grandparents wanting to see the kids. We told them no and that they were not on the list of people to pick up the kids." Their teacher explained.
"Um okay. Did they say they were in town now? Or just getting an idea if you would allow it?" Kim was trying not to freak out. "Honestly I'm not sure. But we told her that security would prevent them from seeing the kids. They will be safe." The teacher tried to assure the couple. "Never safe enough. I will contact my lawyer and my boss to prevent those people from coming here. They have a no contact order. So I will have the police and lawyer's call you." Kim grabbed one kids as Adam grabbed the other. Their eyes met. "I will get Voight and Platt on it. When we get home you can call your lawyer." Kim took over driving them home. Adam texting away quickly trying to keep them all safe. They pulled into the garage closing the door right away. The kids were brought in to the house and set up with a game while Kim called the lawyer. "Rafa they are trying to see my babies! You have to stop them!" Kim cried. "Hey they cant see the kids. We have that order in place. Did they contact you?" Rafa asked knowing this was a problem. "They contacted the school. How they know about the school I don't know. I need them to stay in New York and away from me. I will arrest them. And I will shoot them to protect my kids." Kim was scared. "I know that! I will get a judge on it as soon as we get off the phone. Just try to relax some. I will call you back soon." Rafa got off the phone calling a judge right away.
Adam was downstairs with the kids texting back and forth with his bosses. They had Mouse on it right away looking into flights, hotels, bank records, call logs. Anything to find these people before they made contact with the kids. "Hey we got this!" As Adam watched her moving towards her. "Rafas on it too. Im in shock. Like why now." Kim shook her head but kept a close eye on the kids. "Mouse hasnt found them yet but he put a bolo out on their cars. And his." Adam showed her the text. "Im surprised they are still paying for it. Though not my problem. Dumb stupid expensive car." She groaned rolling her eyes. "What did he drive?" Adam asked having no clue. "Alfa Romeo." Kim shrugged. "Yeah thats dumb but not your cross to bare. "Lets order dinner tonight. That way we can rekax some. You are not in the right mind to cook." He kissed her head pulling back hearing gagging.
They saw the kids gagging at them. "Hey! You guys said we cant kiss on the lips. You guys never said I couldnt kiss mom on the head." Adam was shaking his head laughing with them. "You two are a mess!" Kim laughed tickling the kids. The kids were still laughing when Kims phone rang. "Hey what did you find out?" Kim asked not even bothering with hellos. "I talked to a judge who called their attorney on a three way call. I explained what we learned today. Their lawyer had no idea they were trying to find the kids. And no idea why they wont let it go. But the judge reiterated the no contact order. And stated you should get a restraining order in Chicago as well. As far as we know they havent left the city or state. And we will keep an eye on them. Its okay right now." Rafa explained. "Great thank you. I will get it in the works out here as well. Lucky for me Peter is out here so hopefully he can help me again." Kim sighed. "Thats great. Text him right away. Keep me posted." Rafa sighed as he hung up. It was the case that never went away.
"Seems its a stable situation. Need to text Stone to get another restraining order here. So yeah fun." Kim explained as she sent the text to Peter. "Its been awhile since you heard from them. Its almost strange to have it happen now." Adam admitted. "Agreed. And its not like its an anniversary or anything. So its not like thats a trigger. I thought we were free." Kim sighed heavily. "Well technically we are. They arent in the state that we know of. And the school did the right thing. They are protecting the kids the best they can. And will call the police if needed. They are very pro first responders. As much as the parents dont like cops the teachers and staff have our back." Adam was sure they were in the best school possible. "True I love that they have security. And that they explained to them they werent allowed to see the kids and that security would prevent it. Im thankful for that." Kim rested against him.
"Dinner is here. Give me a minute." He looked out to see the food left by the driver. He grabbed the food locking the door right away. "Kiddos dinner is on the table." The kids ran to the table with Kim not far behind them. They all sat around the table making plates with some from every container. The kids were excited for all the food before them. They loved these nights. So many options to try. Both kids talking about about their days. Happy to see their parents smiling again. It looked like they had moved past the issue, whatever it was. The kids finished dinner first. They were placed down running off to play with Gunner. "Are you okay?" Adam asked unsure how she was feeling. "I think I'm okay. Just caught off guard hearing they are trying to get to the kids. Maybe if they gave a damn in the first place. But they didnt. And Peter is on it. He can be very nasty especially when it comes to woman and children. And if it wasnt today you know. Today just sucked." Kim laughed a bit.
"It really did. How did the interview go?" He had never asked earlier. "Um it was fine till I showed him the photo of his rapist. Where he freaked out abd started grabbing his crotch. I hadnt expected that reaction. I expected him to maybe just freak out a bit. Or maybe not recognize her at all with his brain fuction and comprehension. But grabbing himself, never thought that. It wasnt the first time. I have accused men jack off in front of me before. Trying to prove their manhood or that they could get it up. It was still insane." Kim shuddered thinking about. "God no wonder you were having a rough day! That's horrible. Anything else?" He asked watching her. "It's definitely going to trial. She refused to take a deal. So Im going to have to testify at some point." Kim shrugged a bit.
"Insane! Well lets go outside and play. We all need it." Adam cleaned up after dinner while Kim took the kids outside to play. Adam joined them shortly after chasing after the kids. The laughter was loud and infectious but Kim wouldnt have it any other way. Kim scooped up her daughter lifting her over her head as they laughed loudly. Adam noticed Kim flinched a little after he heard a loud pop. "What was that?" Adam asked walking towards her. "Just my shoulder popping. Its fine. Its still tingling a bit but its fine." Kim held Mia on her hip seemed unfazed. "You sure?" He was shocked by how loud it was. "Yeah its almost normal. I feel fine." Kim laughed a bit. "Okay. Lets keep playing then." Adam tickled Mia as she took off running again. They were all having a great time.
The kids started to crash around 8 which was perfect timing. The kids were carried to bed, changed in to jammies then they each got a book to read. Both kids didnt make it through the books. They were place in their beds, tucked into bed. The couple kissed each child on the cheek and told I love before they left. Gunner on the floor between their beds. The couple headed back the down the stairs. The couple curled up on the couch together. "How often does that happen?" He asked touching her shoulder. "Every few days. Not that loud normally though. I think its gotten worse since the bombing. I landed on that shoulder. And my knee that I hit pops more too now. But really my whole life. Hold on." Kim moved to stand. Adam watching as she cracked both ankles and popped her knee. Adam was shocked. "Thats insane! And sounds painful!" She just laughed straddling his lap. "Its so normal to me." Kim wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I get its normal for you but its not to me. So you have to see why it worries me." He was looking straight into her eyes. "Oh I get it. But just so you know my hips pop too. And my body has popped while we have been intimate. Our moans normal cover the sounds." She laughed watching his eyes go wide. "Crazy! Well lets go pop some joints then!" He laughed lifting her up heading to their bedroom. He dropped her on the bed watching her bounce. She was laughing the whole time. "Pop away baby!" Kim laughed as she sat up to help strip him of his clothes. "Oh no! Lay back Im taking my time with you. Its all popping tonight!" He laughed spending the next few hours loving every inch of her body. For such a horrible start to the day it ended in the most beautiful display of love. For that the couple was forever grateful. And knew as long as they had each other they could conquer anything ahead of them.
